INTRODUCTION TO DEBATING
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IS DEBATING?
---------------------------------------------------------------
A debate is an organized argument or contest of ideas in which the participants discuss a topic from two opposing sides. Those who agree with this statement or idea are the "Pro" side. Those who will not agree with this statement or idea are the "Con" side. Each side will show in an organized and clever way why they believe to have the right answers. They will use examples and evidence to support their ideas while working towards a conclusion.

The aim of a debate is to convince the opposition that you are right. When the two sides agree on the subject or when one side's arguments are more convincing than the other side that is when the debate comes to a close. In a formal debate, a mediator (a person that has not agreed with the Pro or the Con) will decide who the winner should be. In an informal debate the argument can continue until the time when one side gives up :) From: https://www.americandebateleague.org/wh ... ate.html#/
ROLES IN DEBATING
-----------------------------------------------
AFFIRMATIVE:
First Speaker - clearly define the topic, outline their team's case, and introduce their own argument
Second Speaker - restates the topic, summarizes the first affirmative speaker's main points, followed by their own arguments and rebuttals of the first negative speaker's points
Third Speaker - highlight key clashes in the debate and briefly introduce their role in addressing those points.
NEGATIVE:
First Speaker - introduce the negative team's stance, outlining their key arguments and rebutting the points made by the first affirmative speaker
Second Speaker - rebut the arguments presented by the second affirmative speaker, and finally, introduce their team's third and final argument
Third Speaker - rebutting the opposing team's arguments and summarizing the negative team's case, without introducing any new arguments
BASIC RULES IN DEBATING (IMPORTANT!!!)
-----------------------------------------------------------

- Each teammates have around 3.5 minutes to present their prepared speech but in our case, this doesn't really matter
-The team supporting the motion must not shift its point of view. The same goes for the opposition, who must oppose the motion completely (whatever their private opinions may be).
-If a speaker makes a statement, they must be able to provide evidence or reasons to support the statement.
-Facts presented in a debate must be accurate.
-Speakers may not bring up new points in a rebuttal speech.
TIPS!!
★Structure Your Speech.
★Use Rhetorical Devices.
★Speak with Conviction.
★Emphasise Key Points.
★Use Evidence and Examples
★Maintain Clarity and Simplicity
