As Elm made his way through the Great Hall, he saw many groups of dancers. Girls dancing, with their long blue, green, gold, and red dresses on, making beautiful swirls liken to a rainbow. Elm adjusted his blue bow tie, as he made his way to the refreshment tables. "Ugh, it's choking me..." He whined internally, wrestling with the wretched thing. Maple, his older brother, had practically dragged him to the Great Hall but now, he had disappeared to gush over a pretty blondie. Elm frowned, a frustrated curse escaping his lips.
Just then, his attention was swerved by a girl in a corner dancing...by herself?
His eyebrow raised itself automatically, before making his way over through the sea of skirts. By the time he'd gotten there, he could see the girl uttering a spell, then a flash. And dolls were dancing!
"Woah..." he muttered quietly, a low whistle jumping out before he could stop himself. The sound echoed in the large, candle-lit, hall. Elm's face turned the color of his hair: dark red. Immediately, he started making his way to the refreshment table but a swift turn of his elder brother, pushes him backwards crashing into the back table. Maple smirked and sauntered off. Elm's mouth was agape, completely stunned by his brother. What was that all about? His brother liked teasing but would never be a jerk...unless he was trying to set him up...
At that thought, he quickly started to get up, only for a dancing doll to bump into him. Cupping the toy in his hand, he lifted it off ground level. The doll squirmed out of his grasp and suddenly, he burst into a fit of laughing. "Hahaha, it's too cute! Oh my God, it's too cute! How'd you make it dance?" He asked the girl inquisitively. From the drink table, Maple sipped his pumpkin juice, uttering a single word. "Perfect."

The Comb of Vanity had only touched Robin's hair when the curly bundle of locks had instantly straightened, leaving her hair falling down her back as if silk pressed. Robin smiled, tucking away the comb into the pocket of the Muggle basketball shorts she was wearing underneath her dress, right alongside an inactive Dungbomb trapped in a small bag, not allowing the retched stench to waft out. A girl always had to be prepared, right?
"How unfair!" Odette playfully complained, and an arm appeared on Robin's shoulder, making her jump at first. "You're a total babe with curls and you're a hottie with straight hair? Give the rest of us mortals a chance, will you?" Robin rolled her eyes, the smallest of smiles on her face. "What do you think? You reckon I look as good as Karen Gillan?"
Robin tilted her head back, looking at the young entrepreneur like she was crazy. Robin imagined Odette, but instead, as a blue alien cyborg, the daughter of Thanos from the Marvel Universe. "Uh, sure", Robin said sarcastically, raising an eyebrow. "And I look as good as Batman. Now, follow my lead." Robin said, immediately bouncing up from the table and turning toward the dance floor. " Or don't. Meet me in the common room if we get separated," Robin threw over her shoulder, trusting the other girl's competency to hold her own.
Robin had a vendetta against every uptight witch and wizard in this building - the ones who took themselves too seriously and struggled to crack a smile even when the joke was hitting them in the face. The right people would understand how amusing a terrible-smelling crap cloud could be. Those were her type of people. This was to piss off all of the people who have or would ever sneer at her, raising their noses and claiming some superiority over her. Oh, the angrier they were, the better, Robin thought. They were usually much more entertaining to watch. Observing a good reaction of irritated people is what Robin does for fun - the secondary goal is just not to get caught.
Robin began to sway her body back and forth, imitating the semi-helpful ghost she and Odette had come across back during their first few weeks at Hogwarts. The young ghost girl had floated gracefully, dancing the dance of someone who was listening to their own infinite melody. Robin's arms were waving throughout the air as if she were a living embodiment of the Aurora Borealis, flowing and swaying to the beat of the music. She integrated herself into the crowd of dancing students, slowly making her way toward the giant double doors.
Feeling incredibly daring, Robin slowly and gracefully danced her way into the most crowded section of students, using the numbers as cover. Slipping her hand into her pocket, Robin pulled out the Dungbomb, barely looking as if she had paused, dancing and keeping her hands low to not draw attention to the bulging package in her right hand. Remembering that she had a partner in crime, Robin turned her head and winked at her friend following a safe distance behind her, hair bright ginger, making Robin double-take because she hadn't even noticed the change, being too occupied with her evil plans. She was glad the girl kept up, even if she still looked like a stumbling baby trying to mimic Robin's dance moves. Robin smirked, nodding at the girl, signaling she was about to drop a fresh load.
Without pausing a beat, Robin pulled the Dungbomb out of its protective bag and tossed it a few feet away from her, letting it roll freely and into the crowd. Robin continued to dance and sway, refusing to change her pace, and made her way to the exit. Robin was already hearing a couple of murmurs of confusion as she slipped out of the Great Hall, leaving the ball. Returning her gait to a casual walk, Robin slipped her gown off, leaving her in a black tank top and basketball shorts, and re-combed her hair with the Comb of Vanity, allowing it to slip back to its usual curly and frizzy pattern. Hopefully, nobody had recognized her. And if they had... well, that was a problem for another Robin. This Robin went straight to her common room to change and maybe start another adventure.

◦ P O S T ◦ #6 ◦Odette begins trailing after Robin as she dances her way back into the crowd, admiring how her friend seamlessly flows between the dancing witches and wizards without missing a beat or stumbling into anyone. The newly-colored ginger-haired witch tries to imitate her movements, but the Leone curse of two left feet keeps causing her to bump, elbow, and trip into people.
Realizing she’s drawing far too much attention for their plan to work, Odette quickly understands that the only way for them to pull off this prank without a hitch is if they split up. Turning in the opposite direction of Robin, she makes her way to a table on the edge of the dance floor. Casually taking a seat, with her back towards the crowd sauntering and twirling behind her, the blue-eyed witch subtly slips her wand from its ankle strap and waits for her cue.
If Robin is going to unleash nasal hell upon everyone, then Odette’s job is to make sure her daring friend has an escape route.
She doesn’t have to wait long for her signal. The pungent smell, reminiscent of a skunk and a garbage truck having an illicit affair behind sewage’s back, quickly reaches her nose. Without hesitation, she slyly points her wand at a table a couple of places down and hisses with conviction, “Tarantallegra!”
Not waiting to see what happened, though she can only hope the table dances its way into the crowd, Odette swipes a napkin from a nearby table to cover her nose and slowly makes her way to the entrance. Her impromptu mask does little to save her from the horrid stench, but it’s certainly more than anyone else has. If only she knew how to transfigure proper nose plugs.
The thought of a new product nearly stops Odette dead in her tracks, but she quickly shakes herself out of it. Striding past the tables of food by the entrance of the Great Hall, the blue-eyed witch barely even pauses in her step as she impulsively decides to swipe an entire bowl of raw potatoes. She deserves a treat for a well-done prank. Maybe she can experiment with spells in her room to make French fries.
With a new tasty goal in mind, Odette exits the soiree with a skip in her step, humming a victorious tune under her breath.༺❅༻༒༺❅༻Odette has left this thread◦ A B I L I T Y ◦ Perfectionist

It all happened so quickly Joseph had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming. One moment he had been joking about macaroons with Ruth and Pam, the next, he found himself stranded with a probably increasingly impatient Violence Bloodthorn. His gaze lingered wistfully on the retreating forms of his friends as they weaved through the crowd, disappearing beyond the ballroom doors. Well. Wouldn't things get more interesting now.
The Hufflepuff bit his lip, casting Lya and Stelle a quick glance before finally facing Violence properly. Unexpectedly stylish, he noted, now paying more attention to the girl before him. Dancing hadn't been the number one priority on his agenda when he first showed up, but what harm could a little spinning and twirling do?
"Cluck cluck, sure, let's go," Joseph said brightly, bearing a cheeky grin, much like one who had just crash landed his broomstick into some grumpy old man's backyard. He was going to have so much fun. He could practically feel it in his bones.
He was almost ready to whisk Violence away before they were joined by yet another new presence. Or presences, for that matter.
"Hiya Joseph!" a familiar voice called out, momentarily booting the dance out of his head. He turned instinctively, his eyes lighting up. It was his good friend, Avery, bounding over with evident excitement. The girl was closely followed by a friendly looking boy whom Avery introduced as her cousin, Dylan, from Ilervmony.
"Nice to meet yall," he replied, clucking cheerfully as he greeted them with an enthusiastic wave. Nothing beat running into a friend in the middle of a grand school ball. Especially not when said friend had an excellent taste in pet rocks. Avery cooed, declaring the wondrous Astra "so cute". Joseph couldn't recall ever agreeing with something she said this wholeheartedly.
"Alright, alright, got a dance to complete. Catch up to you guys later," he said, beaming as he took Violence's hand, ruffling Astra's bright yellow feathers with his other.
Just in time, too - he spotted another boy approaching Avery across the room, looking at her as if she were some kind of radiant goddess who'd just stepped out of a storybook.
"Sorry, let's go for real now," Joseph muttered to Violence, shooting a brief nod in Lya and Stelle's direction before skipping off to lead his elegant dance partner over to the dance floor.
*
Needless to say, Joseph was a terrible dancer.
The twirls, the footwork, the rhythm... he had reduced it all to a chaotic jumble of enthusiasm and misplaced limbs. He was always off-beat - sometimes ahead of the music, sometimes trailing half a step behind. His spins were too fast, his pauses too sudden, and on more than one occasion, nearly sent the both of them toppling over. Joseph briefly wondered whether Violence was beginning to regret asking him for a dance in the first place.
At one point, he collided into another pair of dancers, muttering a breathless "sorry," mid-laugh, which must have made him look insincere. Hopefully Violence wouldn't get upset about the number of times he nearly dragged her to the ground. He was giving his all, after all, no matter how clumsy. That had to count to something. Besides, you couldn't just expect every chicken to be born a natural tap-dancer.
"That was nice," Joseph breathed, stopping to catch a breath. He barked a laugh, watching Violence with a curious glint in his eyes. At least she hadn't stomped off... yet. That was a good sign, right?
"Realised I haven't properly introduced myself yet," he noticed, gingerly fishing out the dance card from his sling with sheepish smile. "I'm Joseph, just so you know. Was a pleasure dancing with you."

| xx | 𝕾reta's eager waving only increased as the brunette looked her way, bright smile flashing wide with seeing the recognition in her eyes. With a squeeze of Felix's arm, she broke away as Aly approached, feeding off the energy of the girl's swift strides to close the distance with equal exuberance. Arms flew wide to share the girl's embrace, squeezing her affectionately with an air kiss next to her cheek. "It is so very nice to see you, too!" she agreed emphatically before withdrawing. Light shimmered in her eyes as they roamed over the Eaglette top to toe, awed by the obvious care that had been taken for her preparations for the night. "You are very beautiful!!" She had to laugh at the acknowledgement of their matching attire, though. "It is true! I am sorry that I do not have a second wings to give you!" Happily accepting the girl's locking of elbows, she hooked her own palm around the other's forearm to secure it, grinning back at Felix as well before conspiratorially leaning in to whisper, "I thin--" A rumbling overhead cut her off, drawing her attention towards the ceiling as the lights dimmed and little drops of water started to fall. Greta, confused by the event and caught wondering if the enchanted ceiling had evolved into not a ceiling at all. Fortunately, Aly was already well prepared, quick to draw on her wand. Following her lead, Greta did the same, fingers dropping to the slit in her skirt to pull it back, revealing the wand holstered to her upper thigh. She flashed a coy grin back towards Felix (@Winnie Harper), "The dress didn't have pockets, but look! You were so clever to think of this when you picked this dress!", very proud of her foresight to accessories with her wand thusly. Without another moment's hesitation, she drew the whippy implement and raised it overhead uttering, "Pluvia Velo", leaning in towards Aly to that the umbrella would generously offer protection for the both of them against the deviously conjured elements. Seemingly unbothered, she continued from earlier as though this were nothing more than a temporary pause in their conversation, "he only is pretending to not like the costumes because I see that he is smiling when he is thinking I do not see when I am asking him to put on the clothes." A small frown did find its way into place, however, as she lamented, "There is supposed to be--" She paused, ultimately gesturing to her pair of antennae when she could not think of the word. "--but they are lost." She offered a small shrug of her shoulders before continuing. "How are you?" she chirped, evidently more intrigued to hear how the witch had fared since the fated blossoming of their new friendship than to bemoan Felix's incomplete garb. "What has happened since France? Are you here with someone? I want to hear everything."

'Are you sure you don't want me to go back?' Greta asked Felix, as if she were going to quickly DIY a new pair of antennae in five seconds flat.
"No!" He said, probably too suddenly. He swallowed and tried again, "I mean, that's fine, I don't want you to go through the trouble." She looked so gutted when she had found out, and that gnawed at the parts of him he usually ignored, like his conscience.
Drawing her closer, he pressed a kiss to her forehead—mostly so he didn't have to see those puppy dog eyes—and whispered a term of endearment to help distract her, "thank you, treasure."
'Everything okay?' Greta asked him.
"Yeah, just making sure this damn school isn't trying to sic Dementors on us or some other bullshit." He interlocked their fingers, giving her hand a squeeze. Food sounded good, ideally safe, but he couldn't trust anything about this school. The students were far too unhinged, Merlin only knows if they had mixed potions with the punch.
'Look! It's Aly!'
The Swede's eyes snapped towards the direction she was pointing in, his icy eyes softening upon the sight of the brunette girl. Oh yes, Aly. He remembered her, although admittedly not her name despite probably being told it several times, probably because his mind was filled with thoughts of his girlfriend during that trip. Aly was kind, gentle, cheerful, bright to look at, probably had a unicorn as her patronus, and had been a good friend to Greta during their trip.
His expression remained unchanged. She was a safe choice. He could already feel Greta's wings fluttering with the movement of her hand, "Cabinmate, I remember."
He didn't have time to say much else as Greta was quickly on the receiving end of an Aly hug, complete with those squeals that girls do when excited.
He raised a brow as she stared at him and leaned in to whisper into Greta's ear. "Try not to stare at the chest too much, Aly. I'm a taken man." Felix joked, raising his hands to pretend to cover himself up.
At the spray of raindrops, he aimed a glare towards the ceiling as if it were to blame. Of course it was fucking raining inside. Who the hell was casting weather charms in the middle of a damn ball?
'The dress didn't have pockets, but look! You were so clever to think of this when you picked this dress!' Greta announced as she innocently lifted her dress to show how she had holstered her wand to her thigh.
Felix felt his mouth go dry.
His brain short circuited as he stared open mouth at that tantalizing glimpse of skin.
He felt a blush heat up his face, painting his cheeks a dark red. "... Y-Yeah..." He was suddenly very thankful for the cold rain, because fuck, oh fuck.
He pried his eyes off of her leg, forcing himself to stare at her face instead, because he wasn't going to be that kind of guy... Even if he had stared slack jawed like a Victorian man seeing a woman's ankle.
But Merlin, it was hard not to fawn and stare at her... His girl, his Greta.
The scent of wildflowers turned his thoughts traitorous again, bringing forth memories of how she often taste like sweets, how right it felt when she was nestled in his arms, how aware he was that he didn't fucking deserve her.
This was all her fault. She had done this to him, had shattered the walls he'd built around his heart with soft laughter, smiles, and the way she looked at him like he wasn't made of jagged edges and bitter frost.
He blinked, realizing he had completely spaced out Greta used her adorable broken English to explain how she had gotten him to wear the costume. He shot her a half-glare, as if telling her she would pay for that comment later. "What can I say? I always envisioned my return to Hogwarts would be sprinkled with glitter and wings," he joked, crossing his arms over his chest.

Stelle noticed his reaction immediately. Not just the way he avoided her gaze, but also that small but clear tension in the muscles of his face. The way he tied his hair back, as if he needed to anchor himself to something so he wouldn't float in his own discomfort. She could almost hear the echo of his thought: Really? And she couldn't help but smile. Not mockingly, but with a restrained sweetness, the same kind of sweetness one has in the face of something fragile and brave at the same time.
—Of course, really—. she replied, lowering her head slightly to capture his gaze, even if only for a second. She felt the electricity in the air as soon as her fingers touched his. It wasn't magic, at least not the kind they taught in class. It was something else. Something more human, rarer, and less explainable: a warmth that rose up her arm, pressing right into the pit of her stomach. And it wasn't because Rafal looked at her as if he'd just seen the sun rise after weeks of storms. As she led him toward the dance floor, Stelle felt her chest loosen. Not because she wasn't nervous (which, in fact, she was) but because for the first time all night, anxiety wasn't the protagonist of her story. Rafal, with his charming clumsiness and his way of looking at her as if he didn't know if she was dreaming or not, had managed to displace the discomfort that had accompanied her since she walked through the door of the Great Hall.
The music filled the air with a gentle rhythm, somewhat classical but not rigid. Perfect for not failing miserably. Even so, Stelle didn't let go of Rafal's hand when they stood in the center. She looked at him with a mixture of expectation and patience. She knew he probably didn't know how to dance, or not very well. But it didn't matter. Not at that moment.
—Okay—. she said softly, just for him. —Let's go slowly, okay? It's like walking, but with a little more intention. I'll guide you. First, your right hand on my hip, the other follows here—. She placed a hand gently on his shoulder and waited for him to follow her instruction. Her other hand remained linked to his, tapping a barely perceptible rhythm with her fingers. And then, without thinking much about it, she began to move. Gently, as if she were floating more than touching the ground.
—One, two... one, two..—. ." she whispered, giving him a beat to follow. There was something comical and, at the same time, touching about how Rafal promised to follow her without stepping on her toes. He was really trying, and that, for Stelle, was more than enough.
She felt especially safe with him, but then she remembered an important detail about her. She liked the way he looked at her since they met, she had liked him so much that for a moment she forgot there might be a "magical" reason behind it. She immediately felt guilty. She knew opinions about Veelas or Half-Veelas were divided, and she feared he would think negatively of her if he knew that detail about her origins. She wasn't ashamed of it, but it wasn't something she went around telling everyone either. The only person at school who knew was Havery, and since no one had said anything, she assumed he'd kept her little secret. After a few small steps, she worked up the courage to ask him.
—Raf...?" —. she murmured, with a crooked smile. —What... what do you think about Veelas?—.
Her eyes sparkled as she said it, but the comment was more fearful than anything else. It was just a way to ease the tension that had appeared in her. After all, he was tender and sincere with her; she could trust him with her secret.
And that, although it was hard to admit, she was scared. A few seconds passed in silence, only the music, the timid footsteps, and that faint warmth that filtered through the contact between them.
—You know what's funny?—. she said then, trying to relax. —I came here tonight thinking I was going to leave early. That I wasn't going to talk to anyone, that I wasn't interested in this. And look at me now—. She looked back at him, amused. —Dancing with a Slytherin—.
It wasn't a romantic confession, but it was a sign of openness. Of trust.

MODERATION ROUND FOUR
Image created using Bing AI.More chaos was in store for these party goers, with a few students merely having a good time, and others wanting to ensure that once they left with a bang, everyone else would make a break for it as well. A duo of tricksters had disguised themselves whilst they carried out their attack, splitting up as they prepared to do their worst. The first of the pair to strike threw a dungbomb into the crowd of people before slipping out of the ball, unscathed. (@Robin Marie)
Her partner wasn’t quite so lucky. She had also trotted away from her partner in crime, attempting to appear disconnected and normal. However, as the student lifted her wand and recited the incantation, something seemed to go wrong. Under normal circumstances, so wrong that her wand may have backfired on her. Luckily for Odette, that was not something that she had to concern herself with. Perhaps the only problem was her failure to cast, something that the other half of her duo may tease her about, should they learn of this. (@Odette Leone)
There was an identical spell being cast close by, however this time it went according to plan. The young girl had selected some dolls and wished to dance alongside them, casting the Dancing Feet spell upon the inanimate objects. Perhaps she didn’t have a partner and so made her own, but the dolls soon began to shimmy. (@Ellie Randensmith)
Lastly, an upperclassman who had arrived from Durmstrang decided to do some spell-casting as well, this time to protect herself from the droplets of water that had begun to cease flowing from the sky. This was an undoubtedly successful cast, with the see through umbrella materializing from her wand. (@Greta Fransson/@Evelynn Decipio)

Its been a few quiet days at the Hogwarts castle for Ariam, with nothing much going on apart from that swim event at the boathouse they went to check out a while back. Unlike usual they didn't spend much time with people, opting to be in the rehearsal room with the piano. The few Tchaikovsky pieces they've been working on are improving, they could play some for their little siblings when they get back, it's a thought that always brings Ariam joy. Unlike the gala last year, Ariam wore more masculine clothing, something more akin to the suits and jackets they wear on the regular, but more on theme to the medieval feel the soirée is establishing. Ariam wasn't too into history, they weren't exactly familiar with the theme and after some research they quickly decided that the men's wear was more their style. Though Arim still kept their hair down in an effort to appear androgynous.
They walked in and quickly realised they were among the late arrivals, perhaps Ariam spent too long getting ready. Despite not having anyone they planned to come with they still wanted to dress nicely, if not just for the sake of it. The dance cards they were handed were unfamiliar to them, they seldom attended the events their father got invited to, up until recently they were considered too young by their father. Even then dance was hardly an activity often seen in those business gatherings, though Ariam does know how to dance, mostly slow waltzes unfit for this occasion.
Putting their thoughts away and not bothering to find someone to dance with, at least not yet, Ariam went towards the table of food. Duck was not about type of meat they often partook in but it certainly had appeal. The raw potatos confused them, surely this was some joke they don't understand? Who would eat raw potatos? Alas, Ariam did not come to the ball to debate the purpose of raw potatos. They picked up a drink as they chose a spot near a wall, observing the dancers. Was that a boy in a chicken costume on the dancefloor? The boy looked suspiciously similar to that hogwarts student they talked to at the boathouse. Ariam will have to ask him about that next time, for now, they took a sip of their drink, unbeknownst to any potential effects.

Ellie looked up from the dolls she had enchanted. Is that a boy? Laughing? At her? She quickly stopped dancing. Maybe wishes do come true Ellie thought happily Ellie stop! You are getting carried away! Ellie almost missed it when the boy asked her how she did it!
"Oh, Its the dancing feet spell!" Ellie said, feeling her cheeks burn up. Had she really been dancing by herself when a boy came over!?!
Ellie finally had the courage to look at the whole boy. He was wearing a baby blue undershirt, or at least that's what Ellie thought you called them, and a blue bow tie, that by the looks of it, was choking him! His curly, red hair was like a fire and probably reflected what Ellie's cheeks presently looked like. Ellie patted her cheeks. Yup, they are burning! Ellie reached for her drink. Realizing it wasn't there, she put her arm down awkwardly. She had never acted this way in front of a boy! What was different now, with this one?
"Is there uh, is there anything you would like me to make dance? Also I'm Ellie. You are?" Ellie said half hoping he would want to dance with her too.
After all this time? Always
