Stage 46: Drowned
Stage 46: Drowned
It was raining. It was that sort of dreary precipitation that seemed to personify sorrow. Tears that clung and soaked. The glassy surface of the lake was dotted with ripples. You did not know how deep the lake was, but rumor had it that the waters were so deep that some of the loches led out to sea.
You are not as stupid as the narrator thinks you are. You wrapped the doll(s) in string, twine or wire, as your trepidation. Stones—heavy, jagged—are lashed to the doll's burlap body. This was not a proper burial at sea, this was a murder. No fire. No earth. You will bury it where light never touches.
You say nothing. Just walk to the edge. The water laps gently at the stones. You lift your arm to cast the doll (be it Twinkle or Steven) in.
But then, the doll grabs your wrist.
Its tiny stitched fingers are stronger than they should be. Strong enough to hold you fast. You try to wrench away, but the doll moves on its own, pulling you closer, dragging your balance forward.
Your boot slips.
You fall hard against the rocks, nearly tumbling in. The water surges up, greedy, and for a heartbeat, you think it's not the doll at all, but the lake itself trying to claim you.
It’s trying to take you with it.

Stage 46: Drowned

Maisie wandered out onto the grounds, wondering how the hell to do this. It should have been easy, but the doll refused to be thrown out or burried. And yet as she passed the water, therein was the idea.
Attaching some rocks to the doll seemed like overkill, but this thing just did not seem to want to go away. So, she had to get a little creative.
Throwing it as far as she could, she wanted to wait until she could no longer see it beneath the waters' surface. But somehow, it seemed to grab onto her, pull her. She slipped. The water became heavy like weights and suddenly everything was happening very fast.
And all she could do was run.

Stage 46: Drowned
Mellani had almost screamed when the doll had appeared in her dorm again. The only thing that stopped her was, she did not want her dormmates to think that she had gone mad. All she could think of doing was drowning the doll. That way, even if, just IF, it was somehow living, it would not be able to come back. Mellani would then be a murderer, but she would rather live as a murderer of dolls than have to live with a creepy, maybe living doll.
Mellani tied the doll with heavy rocks that would make sure it remained drowned and threw it into the lake. But then, the doll grabbed her wrist. Mellani screamed as she tried to pull away. The doll's grip was way too tight, and Mellani's shoe slipped making her hit her head on the rocks. The water surged up, and Mellani was sure that if she did not do something now, she would drown. Mellani ignored the pain, got up and ran as fast as she could.
