Twisted Tavern
At first glance, the Tavern seems the same to any others described in a fantasy book. The lights in the room are well-lit, the fireplace is burning bright, and the drinks behind the bar are plentiful, all that's missing are the patrons. The lack of other people gives the room an almost eerie atmosphere, this isn't how it's supposed to be like. As you walk in you get a better look at the tavern. The stage in the corner is left empty except for the lute leaning against the stool in the centre, as if it is waiting for a performer. Oddly enough, if you look closely at the lute there seems to be pieces of something behind it. All the tables in the room are empty but one, if you look to your left as you enter, you see some drinks - potions- on that table, multiple potions of varying colours. If you look at the bar, there is an old fashioned gramophone on the end of it, but unfortunately no records for it to play, continuing the tavern's empty atmosphere.
Once everyone enters the tavern the door you all entered in slams shut behind you, and a "click" signally how it has been locked. One of the only clues you have toward how to escape is a old brass combination lock, appearing to be nothing special, just a muggle style combination lock.
The other hint being the paper nailed around head height on the door, once someone opens it, it says:
We are in a favourite place for bards,
and I can be found in a pile of shards.
I’m in need of a quick repair,
and then I’ll be out of your hair.

Welcome to the Twisted Tavern! This is an escape room based on the classic fantasy tavern, there are five solvable clues, and thus 5 rounds of moderation, as we aim to keep this a short activity to moderately long game.
1. Moderation will occur every week. Your characters are allowed one moderated action per round, like casting a spell or drinking a potion. Things like talking to other characters do not require a moderated action.
2. Make sure you specify your action somewhere in your post for easy moderation.

Reuben entered the small hall, not really wanting to enter the commotion of the ball, especially because he did not want to accidently bump into Lorelai. He had agreed to go to this ball with Zoph, mainly because over the Paris trip, he had realized how much Zoph meant to him as a friend, and how he should spend more time with them. Ideally, Reuben would have entered with Zoph, but he was bored, so he just decided to go by himself and told Zoph he would be waiting in the Small Hall, so it didn't take much time for them to find him.
He knew there was a bar set up in the hall, and although he did not drink, virgin mojito would be pretty good. He was just about to ask for one when he realized that no one was there behind the counter. Everything looked eerie, there was a lute and a gramophone and this just felt like something from a vintage movie. Maybe Reuben should not have come quite so early...
He quickly noticed an assortment of potions on the one table that was not empty. Being a duelist, Reuben knew enough to know not to drink any of these potions before he knew what they actually were. This seemed like a game room or something, and although Reuben was curious how things would turn out, the fact that he was alone and there was no one taking care of the bar was creeping him out.
Reuben wanted to get out of here and go to the ball, but he would not abandon Zoph like that, especially since if something happened to them in this creepy room while they were looking for Reuben, Reuben would never forgive himself. But as soon as Zoph came, they were going to get out of here. That's what Reuben told himself anyways.

ReducioKanae wasn't quite sure why she was there.
Shouldn't she be inside as always? Would she have been weeping in bed in her room if she wasn't here? It has kind of sunk in by now that he was gone, but she could never really admit that she accepted that reality. She wanted to see her cousin but she found out that she'd gone somewhere else that night. Kanae saw Edmund, another cousin of hers there, it was nice to see him after the funeral. He and Peter were always older brothers to her — not like she didn't have her own but it was hard to connect with someone who was a whole 11 years older than her compared to someone only 2 or 7 years older.
A part of her was still stuck in the times where things were happier, oh how she'd wish those days were back. That part of her wanted to join this Twisted Tavern event. She was smart enough for this, right? Probably so.
Entering the tavern, she couldn't help but admire the surroundings a bit. The lighting felt warm but the feeling was empty and strange without bustling people like there were in movies. She noticed a lute in the corner almost calling to her to play it. A hurt panged in her chest, she avoided playing instruments until now. Music made her happy, but it was as if she had no right to be happy when he didn't have the chance to even live.
It felt weird just standing there so she walked around, noticing a few people in her peripheral vision. She took note of the objects around her: a gramaphone, weird drinks, a lute, and a poem? Kanae read the 4 lines of text and thought for a bit. 'Favorite place for bards... music perhaps in taverns? Pile of shards... something broken? In need of quick repair... theres maybe something to fix, the shards? Then I'll be out of your hair... then its not a problem anymore.' She shrugged, she'd probably have to remember that.
Kanae heard a person say there was something broken behind the lute. "What's broken behind the lute?" she asked. Though the challenge hasn't started yet, it was good to at least know who you're with and start letting your braincells work.
She then noticed someone familiar...

Twisted Tavern
It appeared this group wanted to take things nice and slow, something that was a tried and true method. After all, slow and steady wins the race, right? As they gazed across the room, they could pick apart a few details that seemed they might relate to the first clue. To start off, there was a small raised platform, akin to a stage. And on said platform was a lute, primarily used by bards. Behind the lute, there appeared to be shards of some kind. They were white as cream, and were clearly sharp, from possibly a ceramic object. It was obvious that they were definitely out of place.
By the door they came through were a collection of potions, a couple different colors sitting in the wide array of bottles. While it didn’t appear that they were related to the clue they were currently solving, perhaps they could come in handy later on.
It was a very good thing that these kids had decided not to give any of the bottles dotting the bar a swig, given the ages of the patrons. Thankfully, as this was an official ball, they probably weren’t alcohol. That would be illegal, and as fun as mischief may be, being in trouble with your professors was not. Reuben feigned a hurt look at Zophyr, "I drank a small bit of all of those just because I knew it would annoy you", he lied. He then went to the table and started to investigate the potions, hoping to recognize few of them.
After a few more people entered, the door closed, locking them inside. "What the hell is going on?" After hearing Zoph's sentence Reuben realized just what the hell he had gotten himself into. "...What game...?"
Zophyr then seemed to notice some paper with a riddle or something. Just what had Reuben gotten himself into? Zophyr and another person seemed to have the same thought about some broken shards behind a lute. Reuben looked at the some other person and kept looking. She looked beautiful... so damn beautiful. Reuben recognized her instantly as the girl who lost her brother, who Reuben had originally assumed was her boyfriend.
"Hi... You doing a bit better now?", he asked, finally looking away towards the lute in an attempt to not stare at the girl. What had happened to him? Why could he not keep his feelings at bay knowing how much having these feelings hurt him in the end?
"Yeah... Shards makes sense.", he replied to Zoph. "Also aren't lutes used by bards or something?"

ReducioKanae giggled a bit at the other two people's interaction. She jumped a bit at the sound of a door slamming. "EEEH?" she exclaimed, while looking back at the door.
Upon hearing there were shards behind the lute from the other person, she leaned to the side a bit for a better view, spotting a few broken pieces of something she can't identify. Her thoughts were interrupted by the boy she thought looked familiar. "Er- "Better" I guess you can say that." she said with a slight hint of her smile. Kanae tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and took a few cautious steps closer to the lute. "Maybe if we... fix whatever's broken, something will happen," she said aloud, half to herself, half to the others.
She crouched near the instrument, careful not to touch anything yet, and peered at the shards. They glinted in the light — not glass exactly, but not just random junk either. Kanae guessed tilted her head slightly albeit alluringly because of her features. Looking back over her shoulder at the two people with her, she said "We should probably try putting it back together... right?".
She paused, hesitating for just a moment before softly asking, "Do you think... it’s part of the challenge?" Kanae thought for a bit, perhaps they were supposed to use a spell? But what spell? A spell to repair? The brunette took out her wand, the syllables of the spell coming out clearly as she pointed the wooden stick at the shards. "Reparo."RP Word Count: 256/200

It appears that the once private room with two potential love birds, developed a sense of tense air, perhaps a lovers quarrel would be best reserved outside the halls amidst the ball, one failing to identify the potions at the make-shift tavern; likely a reflection to internal conflict as the previous victims of the tavern would suggest. Perhaps another attempt would be sufficient, should the tavern goers make use of their surroundings.
With the group growing in participants, the aid of one whom most recently joined served as the most useful by successfully casting the Mending Charm, repairing the once broken shards behind the lute on stage into a plain white mug, with a number "2" engraved on it's side. Within the mug, lays dormant the next clue, should anyone look inside, they'd fine two pieces of paper, one engraved with:

look for the potion where you entranced.
The other note, appearing peculiar, written in what may appear as a code despite the incoherent letters scrabbled on the paper, on it said:
