XXXXThe Ilvermorny girl came over, introducing herself as Devon. "Oh, it's nice to meet you! I'm Eonaria Kabukimono," she replied with a smile. Eonaria had never heard the name 'Devon' before, but it sounded interesting, almost bird-like. Not that she was saying Devon looked like a bird- she absolutely did not. Eonaria was talking about the name, the feeling that it invoked. ...what was she talking about it again? She brushed it off, turning to look at Lucy.

Image posted by the member
XX XXXXDevon looked puzzled at her haphazardly-made warning, while Lucy glanced at her drink, holding it up. Then she started talking about how delicious it was, with fruit and all. "Uh, yes, that certainly sounds delicious," Eonaria hedged out, "but... you know drinks could be spiked, right? A lot of substances are odorless and colorless. Like-" she shivered at the thought. "Veritaserum." Yikes, a lot of drama could start forming if it actually was in there. Imagine all the break-ups that could happen... Eonaria was starting to wonder if she was making a scene for no reason, a slight expression of doubt forming on her face. Still, that drink gave her a weird feeling... She began fidgeting with the green butterfly card tied around her wrist, turning it over and over.

XXXX"I'm just from regular 'ol England," Eonaria added. "But my family's from Japan... er, ancestrally." If Devon was from Devonshire, that'd be a painfully terrible pun. So people think it's cool...? She had never thought about this stuff before. Lucy was acting a little stranger than before, giggling more often and slurring her sentences just the slightest bit towards the beginning. She frowned at her, worried. Is she drunk? There's no way...! ...or maybe I'm totally overreacting. I haven't known Lucy for long, so maybe she acts this way normally?

“It’s nice to meet you, Eonaria,” Devon beamed at the other younger girl.

Devon glanced at Lucy’s drink. Would she be surprised if the drink turned out to be spiked? Probably not, considering plenty of teenagers here from multiple schools. She’d like to assume no one had ill intent, but she had no idea if that was the case. Besides, she knew next to no one, anyway. Did she sound naive? Maybe. But her first instinct wasn’t to run off to try the food and drink just yet. She’d rather dance, to be honest, but she wasn’t about to tell anyone else what to do. She had just met Lucy and Eonaria and didn’t feel like it was her place to interject in something she had no idea about.

“That does sound delicious … maybe as something to try later,” Devon replied, unsure what to make with Lucy’s choice of drink. She nodded her head along with Eonaria’s words. It made sense. Who knew what type of potion could have been mixed with it? “That does sound plausible,” she murmured. She blinked in surprise at Lucy’s change in topic and smiled at Eonaria’s response. “That’s cool. I’ve wanted to visit Japan. I’m from New York City.” She giggled at Lucy’s comments about her name, noticing the slight change in the younger girl. Was she always this friendly and upbeat, or was it from the drink? She glanced at Eonaria, wondering if she was thinking the same thing.

“Feel free to call me Dev; I don’t mind,” Devon smiled. “That would be a strange coincidence. I’m the youngest in my family, but it would still be very funny,” she laughed.

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam had not prepared to attend the ball at all. The problem lay in the fact that she would have picked out a different, less.... utilitarian outfit if she had know she was attending the ball. But since finding out that the ball and the Twisted Tavern would be held simultaneously, she had thought little of the former, and picked out an outfit which would not hinder her movements, because, by all means, she wasn't going to participate in an escape room in a ballgown.

She had grossly underestimated Ruth Fairchild's persuasion skills.

Sure, Pam had known that Ruth would drop by the Spring Soiree before joining them at the twisted tavern. She had also known that Ruth, just like her, was incapable of finding a date to the event.

What she had however not known was the fact that she had been the black-haired girl's last(only?) option.

Such were the consequences of being Ruth Fairchild's best friend.

Oh, what would have Pam not given to pretend like she wasn't there in her room when Ruth came knocking in the evening.

But alas, that was not her fate that evening.

The girl had also majorly overestimated Pam's skillset. Pam was barely capable of tying her own hair, which was more like a stubborn pet than an extension of her head, and her hairbrush was more of a weapon, so tying up Ruth's hair too was something she had not signed up for.

Lady Luck was on Ruth's (and probably hers too) side though, as they managed to get to the Great Hall on time after all. Pam could hear the soft music from a distance and couldn't help the excitement she felt. Ooh, atleast, there will be good food.

Her moment of admiration was cut off by Ruth inviting her to torture dance, and Pam temporarily considered running away, because she and dance, in the same sentence, were not meant to be. "You're asking me that after knowing that I'm incapable of dancing?" she frowned, glaring at her friend.

But since Ruth was... well, Ruth, and giving up did not exist in her dictionary, she figured it would make sense to get the painful stuff over with so she could drown her embarrassment with food afterwards. So she let the girl lead her onto the dance floor, saying warningly, "I'm irresponsible for any broken limbs you might end up with."

Adjusting her position in the uncomfortable straight-backed chair, Robin took another sip of her goblet, eyes wandering from person to person. She hadn't noticed anything too peculiar about anyone at the ball, which allowed her to relax slightly, especially since most of the people attending were also underclassmen like her. One older student, a pale brunette with a cascade of curls down her back, seemed also to be participating in Robin's favorite activity - observation.

A girl with an elegant green dress and long blonde hair waved to Robin, and her reaction was to squint her eyes, wondering why this person Robin had never met was waving at her. What if it's a Veela trying to lure me into a dance-off? She wondered, eyes narrowing even further, leaning back into her chair, not breaking eye contact and refusing to wave back. Nice try, enchantress. She also considered whether she had met the girl, and Robin had forgotten all about the interaction. She did that sometimes. Or perhaps there was some custom to the ball that Robin wasn't adhering to, and the girl was trying to help her out. Robin's eyes stayed glued to the pretty girl, watching her interact with Lucy and the other students. Robin was deciding that maybe the girl was just being friendly (doubtful) when she heard a familiar call being shouted into the hall, echoing slightly over the rest of the murmurs from the other students.

"MARCO!" She heard from across the room, recognizing the voice as belonging to her friend, Odette.

Robin's look of suspicion cast toward the unfamiliar blonde instantly became a huge grin as she recognized the traditional muggle game - the call of Marco was always supposed to be returned with its sister phrase, allowing the original caller to locate the secondary caller through sound. Robin was confident the voice belonged to Odette, as they had previously bonded over the muggle game when discussing their upbringings. Robin quickly scanned the room, eyes falling on her best friend, whose head was poking out above the sea of students, her eyes scanning the opposite side of the hall.

Robin, who took the call as a challenge, joined Odette by putting her drink down, pulling out her own chair and stepping on it, and shouting at the top of her lungs with no care in the world for who she disturbed, "POLO!" Robin stared expectantly at her taller friend, who was sporting the most beautiful dress, waiting for them to make the eye contact that would immediately turn this ball into a party. Robin knew that the girl had been swindling students for a paycheck all day (quite successfully), and Robin felt she was the perfect sidekick to help Odette further her financial schemes. (As much as Robin was an anti-capitalist, Odette was her friend, and it was as simple as that.)

"𝓥iolence was nervous, to say the least. She hadn't been to a ball ever before and going to one where she was going to be between people she hardly knew was unnerving. She hadn't even eaten lunch, and if not for Avina, she wouldn't be dressed in time either. She had spent all her afternoon getting ready. She put on makeup, styled her hair, and finally wore the gown which had been sent by her mother. Artemis had been beyond excited for her daughter to attend a ball and she had instantly owled the dress, jewellery and accessories in a package for Violence. However, as Vi was putting on the jewellery, she realised her mom hadn't sent her a ring. Sighing, she decided she would just have to let it be.

Her thoughts wandered to Azzure. She had been captivated by him from the very first glance—not just by his looks, though those certainly fueled her feelings as well. She didn't understand how she had ended up as his date- he looked like someone who would go with the prettiest girl in all of Hogwarts- but she had, and that made her happy. It was insane how, in such little time, she had grown to care for Azzure so much. The day they had spent near the lake had exposed her to the vulnerable side of Azz and she was glad he trusted her. She had also been able to sleep peacefully, without any nightmares haunting her in the dead of the night, after a very long time. A small smile made its way to her face, "Wow Vi, you're already blushing and you haven't even seen him yet. Shush and get ready fast."

────────☽☾────────

As the sun dipped and the sky started to darken, she walked to the Great Hall, hoping she hadn't kept Azzure waiting too much for her. As she entered, she was handed a dance card. It was supposed to be filled with people she would dance with that night. She held on to that as she walked further, only to notice that the house tables had been replaced with smaller, circular ones. The hall was lit up, a huge chandelier hung on the ceiling and there were long tables just near the entrance filled with dishes and drinks of all sorts. "Those look so delicious, I should thank the house elfs. But, that's for later. Merlin, there are so many people here already, how am I gonna find him?"

Just then, she caught a pair of soft, misty eyes already staring at her. She felt heat rise up to her cheeks, as she smiled and looked away for a second before returning her eyes to Azzure. She walked over to him, trying to regulate her breathing, "It's gonna be fine, chill! Nothing's going to go wrong tonight. Everything. Is. Going. To. Be. Fine!" she kept whispering under her breath until she reached him. "Okay, WOW! He looks so good, oh Merlin, I'm gonna melt. Can I hug him? Will he be fine with that? What if he's not? Handshake? You know what, he'll have to make the first move. I should definitely say something, why am I just standing here? UGH MERLIN'S GHOST! Okay, calm down."

"Heyy! You look-" she swept her eyes over his outfit swiftly, hoping he wouldn't think of her as a creep- "amazing. I hope I didn't keep you waiting for long! It's just that this dress is so difficult to put on, heh. And I'm not even sure if this suits me. My mother just sent it when she heard about the ball, so I had to wear it. I mean, she was really excited for this, you know? Fuck, I'm sorry I'm rambling, I'll shut up now." She took a deep breath and tried to look at anything but him. "Merlin, Violence, it hasn't even been 5 minutes since you met him and you've already embarrassed yourself." She scolded herself as she sheepishly scratched her head making a strand of hair fall out from her hairdo.

Graci was conflicted. She didn't know whether to go to this 'Spring Soiree' or not. She could hardly pronounce 'soiree' until she heard someone else say it.

She was most likely just going to sit in her bed and read. Or something. But gracieeeeeeeee, you have to go! How many soirees have you had the pleasure of going to? Graci had a bad habit of talking to herself, like there were two of her. It made thinking easier, and she knew it was just her up there. So she figured she was still sane. Hopefully.

Ugh, let's just go. Contrary to popular belief, Graci was genuinely excited.

She donned a dark skirt, and a shirt of the same fabric with long bell sleeves. The top had cute brown buttons on it, a pop of color she thought was needed for a spring ball.

She put on her normal converse, the eleven year old didn't wear heels, and even if she did she wouldn't've been able to walk in them.

Graci went down to the ballroom and was astounded by the sheer amount of pretty in one room. Pretty decorations, pretty people, pretty everything.

Given a dancing card, she thought it odd, why did she have to write down who she danced with?

She sighed, in awe. Then realized she would have to mingle. Oh dear. Mingling doesn't sound fun. At all.

She entered and had a sudden thought, This is the perfect place to make new acquaintances, I could simply bump into them or something. Though, with all these bustling people, I don't think it won't be hard to accidentally be pushed into someone.

As she was thinking that, she was in fact pushed into a few someones. Two girls.

"Gosh, I'm SO sorry!"

Luce was just standing there harmlessly, eating her food and drinking her mocktail, considerably less frequently then before. When Eonaria spoke about the possibility of the drinks being spiked, the expression in her face turned into that of a terrified puppy. She had to finish and swallow her current morsel of cheese quickly, to be able to flood the girl with questions.

"W-what do you mean, spiked? Like..." There came another heavy gulp, this time, purely out of fear. As Eonaria explained further, Lucy seemed more and more horrified, if it was even possible.
"Oh my! That's horrific! I-I've drunk nearly a half of it already!" She put her glass up demonstratively, her face full of sorrow.

Shoot, what do I do now? If... if someone put some malevolent potion into the drinks, as Eonaria says, then... then I'm likely also affected, right? Merlin's pants! Mom didn't tell me this could happen! "She said exactly, quoting, go to Hogwarts Lucy, it will be the time of your life, and you'll be safe!" Murmured the girl more or less to herself, as her thoughts fluidly passed into speech.

"But, why would anyone do something like that, unless..." For a few seconds, a glimpse of thought added to her horrified expression. "Unless they're really evil and want to start conflicts between people on purpose. Because the truth can hurt more than a lie." Lucy paused dramatically after that, soon adding: "Or at least, that's what my grandma say, I think."

Lucy, however, was paradoxically very relieved with the idea of Veritaserum. The Ravie had the exact opposite problem than being a liar. Her honest truth proved itself as devastating on many occasions in her rathr short life.

"Well, but we can't be sure that it's Veritaserum. We can't even be sure that we're not just panicking in vain, guys. Come on, we're likely just overreacting." Said the girl rationally, trying to lighten the mood a little. "Let's just... take a breath and hang on. Anyway... be right back!"

For a few secs, she got lost in the crowd. When she came back, there was no trace of the glass with the mocktail in her hands.

"Eh.. just in case." Shrugged the girl indefinitely, although, to her defense, her cheeks were becoming pink with embarrassment, for she wasn't as brave as she had been persistently persuading herself and the others she was, after all.

Now, though she was trying to get back into the conversation, she seemed distant, remaining silent, probably drowning in her thoughts.

Dammit, Lucy! Did you have to take the drink? But... it wasn't my fault! I was hungry and thirsty! This body needs fuel! Of course, but... ugh, dammit. Why can't I be just a little more restrained like her? Lucy glanced at Eonaria. Then again tho, where would be the fun in that?

"Eh..." She forced out after she heard one of the girls say New York. "Sorry, I... I wasn't paying attention. Did you," her following glance belonged to Devon. "Say New York? Like, TheBigAppleNew AmsterdamTimesSquareStatueOfLibertyEllisIslandBroadwayAndOther New York?" The long specification of New York city which she came up as a fast mixture of the names of New York's probably most famous tourist sites, coming out of her mouth as fast as a lightning.

"That's so cool! My grand aunt lived there, before she moved to Florida. She was so funny, she'd call Muggles No-Majs! Me, Les and Lore... eh, they're my siblings." Did she add quickly, then moved on with her speech. "We usually stayed there for a month in the summer, and when we came back, we kept calling them No-Majs for like... a week or two too, he he. Speaking of which, are there any other things that are called differently here and in America?" And there she was again - her chuckling and merry and curious about everything self. Reason? The thoughts of her family!

Then, she turned to Eonaria. "Japan is cool too! Do you read the tiny comic books which are originally from there? Can't remember the name, but Lore has dozens of them all over our house. He's surely brought some to Hogwars too. Can't spend a day without them, eh... addict." The last word, Lucy was trying to disguise with coughing.

XXXAfter making his way across the grounds, Akari entered the Great Hall. It was much more lively in here, with more students milling about and having fun. It seemed to be mostly younger students, most likely looking for prospecting dances. Ah, young love. Oh, wait, I'm the same age as them. Akari hummed, scanning the large hall. The ceiling reflected the sky outside, which was a wonderful touch.

XXXHe spotted a certain someone standing near the refreshment tables, with two other girls. Akari grinned. It's good to see her making more friends. Now... He moved discreetly, slipping casually through the crowd. The music was much louder in here, along with the chatter of students, creating a cheerful environment. He crept up behind Eonaria, who seemed to be in discussion with a Ravenclaw and a girl from another school. She kept flipping her butterfly card over and over. He seized his chance and swiped the card dramatically.

XXX"Aha!" Akari announced. "See now, for I have looted your illustrious dance card!" He flipped it over so the butterfly was facing upwards, holding it out to her between his index and middle finger, a gesture that he recently took a liking to. "I would invite you to dance, but I would hate to intrude upon your time spent well with thine comrades." He flashed her a grin. "I totally didn't convince your brother to tell me what you were wearing. As you can see, I have made a great sacrifice." Akari gestured grandly at his outfit.

XXX"Farewell, then! It was excellent seeing you here. I will be... elsewhere." He added before striding purposefully off to... elsewhere. Akari wasn't exactly sure where he was going. Perhaps he should stick with his original goal of meeting some of the duellers of Hogwarts. How would he find them, though...? For now, perhaps it was best to let his path take him wherever it wished.

XXXXDevon seemed to at least somewhat believe Eonaria's warning, which was good. Lucy, on the other hand, looked absolutely horrified. She lamented the already-drunk portion of the drink, holding it up for emphasis with a face full of sorrow. Then she started murmuring to herself. Eonaria listened, puzzled. Then Lucy straight-up vanished. Eonaria blinked, staring at the empty space where the Ravenclaw had just been, then at Devon. "What the..." Then Lucy reappeared, thankfully, and without the drink. She nodded awkwardly. "Oh. That's, um, good, then. That you got rid of it, I mean." Was that a strange thing to say?

XX XXXXDevon, interestingly, was from New York City. Oh, that one really famous one! "What's it like living there?" Eonaria asked curiously. Lucy immediately began speaking really fast in a string of words that she did not understand. Then she started discussing her family... and No-Majs. "Whoa, quick change of topic," Eonaria spluttered. She wanted to ask questions, but she had no idea what to ask. Apparently, Lucy did, so Eonaria turned to look at Dev for the answers to Lucy's questions, because, uh, Lucy's questions had been directed towards Dev. Obviously. "Tiny comic books...?" She questioned. "No, I don't think I've read any of those." Was that something she was supposed to know? Maybe it was more of a Muggle Japan thing. Or maybe her family just didn't think they were important.

XXXXJust then, Eonaria felt the card she was holding slip out of her hand. She immediately turned around, her jaw nearly dropping when she heard that familiar voice. "Oh, you're here, too?" She squeaked. Akari proceeded to then hand her card back to her, speak Shakespearean, and walk away. Eonaria stood there for a moment, blinking in bewilderment as her brain finally comprehended that he had matched his outfit to hers. "Umm..." she said slowly, turning back to Dev and Lucy. "What were we saying, again?"

𝕽uth ignored Pamela's bite, her fingers lacing with her best friend's as she turned, causing the two of them to spin. "And I'm responsible for all the times you feel an ache in your toe," She teased back. "Come on, it'll be fun."

The music swelled just then, its crescendo driving Ruth into jubilance. Hand tightening around Pam's, the girl let out a carefree laugh as she continued tugging Pamela closer to the center of the floor. She spun clumsily, nearly tripping over her feet and bringing the other down with her, but she recovered, breathless, and continued as if nothing had happened.

Would it not have been clear that Ruth Fairchild had never been to a ball before? The music, the formalwear, the decorations, and everything in its entirety? The chiffon of her mother's dress flared with motion, rippling as she gave a delighted twirl to watch it catch air like a petal in wind. Silently, she thanked her mum, the smile on her face practically glowing as she danced back to Pamela's side, the lace near the hem swaying in time with the two girls. Reaching down, Ruth lifted the skirt ever so slightly, swishing it dramatically in a circle.

To others, it would have seemed as though Ruth was exuberating a confidence she didn't often show. It just couldn't be helped. For a brief moment, Ruth let herself forget everything else. No schoolwork. No problem. Just music, movement, and a dance card itching to be filled.

Oh, they were a mess. At least, Ruth was. She was a joyful, chaotic mess. The hair that Pamela had somehow managed to pin together was coming apart, strands cascading down until her hair looked like it always does on an ordinary day. But she couldn't care less. Her cheeks were starting to hurt from grinning, and her attempts to glide rather than hop, sweep more than just stomps, wasn't working. So she just let it be.

Just for that day.

"Pam! You aren't doing as bad as you said you would!" Ruth laughed, catching her breath as she pulled her into another spin. The two pivoted towards the snack and drinks, and in her haste to make sure neither of them bumped into an unsuspecting snack consumer, the Hufflepuff made a wild step to the left--too eager, too quick--but with a definite tap, stepped right onto Pamela's foot.

Ruth winced, "Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, Pamela." Her hands moved with vigor, though unsure of what to do with them. She looked around wildly, then just grabbed the nearest punch available. "Here, have a drink. I, uh..." Ruth ran a hand through her braid, more strands loosening at the ends. "I'm so sorry." She lent out a hand to lead the girl to a nearby free table. Despite the initial panic, Ruth couldn't help but let out a light chuckle. "Told you I'd step on your toes."

She let Pam take a seat, then stepped back. "I'll go get some food, how about that?" And with that, she turned on her heel and scampered away towards the snacks table, a flush creeping up her neck as her fists clenched against her dress.
