The Spring Soirée
Image created using Bing AI.As anyone who walked into the Great Hall would see, it had been transformed into the perfect space for this event. The long house tables that under usual circumstances stretched from one end of the room to the other had disappeared, replaced with smaller round tables, seemingly made of a different wood entirely. The chairs at each of these tables had taken new shapes as well, leaving behind straight-backed white seats, complete with each place set in the traditional medieval style. In the center of each table stood a centerpiece, each varying from one another. There were bouquets of pink flowers at some, and sparkly depictions of magical animals at others, each accompanied by a candlestick, the table bathing in the candlelight.
At the front of the room, just by the entrance, were longer tables to hold the food and drink needed to satisfy everyone in the castle. The food stuck to the theme, and many of the plates held medieval style food, such as meat and fruit charcuterie boards, fish or duck centered dishes, tarts and pastries for dessert, candied fruit and cheese for a more traditional dessert, along with some drinks. There even appeared to be an entire bowl of raw potatoes, available for those that wanted a more… unique experience. All the food and drink were available in a buffet style arrangement, designed for the patrons to pick and eat the food they felt the most compelled towards.
The rest of the hall had been transformed as well, and was sufficiently different from the normal. Fairy lights had been hung from the ceiling, draped to cast a soft glow across the entire ballroom. The arches that held the Great Hall together differed depending on the lighting, with many warmly lit towards their base, and darkening when they were farther into the ceiling, away from the lights. The walls were decorated with the natural light of the windows, the light casting an eerie glow, and walls seemingly made of darker brick. A grand chandelier hung from the rafters, illuminating the interior below and shining splendidly for all to see.
Thankfully, there remained sufficient room to dance with peers in the center of the Great Hall. The music that filled the hall would remind some of Celtic folk songs, fun and lively to dance along to. They were full of joy, designed not to slow dance to, but to laugh and smile with any partner on the dance floor as you swung around the room. As the students had walked through the entrance, they were greeted with a blank dance card, for them to fill out with their partners for the night. The adventurers that would brave through the evening at their side. Finally, the floor was open to dancers, and the ball had begun!Reducio

Upon entrance into The Spring Soirée, each player will receive a "dance card", a RP opportunity for players to engage with. Within the dance card, names of whom your character dances with must be recorded, beware of prying eyes should their names not be found within the dance card and they are dancing with your player, as this would be the most scandalous thing to do.
NOTE: The inclusion of dance cards is solely for a RP opportunity, you are not obliged to comply with this, but should you mention it, please ensure the character your character dances with, was included in the dance card.OOC Information

Luce came to the spring ball slowly. For once, she was wearing a formal attire, that was an ankle-long-sleeved, dark blue overall, whose pant legs looked like a skirt (unless one was looking at her for a longer time when she was walking, then it was visible that they were pant legs), and whose top layer was made of the translucent chiffon, which had tiny little golden stars all over it. They weren’t just regular cloth symbols though. They were filled with magic, moving around and creating a variety of star constellations. The overall was, nonetheless, slightly bigger than it was supposed to be, which was visible especially in the area of the girl’s chest.
That night, Lucy hadn’t left anything to a coincidence. Her shoes – low heeled ballerinas, had matte blue colour, slightly darker than the overall. On her head, there was a blond wig which perfectly copied her long hair, which, when loose, was curly. It seemed that either she had a halo around her head or her hair was producing some sort of dimmer light around itself, especially when she was happy or excited. It was due to the fact that the wig sent to her by her mum was enchanted too and shone whenever she felt a strong, positive emotion, such as joy.
Her wand was, for once, in a decent, dark brown leather case, hanging on the chiffon belt-like strip tied around her waist.
If there still were some doubts about what her costume meant, it was a Star from the Muggle fantasy film Stardust, obviously.
Luce slowly walked into the Great Hall, checking her pocket watch, which had been transformed with immense effort by her, in her first Transfiguration class, from a whistle. There were still very few people here...
Someone gave her a card, with a butterfly, which said “dance card”.
“Uhm... I don’t think I’ll need this.” Stated the girl adamantly, then stuck the card into the pocket of her overall.
She moved to check out the food tables then.

"Bloody hell!" Colin awoke with a start. It had been a hard week and --- who in their right mind always schedules school functions for the day before full moon!? Honestly! You'd think they just loathed werewolves or something! He had laid down to rest for a moment before getting ready and checking his watch he ---
"Ah craporific!" Colin cried out. He was already late! "Come on Greebo, we're late!" he said, pushing his black cat off his face and sliding off the bed. "Where's me kilt!? Where's me shirt!?" Colin shook out his Ravenclaw blanket, retrieved his kilt and, with his wand held between his teeth, got that on. A quick flick of said wand touselled his hair into something approaching a better class of bird nest!
Colin ran out of the dorm and into the corridor that led out to the common room!
Colin ran back into his dorm, reached up into his book shelf where he'd stuffed his shirt earlier.
Colin ran out of the dorm again, slipping on his white shirt as he went!
"Drat! Emmi's going to kill me if I'm late!" he muttered to himself as he dashed out of Slytherin House and into the main corridor. He ran up all five hundred forty three thousand twelve score and seven steps that led up to the main level, messing with his buttons and arranging his enchanted satchel as he went! At last he burst through the high archway that led into main level of the castle. Colin shoved a couple of wayward first years aside as he hurried along, his bare feet carrying him gracefully over the smooth stone floor. He skidded to a halt before the Great Hall. He looked down.
"Aw, bloody ---" With a sigh, Colin undid his mismatched buttons and redid them up proper, leaving the top few undone. Running his fingers through his mop of hair, he pushed through the huge doors and ran into the grand space! "EMMMIII!!!??? OWOOOOOOOOO!!!" He dashed into the centre of the room and looked all around the place. Could it be?
Wait.
If Colin were late, why was the place all but empty?
Rummaging in his pocket, Colin withdrew his pocket watch. He blinked several times. Colin turned the watch right side up. He laughed at himself. "Ach! I'm actually not late! EMMI! I'm not late! I'm --- wait." Colin looked around. He thought for sure he had the place almost entirely to himself! There were just a couple of people around! "Hah! Being not late means I'm early! That's the Colin I know!" he said. "I can't wait for Emmi to show up!" Colin decided to check the place out until his Eyes of Sky arrived. You just never knew when something chaotic would occur!

Thoughts: italicsDevon giggled quietly as she stepped into Hogwarts Castle from the grounds. It had been a short walk from the campgrounds, where the Ilvermorny students were staying during their visit to Hogwarts. Ever since she heard of this ball, she knew she wanted to attend … even if she was alone, like now. Nevertheless, the young Horned Serpent was happy to attend such a ball. She had always been impressed with the Great Hall, and this would be no change in that matter.
Glancing down at her outfit of choice, Devon giggled again. She loved fantasy. It was one of her favorite genres when she had time to read. While she was typically an outdoorsy girl, she enjoyed reading and playing video games at her home in muggle New York. So, she was quite familiar with the theme. As such, she wore a lovely green dress that fit nicely in the fantasy element, along with light pink sandals with a low heel. She loved wearing sandals, so she still felt in her element. She was also adorned in a few accessories that reflected her budding interest in Divination. Her wand was tucked behind her ear.
Upon entering the Great Hall, Devon giggled even more as she was handed a dance card. “Oh my, this is so cute,” she muttered as she glanced at the front and back of it. ‘I love dancing, so this can be a great way to meet new people … boys ... girls ... anyone, I don’t mind, I’ll dance with anyone,’ she thought, a smile blooming on her lips.
Her green eyes looked to the ceiling, taking in the magnificent decorations. Whoever was on the planning committee for this ball certainly did a good job. Instead of immediately seeking to dance, she slowly walked around the Great Hall’s perimeter, admiring the decorations. She moved in the graceful pose of a dancer, each movement slow and calculated for now.Reducio

XXXXEonaria had woken up even earlier than usual. Today was the day of the Spring Soiree, her first ball that didn't involve her parents. It was unlikely for her to be dancing with anyone, but opportunities to dress up were always fun... Eonaria had gotten a new dress over winter break just for this occasion. Would she wear it again? ...yes, for absolutely no reason. She spent nearly twenty minutes just frowning at the mirror, tweaking her hair ever so slightly. It was never going to be perfect, but she was going to get it close.
XXXXAfter dozens of redos, Eonaria finally got a bun she was happy with. Then she proceeded to pace around, checking the time every 20 seconds as if it would magically speed up. Finally, at an appropriate ten minutes before it actually started, she left the Gryffindor common room. Now, as long as her hair lasted the trip down the stairs...
XX XXXXAn exceedingly loud howl erupted from the Great Hall, causing Eonaria to jump. She was almost there, still early, but what was going on there? Hopefully the chaos wasn't too terrible... she peeked in, seeing... a whole lot of nothing. Maybe like a couple of people, and a lot of furniture. Eonaria walked in, sucking in a breath. Oh, no. She was too early. Perhaps she should've applied the 'fashionably late' principle to this. How could she have forgotten? Eonaria wasn't sure what to do now. There was, what, one Ravenclaw and one Slytherin standing in the hall? A few others? Oh, it's Colin McCoire, her brain noted. And a girl from another school, it looks like. Should she talk to one of them? Should she go stand in the corner and stare at the doorway until one of her friends came in?
XXXXEonaria was handed an intricately detailed butterfly card, which was apparently for marking down the partners she danced with. Eeh? But I don't want to write on this! It's too beautiful! It also matched her dress. Actually, now that she thought about it, her dress matched the entire Spring Soiree, especially the fairy lights draped over the walls and the butterflies featured on the card. Eonaria grinned slightly. I'm so glad I didn't go with purple. And now... I wait, I suppose. She stepped over to the side, which was a perfectly reasonable place to be, you know. Not too in the way, not hiding. I should've coordinated something with someone.

"You don't think it's too plain, do you?"
"No."
"And my ribbon's sitting right?"
"Yes."
Emily fidgeted with the end of her pale blue dress anyway. It was strange. She felt she was wearing a rehash of her Autumn Ball outfit, only this time instead of navy and black, she was wearing blue with a white cardigan, grey tights and white shoes. She knew she was worrying over nothing. The third ball she's attended at Hogwarts so far and she still fussed about with how she looked. No doubt a trait she inherited from her mother against her will. She was lucky to scorn makeup and adopt a casual sense of style but she'd be damned when it came to fitting a dress code for an occasion like this. But this time it came with an extra special string attached.
"Do you think he'll like it?" she asked Casey, who refused to answer her.
"He" meaning Colin. Emily thought herself to be an odd choice of partner for Colin. He was tall-- well, taller. Wild. Mischievous. But also talented, athletic and clever. There was more she could say to describe how completely out of her league he was. Still, Colin asked her to join him for this ball. Emily wasn't going to say no. She liked Colin. He was a good friend. He helped her a lot. Heck, Emily was still certain he helped save her life back when her mark was still a mark and not a fading bruise. She always felt safe and uplifted in his company. It just meant that she'd have less time with Casey. Though as she looked back at Casey, who walked beside her down the stairs to the Great Hall, she could see he wasn't that bothered. Balls were probably still not his thing, she thought. He was probably looking forward to dropping Emily off and then leaving to do his own thing.
She nudged his forearm playfully with her own. "I'm sure you'll find something to do in the meantime," she said, almost in a way that was reassuring him that she'd be coming back for her. She smirked when Casey returned an eye-roll. A sign that he was still listening. That he'd still be around. And that he was okay with that.
They reached the doors to the Great Hall after their long, anxious journey from the bathrooms upstairs. Sharing a fist-bump with Casey before going in, Emily went in first. The room was beautiful with its classical style. Though it was surprising that only a small handful of students had arrived. Emily was eager to arrive close to the event starting, knowing that Colin was relying on her for company but she didn't think the two of them would be this early.
She could feel Casey's "I told you so" stare from behind her. She faced him with a sheepish grin. A year and a half of friendship and Emily still hadn't managed to charm Casey with her need for pre-punctual punctuality... Whatever that meant! Heck, even Colin wouldn't be this early--
Wait. There he was!
Emily spotted Colin in all his glory, looking ever so slightly worse for wear at the other end of the hall. The back of his hair was sticking out in a shape she hadn't seem before for one thing. His shirt was crinkled for another. But he looked smart! In his own way. Honestly, Emily wouldn't have it any other way. It was the same Colin she met way at the beginning, who became a part of her Hogwarts family. Colin could dress up in anything and Emily would take it like it was nothing. It was what made Colin "Colin"!
Emily went shy. She knew Colin the same way she knew Casey. They were friends. So what the hay had her so nervous? Ah... Probably because Colin wasn't Casey. Casey was Emily's thunder buddy. Almost like a brother because of how close they were. Colin was still just... A boy. Emily had never been to this kind of thing with a boy before. She wasn't in love. Balls had a lot of love in them. What if people got the wrong idea? No--! They were friends. Friends hanging out together as friends, doing friend things like friends would. Nothing to fret!
She inhaled a stabilising breath and fist-bumped Casey for one last time.
"I'll see you after. If you really do get bored, come find me...!"
Emily and Casey finally parted ways, a promise of a dance between them later if and when they'd see each other again. With Casey going off elsewhere in the room, Emily tiptoed in the other direction before grinning and surprising Colin with a snug from behind.
"I'm here~!" she giggled into his back. He was still skinny as ever. She snuck to the front of him when she let go, her eyes brimming with a mix of excitement and awe at him. He was dressed quite nicely for the occasion, excusing the crinkles!
"I didn't think you'd be this early!" she smiled teasingly. "You're really trying to make an impression for your younger ball partner, aren't you?"

Not even Lucy stayed void of impressions associated with the manner the organizers decorated the Great Hall. She looked up at some point, to see the fairy lights hanging from the ceiling, and the flowers on the tables. The music that was playing, she knew or thought she knew it at least. All songs of Celtic origin, Irish, Scottish, Cornish or Welsh, sounded somehow similar, according to Lucy's non-professional hearing.
She started humming a melody soon, one of those played in the Great Hall. Meanwhile passing around the desserts, she saw something that caught her eye - a strawberry tart with what looked like chocolate cream. Her eyes widened and she looked around, to see whether anyone was taking food yet.
As she was looking around, she spotted Colin's remarkable, confused entrance, also the way he checked his watch, but couldn't quite hear what he had said. He started calling some Emi, whom she had no idea about. What she could hear, was his rambling about not being late. Lucy grinned and shook her head.
"Merlin's gray beard, and there I thought I was the most confused person at Hogwarts these days." Did she giggle.
Then though, some girl came and started talking to him, so... there was shortly nothing special-attention-worthy anymore.
Nonetheless, not to be as chaotic as the poor boy, Lucy went back to her thought about the food. Were they allowed to pick it now? There was no one taking anything yet. Should she ask someone, but whom?
"Uhm..." She spotted a fairer-haired girl who looked unfamiliar, as well as everyone else for poor Channing, and a black-haired girl whom she knew from the lessons and who was observing the happenings. So she moved towards the girl she knew from lessons - Eonaria.
"Hi there, how is it going? You've got such a nice dress, and your hairstyle is also amazing! Are you supposed to be a..." Lucy narrowed her eyes slightly, apparently thinking. "Fairy?"
Asked the girl, pausing for a second.
"Uh.. sorry for asking, but.. what's your name? We have some classes together, so I recognize your face, but your name... I just... can't. Sorry." Exhaled Lucy and seemed genuinely sad about it. So much for the double apology.
She wasn't focused on that issue for much longer though. Her attention moved to the other girl who came to the Great Hall on her own.
"Huh, that girl..." she moved her eyes towards Kaitlyn to make sure she'd know who she was speaking about, "We could get to know her, hm? So that she's not alone here. Don't think I've met her before, but she might be older. What do you think about the idea?" Pointed out Lucy, looking at Eonaria expectantly.

Casey sighed and scratched the inside of his ear when Emily asked him - for the 67th time - if she looked alright. He didn't have the energy anymore to respond in full sentences, now delegated to simple "yes" or "no" answers. Honestly, girls were too fussy when it came to how they looked! Although Casey made a step up from the last Ball's outfit he wore, this time padded out in a fancier suit with furnishings along the lining, he still didn't see the need for all the glitz and glamour.
Though he could understand why his friend was being twitchy with her attire. Rather than spending the Ball with him as he initially hoped, Colin McCoire beat him to it when Emily was asked to go with him. With very little alternatives for company, Casey was sort of relying on Emily to spend the day with - as much as he felt bad for thinking that. He thought he had grown some when it came to his social capabilities. Though in the end, it wasn't like he had very many other friends to hang out with, save for Zyair and Scout. Wherever the hell those two were.
"Do you think he'll like it?"
Casey kept quiet as they descended the corridor stairs. Of course Colin would like her outfit. She looked great, but there were only so many lectures Casey could give her to stop her own self-depreciating remarks and worries. Colin would be enchanted by her. Then again, it wouldn't make much a difference when Colin was already drawn to her. Cursa's cousin loved Emily. "Yeah," he finally muttered.
Casey was happy for Colin to have those kind of feelings for her. He truly was. But he knew Emily as well as Scout did. That girl knew nada about reading other people's affection, much less her own. He hoped Colin remembered that too from their trip to France a while ago.
He smirked and lightly punched her shoulder. "I'll be nearby in case things go wrong. Hogwarts balls ain't designed to run smoothly, remember? Besides, I wanna make sure McCoire ain't doin' anythin' wacko. So it's not like I'll be starved of things to do anyway."
He said it with the honest motive that Hogwarts wouldn't throw a curve ball and disrupt a good time for everyone attending, but also to make sure that Colin wasn't overstepping a line he knew he couldn't cross. Until Emily figures things out herself, Colin wouldn't be snogging her under Casey's watch.
They arrived at the venue and he saw Emily shrivel timidly when the pair found Colin already in the room. Casey gave her a supportive pat to her back.
"You're overthinkin' this whole thing," he said to her. "Just go in and have fun like you guys normally would. And when you're done, we'll have that dance." He smiled proudly. "I've been practicin'...!"
They exchanged one of their many buddy fist-bumps and soon Casey let Emily go to meet with Colin. He backtracked and went over to one corner of the room, snatching a plate and filling it with a modest selection of chicken, bread and peppers before combining them altogether into a custom sandwich.
He reclined against the wall as he snacked on his concoction, his eyes dancing back between Emily and Colin and the rest of the room. He smiled as his buddies interacted with each other, a chuckle leaving him when Emily went to hug Colin from behind.
Yeah. He knew those two would be fine. Still, with a sandwich for the road, Casey was going to make sure the Ball still went according to plan. Whatever that looked like.

Spring had come, and with it the sun, the days grew longer, almost a bit too long for Azzure's comfort. Even now at 5:50 pm, the sun was just setting over the horizon, painting everything in a soft golden hue.
Azzure stood leaning against a pillar near the entrance of the annual Spring Soirée. She closed her eyes, sighing softly as she watched people pass her, dressed in suits and gowns that varied in height but all of them equally as extravagant and flashy. Azzure however, didn't mind, she could be late to the ball and she wouldn't give a shit. As long as she walked into the great hall. side-by-side with Violence, nothing else mattered.
The hard prodding inside Azzure's vest pocket reminded her of the little gift she bought for Vi. Though now, she wonders if it was still necessary. The promise she had enchanted within it —its one she wished would never have to come to fruition. After all, she could trust Violence. right?
Even now as she stayed still —leaning against the pillar, Azzure knew it was all just a matter of time till Vi got here, and then everything would be alright. After all, she knew she could trust Vi.

XXXXA Hufflepuff girl came in. Emily, Eonaria thought. She was pretty sure she got it right... or maybe she was getting confused with another Hufflepuff girl, Emiline. They didn't look alike, but maybe she was going crazy... Hopefully-Emily ran to give Colin a hug, causing Eonaria to go awwww from the sidelines. It was so cute! Hopefully she didn't seem creepy. Uh oh. Eonaria quickly turned away, looking curiously at the refreshment tables.
XX XXXXAnother first year, a Ravenclaw, came up to her. Eonaria was surprised at her casual outfit. Actually, on first glance, it seemed casual. The moment she looked closer, she saw the stars sprinkled throughout the dark blue fabric. "I love your outfit!" Eonaria told her with a smile. It wasn't something she would wear, but it looked excellent on her. "A fairy...?" Eonaria looked down at herself. She grimaced, thinking of those disturbing-looking little creatures. Their wings were pretty, but up close they creeped her out. "Um, I hope not. But thank you!" She was fairly sure that was supposed to be a compliment, considering compliments preceded the fairy comment. "Oh...! That would be very interesting, but I'm a little worried. What if Ilvermorny has different customs?" Eonaria shivered at the thought of doing something offensive in her culture.
XXXX Maybe she should have brushed up on her knowledge of other Wizarding schools before attending an event with students from other schools visiting. The foreign girl also wore a beautiful outfit. Aah, I'm going to be giving so many compliments tonight! Eonaria grinned to herself. I wonder if my cousin is going to show up? He didn't tell me anything, but maybe he will...
