Come Fly With Me!

5 April 2025
Colin headed out of the castle towards the Viaduct. It was the perfect spot! Liam was studying, of course, his twin had already rounded up Cursa for intensive RavenSerpent bonding. It had rained earlier and there were still sporadic showers. Perfect weather — for flying! Colin smirked as he headed out. Perhaps he could find some other kids for an impromptu race? Fastest one to fly through all the pillars of the Viaduct without dying or crashing on the stones below wins? Maybe loop-the-loops over and under the great stone bridge?
He stepped out onto the broad stony path that led away from the castle, down through the grounds and eventually to the road that led down to Hogsmeade. His bare feet made scarcely a sound. Not many kids were hanging around, probably because of the damp, though that never stopped Colin from getting out and flying or running or swimming or anything else! He smirked. He thought back to his duel with Koko Riddle last year. Most of that he’d fought under a very tiny and very neat rain cloud!
The clouds began to break at last. Oh well, So much for a water logged afternoon aloft! Sun and clouds had their own effect on flying of course, sometimes blinding, sometimes shielding the eyes of a flyer. Colin hopped up onto the broad stone parapet and looked over the edge. He could totally see why some people were terrified of heights. He reckoned it wasn’t really so much the height that was bad. It was meeting the sharp and hard rocks below at full speed that could put a damper in one’s day.
As a Pureblood, he was lucky in a way. Colin and his siblings had never been without brooms. Even before they could hold a wand and cast a spell, they were zooming through the castle or out on its grounds! Not very fast or very high up on their wee toy brooms of course! But flying was as first nature to Colin as walking, running, or swimming. He hoped that one day he’d be able to run free as a wolf, just as his animagus friends were able to fly or swim or run as their chosen creatures. But for now, he must content himself with the freedom of flight afforded by his broom.
Vailerama. Attack broom extraordinaire. “Right, you,” he addressed his broom. “No bonking me in inappropriate places today! We’re not racing, see? Just a wee contest of skill, perhaps, if anyone else shows up?" Colin smiled. Perhaps if practiced his broom surfing a bit, some other kids would notice and they could have a proper contest!

Alyss was sporting a giant grin as she walked along, broom in hand. She had a specific idea in mind, and it involved a great deal of fun. Upon picking up a broom at the beginning of the year, Alyss had been terrified and mystified. Why on earth would people enjoy shooting through the air at such fast speeds, not fearing for their own lives. Perhaps it was her own growth and maturity that allowed for her to give it a second thought, but now? Alyss completely understood. Who wouldn’t enjoy flying through the air as quickly as humanly possible, all for the sake of the adrenaline and the thrill that came with the wind blowing through her hair, giving her the feeling of freedom?
She had quickly started enjoying it to the point of allowing herself to have more fun in the broom in other areas, not just those where she was constantly being watched by someone, just due to the sheer number of student at Hogwarts. The grounds more often than not had a good few people around, so it was the trick of finding out where she could let loose on her broom.
As a first year, she had only ever gotten into Hogwarts via the boat ride, and thus hadn’t experienced the view provided by the thestral carriage ride into the school, only having gotten to hear about their adventure after getting settled into her own dorm. Upon hearing of the beauty that the Viaduct offered, she quickly hopped on her broom to go flying. That was, as soon as she got over her silly little fear, and that didn’t take too long at all.
It was just another day of a thrilling adventure, complete with flying around the pillars of the Viaduct and possibly laughing at any students she managed to scare while she was in flight. First though, she had to get there. The bridge itself was gorgeous, never ceasing to startle Alyss with the magnificent scene that was painted as you stood, every sense taking in so much at the same time. The wind, swooshing through your hair as you looked on at the gorge, glancing down at the boathouse below. It truly seemed like a page straight from a storybook.
As she stood, drinking in all of these little treasures the landscape offered, she could have sworn that she heard someone else behind her. Perhaps she just didn’t pay very good attention to her own surroundings, and that was why it came as a surprise to her when she realized that she had, in fact, heard someone.
Alyss had mounted her broom, smiling as it smoothly took off into the air, and turned around while on her broom to check behind her. That is when she noticed what- or more precisely, who- had made the mystery noise! It was Colin, and he was talking to his broom. Alyss giggled to herself, and then continued to giggle rather loudly at his shenanigans. Alyss had briefly met Colin before. Had they ever truly interacted? No, but he seemed to be known pretty well as a fun person who goofed off quite often, so exactly Alyss’ cup of tea. The boy was a few years older than Alyss, and noticeably taller than her, though that was no surprise. His platinum blonde hair seemed to spill from his head in no particular fashion, almost appearing to have been messily plopped atop his head. But above all, this fourth year had a broomstick in hand, and seemed to be speaking to it, asking it to not bonk him.
That was the true reason Alyss had laughed, but the atmosphere he had was really what made her comfortable. It was no extraordinary feat to get Alyss laughing, but this just felt ridiculous. “Colin, right? I’m Alyss. Wanna fly with me?” While she clearly found this situation funny, and had only spoken between laughs, it didn’t mean she couldn’t make good on what was set out in front of her. Colin was a Broom Racer, and from what Alyss knew, had been for years. He was the perfect person to fly alongside on her journey, perhaps one that would lead to more giggles.

Come Fly With Me!

Coming back from Flying Class, Maisie did not expect to see anything unusual. But she managed to get slightly lost turned around on the way back and found herself out on the school's viaduct. She had to admit, the view was spectacular and something she'd never quite appreciated as she didn't come out here often. Curling her hands around the edge, she just watched for a few moments as the clouds rolled in.
And that's when she saw them: two students out on brooms just beyond the viaduct. Well, that just wasn't fair. Throwing her right leg over the Silver Arrow, Maisie kicked off from the ground and flew off to join them.
The air was crisp and easy, reminding her of her stints as Keeper in a few unofficial Quidditch matches. That had been fun, hadn't it? In some ways she missed it, but she was proud of how she'd stood up in her last duelling match.
Narrowing her eyes, she tried to identify the two students ahead of her. The boy was older and she was certain she'd recognize someone with hair so white, but she didn't know who he was at all as he spoke to his broom playfully. Maisie let out a little chuckle. Meanwhile, the blonde girl—
—shit.
Gritting her teeth, Maisie slowed on her broom slightly. She had no problem with Alyss herself, but she had the distinct feeling that the other girl had been avoiding her gaze in classes ever since the unofficial duelling match. It had been quite a feat—her first KO—but the reality was that it was meant for Saunders. Alyss just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But Maisie suspected the Slytherin didn't understand that. How could she really?
Curving the broom slightly, Maisie strode over towards the boy. "You said something about a race?" she asked. A clear task would hopefully put any and all awkwardness at bay. And frankly someone as competitive as Maisie couldn't resist.

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
A Friday morning tended to err on the side of a certain tiredness that was linked to being so close to the end of the week that the mind couldn't seem to cause itself to focus entirely on the remainder of the school day that it was expected to participate in. Who wanted to be indoors or doing schoolwork when there was the potential for a three-day weekend to be had?
In other words, it was a perfect time to play hooky, and Piérre of all people knew that. Today he simply didn't feel like playing by the rules, nor did he feel he had any particular obligation to attend a set of classes that didn't service him with any important skills or benefits that he would need to carry with him as an adult.
So, a stroll out of the Main Entrance's great double-doors took his self to a mist-ridden place of great historical significance. The site of much of the Battle of Hogwarts: the viaduct.
Anyone who was anyone knew the tale of the Boy Who Lived, who was now serving a sentence in Azkaban for the murder of Dolores Umbridge. Gryffindor had, at one time, tried to discern if the sentencing had been rigged or if there had been something greater than what had first met the eye... only to have such research slowly fade away like the fog clouds that dwindled away from the gorge's flowing water down below. Here, one could walk in the very footprints of those that had lived through that history. Here, the thestral carriages drove the returning students to the castle for their years.
Piérre was... remarkably unimpressed with it all.
Maybe it was just the rising of a foul mood on this particular day. Something that he could hate himself over at a later time, perhaps.
But there were a few children here as well, as he tucked hands into his pockets to keep himself warm. The international schools were visiting, so there were familiar and not-so-familiar faces alike. Green eyes scanned them, committing features to memory as he did so. Figaro, who followed in his shadow, peered out from behind his legs with observant feline eyes.
He watched for a while, observing in the middle of the viaduct in silence as they loudly proclaimed bits and pieces that he could hear. Flying and Race being among them, and certainly most likely for a reason considering that most of them had brooms on their person.
Well... flying and racing were things he had an aptitude for, both in his human and slightly less-than-human forms. "Accio Orabella!" Came the calm incantation with a flick of yew and his other hand ready to receive the item. He knew exactly what his precious broom, gifted by his uncle, looked like and knew exactly how she flew and how fast. In a glitter of gold like a trick of the light, the elegantly groomed beauty of a broom flew in a hasty path from its place leaned against a nook of the Niffler Nook and directly into his grasp.
A small, if tiredly hopeful smile formed as he hesitantly strode forwards to stand among the gathering throng. Yes, a race. That could be fun. Something, anything, to serve as a distraction.
"If it's racing, Colin, I demand a rematch." He called to the blonde menace with almost a lazy air of boredom infecting his intonation. "I need some way to prove that I can earn my salt in racing. Maybe I'll learn something new. Most certainly there'll be something exciting with you around."
Side-saddled on the golden Starsweeper, Piérre gently eased her into the skies. He would start slow. Eventually it would turn hard and fast, but for now it was good to simply have the cool misty air from the ravine below gently blowing through his hair and nipping the tips of his ears. Sidling closer to Colin, the boy summoned a smile for an old friend (and an excellent kisser). He had to keep them close. Had to keep them very close.
Because he had learned that he simply didn't know how much longer he would have with them.

"There we go...! Perfect!" Emily grinned as she weaselled back out of the nook in the pillar, her movements careful and methodical as she hovered on her broom. She had suspected for a long time that a family of birdies were living in and around the viaduct, basing off the sweet chirps she had been hearing as she went back and forth across that part of the school. The only way to see if it was true was to leave some nibbles from her bag of provisions. Food brought everyone together after all.
With breadcrumbs dusted into the space, Emily flitted back out into the open air with her broom. If there really was a family of birdies living nearby then she could excitedly add this spot as another area to do her weekly feedings around. She hovered in the air as she took in the viaduct. For a location of Hogwarts steeped in history, Emily hardly ever spent time in the area. She thought she should come by more often. The view was stellar. Very good for some light broom flying. She had taken a slightly bigger shine to her broom in recent days. She wasn't anxious to be the next Chaser or broom racer, God no. But she was starting to see the charm in just lazing about on the broom and feeling the breeze between her limbs.
As she angled the broom upwards to get back onto pedestrian pathing, she overheard some commotion coming from off the side. A cacophony of voices echoed across the viaduct, one of them striking than the rest. Emily's eyes lit up as she eagerly rose up higher into the air through polite instruction to her broom.
She saw Colin armed with Vailerama in hand, as well as a few more students lingering by him with brooms at their side as well. Being the broom racer Colin was, Emily could take a guess where this was going. She should hide her own broom now before Colin would rope her into an unconventional broom race with the rest.
She snuck up behind Colin, a low hover on her broom and tapped his shoulder with a soft touch, smiling and waving if and when he'd turn to see her.
"Back on the ol' broom again, my friend?" she asked needlessly. "Well, before you go blatching anyone, I'm going to sit back and watch." She tapped her nose. "I'd rather not have a repeat of last time, please and thank you!"

The viaduct was one of Aly's favourite places at Hogwarts, hands down - beaten out perhaps only by the Ravenclaw common room, the Astronomy Tower, the library, and the Great Hall (but only when they were serving shepherd's pie). She often spent time here when she had only a handful of minutes between classes, standing on the bridge, the wind whipping her hair with all the force and fury her cat Dauncey never had, looking down at the raging waters and rocky gorge far below her. More than once she'd considered using the long support pillars, arcades the arches were called, as agility practice atop a broomstick, but she'd only recently taken to carrying her broom with her when she wasn't headed for practice on the pitch, and she'd never wanted to risk losing her spot on the Quidditch team - and her newly gained co-captaincy, so even more as of late - by flying in restricted airspace. Until now.
When there were dozens of students doing it, many of them younger and less skilled than Aly herself atop a broom, chances were she wouldn't be caught, right?
And so here she was, walking along the stone parapet with a firm left-hand grasp on her Oakshaft - her teammates would kill her if she shattered it and needed a new one from the broom fund, but she was not about to race on a school broom and thus lose to a first-year. As such, she was determined to not break it and to race with only the utmost caution... well, mostly. As she approached the predetermined location, she noted that there were already a few folks there - some already hovering, others with their feet on solid ground. Though most of the gathered were younger and thus unfamiliar to her, one face did stand out - white-haired and pinch-faced, he was in green this time instead of burgundy, but she'd remember that ugly mug anywhere. At least there was only one of him instead of two like there had been last time, when the pair had shouted obscenities at her from the stands during the match against Gryffindor back in January, suggesting, for instance, that someone set her on fire. Aly narrowed her eyes, noting that most of the people here already seemed to be flocking to him. Was this the Colin bloke that had organised this whole thing? If so, Aly had only grown twice as determined to beat him and win in the last thirty seconds. If she was on fire, he could eat smoke.
Ignoring him, the sixth-year hopped atop her broom and leapt from the bridge in a passable semblance of liftoff. Years of flying expertise and Quidditch playing had given her enough skill to do it haphazardly and still look pretty cool unlike some people who had to practice their flying tricks.... Pulling herself back up to the height of some of the nearby flyers, she pulled up alongside the other familiar, and much friendlier, face, reaching out a leg to lightly kick Piérre in a way that hopefully wouldn't actually hurt him. She has 5 STR; I doubt it hurt. "Mate, we don't talk for almost a year and then see each other twice in two weeks," she ribbed with an affable, slightly lopsided grin. "How's it feel to actually have some real competition now, eh? Makes beating first-years feel less like kicking Cruppies."

XXXEonaria was terrified.
XXXOf course she was, how could she not be? Her teeth were literally chattering slightly and she could swear she could feel her knees trembling. It seemed like an extreme reaction for a fun race, but... needless to say, Eonaria would not be participating. She had to put herself out there sometime, but drowning after falling off of her broom did not sound like a good way to die. She was terrified of heights, terrified of drowning, and also terrified of diving.
XXXWell, maybe she'd try diving. Just this once. Assuming there weren't sharp stones waiting to stab her beneath the surface...! Eonaria shivered, glancing out across the viaduct. It was an impressive and intimidating structure, a bridge that stretched far out over a gorge.
XXXIt sounded even worse now.
XXXEonaria had indeed brought her towel just in case, along with her winter cloak. What if she got sprayed by water? Or what if the rain decided to come back? She was also pretty sure if she continued to panic, her shoulders would cramp up. Eonaria took a deep breath, tensing her back and relaxing it again. I've got this. ...even though I won't technically be doing anything. You will be safe...! Unless I fall off of the viaduct.
XXXShe wanted to cry now.
XXXOKAY, stop that! Keep walking! Her brain ordered. There was no way she was going to back out when she was already here! Eonaria could see Colin McCoire, the guy who orchestrated this whole thing. She recognized him from the Great Hall all those months ago. Speaking of which, she still had not yet figured out the mystery of the hag slugs. He was already on his broom, flying vaguely in the distance near some other students whom had already arrived. Eonaria made sure she did not bring her broom so that she could not be coerced into flying. Although, they did seem to be having a lot of fun...
XXXAs she watched, an older Ravenclaw just hopped on her broom and lifted right off from the stone parapet to join the others. Eonaria watched, astonished. What if I take off and my broom refuses to fly? Then I'll plunge into the dark depths of the gorge and die!!
XXXAs you can tell, Eonaria doesn't like flying class too much. Yes, it was fun... mostly... sometimes... but it was also deathly terrifying. Did we mention terrifying yet?! Oh right, yeah. A lot of times. Eonaria sat a safe distance away, against the wall that lined the edges of the bridge. What if it breaks and I fall?! It's stone, it's not breaking under your weight!! She tried desperately to force her body to relax. Nope, heart rate still elevated. Maybe she'd find one of her friends here.

ReducioThe Viaduct. An expansive foundation of stone connected to the entrance of Hogwarts. The black lake was visible far below … along with many sharp rocks! It was simply a lovely view of the grounds and environs of Hogwarts. Its arches were also a perfect location to practice flying, as they made for a natural obstacle to avoid. Plus, there were all the twists and turns to fly around the viaduct. As long as her flying was good, it would promise to be a perfect spot to practice … maybe even to practice with others.
At least, that was what Kaitlyn had in mind when she left the castle with one of the school brooms in her hands. Quidditch seemed interesting … and broom racing looked fun. For either of those, however, she needed confidence in her flying. So, perhaps if she flew around the viaduct, it would benefit her learning.
After she mounted the broom and soared into the air, Kaitlyn noticed that many other students had the same idea! That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Plus, if they were all there for the same thing - flying - maybe she could gain the confidence to pull off some of the moves needed when flying … especially around the viaduct. She had to be safe, after all! The last thing she needed was to be injured. No, that would simply not do at all!
Kaitlyn noticed Colin … of course. It seemed whenever there was something involving flying, he was right there. For example, when he tried to fly two brooms at once, he sustained injuries when he fell to the earth. If her memory served her correctly, Colin was a Slytherin broom racing team member. Despite his love of theatrics and putting on a show for the audience, she could tell it would be wise to learn from him. She also noticed a younger girl near him … one that she could have sworn she’d seen around the Slytherin Common Room … wasn’t she the newest Slytherin Co-Captain for their broom racing team? Another good person to learn from. From that direction, she could have sworn she heard something about a race? She also spotted a girl … one that was perhaps younger than her … sitting on the viaduct. She had no idea who this girl was, but she gave a friendly wave in her direction.
Flying over to where Colin and … the co-captain’s name was Alyss … were, Kaitlyn spotted Emily near Colin and waved to her. “I heard something about a race?” She asked. Nervous energy ran through her, and yet, the ambition and desire to learn. If she ended up joining the team, she wanted to at least know what she was doing.Word Count:

Pam had been much less nervous about swimming in the morning. What if she fell? What if she broke her bones? What if she died?! I'm too young to die from falling off a broomstick. That would be sad. Oh my god, my father... Okay no, don't think about all that. She had been trying to practice as much as she could, although, she wasn't exactly sure what she was doing most of the times. Her direction disorientation got worse up in the sky.
The Viaducts were beautiful. The Great Lake was visible from the top in all its glory, surrounded by large rocks. Pam's attention however was snatched by a familiar face she had not seen in a while. Eonaria seemed to be uncomfortable there though, and Pam found herself wondering if the girl was scared of heights. Better not startle her then. Walking up to her, she announced her presence to the girl with a, "Nari! Long time so see!" Before slinging her arm around the girl's, "Should we go together?"
She raised her eyes to see the guy who had organised the thing. what was his name again..? Right, Colin McCoire. Pam needed to remember that. She had never actually spoken to the guy, atleast not that she could remember anyway.
Shifting her grip on her broom, Pam glanced down at the Great Lake below, shivering as she took in the distance. That's gonna be a death fall... No, it's fine, I'm not the only person here. Someone will save me. Probably. Hopefully. She swallowed, glancing away before she could break out in cold sweat.
As she boarded her broom though, a thrill went through her, excitement coursing through her veins. She smiled at Eonaria, "After you."
