Following the events of Are You Sure?
XXXThe girl's lavatory was a large space of tile and marble, the faint rumbling of pipes and distant chatter creating an echo that bounced off of the smooth surfaces. The air was chilly and didn't seem to have much circulation, but it would do as a solitary space. Eonaria twisted one of the copper faucets, letting the freezing water run over her hands and jolt her awake. She usually woke up an hour earlier than this, but the events of last night had her thoughts spiraling into the wee hours of the morning. At least she had gotten a few hours of sleep, though not sufficient at all.

XXXHonestly, it might actually be better if I didn't sleep at all... at least I'd be able to run on adrenaline. Eonaria turned off the faucet and shook her hands before pressing them to her face. She let out a squeak at the sudden, alarmingly cold contact and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Merlin, I feel like crap today...

XXXShe stared blankly at her reflection in the slightly dusty mirror, an unwilling smile beginning to creep up at the corners of her mouth as she recalled something she had said nearly a month ago: "It's too early in life to be depressed!! Of course, Eonaria was not, in fact, depressed, she just didn't know what to do.

XXXUnfortunately, it was not the weekend yet, so she still had Potions class later that morning, and then Charms, and then... whatever came after. Eonaria groaned. Usually she could recall her schedule perfectly, even only a few weeks into the beginning of the school year, but today she was just completely out of it.

XXXRaiame... I still don't understand it all... mostly. Is that really the way he thinks? He looks at a Muggleborn and his brain goes 'oh, inferior person, descended from inferior squib?' I can't imagine such a thing... But maybe he's right. I should ask Mother when- or if- I return home for the holidays. I could also write Father a letter... I still haven't decided whether I'm returning home or not. Then again, I could use all the resources in our library... and Raiame could help me. I'd imagine Hogwarts wouldn't want books encouraging prejudice, so I probably won't find anything helpful there... Eonaria rubbed her face again with a sigh, leaning forward onto the edges of the limestone sink.

Avis hadn't slept well the night before. It wasn't that she had slept badly, it had just been one of those nights when no matter how long you sleep, it's all very shallow, and you aren't rested. Regardless, Avis' internal clock had woken her up at 6. Yet again. It was good, in some regards, to wake up early and prepare for the day, but when sleep hadn't come the night before, it was a nightmare.

Nonetheless, Avis was up. She dressed quietly and slipped out of the room, careful not to wake her dormmates. Avis didn't have a slow routine, she wasn't one to spend two hours styling her hair, but by the time she had exited the common room, her bedhead was gone, without a hint that she had been in bad just a half hour before. In her opinion, night and day were two separate things, not to be mixed. Her satchel was slung over her shoulder and her wand was slipped into her pocket. Her day had begun, and she wouldn't think about sleep until tonight.

Avis headed out down the tower and stopped in the library, plopping down to check and read a history book about handkerchiefs. Fascinating. Once she had truly bored herself out of her mind, she pulled out her History of Magic book. Compared to handkerchiefs, this was enrapturing. Avis noted that down for future studying times. As she checked the time, she jumped up. It was already 7:30, and she hadn't even eaten breakfast yet, nor did she have her book for her class this morning. She shoved her book into her satchel and softly slipped out of the library.

She bolted up the stairs, to her dorm, almost crashing into a Ravenclaw as she passed through the common room. She gave the lad an apologetic grin and slipped into her dorm, rummaging through her trunk for her charms book. She crammed in--neatly--into her satchel, frowning at the paper cut that started to bleed on her hand. Great. Breakfast was going to be grab-and-go today if breakfast was there at all.

On her way to the Great Hall, she popped into the lavatory to rinse the slowly spreading blood of her hand. She quietly crashed in, turning on the sink and watching the water swirl around the sink, pulling the red strands down the drain, without even noticing the girl at the sink next to her.
@Eonaria Kabukimono, sorry about the late reply. If it's not in the RP tab, I forget about it:)

XXXThe holidays are only a little over a week away… I shouldn’t keep my family waiting any longer… but then, what would I write? ‘Mother and Father, my sincerest apologies for the delayed response. I have decided to…’ I don’t even know what I’ve decided! Eonaria buried her face in her hands until she heard footsteps, the sound shifting tones as they- whoever it was- raced from the corridor to the tiled floor.

XXXAstonished, she looked up to see- Oh, you must be joking. There, at the next sink over, stood a girl she hadn’t seen for months: er... whatever her name was. I don’t think I even got her name last time…An infuriating Muggleborn she has met in the library. Eonaria blinked at the Ravenclaw, the cogs of her mind turning rapidly. With the new knowledge of her conversation with her brother, she wasn’t sure what to think of this encounter. Should she ignore her? Sneer at her? And.. was that blood swirling down the sink drain?

XXXThe brilliant crimson splashes contrasted greatly with the off-white porcelain, which didn’t make the prettiest of sights. I wonder what happened? Wait, what? No, you don’t wonder what happened, you walk away…! Cause you’re likely to never see her again, considering the number of students at Hogwarts… but still, seven years with this girl… Eonaria grimaced.

XXX“So, what happened there?” She raised an eyebrow, keeping her facial expression calm, cool, and blank. Time to put her acting skills to good use! Maybe I’ll finally start ‘acting like a pureblood,’ as my father said.

“So, what happened there?”

Avis tore her eyes away from the sink, toward the girl at the sink next to her. Her forehead crinkled a bit as she concentrated. Did she know this girl? She looked very familiar, but Avis couldn't place it. For some reason though, it felt as though she didn't like her. Strange. It was gnawing at her, this not knowing. She tried to tell herself she didn't care, but oh who was she kidding, it was driving her crazy. Avis hated when people knew something she didn't.

She pulled her attention back to her hand as the last drops of blood curled their way across the basin, smiling a bit. It was beautiful, really, the drops of life twisting their way around the off-white porcelain, flowing down and away to who knows where. Avis cupped her hands, splashing the water onto the small scarlet drops that still scattered the bowl, cleaning the sink of any spare blood. "Just a papercut. Nothing major."

She glanced up at the reflection in the mirror, to the girl's raised eyebrow and stoic face. Her uncaring face. Her familiar face. She frowned. She knew this girl, didn't she? She turned off the water and shook out her hand-away from the other girl-before turning to give the girl her full attention. She really didn't want to ask this girl who she was. She cast a longing sigh toward the door, so long to breakfast. "Have we met? I'm sorry, I seem to have forgotten your name." And everything else about you. Genuine confusion displayed itself clearly on her face, much to Avis' dismay.

XXXThe Ravenclaw looked at her, her forehead furrowing slightly. She washed away the remnants of the blood, sending it spiralling down the drain. Eonaria glanced at the sink. That's human DNA right there... going into the pipes and exiting into the lake. The Great Lake must be extremely unhygienic if people are washing away all this blood... She grimaced slightly.

XXXShe wasn't one to be afraid of blood, not at all, but she didn't like seeing it. Obviously. Blood is okay. Wait, that's an extremely weird thought. Never mind! Eonaria refocused her attention. The Ravenclaw dried her hands, casting a glance towards the door before asking if they'd met before.

XXXEonaria noticed her glance: Ah, I'm probably keeping her from.. whatever she's going off to do. Probably breakfast. Well, it's not like I'm stopping you! You're free to leave at any time, you know. She internally rolled her eyes, shifting her weight to one side before remembering that that is totally not good posture and straightening up again. The girl looked quite confused, so Eonaria sighed irritably and elaborated for her. Of course she forgot about me.

XXX"We met in the library in... the first week of school, I believe. Quite some time ago. I'll admit, that certainly didn't go down in a pleasant way, but..." She shrugged. "Oh well. My name is Eonaria Kabukimono." Should I even bother with asking for her name? ...I mean, not to be... too hostile, I suppose. "...and you?" Eonaria tilted her head.

"We met in the library in... the first week of school, I believe. Quite some time ago. I'll admit, that certainly didn't go down in a pleasant way, but..." It "didn't go down in a pleasant way?" What in holden's name was that supposed to mean? Had they had a debate? An argument? A fight? Well, presumably they hadn't had a fight, Avis was pretty sure that she would have remembered that.

Whatever had happened, Avis was confident that it was probably most likely definitely the other girl's fault. After all, Avis was perfect. Avis sniggered a bit at her internal sarcasm. She didn't really think she was perfect. Just mostly better than most other people at most things. And to be fair, she generally was, but only because Avis refused to participate in things that she was bad at. Games were only fun if you won. Or if you could blackmail Aunt Aina into paying you so she could continue winning. Avis grinned in recollection, before quickly returning to a nuetral face on remembering that oh right, there was a girl standing in front of her. A girl named Eonaria, it seemed.

Avis was probably supposed to still be mad at the girl for whatever had happened in September, but September was an awfully long time ago and Avis wasn't one for grudges anyway. So she took a step away form the sink and extended a (non-papercut) hand out to the girl. "Avis Marlong."

Same as everywhere else I would assume. Hogwarts is magical, but not that magical

XXXOddly, the other girl seemed to be going through a myriad of emotions. At first she looked suspicious, then amused, before finally taking a step away from the sink and introducing herself as Avis Marlong. I wonder what on earth was going through her mind? Just looking at Avis seemed to irk something inside Eonaria, so she should probably leave before she did something especially stupid. The quicker we get out of this dingy lavatory, the quicker I can go to the Great Hall to eat. Maybe I can sit with Raiame? But then she paused when Avis offered her hand for her to shake- except, while she did just wash her hands... so did Eonaria...

XXXWell, I'm sure this is about to make or break our relationship forever, but... Eonaria kept her arms safely by her side and simply gave her a sweet smile in return. "Hello, Avis. Are you having a nice day, other than your papercut?" The other girl was still standing there with her arm outstretched, left completely hanging. I might regret this later... but I'm actually pretty sure Raiame wouldn't shake a Muggleborn's hand either, so is this good...? Maybe?

XXXEonaria remained there, casually waiting for an answer despite her internal turmoil. Would Avis react aggressively or join her in pretending like nothing just happened? She had the uneasy feeling that it would be the former...

"Hello, Avis. Are you having a nice day, other than your papercut?" Avis eyed the girl warily. It was a polite sentence...but that was the thing. It was too polite. So was her smile. It was sweet, too sweet. Normal people weren't that nice, unless they wanted something. Normal people wouldn't ask strangers about their day while refusing to shake their hand. It wasn't as if Avis had cooties or something. She didn't even know what cooties were. Which, she reasoned, meant that she might have them, without knowing, but now her thoughts were getting off topic. She did not have cooties, there was no good reason for Eonaria to not be shaking her hand. Oh well. She silently snickered as she pulled her hand away. The opportunity was gone. Eonaria would never again have the chance to shake Avis Marlong's hand.

If Eonaria was an observant girl, she would notice that while Avis' posture and movement hadn't changed, she had stiffened, instincts when she didn't trust someone. Avis didn't like actors. She didn't like how they could fake emotions much too easily, and she didn't like how they could manipulate. Not theatre actors, but life actors. And Eonaria was acting; whether it was her sweet tone or her hesitant disgust was yet to be determined.

And while Avis didn't like actors, she felt a sense of pity. A sort of demeaning pity, after all, Avis didn't have that problem (that she knew of), but pity nonetheless. It was a hard life to live, the one of an actor, who can never truly be themselves but never be who they want either. So rather than pointing out the girl's obvious act, Avis just tilted her head and stared at Eonaria, as if she was staring into the girl's very soul. She wasn't, of course, in truth Avis was very bad at judging other people, but she had found that it made people very nervous when they thought you could judge them easily.

XXXAvis stood there for a moment longer before withdrawing her hand with an all-too-calm demeanor. She seemed to have taken at least a little bit of offense, judging by the way she tensed up slightly. Eonaria wondered what was going on in her head... Then, instead of retaliating or commenting on what Eonaria had just done, Avis simply tilted her head slightly and stared directly into her eyes.

XXXEonaria usually got nervous easily, but she was also a master of eye contact. Staring contests did help. Her days of being apologetic and practically stumbling to stay neutral or positive with everyone were over... er, kind of. So she matched the intense look, her eyes gazing directly into Avis's brown ones. "How delightful. So you should be running along to get something to eat, then." Her voice held a bored tone, not overly condescending or snarky, but simply careless and mild. Eonaria's facial expression evened out, displaying absolutely nothing save for a hint of disdain. Certainly, getting taught to act at home was a useful thing indeed. It was probably the one thing she was better at than Raiame. Oh, goodie.

XXXBut for some reason, Eonaria thought she could detect a hint of.. what was that...? Something hid behind the other girl's facade, something almost like... pity? Her temper flared slightly. Pity?? For her? This was ridiculous. There was no way that Avis was pitying her. But nevertheless, she maintained her composure. There was probably something she could toss out to provoke Avis, but her brain didn't seem to be working properly today. Blame Raiame, she was going to swat him when she found him.

"How delightful. So you should be running along to get something to eat, then." How delightful? Who even used that phrasing anymore? That was like something her grandmother would say. If her grandmother spoke English. Her grandfather, then. The point was, that it was much too proper for an eleven-year-old, in Avis' opinion. She had noticed that with Purebloods and some half-bloods, speaking as properly as if they were from the Victorian era. Which, Avis supposed, most of them were, as they didn't have access to the technology of now.

Pureblood probably all taught their kids how to act, considering Eonaria was either completely apathetic or a really good actor. Or better than Avis, in any case. The girl didn't even react to Avis' stare. Interesting. For pure enjoyment, she tried her hardest not to blink. Staring contests were always fun. If Eonaria were to accept the subtle challenge, she would almost certainly win. Avis had already been staring for a bit before beginning, and her eyes already felt dry. She managed to hold on a few more seconds before blinking and grinning a bit. Whether Eonaria realized it was a staring contest was unsure, but it had certainly been one nonetheless.

The distraction had made Avis forget about her pity for the Gryffindor, and she answered the girl, absentmindedly. "Probably." And yet her feet remained still, her gaze fixed on the girl.
