Potions Championship Information

Please note that this only uses the Errand system in an OOC capacity - IC this is a part of the Potions Championship, and has nothing to do with the usual errands.

Wandering around between the brewing stations, Méabh watched as the teams decided on and started brewing their second potions - either having finished their first one, or using longer periods of waiting to get a head start.

For anyone who had been to Hogwarts before, the Great Hall would be unrecognisable at the moment - instead of the four long tables with chatting students, it had been transformed from its usual layout into a gigantic potions lab. Along the sides of the Great Hall, stands for the audience had been erected, open for those students that wanted to cheer on their peers. Every student who wanted to participate or spectate had been given the day off from class. The center was sectioned into four areas, one for each of the three age groups of the competition, as well as a practice area for those wanting to practice their brewing skills without the pressure of participating in the competition itself. Each area had well-equipped brewing stations, with fireplaces, scales, mortar and pestle, cutting boards and knives, spoons of various sizes and materials, earmuffs and dragonhide gloves, and whatever else could possibly be required.

The podium that usually held the table for the Hogwarts staff was now instead filled with shelves upon shelves of ingredients, carefully categorised and lined up for easy access. Next to the ingredients were stacks of cauldrons of all standard sizes and materials, some with lids, most without. In short - anything required to brew any potion the students could think of would be present and accessible, they would need to bring nothing but their knowledge and their wands. (Indeed, using your own materials or equipment would be considered cheating.)

At the front, the final tasks for each age group were still on display:

1ST AND 2ND YEAR
Retrieve a basket of apples from a dense patch of forest - it is guarded by Red Caps.

3RD AND 4TH YEAR
Retrieve Ashwinder eggs from a wooden cabin. Be careful - the parents are still around.

5TH TO 7TH YEAR
Retrieve a specific item hidden in a patch of Swooping Evil cocoons. Attention - there might be additional complications.

The potion choices she'd seen so far ranged from predictable to clever to entirely unexpected - and Méabh was very curious to see what strategies they were part of.

Prerequisite: Must be indexed
Word Count Requirement: 400 words
Group type: Small group (up to 3 people) (You create your own group threads in the Great Hall.)
Reward: 2 House Points
OOC Date: 8 December - 28 December
IC Date: School day in the week before the Fall Ball (19 Oct) - please keep the exact date vague.

Important Information

• It is possible for iNPCs to participate, but please choose your iNPC or your PC to take part, not both. Indicate the participant in the sign-up form.
• The potion you choose to brew must be in the (PC's) trunk of at least one member of your group.
• Each step of the potion recipe must be assigned to one member of the team. Indicate this in the sign-up form - your RP should match this.
• Once the errand is completed, we will perform one moderation for each group to determine the success and effectiveness of the brew, based on the potion you chose, your RP, and your stats. Higher year potions are more difficult to brew!
• But be careful: You won't know the results until you try to use the potion in the final task.
• Don't worry - the errand reward does not depend on how well your character can brew potions, as long as they sincerely tried. (The championship result, however, does.)
• Please create your errand threads in the Great Hall.
• You can participate in either of the errands without participating in the final task, there is a sort of "practice" section of the area.
• If you want to participate in the final task, make sure that all your team members are in the same age group (1-2nd years, 3-4th years, 5-7th years). This group must be the same for each of the three parts of the Championship. If you do not want to participate in the final task, you can team up with anyone you want.
