"Got it, sir." she replied to her upperclassman's words. The fourteen year old had to hold in a snicker when she was reminded to not shame the elderly. Sparks of different colors soon filled her field of vision as the duel began.

"Oh damn..." The girl muttered as everything around her was pretty much chaos. She was probably one of the people who got out mostly unscathed besides the 4th year from the badger's side. Ara looked over to Hanako, the 6th year. 'Oh...Grandpa's got it bad.' She thought. "You good gramps?" It wasn't teasing per say, the Slytherin girl got the habit from earlier. But she was genuinely concerned. Now looking over to Evethisawe's side, her teammate was now dancing. Their dancing wasn't bad but it wasn't good either, but who was she to judge?

The young Villa noticed the Ravenclaw moderator having the time of her life. 'Well at least someone's having fun...' she thought sarcastically.

The poor sixth year was going through it. How old were sixth years again? Sixteen, seventeen? Alright, fine, to fourteen-year old Mahl that seemed like centuries away, but logically of course it was only a couple of years. Unfortunately for him though, some people seemed intent on reminding Tone he was a "grandpa". And he also happened to be getting bombarded with spells, the poor guy.

Not that Mahlioz was doing all that much better. She unfortunately was being forced to dance, again. Gods, Tarantallegra had to be one of their least favorite spells; this was not only exhausting but also way too embarrassing. Thankfully, their own spell had hit the Hufflepuff boy before (who, now that they noticed, was quite terrifying - had that been two spells at once??), and Villa's had as well, rather impressively, actually. And whatever spell Tone had sent flying was very impressive as well. They weren't doing too terribly.

Their moderator was a second year girl Mahlioz had already had in a duel before, and she seemed to be enjoying herself quite a bit. Not only had she joined in on teasing Tone, but she was definitely taking joy from their fighting. Mahlioz wasn't sure what to think of that, exactly. They didn't like judging people, but wasn't that a bit much? It felt unprofessional, almost distracting.

Well, it didn't matter what she thought, because the duel would continue anyway. She set her judgements aside and got ready for another round of spells. Hopefully this time they wouldn't be dancing stupidly again.

Hanako rolled his eyes whenever he was addressed as grandpa. What was he even doing here, really? The other seniors must be laughing at him now. Or worse- ignored completely. At the very least, he was happy the kids were actually… pretty impressive. On most stages, having crackers jinx on both sides were a huge annoyance. But he couldn’t help but like being backed up in a corner. He came to the realisation that despite their personalities (especially that timid looking boy), these hufflepuffs had more bite in them.

“ Worrying about me that much, kid?” He retorted back to Ara with a smirk. If she wanted to play the teasing game, she picked the wrong person to tease. “So sweet, caring about me already so early in the duels.”

Emma didn't know what the grandpa comments were about but she froze slightly, her mind filling with thoughts of her own grandfather. Tears started to gather, but she pushed them back. This wasn't the time or place. Maybe that was what gave her the focus to put her spell in motion, making the other side all take damage. Whatever it was, she hoped it would continue.

Shifting from side to side, she waited for the next round to start, the spells ready to fly once more. Thankfully this round she hadn't been hit but her poor teammates had taken some damage. She knew they had this. They just needed to keep going.

And with that, the match began, but EmmaLee had completely forgotten one thing: the ever-increasingly popular cracker jinx. It was a spell that had the potential to pack a powerful punch, and normally the tiny little explosions all over the piste didn't bother EmmaLee in the slightest. It was just another spell in a flurry of spells in the middle of a duel.

This time though, as the mostly harmless fireworks exploded directly over her head, she found herself choking on a scream and swallowing it down like undigested lunch. She was yanked back, away from the sport, to the exploding carriages, falling to the ground, scrambling up off of scraped knees, and running after Miles in the very real chaos to find Stephen on the ground as shrapnel flew through the air around them.

As fast as she crashed into the memory, she was thrust back to the present by the sparks alighting her skin and... blood?... when did the cracker jinx make you bleed? She looked in the direction of the Slytherin team, brain still clinging to the memory of Hogsmeade burning as sparks and other spells erupted on their side, then back to her own team, to see Axyen bleeding as well from their personal rain of fire.

The only good thing to hold on to in the moment was the fact that EmmaLee had apparently hit her target before losing her grip, though she could hardly remember slinging the dancing feet spell at Mahlioz as she had intended to do. Well, also that apparently Emma was fine.

As sad as she was that Axyen was looking so rough, EmmaLee was glad to not be the first target for once. At least her training had done something worthwhile in making her look stronger at least, despite her waned skin and sunken eyes. Not that she couldn't go down in the next round or two anyway.

She tried to take a few calming breaths in the seconds before the next flurry of spells, the next inevitable cracker jinx or other magical explosion. With a shaky determination, she readied her wand for the next spell. There was no way she was going to be useless here, or ever again.

Despite the chaos of the previous round, Jessamine thought that the teams looked rather even. Axyen was a bit wobbly, but Emma made up for that by being unscathed. On the opposite side, all three snakes seemed to be the same level of hurt. The Ravenclaw was prepared for this to be a long and hard-fought strategic battle between both teams. How wrong she was.

The snakes continued matching with their pinpoint accuracy. Ara and Mahlioz worked in unison, sending their deadly Knockback combo at EmmaLee this time. The badger, with some foresight, attempted to dodge both and she came very close to doing just that. Unfortunately, the Slytherin duo were just too in sync, catching the witch and sending her stumbling backwards. Hanako, unperturbed by the snot running out of his nose and the unsettled feeling of his tummy, produced another set of razor sharp crackers. This time he caught all three of the badgers in its radius, afflicting all of them with open wounds.

On the badgers’ side, Axyen, in hopes of having the last word, tried casting an Incendio spell at Mahlioz, but the wizard would be too bogged down by the effects of Hanako’s previous crackers, causing him to fail his cast. As for the sixth year’s current collection of crackers, it was enough to send Axyen to the piste. Emma had less luck with her second Cracker Jinx. The unstable poppers landed right at the feet of Ara, crackling and bursting around her, but Hanako and Mahlioz, who was finally finished with their line dance, were easily able to avoid being hit. EmmaLee aimed to make Ara laugh her way to a knockout but the spell blew up in the badger’s face, causing her to suffer just that fate. EmmaLee’s own power was enough to knock herself unconscious.

“Stooop!” Jessamine yelled with the inflection of an opera singer. She ran to the badgers’ side of the stage, inspecting Axyen and EmmaLee for signs of movement. When there were none, she waved over the mediwizards. As the professionals worked to stabilize and remove the bodies from the stage, Jessamine regarded the others who were still upright. “You guys are like… candy to a moderator. Or well, candy to me.” When the EmmaLee and Axyen had been taken care of, the Ravenclaw waved at the cots being transported out of the room and spoke with an exaggerated sigh, “We wish them well.” She returned to her spot. “CONTINUE.”

Why was it that every single duel, Mahlioz was left blinking in confusion because everything had gone so fast? An insane amount of things had just happened in very little time, and she had to take a few moments to process. Because two people were unconscious. Sure, one of the two (that Dragonclaw boy) was bound to be, because he hadn't been looking great last round already. But LeDames? How on earth they had had this much luck was beyond Mahlioz.

Tone's spell, again, was incredible, but even more incredible was the Slytherin team's dodging. Only Villa got hurt, and it didn't seem like it was even that much. The Hufflepuff team was much worse for wear.

How had this happened? Could Mahlioz attribute it to skill, or the fact that they'd been practicing religiously for the past almost two months? Or was it just plain luck? They had no idea, but hopefully it would continue. That had been a crazy round.

“ Gchk..” To be honest, he wasn’t paying much attention to his targets. Covering his nose with one hand and struggling to hold his wand in the other. Slightly hunched as he felt the nausea almost taking over. God, he hated this spell. But they must’ve done well enough. By some miracle, he dodged a few crackers jinx. Him and miss Emma seem to take their roles as the older ones on their team to make full use of the crackers jinx. Cept this round, Hanako was the better aimer.

Enough to get that Dragonclaw kid out, at least. Being taken out of the duel by round 2 was a pain. Hanako had his fair share of fast defeats. He would’ve felt more pride if Dragonclaw was around the same age. Now he just felt like he was bullying him. At least the other 2 kids on his team seemed useful. "Not bad, kids" he couldnt help but chuckle a little, giving them a brief sideways glance. They were actually way better at this than when Hanako was their age. Would he tell them that? Absolutely not.

But then wait…that should’ve just been it. Their main strategy was to merely get one kid out and hope for the best. Looking back at the stage however, it was only Emma standing. What happened to the other Emma that sassed him earlier? They couldn’t have hurt her to that extent, right? She was still standing just a second ago? Then it could have only been her own spell. That sucks. Hanako had yet suffered from a ko from his own spell. But oh well… wounds can heal. Pride, not so much.

He sighed, seeing the last hufflepuff on stage. His voice slightly tense with the curse still flooding through him. “ Forfeit isn’t that bad you know” he shrugged, “ I’ve done it - a couple of times. No biggie. Saves me from wasting time in the wing”.

Who knows. He's been in similar situations like this. One common thing he did always find among Hufflepuffs is how determined they are till the end.

As the old man smirked and called her sweet for worrying about him, the young Villa rolled her eyes. “No… not really. I'm worried you'll break your back into another dimension. But thanks for seeing it that way, Gramps. " she replied, shrugging.

The next round turned in their favour. 2 people from the badger’s team were gone. ‘So another 3 v 1 situation?’ she thought, remembering her previous duel. The current round was quite chaotic like the last. 2 cracker jinxes flew, cast by the 2 oldest among the bunch of kids. The badger’s cracker jinx only hit one person from the vipers which was Ara. ‘Why me…’ While Grandpa’s cracker jinx hit all of ‘em, LeDames got most of the hit though that didn’t stop Dragonclaw from passing out after the fail with his incendio duo. Though LeDames could’ve survived the 3 spells directed to her, she still passed out after fumbling her own spell.

While the moderator gave a short speech after the mediwizards picked up the 2 unconscious ones about how they’d wish them well, the blue-haired girl couldn’t help but give a side comment. ‘I’ll wish them well… in hell’ She may or may not have thought the last part out loud.

Ara looked over to her senior, (aka “grandpa” or “gramps” as she called him) seeing as he covered his nose to prevent the effects of a spell from the previous round from coming out as he still held his wand with the other hand (the effects being snot). “Wash your hands after this, gramps.” she said. Forgot to mention that Grandpa chuckled a bit after a short “Not bad, kids”. Ara shrugged at the slight compliment. The old man then tried convincing the last badger standing to forfeit. The younger girl side-eyed him while he did so.
