Another academic year, another duel. Jessamine was much too young to be saying anything of the sort, but Hogwarts had brought on a heavy monotony since she’d arrived last month. Even in preparation for her second time as a match referee, Jessamine felt herself simply moving through the motions without much care for what was to transpire. And then she walked into the duelling club before the first set of matches were scheduled to start and absolute exhilaration filled up her entire body, down to even her pinky toe. The crowd, the house spirit, the cheers and jeers. Duelling was back, baby. And so was she.
A completely different person from the Jessamine that woke up that morning, the Ravenclaw hopped right onto the piste and beckoned the duellists of Match Four forward. Two faces were immediately familiar to her. Mahlioz and Ara were some of the youngest in the match, but Jessamine recalled their top-tier spellcasting from the first duel that she refereed. She hoped that the two would continue to give her an exciting duel to watch. On the opposite side were upperclassmen that Jessamine hadn’t paid attention to at all, but EmmaLee and Axyen looked strong with Emma as their stable center. The Ravenclaw did recall them fighting together in the last stage, so their chemistry was going to be delicious to watch.
And lastly… oh that man was way too old to be here. Alas, such was the unpredictability of duelling matchups. Mahlioz and Ara had the advantage of being paired together last stage as well, so Jessamine wondered how well this Hanako fellow could fit in. But she couldn’t deny the thrill of having a sixth year in the frey. Just what greatness was she going to witness today?
“Welcome back to the only good thing at Hogwarts!” Jessamine bellowed once the duellists had taked their spots. “Ready to see your classmates throw down? I am! Now let’s give them some incentive to make this exciting.” She slapped on her thighs to create a drumming effect. “In that corner,” she pointed arbitrarily, “are the Slytherins – Mahlioz, Ara, and Hanako!” After pausing for the snake fans to do their part, Jessamine pointed off in another direction. “And over there are the Hufflepuffs – Emma, Axyen, and EmmaLee!” She riled up the crowd some more with fist pumping and then turned to the six on the piste. “Alright grandpa and grandkids, you’ve all been doing this for a hot second, so you know the rules. Don’t break ‘em and if you die, at least make it dramatic… LET’S START!”

Slytherin vs Hufflepuff: Match 4
Today was finally the day, Axyen had been waiting for the day that this duel would begin. This time, when he made his entrance he'd make sure to appear much more confident. Axyen had his Pygmy Puff, Arnold, placed to sleep but just in case he did have his food bowl and water bowl prepared so basically when Axyen gets back his Pygmy Puff should be waking up or still asleep. Axyen recalled his last duel, he failed to win for Hufflepuff, but it was okay, because this time he was stronger, he wouldn't let a couple of defeats stamp him out, this time he was going to win or so he'd hope. He just couldn't lose this time, he has gotten better, he even has a new wand that works with him better, this would surely help make sure that his team would be able to win alongside with him. Axyen was getting nervous now, the closer he got to the dueling stage, the more the nerves seemed to reach him but that wouldn't stop him, it hasn't before, why would it now? Axyen kept taking deep breaths, even though it was two years ago now, he could recall his first Charms lesson, whenever these duels were about to begin, Axyen liked to think about the lesson because it would then remind of him of the basics. 'Clear wand movement, properly pronounce incantations, and having a clear mind.' Axyen mentally told himself, that last bit was probably going to be the toughest bit, but he was able to cast spells in the past so he'd be able to do it here as well. He couldn't say how well he was going to do, but he would certainly try to do his best; as he has successfully done before, he won't back down until the very end. Axyen stepped onto the stage. He knew he was going against Ravenclaw, but he didn't know who he was exactly going up against. The last thing Axyen expected to see was a much older student who was a sixth year, a... sixth year. 'How am I supposed to compete with that?' Axyen wondered to himself, the crowd was making him nervous, but Axyen knew not to look at them for even a moment. He wouldn't let the sixth year discourage him either, they could still somehow win, Axyen was sure of it. He would just need to work with everything he had, he looked over to his teammates momentarily and then back at his opponents. Axyen didn't know how tough this match was going to be, but he imagined that there was very little room for errors or mess ups.
Axyen has short straight messy brown hair, which was usually messy and today was no different. Besides, he was probably about to be moving around a lot anyways. He had deep brown eyes and he wore the Hufflepuff uniform which contains: robes with a Hufflepuff Crest pinned to the right side of his robes, a gray shirt underneath with three yellow lines in the shape of a 'V' vertically below or on top of each other near the top of his shirt and black jeans. Somehow, Axyen suddenly felt ready, the nerves just literally flew away from him and now the only thing he needed to ever worry about was focusing on the battle. Axyen could hear the crowd going away, not in a literal sense, but he was becoming more focused on the dueling arena. This was intense, but Axyen just needed to believe in himself and work hard to win. Axyen heard the word 'START' and all of a sudden, everything sort of just played for him.
Who knows what he would do? He was thinking of practically everything, his past duels. Axyen looked somewhat nervous here, the nerves of each duel still got to him and he hadn't quite gotten used to the feeling of just knowing that everybody was watching you, wanting to see what you'd do and how successful it was. Axyen became painfully aware that some of his housemates were here, he couldn't fail them. That'd just be terrible. Axyen had to think brighter and with more confidence; however, despite knowing how he should be thinking, he still felt nervous. He kept recalling the past duels and he remembered them at an eerie level. He didn't have the best memory, he struggled with Potions and a History of Magic, especially a History of Magic - so why could he remember his duels in extreme detail out of nowhere? Axyen had been in a duel with both EmmaLee and Emma before, so he felt a bit more better opposed to dueling with someone he didn't know at all. That's what Axyen knew and that's what he told himself! He can't let himself be mentally defeated before the match even begun.
"A-alright..! Let's do...do this!"
Axyen silently said to himself, it was either he was incredibly cold right now and somehow the robes just were failing at protecting him from the cool air that he was imagining or he became very aware of the crowd. Axyen shook his head and cleared his mind. He was going to try and ignore the fact that he might end up going to the Hospital Wing for this... Maybe not, it depends on how well Axyen does and he'd hate to return to Arnold injured and so Axyen focused up! Time to go for the win!InformationReducioStatsReducioStamina-6

Wand Maker (Phoenix Feather Core):
• 10% chance that a random spell known by the caster will be cast in addition to the spell that they have already cast. The spell will target the same target the caster had attacked/aided with a spell that round. If the spell cast had no target, then a target is assigned randomly with no consideration of friend or foe. The second spell still has to go through the normal targeting mechanics, it would not be an automatic hit or anything. This effect will not take place if the wand is not drawn.

Mahlioz had been waiting for this day for a very long time. There were only two things they could do that shut their thoughts off, if only for a few moments. Those were violin and duelling, and unfortunately, she'd only been able to do one of the two over the summer. Sinc getting back to Hogwarts, though, she had practiced so much her wand had to be starting to hate her. They had been waiting for this day, and it was finally here.
They didn't know any of their Hufflepuff opponents. Her teammates were Ara Villa, who she'd fought with before, and... a sixth year? Named Hanako Tone. Mahlioz had fought with and against older years before, but never a sixth year - that was like fighting with the bird boy, or Rose. The Slytherin couldn't help but feel bad for the guy, having to fight against a bunch of third and fourth years. But, well. At least they had an advantage.
The game was about to start. She was ready for this. "Good luck," they said, to no one in particular. Let the duel begin!

October 25, 2024 (23:10)Yep, it was her third ever duel since she started as a duelist and her first duel as a third year. Try saying that 3 times. The young Villa stepped onto the piste with her 2 other teammates, Mahlioz Evethisawe and Hanako Tone. Ara found it unusual that Hanako, a 6th year student, was in this match but brushed it off just as she started to wonder. ‘Eh who cares, it’s a free advantage.’ she thought. Was it luck? Probably. Was it unfair? Probably. Did she care? No.
"Morning, Evethisawe “ she greeted.
She’d been teammates with Evethisawe since her first duel so she was quite pleased that they were going to be teammates again. But then again, Hanako was a 6th year student so how on earth did he get into a 3rd and 4th year game?
Ara snickered a bit when she heard the moderator, who actually moderated her last game as well, address her upperclassman as “grandpa”. “Let’s get this thing started, grandpa and fellow grandkid,” she said flatly though she thought it was quite amusing.RP Word Count: 179/50

This year Emma finally felt confident enough that she knew enough, could do enough damage that she wasn't a handicap to her team. Although there was always the possibility of distractions. Sometimes with spells flying, thunder and lightning, teammates on fire, it could all become a bit too much to focus. But Emma had done this for several years now. And she had been in the wizarding world and had a better idea of what to expect. But that was just her trying to distract herself while she waited for the duel to start.
Sighing, she pulled her wand out, bouncing it in her palm before grasping it tightly. Nodding at her teammates, she pulled in a deep breath, waiting for the signal to start.

It was evidently a lose - lose situation for him. At first he was worried, being teamed up with a bunch of.. Kids. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he was also fighting kids. Anyone could tell he wasn’t exactly pleased since he stepped onto the duelling piste. Should he be glad he was still around the same height as his teammates? Kids are so tall these days…
He knew of his teammates existence at least. Though they usually practise separately, considering the vast age difference. But he noticed tidbits about them. Example, Villa. Looking like she hasnt had a restful sleep since she came out of the womb. Hanako would have stated he could relate somewhat. Sleep didnt come easy to him as a kid either. But there was just something… off about Villa. Being older (and superior in every other way), didnt make it any easier to stand near to her. But perhaps she was a decent kid.
And then she called him grandpa and ruined whatever chances she had of making him like her. He rolled his eyes at the dead-panned face girl and let out a scoff. “ Ha ha. Funny. Always the jokester, Villa.”
Not to mention how she didn’t greet him as she did to Evethisawe. BRATS. BOTH OF THEM.
Well.. perhaps Evethisawe was less of a brat. He could appreciate the way she seemed pretty careful with spells during practice. For a kid. And was it just him or… did Ara seem more bearable around with Evethisawe around? Just his imagination? Maybe. Hanako hasn’t looked that deep into duels that didn’t involve him. Especially if Villa and Evethisawe were in the lower year duels last year. Gosh, he didnt even remembered if they had won. Were they any good? He’ll find out, he supposed.
“ Puff kids” Hanako called out a little before the duel actually started. “ I don’t say this often, - at least not sincerely- but I honestly do hope with all my heart, that none of you give me a boring round. K? K”. He shrugged, not really caring if he sounded arrogant. If that’s what it takes to make the puffs take this extra seriously, then he didnt mind being seen as such.
And he felt like at least one of those hufflepuffs wouldnt think its anything out of the ordinary. He had met LeDame quite a while back. Granted, the interaction was way too short and too boring for him to remember details about her. All he knew was that she was Bailey Glades friend, and she was in the way of his date with Glade. And that she had longer hair before. He wondered if she remembered him..

The trill of excitement that was usually coursing through EmmaLee's veins as she stepped onto the piste was as lacking as a lot of the other things that she enjoyed lately. She had found her joy in music again, but dueling was proving a hard friend to welcome back after the events of the last few months.
What use was dueling when in the real emergency she had been able to do nothing to save her best friend, or any of her other friends for that matter, aside from sit there and hope that he would open his eyes, while everyone around her was at least somewhat useful.
It felt like a child's game, dueling, but she would not let her team down by putting in any less effort than she usually did.
She had spent a lot of time in the library since all the international students went home studying her textbooks for any of the actually useful spells As determined as she was before, she was now four fold more determined to never feel that helpless again.
As she pulled her mind back into the matched, she saw Axyen at one moment looking more confident than usual, and then shaking like a leaf again. She couldn't help but put a, hopefully, comforting hand on his arm.
"We've got this." She said, offering an encouraging smile. "Even if we don't win again, we know we can give them a good fight." As she said this, she turned to Emma as well, also giving the older girl a determined nod. No matter how she felt about dueling right now, she knew the three of them were a good team.
She readied her ivory wand as examined her opponents. She hadn't had much interactions with the other two, though she remembered them from class and they were solid students as she remembered, but..... she raised a pale eyebrow curiously.... why was Hanako here?
She remembered him from last ball and her apprehension at leaving Bailey on his hands, but their night seemed to have turned out alright if what she'd seen of Bailey later was any indication.
She still didn't like the look of his gib (she smirked at the Stephen-esque expression that came to mind), though, especially after he insinuated that their dual might be boring. If he thought it was going to be so boring, why was he in a duel with 'kids' three years younger than him?
"I think a grandpa would have the wisdom to pick on people his own age and skill, unless that's exactly why you're here, Hanako. Are you sure you aren't a kid like us?" The taunt shocked EmmaLee as the words tumbled out of her mouth unfiltered. She was usually a "turn the other cheek and prove yourself with actions" kind of person.
Maybe the lack of sleep had finally caught up with her filter.... maybe she was just as bored at the prospect of this duel as Hanako.....

“C’mon guys, we shouldn’t be shaming the elderly,” Jessamine laughed, elated that two of her duellists were picking on the sixth year. “And Gramps, I like that attitude. No boring rounds, mkay?” She clasped her hands together as if she were praying to the six upperclassmen standing in front of her.
Ask and ye shall receive. After the duellists cast their first spell, only one of them stood untouched. The strong center of the badgers did the most to ensure that her teammates came onto the piste with the maximum endurance they had, but the fourth year’s spellcasting abilities weren’t too shabby either. Waving her wand, the badger conjured silver crackers that hovered in the air for a split second before popping one after the other with the sound of cannon blasts. All three snakes were caught in the radius of the explosions. Hanako would catch the brunt of the effects while Ara and Mahlioz took slight damage on their arms.
Returning the favor, Hanako aimed his crackers at EmmaLee who could not avoid his targeting, and Axyen also felt some popping on his thigh even though he wasn’t standing as close to the crackers as EmmaLee. Emma was quite lucky to avoid the radius effects of Hanako’s crackers as EmmaLee and Axyen, when inspecting their skin, would find that the cracker explosions had littered their targeted areas in tiny cuts. Seeing a very light blood spotting on them, Jessamine began to understand the power of a sixth year.
Axyen would find himself the target of the other two snakes. Ara and Mahlioz aimed classic Knockback Jinxes at him and while both casts took the badger down a peg, it was Ara’s that stood out, catching Axyen squarely in his chest. Jessamine wondered if the girl practiced sharpshooting in her free time.
Axyen, already wobbling from being hit thrice, matched the energy of the snakes by sending a Knockback Jinx of his own towards Hanako. The badger looked like he was going to collapse at any second, but his magic packed a punch that Hanako could surely feel as it slapped him across the face. Oh. No, that wasn’t the Knockback Jinx. Axyen aimed that at Hanako’s shoulder. It seemed that the Phoenix Feather core of Axyen’s wand had something to say. It sung a tune to the incantation for the Curse of the Bogies which flew straight towards Hanako as well. From the second the spell touched him, the snake could feel a cloudy congestion take over his nose and head. His stomach would start churning, threatening to empty its contents.
Last to cast was EmmaLee who targeted Mahlioz with a respectable Tarantallegra. The snake would start kicking about after being hit in the torso, their legs moving in a country-style line dance.
Jessamine squealed at the outcome of the events that transpired before her, clapping energetically. Five of the six had been hit hard and the Ravenclaw was suddenly having the time of her life. She had to stop herself from walking over to Mahlioz and joining in on the performance. “That’s what I’m talking about! KEEP IT COMING!”

Slytherin vs Hufflepuff: Match 4
Axyen gave EmmaLee a 'thank you' nod, if they couldn't win, then give these Slytherins a tough duel, sounds like a plan. Axyen would feel somewhat intimidated by the sixth year asking for a non-boring duel, well, he'd sure give it his all now. The moment the duel began, Axyen's mind didn't run through the possibilities of what he was going to do-it was a sprint. Axyen immediately attempted to clear his mind so that they were void of distracting thoughts with incredibly little success, nevertheless, he was still able still able to focus up on the spell he wanted to cast. 'Flipendo, aim at the oldest one. Remember the wand movement as well, it will all be critical!' Axyen reminded himself, there he was ready to cast and to think.
Axyen would move his wand in a swift downwards curved motion, which would soon be followed up by an upwards motion and then the small hook at the end. This was from Defense Against the Dark Arts. "Flipendo!" Axyen said with a firm tone, he focused on his aim and trying to hit the sixth year student. It was very possible.
A blue light flashed from Axyen's wand as the spell was sent outwards towards Hanako, Axyen would find that spell had hit its intended target. The spell seemed to hurt a lot more than usual, so Axyen's spell casting had gotten better - that was good, his spells were a lot more stronger. He winced a bit, seriously, that had to hurt and Axyen felt a bit bad for it, but the duel was not over yet, all of that could be saved for the end of the duel! A second blast came from his wand which greatly confused Axyen as he had not said a second incantation or made any additional wand movements thus far, but his Phoenix Feather Core wand chose to cast Mucus ad Nauseam to Axyen's great surprise, it was a pleasant one too, a bigger chance at winning this duel. Axyen kept the wand pointed towards Hanako and the spell would hit Hanako's shoulder.
If Axyen wasn't sorry for how unpleasant Flipendo must've been, he was most definitely sorry for Mucus ad Nauseam. He knew nothing about the spell was nice and he was probably the luckiest badger to not have experienced such a thing however, Axyen would soon have to feel sorry for himself as he
was hit from that one spell he didn't really know the name of but he has seen a good amount of times. Axyen flinched in pain and almost instinctively went to grab his thigh where it felt like blood was leaking out from tiny cuts.
'No! Maintain your posture, don't look at the wound, just try and stay focused.' Axyen thought to himself maintaining what he deemed a good posture and his now determined expression, he knew himself it was possible to win, he just needed to do this, for Hufflepuff!
Axyen was focused, but not focused enough as he would feel himself get flipped backwards and land onto the ground. Axyen gasped from the pain, but nobody said he could take a break as the badger would once again get flipped backwards onto the ground to find himself in even more pain. Axyen really had to fight back a bit of tears from the pain. He found it rather hard to walk, well more hard to walk than usual at the very least. His head also felt clouded from that one spell, he still didn't know the name of it quite yet but he found the thought of even casting a spell to be more difficult than usual.
Axyen had to remain focused and he also needed to think about the situation here, he looked over to his older teammate Emma, she seemed to be doing perfectly fine as she was untouched. EmmaLee on the other hand was hit by that same spell that hit Axyen, but she seemed to be doing much better than Axyen himself. Axyen studied the other team, Hanako was affected by the spell that Axyen was hit by, so did the other snakes, Axyen of course saw this from Emma while he was casting Flipendo at Hanako. Mahlioz was busy dancing, Axyen could easily make the assumption that EmmaLee was responsible for that.
Axyen didn't know who was really winning, but it was very safe to say that this duel was very far from being boring. Axyen was in a good bit of pain but he wouldn't give up here, not at all. He had to go back to quick thinking and decide what he wanted to do next; he refused to back down even though that pain was awful, his past failures in dueling done worse to him.InformationReducioStatsReducioStamina-6

Prodigal Defense Against the Dark Arts Learner - Able to learn Defense Against the Dark Arts 1 year ahead of their actual school year. You may only choose a spell taught in DADA classes. At end game they learn 1 restricted spell. This can also serve as an alternative means to learning spells besides earning them through DADA class.
• In duels the wand only chooses from the list of official duelling spells.
• +2 accuracy to spells cast.
