@Colin McCoire | @Mathias Pride | @Winnie Harper | @Jack Burnett | MENTIONINGThe warmth of Mey‘s voice let a comfortable shudder of safeness run down Jun‘s back. Her cousin, similar to her, was dressed in a woman’s suit without a jacket, but a tie and a beret. The shiny black shoes Mey had opted for fit right into the look and a satchel was hanging over her shoulder. Jun returned her smile, the smooth Japanese Good Evening flowing through the air to her ears like the sound of a piano. Mey brought a sense of home to Jun like nothing and no one else here at Hogwarts could.
Yet, the young girl could still feel the slightest bit of coldness, an uncomfortable sensation slithering between them like a poisonous snake. It was not Mey‘s fault. Much more, it was the guilty feeling that Jun carried within herself each day, what she had caused her cousin to experience and what caused them both to now live with this curse. What made her loose her father.
Sucking in a breath, her gaze redirected to Mey, from the great hall. The smile on her face had faded, resulting into a slight expression of concern on Jun‘s face. She looked around, tracing after her cousins gaze but landing no where specifically. Her heart ached slightly, sinking into her stomach from words unspoken and feelings unfelt. „Daijōbu desu ka Are you okay?“ Jun whispered, taking her best friend’s hand out of simple reflex. It was like muscle memory, something that wasn’t forgotten despite a year of not seeing each other.
Out of sheer desperation, Jun asked whether they should move in further, unsure what else to do. She hated how it felt now, how something that would have been normal a year ago, was not normal anymore. Jun felt held back by her own fear, by the memories that plaqued her in every woken and unconscious moment. Mey finally answered and though she did not seem to have regained her form entirely, Jun now gently let go of her cousins hand and followed her steps, an aching sensation sitting in her chest that made it harder to breathe.
Almost crashing into her best friend, as the young Ravenclaw had expected her to walk further, she stopped in her tracks and looked up from her own two shoes. „What-“ Jun started but soon spotted what had caused Meyra to stop. A horrible sight of pink turned into a paining thorn in her eye, watching what was happening alongside Mey. „What a terrible choice of attire.. and I was worried about not looking elegant enough.“ Jun whispered back to her friend and suppressed a laugh, feeling bad for the pretty girl he was approaching. „Rosa can be lovely but that is a bit much..“ She was about to agree with Mey when she noticed a storm in form of a girl stumbling closer out of the corner of her eye.
The brunette did not notice fast enough as it seemed, the girl bumping right into Meyra with closed eyes. „Would you stop walking around with your eyes closed?“ Jun said harshly after making sure the girl didn’t hurt her best friend. Mey, to Jun’s disapproval, was much nicer about the incident and even asked whether everything was okay. She sent the girl that bumped into her favorite person a death glare and huffed. „She can be glad she didn’t hurt you.“ The Ravenclaw muttered under her breath, the protectiveness she felt for her cousin bubbling up. She didn’t even notice any other person involved, much less what was going on around them until Mey spoke again.
Turning, a public display of affection played before her eyes and Jun wondered what was wrong with Hogwarts that in mere minutes of an event, so much was already happening. Never before had she been at an event with such weirdly behaving participants. In disbelief, she watched the girl that looked slightly faint and a red fox coming up to the.. happy? couple. What in Merlin’s name was going on and why was there a wild animal in the middle of the school.
With a sigh of disbelief she averted her gaze back to Mey and her question, shaking away the weird feeling of the events prior and deciding to try and join her cousin in a bit of carefreeness this night. She was so distracted that the sudden joining of another person almost made her flinch. „Oh, hello.“ She returned out of politeness, unsure where she had seen her before. Something in common? The Ravenclaw tried not to look too dumbfounded, that look did not fit her. It wasn’t until she saw the flash of bite marks that Jun realized.
A nervous laugh escaped her and the urge to back away screamed in her. She did not want anyone but Mey to know about her condition, why did this particular third year have to remember them? Heart racing, she searched for Mey‘s calming eyes and swallowed hard. „I guess the more the merrier.“ The young girl than forced herself to say and turned around.
Following behind her Gryffindor, Jun tried to smile again, even with the sight of weird looking food and the thought of people she didn’t know, knowing of her condition. Mey spoke again and Jun made an effort to answer, to calm her nerves and distract herself. „I think so? Looks like what I‘d imagine prisoners are served though.. eugh…“ she muttered the last part under her breath, careful to let no one hear. „Please don’t eat that,“ she then followed, sending her cousin a pleading look.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ "Mystery is as mystery does... Whatever is whatever was..."⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆Siobhan was quite taken aback when Uri hugged her but she attempted to return it nonetheless- until the poor boy began his coughing fit and chugged his electric orange drink in order to calm himself. She held her tea just out of reach, so as to protect the teacup she had and prevent it from being destroyed. When he had recovered she looked at his face which was proudly displaying a wide smile. It felt good to see him, or well at least someone else that she knew.
It didn't dawn on her that he had greeted he with a butchered version of her name and she looked at him with quite the raised eyebrow over her teacup.
"Siobby? To whom are you referring to Uri?" She asked as she sipped her tea and watched as he wiped cracker off of his face. He seemed to be quite excited that she was present as he complimented her dress and the bees in her hair with an absolutely horrific bee pun which she struggled to not cringe at when it left his mouth. Instead she offered a sympathetic snicker as she let one of the bees land on her finger.
"Aren't they wonderful? I had a professor help me wih the enchanting... Though I do feel quite under dressed... No one else here seems to have embraced the groovy feeling of the 60's." Siobhan said looking around as she took another sip of her drink and let the bee float back to her hair. "Thank you for the compliment on my dress however." She said with a happy smile. Though her dress didn't match the 1920's mafioso vibes that Uri was sporting, she did think he matched the theme better than she did. He looked like a main character that she would read about in those absolutely titillating thrillers she loved to peruse in her off time. Quite dashing in her opinion...
She looked around at where they were stood, closer to the table of food. It amused her- they had found themselves in the same spot for the last ball and it only brought back the memories of how only a few short months ago- she had roughly socked him in the nose and nearly broken it. Siobhan wasn't looking to cause a repeat of the incident. She wasn't totally sure he had forgiven her anyhow.
"Were you considering joining one of the games? I was thinking about participating in the Whispers in the Dark game. I quite love mysteries since it allows me to work in my head and compare my observations with other people." Siobhan mused as she poured another drop of lavender syrup in her tea. She would need to replenish her cup in a few moments but she wasn't quite ready to bid adieu to Uri. She wondered if he was interested in joining in the games or if he was just content to wander around the ball. She wasn't a dancer but she wouldn't say no to a dance.
But her mind started to supply an option of leaving him alone- While the Ravenclaw brunette seemed ecstatic to see her, she wouldn't want to bore him at an event such as this. Besides she wasn't the most outgoing student. She preferred to remain slightly on the perimeter of a circle when it came to friend groups. But still- it would be helpful to know what other students had planned to accomplish at the Ball.Inventory

Gala of Mysteries

| (@Eun-ji Lee Hunt | @Evelynn Decipio | @Hanako Tone) |
┏ ┓ This ploy wasn't at all like them. They were not social schemers like their families, though perhaps some of that ran in the blood. That or something else: something wholly new, and aggravatingly unpredictable, which was less than ideal for a duo who were typically beacons of restraint and self-control. In love, people behaved as fools, and they were no exception. Eun-ji's uncertain answer was met with a smile both knowing and melancholy in equal measure. Yet as intimately aware as he was of their shared heartache, he hadn't invited her along just to wallow in it. No one said they couldn't still enjoy themselves. Why not a game, a drink, a dance? Pericles knew all too well what self-isolation looked like, and in obnoxiously perceptive tradition, he recognized the state she was in. There was no reason for two Ravenclaws to roost up in their tower when they could, instead, be "alone together". Maybe Hana would regret not bringing her. Maybe Pericles was projecting.
“I wonder why they went through all that effort to decorate if they were just going to blind us by the fog.” A glimmer of amusement came and went from Peri's eye. "Don't worry. I've developed a knack for limited vision." His elbow was hooked by her hand, and he brought his opposite around to rest on it, firmly guiding Eun-ji through the cloud. As the sea of white obscured them, he deftly maneuvered around those trapped within. Once it cleared, the eagle's head was on a swivel again, scoping out the sea of black and white and- red. A shade he'd learned to look for, bright as blood and lethally coiled. A femme fatale if ever he'd seen one. Eve was prowling the room as only a cat could, intensely observing the commotion, which Pericles had granted a wide berth. Alone for now, he noticed; he had to douse a spark of selfish relief at that.
Dad, strange and sick fellow that he was, would wax that love was agony. If it hurt, it was real. Pericles' first authentic infatuation was feeling an awful lot like the stages of grief: denial, in the beginning, as he convinced himself that his intense desire to share her company was based in firm friendship alone. Anger with himself that he had developed feelings which might compromise that friendship. Bargaining with himself to ride things out, to wait and see if she felt the same, or if his feelings might change. And now, sadness, the dull ache of pining for something he believed was beyond his grasp. His thoughts unwittingly aligned with Eun-ji's feelings for Hana: if Eve saw him the same way, surely she wouldn't have settled for Aaron or AJ or whoever was at the Mistletoe Spin. Right? Right.
Pericles teetered on the precipice of the acceptance stage, but was yet to reach it, as seeing her gave the feeling lodged in his heart a sharp, sadistic twist. Of course she looked flawless. She always did in his eye. As far as he was concerned, Evelynn Decipio could have gotten away with wearing a burlap sack. He hadn't mentioned his object of affection by name when he and Eun-ji secretly poured their hearts out, but with the way he craned his neck to watch her walk, it wouldn't be a difficult guess. Wrenching his gaze away and ahead, Pericles muttered rather sullenly, "Any sign of yours...?" In trademark sun and moon fashion, as Eve entered the scene with fire and fury, Pericles exited in silence and gloom.┗ ┛

| ••••••••• | ••••••• 𝕴 know, were the treacherous words that had wanted to crawl out of Sanguinius's throat, but he had managed to clamp his jaw shut in time, and halt it's escape from spilling forth before it could fully take shape on his tongue. I know, and I have been watching you the whole we have had our classes together. A display of attention that you would be likely be uncomfortable with if you somehow heard. If Elena had known that he had been sneaking furtive glances at her, how hell-bent he was on trying to figure out the sensation of misplaced guilt that marked his flesh like a lingering malediction of a curse - with enough desperation to grasp at the frayed strings to figure out what it was, then she would have made him out to be a lurking tom with a fixation problem. Information that, without a speck of doubt, someone like her would have never wanted to grace their ears during their first meeting with a stranger they weren't familiar with - worst of all, never interacted until now. He would keep the shameful secret until the day he was six feet below the ground, rotting inside of a coffin after an accident gone terribly wrong or something along the lines, with only a gravestone to speak of who he was. He dared not to disrupt the balance that been curated. His curiosity was equally matched in the same spark it had been ignited from, a search for the answers that Sanguinius was the cause of swam around in her gleaming eyes, and the mortification he had felt was briefly lifted from where it had dug deep. He felt himself being scrutinized through a looking glass, feeling as if he was a butterfly that had been pinned onto a board for the sole purpose of the distinctive patternation of his wings. The vision successfully grounded his feet in the place from where the two were standing the whole time on the checkerboard floor. Sanguinius didn't know if he should feel flattered about the effect he tended to have on people. For a fleeting moment, something deep inside of him crooned in satisfaction from the compliment. Instead of enveloping Elena’s hand with his own, Sanguinius took her hand and deftly turned it over so it would be facing downwards. He leaned down, his hair a nest of soft, champagne curls that glinted like spun gold, partially obscuring his face while doing so, and pressed a kiss against her skin. His touch both mild and reverent at the same time, as if he was down on his knees before an altar, after he had laid bare of all the sins that had been haunting him in feverish prayers - he might as well have been. " Sanguinius Demarest. " He murmured, before he pulled away. "Do disregard my reaction, Clark. I'm not generally bad-tempered, and it’s not often someone accidentally bumps into me without keeping their drink upright. " The sterling rings were a stark contrast to the kind of jewelry he occasionally preferred, and he found himself to be right. Right in the sense that calmer tones had suited her far better. He imagined how she would look when the wintertime would finally arrive to replace the autumnal equinox - transforming the trees into blankets of snow-laden branches and the streets a great expansion of a wintry wonderland. " I happen to be from Hogwarts, as well. A Gryffindor, though, you must have already guessed with all of the... " He gestured vaguely to the attire he was wearing, sarcasm practically woven into his inflection like a sharp needle sticking out from a haystack. His outfit was primarily monochrome, making it impossible to miss the dark wine-bordeaux hues that punctuated the whole ensemble, adding a touch of vividness to the otherwise muted palette. " the red and gold that practically scream house pride. " " You'll be surprised at how you've become a relatively familiar face for me to see when walking around the halls. " That was clearly a lie, a blatant falsehood, yet Sanguinius had no choice but to weave a lie. " Are you accusing me of robbing yours? " Surprisingly, instead of igniting his short fuse of a temper, there was a playful bite to his demeanor that clung to the mirth. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, hinting at a burgeoning smile that threatened to crack right through. " Why, Clark, I didn't know you would be into those types of novels. Here I was, thinking you were the type of girl to have enjoyed authentic, mature literature when all this time you like a good love story. " " You got me. " He threw his hands up in mock surrender, having placed his mocktail down ages ago. " I'm here on the pretense of whisking a lady to a little game. A hunt. After all, what’s a heart worth if it’s never tested? " Then, a blur of maroon darted between his ankles, causing him to wind furthur back in surprise. The expression of sheer displeasure had overshadowed his features, his crimson-glossed gaze flickering wildly over to the fox, watching the final flick of its bushy tail as it vanished through the throng of parted legs before he could even wring it around the neck. The newly-engaged couple - that he wasn't even aware of before he had caught the rougish fox darting away from the direction - now occupied the forefront of Sanguinius's mind, prompting him to question why the crowd had come to a standstill, whispering and gaping at them. They looked prepared and of age, was there anything else that he would have thought or considered to be strange? Was it the suddenness of their engagement that drew such attention? Sanguinius clicked his tongue. |

Faces swam in and out of focus, swallowed now and then by fog only to appear suddenly in its dispersal like phantoms in a dream. Music filled the space and a thousand lights flickered overhead from massive chandeliers. Voices swam together, distorted and jumbled as though heard through water, all the while competing with the incessant beat pounding rapidly and inescapably through the din. She felt cold and hot in equal measure, vaguely aware of movement across the grounds and through throngs of people, but certain she must be in a dream. Every now and then, a glance up to the side would reveal the profile of an angular jaw and defined features framed by tousled bleached hair, and she'd look away again just as quick, as though afraid to be noticed. Even if she was, though, it wouldn't matter. It wasn't as though she was going to run. Her hand was captured within that of another, and she had no desire to try to pull it free.
Greta had arrived at the Gala of Mysteries alongside Felix Kolbeck, not just as a friend as was typically the case—Durmstrang students were known to flock together for just about everything—but as his date. Anytime one of their Durmstrang peers had made a comment on it, Greta hadn't been able to give a proper reply, cycling between hiding her blush behind a book, dissolving into stifled giggles, or biting her lip to stop the inevitable smile as Felix threatened to bash someone's brains in for the umpteenth time. Even up to the moment of their heading towards the party dressed in a new dusty rose dress styled after flappers of the 1920s and wearing sapphire and pearl jewelry lent to her by the Lady Kolbeck herself, Greta could hardly believe it was actually happening. The jewels weight heavy and cold upon her skin, a foreign feeling for one accustomed to making due with lace and ribbon and woven flowers. They weighed her steps the same way a dream might when one tries to race forward but finds themselves going nowhere quickly.
It was, in all honesty, a welcome reprieve from the alternative. The explosion that had welcomed them to Hogsmeade had shaken all of them to their core. It had been luck and an unhealthy affection for British sweets that had spared her and Felix and a number of the others from what could very well have been an early conclusion. No sooner had they landed than had Greta bounded off to Hogsmeade, shrill with her promises to die in a sugar coma. None of them could have anticipated what came next. Since then, her nights had been restless—if sleep had come at all. She'd cried more of the time than not, upset for the loss of their peers and headmistress. Distressed at how close they'd come to the same fate. Angry and guilty about having been spared. And worried about what this would mean for the future.
The squeezing of her hand pulled her from the dreamscape back to the present. A glance down to see her hand enveloped in the large sturdy hands of Koby's own refreshed the dusting of a blush across her cheeks. At the clearing of his throat, she looked up, smiling sheepishly as she recognized that he seemed flushed too. His attempt to play it cool worked. She was none the wiser to his discomfort, instead latching onto his statement. "A maze," she echoed, confusion apparent on her features, wondering why there would be an emphasis on maize at a gala based on a time period a century ago (the Norwegian word for maize is mais). She supposed it was sort of harvest time.. "Do the British do something with maize like they do with pumpkins?" she wondered, defaulting her speech to Swedish as she did when she was speaking with Felix. Looking around the hall, she didn't see any maize. She returned her sights to the blonde and pointed back over her shoulder towards the way from which they'd just come. "Outside?"

Gala of Mysteries
October 19th, 2024 Great Hall“English” “Gaelic”
Alyss had never felt so beautiful in her life. She had on a nice green dress. Its sleeves were puffy, matching the time period they were given, and it had a corset back that was actually more comfortable than she would have expected. The skirt was as long as a princess dress, poofing out around her and making her feel more confident and feminine than she ever had. Her hair was in a beautiful half-up and half-down style, with the top layer braided together in the back, her remaining hair lightly curled and framing her face. She wore a pearl bracelet and matching earrings, along with a simple gold and pearl necklace. Now, none of these pearls were real, but no one can actually tell just based off of looks. So Alyss entered the ballroom, skirts flowing behind the young girl as she stepped into the room along with Novalie and Evpraksiya. Repressing the urge to twirl, Alyss instead halted for a moment, wide eyed about the transformation to the Great Hall.
She had to take a moment to soak everything in; the music, new round tables, various food options, the opportunities were endless! Alyss took a step towards the food, but then felt a yearning to follow the music. She soon found herself once again anchored in place, drinking in the sheer space that the Great Hall had never seemed to have, with the long tables taking up so much room. But with them pushed away? This truly was a ballroom. Alyss gazed around at the people, noticing accidental collisions(@Elena Clark & @Sanguinius Demarest), a whole proposal(Alyss thought everyone at Hogwarts was much too young for that!!), and others who were acting more normal, simply chatting away.
Alyss wasn’t one to insert herself into any of these situations before sugar, so she made the decision to have dessert before barging into anything- at least this way she’d have some energy first! And that JELL-O seemed to be calling her name. She began walking over, not nearly as graceful as she was sure she should be, and somehow managed without crashing into anyone, tripping, or breaking an ankle. Of course, her only excuse for this would be the kitten heels she was wearing at the moment.
As she walked over, Alyss noticed another girl who looked stunning. While of course, everyone else look gorgeous as well, she was beautiful in a way that almost couldn’t be described. Her dress was simple and black, but what caught Alyss’s attention was the confidence she exuded. While Alyss had a high self esteem and was quite confident herself, the other girl simply seemed unbothered. Her butterfly hairclip and elegance certainly added to the picture perfect girl. Alyss knew: she had to befriend her. Thankfully, she seemed to also be making her way to the desserts, and Alyss nodded to herself and made sure to stand up straight before approaching.
“Hello, I’m Alyss. I noticed you from across the room, looking stunning.” Alyss spoke, smiling after she began talking. If all else failed and the other girl found her creepy, she could probably just avoid her for the rest of school… Which was 6 more years, not including the rest of this one. Let’s hope Alyss didn’t sound like a stalker. “What’s your name? And, I must ask: where did you find that hairclip?” she added, inclining to the left as she asked, keeping her fears well off her face. She resisted the urge to fidget with her bracelet, and maintained a calm look and demeanor, a soft smile still lingering on her face.

With last nights escapade into the Abandoned Toilets and the disapproval of her dorm-mate, Meiyu was slightly hesitant to debut her newly auburn hair. Briefly pondering on potential consequences and further disapproval from her family members for her hast decision, though it was the least of her priorities, she had a ball to attend, which was something she relished in. Frequently attending gatherings with her family had vastly equipped Meiyu compared to her peers, it was what came with the Knight name. She had noticed the excitement her other dorm-mates shared, spending most of their time pampering themselves for their dates compared to the young girl who dared to go alone, opting to dress in a gown that may be contended as risqué given her age, as a few whispers had reminded her.
Upon entering the newly decorated Great Hall, Meiyu was met with an overwhelming sight, a proposal. The young girl scoffed, it seemed as though Mathias, who she had previously encountered in an empty classroom, was entitled enough to believe the ball was his for the taking, further evident by the gawking eyes on the pair, making it evident that this terror act of an incident would make a column in the headliner. Almost rolling her eyes, choosing to ignore this overbearing public display of affection, Meiyu strode past the never ending tables occupying different students. A young girl who sat at a table appeared disinterested - or perhaps upset, despite being in attendance of a ball, briefly caught her attention, it was clear that some lacked decorum and even more evident that many have previously never attended a ball prior to the Gala hosted tonight.
Her thoughts were quickly disrupted with a fellow lion sharing his thoughts on the terror everyone had the unfortune of witnessing, the proposal, his comment had shifted her prior lack of expression into a small giggle. "I can't believe he would do such a thing in front of the whole school. Spare me the embarrassment." Meiyu shivered, mentally questioning if one day her boggart would portray itself as a public proposal, as she continued to scan the hall, making note of the other attendees. Sanguinius was here, noticing him enticed with a blonde first year dressed in red, she pondered on whether it was worth tormenting the lion, though understood the reasoning behind his sudden enchantment, it would be a lie to disregard her beauty.
Someone who caught the young girls eye was self-proclaimed hero, the Slytherin from a few weeks ago. Her brow instinctively raised as she watched the older student interact with another older boy, and a cat? She gently nudged the lion beside her, motioning to the two hidden in the corner as though they had hoped to avoid all but the sharp-eyed. "Tell me, Aodhan, right?" She questioned hesitantly. "Do you know his name? The one with brown hair." The last thing Meiyu wanted was for word to spread alleging her of an infatuation on the older boy, causing her to divert her attention from the pair hidden away to finally give Aodhan attention, casting him a quick smile.

Amber had grown a slight dislike for coming to Hogwarts for a ball. The arrival here had been nowhere near smooth. Almost getting burnt up and watching her friends faint was not an experience she wanted to feel again. Last year's ball had been slightly less chaotic but she had heard about all the spells flying around, and people getting injured.
And the ball before that. People had drowned. Or, almost drowned. She was concerned what was going to happen next. This was why she had her wand at the ready. But when she entered the room, a lot of her worry disappeared. Everything seemed normal for now. The decor was stunning. And the music! Beautiful. She was drawn towards the food like always but was stopped by a sight.
A proposal? Already? She recognized them as two fifth years but she couldn't remember the names of them. And then came the fox. An animagus for sure. Right up to the girl and then it ran away? The strangest part was the person who had just been proposed too didn't even look that happy. Or could she not tell. But then again, she did not want to get married in her 5th year if that was even allowed. She barely even wanted to date.
And yet she found herself here, this time with a date. Mostly because she had been forced too but also because well... it was a chance to make a new friend. The last time she had gone with someone she actually liked... well let's just say that hadn't turned out well. She had no idea where that person even was now. Was he even at Ilvermorny anymore? So she told herself she wouldn't date anyone. At least not for now.
Lost in thought she barely noticed someone in front of her and when she kept walking she bumped right into them. "Ohmygosh!" she yelped, "I'm so sorry!"
She finally began to notice everything around her. That had been a not so great reality check. The people. There were tons of people here already. Most in tiny little clumps talking together. Lots of dates. She wasn't surprised.
She also made sure to smooth out her navy dress. It was so 1950's but she did love it. And she adored her accessories. She was grateful for the entire outfit as her mother had donated it to her. The hat and gloves were her favorite part. And the red purse was also quite handy. Her whole outfit complemented her eyes and hair, something she just loved.
And of course there was the necklace. The problematic one that she had lost when she had arrived here. Because of this, she was wearing it, despite the fact that it was not matching her outfit. She didn't want to lose it again.
She scanned around the room looking for her current date Miles. Nowhere to be seen. And her bestie Kaya was nowhere to be seen as well. She sighed. Oh well, she would find him soon, somewhere.

INTERACTIONS @Evelynn Decipio | MENTIONING @

Where once there had been a lovely bouquet of flowers. There was now ash...
AJ wasn't sure what had happened, he'd brought the bouquet back to his Dorm room. Left to complete a few various errands during the day and when he'd returned the bouquet he had purchased for Evelynn had crumbled into black dust. He had lamented briefly on why nothing ever seemed to go right for him but as the day grew later he knew that he had to do something.
Of course he knew of spells that could conjure flowers from his wand like nothing but such a thing felt so impersonal. He had been proud of the bouquet because he had spent time thinking about it, deciding with the florist which flowers had to go where. Maybe it was the muggle within him talking but he figured if he was going to conjure flowers, he might as well conjure a cardboard cutout of himself as Evelynn's date.
Which is all to explain why the young Lion finds himself near the shore of the lake as the sun goes down, prowling around for anything that could reasonably be called a "nice" flower. Hope seemed about lost until his eyes fell upon a single, solitary lily. Now he had no clue if Evelynn liked lillies or not but at this point it was that or nothing. He was already running late.
He gently plucked the lily and tucked it carefully into the left breastpocket of the coat he had purchased for tonight. He took a few quick strides before morphing into the large dog that was his Animagus form. This way there was no risk of damaging or dirtying his outfit before he made it to the Gala. Sometimes his genius was truly almost frightening.
The large hound loped its way through the school grounds as fast as he could muster. He was sure to get an earful from his date for arriving so late. Heh, 'date', it sounded so strange to him. All these events and he wasn't sure he'd ever officially had a date. As a first year he supposed he had somewhat but did it really count at that point? He wasn't sure what to expect, or what to do. But he had been practicing at least somewhat so he was sure he could manage.
Eventually he made it just outside the Great Hall. He transformed back into human form as he looked around for Evelynn. It seemed she had gotten tired of waiting and had headed inside, at least he hoped so, he wasn't sure what he'd do if she'd gotten upset and gone back to the Dorms. He hurried inside the Hall, trying to spy those familiar ginger locks of hair.
It didn't take him long before he spotted her, and for a moment he was taken aback by how beautiful she looked. She had told him the general vibe of the outfit she'd be wearing but he hadn't expected it to look this good. Now he worried he was going to look a tad rubbish standing next to her, even though he had chosen to be a detective to go alongside her 'femme fatale' vibe.
Still, he had to press on. He wasn't going to just scamper over to the food, fill his face and go back to the dorm like he had so many times before. Eve had invited him, she wanted him here as her date...presumably, so that's what he was going to be. He moved swiftly over to her, not noticing the person she was currently engaging in conversation.
"Hievsoosurrehamleetahdbohyehfloorsanallbehsummnhappntooemanahfellahdtehgehyehnoofloorsbehettoolungerthaahthooetwoodanyooloorullyneeceteneeght..." Great job AJ, some of those were almost words.
She would be able to see him now, clad in a white dress shirt, dark slacks and a beige longcoat. A long red tie dangling loosely from his neck. It was evident from the slight shine in his hair that he had tried to tame his curly locks with some gel, or perhaps mousse without much success. In truth it was the first time AJ had even tried styling his hair and it had lead to some parts being slicked back whilst others were spiked up, but hey its the thought that counts right?
He clears his throat gently as he tried to regain some composure. He remembered his plan was to keep the Scottishness a bit more under wraps so he didn't embarrass Evelynn. "S-sorr...ee, wha-t ah-I meant toooo say wez-was..." Man, this was hard, how did the English manage to do this so easily. "You...loo-k stunn-ing." It was like every syllable was its own singular thought as he tried to caculate how to pronounce each word without slipping into his natural accent.
He reaches into his coat pocket and withdraws the freshly plucked lily. "Am...ah men...I'm sorr-y e-if you don'-t le-like lillies b-bu'-t..." His words perhaps failing him now, or maybe struggling to maintain the forced accent he holds the flower out to Evelynn for her to accept or not.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Calming Presence in Effect: Figaro & Elias Affected
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────i
A little over six hours ago, the boy had been a racer on the course designed for the matchups of Slytherin and Ravenclaw as well as Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. He had once been mounted upon a broom, had worn a sleek racer's outfit, and had bore both a cheeky grin and an aggressive daredevil flying tactic.
Pushing open the doors of the ball, the sixth year student waddled in in clothes that were obviously much too large for him. Much too large, and arguably quite low-class for the high class event that he was entering into. A bowler hat, slightly worn on the brim, was worn close to the front of his head in a way that shaded emerald eyes, a cane was in his left hand and being spun idly around his wrist in a strange show of slight-of-hand. Slate grey jacket and pants of the same hue--a color that likely was once supposed to be total black--a simple white undershirt, black tie, heavily worn black work shoes, and brown vest. On his right hand's ring finger was a small silver ring, which was responsible for the formation of the pseudo-handlebar moustache. His hair was purposefully unkempt, rifled and mussed as if it had not been properly combed for a few days, or as if he had elected to attempt a perm.
Wizards may not have known the character well, but perhaps a few cultured half-bloods and muggleborns would recognize the attempted imitation of the famed Muggle character known as the Little Tramp as depicted by Charlie Chaplin. Piérre's eyes, lined with deep and emphatic black eyeliner which accentuated his eyes and the sad yet oddly neutral expressions that came with them, wandered about the room for a few seconds--cane spinning in his hand--before glancing away and towards another part of the ball. Dancing had never really appealed to him, and besides... he hadn't a partner to dance with. Perhaps he would have the opportunity a little later in the night... but for now he wanted to explore.
At his legs, Figaro purred and rubbed on the loose-fitting pants, leaving silver bengal hair as he did so. Looking down at his compatriot, Piérre smiled for a moment before tapping the cane on the ground and striding through the area. Every so often he tipped his hat goofily to one person or another (feel free to say you saw him) accompanied with a closed-lip smile that made his eyes glitter deep but shiny, but bit by bit and soundless as a silent film he made his way to the exit. He had things to do there instead--there were too many people here. Too many things, too many hazards.
Already there were interesting things happening around him--clumps of people that he knew... people he didn't. Dramas that did not interest him for the time being, but would no doubt be something that he eventually either heard or learned about from the stories run by loose lips and wagging tongues. Nothing in the school stayed a secret for long, especially if one had the right resources or the right connections.
It just so happened that Piérre had decided to make such things his business in spades.
Right now he wanted fresh air. That was the reason he was walking away from his problems, the reason he was trying to escape from the things that hurt and smoldered unresolved deep down.
Yes. That would be his excuse. Not to be a bother.
He would get fresh air somewhere where he would be out of the way of everyone else.
