Finished Water Race Summer Camp 2024 PV to sign-ups

Cass Ito was not a big fan of waiting. Yes this water race looked fun, but it would be even more fun if it was their turn now. They had been waiting for what felt like ages, but couldn't have been more than a couple of minutes. Still far to long in their opinion. Why hadn't they been allowed to go first? It was all very exciting to watch as their team completed various water related tasks in an attempt to snatch victory, but they were done watching thanks and wanted to go show everyone how it was (or wasn't) done. They would lead their team to victory! Or at least have a lot of fun failing in an epic unforgettable way. Cass didn't really mind.

Their "task" to complete wasn't that exciting either. Fishing. All they knew about it was that old people enjoyed it and it took ages to do. Surely they must have it set up in some way that made it just a little bit faster. It was supposed to be a race after all. How did someone awesomely fail at fishing? Probably fall in. Cass had come prepared to get wet yes, but falling in would just be embarrassing for this task. They would just have to win it! They were sure they could out-fish all these other puny children (or in some cases, not children).

WATER RACE | Event 7
- August 6, 2024 -

SEPTIMUS squinted down the length of barely visible fishing line, tracing it to the point where it dipped into the water and then disappeared. It was hard to tell exactly where the end of his line was resting, especially since the water rippled every time he tried to move the fishing rod and distorted his view even more. The boy took a breath and reminded himself not to get frustrated; that would only make this more complicated.

But even when he tried not to think about it, Septimus couldn't shake the feeling that his team was already falling behind. All the older kids seemed better suited for the challenges they had picked — he'd never been fishing, but he had chosen this particular event because it seemed easier than most of the other options. It wasn't like he was really fishing, after all, and having to deal with seasickness and hooks and blood and... well, all that. His job was pretty easy. But could he do it faster than everyone else could? That was the question.

And the answer was... unsure. He would just have to hope he got lucky, or that his competitors got suddenly unlucky. If it came to that.

The field had spread out. The second to last event flew by, and the teams seemed to be doing their best to push for the lead.

"Team One has Cass Ito! They're doing a strong job- not far behind Team Six! They've fallen back into fifth place. We'll have to see if their team will be able to catch up!" Falling from first to fifth was a big fall, but Team One had proved that they were a strong team.

"Septimus Merrill represents Team Two! Back in sixth place, but not far from the teams ahead!"

"Out here for Team Three is Alliasta Holista, another name I probably majorly mispronounced. Her team's jumped from fourth to third, and she's not far behind the other teams! She might be able to catch the leaders!"

"Team Four's Cyrus Darsel might be another record breaker in the game! He's gotten quite far ahead of the others- Team Four might be looking at placing in the top three!" Team Four had been everywhere in the game, first, last, third, you name it and they were probably in that place. It seemed that Cyrus wanted that win for his team!

"American student Stephen Schwartz represents Team Five! He's doing great for his team- gotten them in second! Slight drop from where they were last time, but still doing great!"

"Representing Team Six is Alejandro Garcia! He's up in fourth place now! Solid round by Team Six!"

"First to the finish is Cyrus Darsel, followed by Stephen, Alliasta, Alejandro, Cass, and Septimus! Last event racers, you know what to do!"

As much as he was really wanting to deny it, Casey was slowly coming round to the whole summer camp thing, even if he did choose to admit it right when summer camp was reaching its end. What he ended up doing there wasn't half bad; He ate some food, got some nice walks to himself, ate some food, did some juggling, met a nice enough guy from Uagadou, ate some food, did more juggling, sat and watched the sunset a few times and ate some food. Aside from the whole Knockback Jinx kerfuffle, it wasn't a bad time at camp.

As a last hurrah of sorts, he found himself standing with a paddle as the Water Race entered its final stretch. Casey twirled the paddle between his fingers as the seventh event began to finish up. He was an athletic kid - a bold statement considering he hadn't done any sports in a while. Well, at least he could come home and say he did something worthwhile to his folks. It would make up for all the planned hikes he had to sacrifice for the sake of coming to summer camp.

Thing is, paddle boarding... Wasn't really his thing, coming from a rookie point of view. He saw himself throwing water balloons when he first signed up for the event, given his self-rewarding talent for juggling. Throwing things was his jam! Alas, as he already learnt when his brother went missing, you can't have nice things. Otherwise, why would they end so quickly, or just never happen?

He would take it like a champ though. He knew he could balance. He'd unicycled the length of the back garden numerous times so it's not like equilibrium was foreign to him. Though pedalling fast wasn't really a good take away for balancing on something he's never done prior. The best prep he could do was to flex out his toes and balance on his heels before Stephen would give him the go-ahead. Ye olde stilts technique.

He wasn't bothered about being last either, though given a lot of his teammates were older - even some from Ilvermorny like him - a sense of pride and self-dignity made itself known in his being. Whether it was because he was the youngest or he didn't want to seem weak compared to his older peers, he had a lot to prove. He smirked to himself. Everything was like a show, and boy did he love giving them to his own private audience... His reflection in the mirror. Better than nothing.

And no better time for one than right now. His first public performance, even if it was balancing on a paddle board of all things. Still, if he could juggle anything, then anything could be made into a trick.

He ceased twirling his paddle and with his circus smarts, he was off. If he was going to finish this race, he'd do it the "Confident and Streetwise Casey" way.

Last place. Absolutely not.
As soon as her teammates hand touched hers to give Jamie the go ahead to take off she took off, running like her life depended on it to her part of the course, like hell she would let her team come in at last place.

It had truly been a roller-coaster of a race, probably having found themselves in every possible position during the race, and Jamie didn't like that she now had to pick up the slack. If the others had just been better they wouldn't be last at this point! Not that that mattered now, all she could do was be better than the rest and fight her way back to first place and win this thing.

Having made it to the paddle board she got on and remembered the few times she had done this before, remembering the mistakes she had made those times and making extra sure to not repeat them. As every mistake would cost her valuable time in the race, time she could not afford to waste if she wanted to get the team back into first place.

Stealing herself she took hold of the paddle and started going for it, the finish line the only thing on her mind at that point in time.

Today was probably the day she had been the most excited about - after the quidditch match, obviously. She loved water races. She used to do some every summer with her dad's side cousins, during family reunions, they would all go to the Ingebritsen estate, the Kvalheim estate, or the Olsen estate. They would stay up late, play in the forest, the lakes, the sea, make fire camps, sleep outside. But not this year: except for Ingrid, they had all graduated or were too young. That was why Astrid was so excited for the summer camp's water race. Bonus point, she loved paddle racing. Astrid, like many other, had been loudly cheering for her team and booing for the others. She had cheered in Norwegian when Greta had led their team to first place. But then her team dropped to fifth place. And now it was the girl's turn to lead her team to victory. They were second to last, she would have to go fast to get them in the top 3. Team one will be in the top 3, she promised herself. The second her teammate's hand touched hers, she went for the paddle board. She was a quidditch player, she loved rock climbing, she had balance. Steady on the board, she looked over to see exactly who she would be competing against. She didn't know any of them except one, a French boy that looked her age. All the others seemed younger, good -for her. Her eyes back on the finish line, she took a deep breath and focused on that line.

Alliasta tagged Quentin's hand—and he was off! This race had been quite the marathon; it was agonizing having to wait the whole time and watch his team's highs and lows, and he couldn't do anything to help. When it was finally his turn, their team was right in the middle of the pack. It would be hard to get first place, but not impossible. He recognized one of the girls paddling near him—they had been under the mistletoe, or maybe they had played quidditch at some point. If Quentin wasn't so focused, he would have given her a cheery wave and hoped the memory of her name would come back—if he had learned it that is.

Instead, all his energy was centered on his balance and using his arms to move his paddle as fast as he could. And he probably had two things going for him: he knew a thing or two about muggle sports and he was a quidditch beater. He used his arms to hit things hard while staying balanced on a broom—this skill had to translate. Right? Right?! Sweat began to pool on his brow, but before he knew it the race would be over—the beginning took much longer to reach than the end would.

The time had come for the final event of the Water Race: the standing paddle board.

"Astrid Olsen represents Team One! She's already holding strong in the last event and has gotten her team up into third place! She's not far behind the two teams ahead of her- she might be able to catch up!"

"Team Two is represented by Jamie Carville! Another strong team, another big change in their standing! Having gone from sixth place to second, Jamie is doing great, but Astrid isn't far behind her- she might be able to catch up!"

"None other than Quentin Gagné is out for Team Three! He's secured first place for them, but Teams One and Two aren't far behind! He'll have to power through to get to the end before them!" Team Three had really stepped up their game, and their reward had definitely come.

"Elena Clark for Team Four seems to have fallen behind the pack, and is back in sixth place. It'll take some strong cheering to help her out!"

"American Casey Stone races for Team Five, which is currently in fourth place! He's just behind Astrid, and might be able to catch her before the end of the race!"

"Last, but certainly not least, is Renelle Dalton for Team Six!" She's hanging out in fifth place, not far ahead of Elena!"

Once all the racers made it to the finish, Sage handed out towels to those who needed it and announced the final standings of the race:

"Coming in sixth place is Team Four! Just ahead of them was Team Six in fifth place! Fourth place goes to Team Five!" She took a dramatic breath after congratulating those three teams she just announced. "Third place is Team One! Second place is Team Two! And, drumroll please! First place, the winners of the Water Race, is Team Three!"
