Thoughts
Irina seemed just as entranced by their surroundings as Mahlioz had been. The mention of hunger, though, was enough to bring the Gryffindor out of that trance and into a new one, as she gazed at the gargantuan array of food with sparkling eyes. Mahlioz's already big grin just got wider at the sight, and then she was dragged (not unkindly) to the tables. Irina had already started on building up her plate, but Mahlioz wasn't sure where to start. If just the drinks section was so big and foreign, how on earth was she to choose something from the foods one?

The last times they'd been to a ball, they'd had a couple things to eat, but they'd never stayed in one place long enough to actually feast, as balls were supposed to be for. They were half-worried they should keep their plate small, just in case something happened (as they tended to do at Hogwarts balls) and they had to go... they didn't know, maybe save someone from drowning in a lake? Not that she'd been able to last time, stuck on land, watching her friends struggle.

No, not that. Stop thinking about that. This is a new ball. And the sight of Irina's gigantic pile of food helped quite a bit. Mahlioz finally tried to get over their indecisiveness and chose a few things that looked delicious, before getting a drink and joining their best friend at an empty table. She was thankful Irina knew her well enough to choose one that wasn't too full of people yet. When the girl pulled out a chair for her, she giggled at the posh accent and responded, "Why, how kind of you, my dearest compatriot! My deepest and most sincere gratitude," dropping her Scottish accent for a faked, silly (and rather terrible) posh English one.

So far, things were going calmly, almost peacefully. Eerily peacefully. This was a Hogwarts ball; Mahlioz knew it wasn't to stay that way. They'd had luck in avoiding the worst parts in their last two balls, so perhaps they could do the same this time. She hoped. The craziest thing that had happened so far was the bees, and that hadn't even been that bad. Mahlioz couldn't chase away the nagging feeling that something was going to go wrong. But for now, they tried to relax, and appreciate how awesome this evening was being.

Because it was truly being awesome. Who could have asked for more than an ethereal dancing floor, delicious food, and a best friend? "Gods, I'm so glad you're here. I can't believe you haven't been to one of these before!"

Skipping through the gates to the Main Ball, Greta practically glowed with excitement. She had never seen the pitch at Hogwarts look so enchanted. It was like something right out of a fairy tale, and it tickled every little hopeless romantic nerve within her. Trees that she had never seen before bloomed in full glory. They were beautiful. Petals fell occasionally, fluttering on the breeze and sprinkling the ground as though a hundred little cherubs flew above with baskets of them to throw on the partygoers below. Without any sight of the goal posts or even the castle beyond, it was easy to forget that they were even at Hogwarts at all, rather than having been transported to some fictional storyland. It almost felt like if she were to turn about, she could expect to see prince charming, waiting in the middle of the dance floor, his hand extended out to her.

The thought left her bubbly and a bit flushed as she continued to drift dreamily over towards the intoxicating aromatic pull of the food spread. There certainly hadn't been any exaggeration with the claim the little floating paper had made about a feast. Greta bit her lower lip, hugging her ball of bees close to her chest as she gazed wide eyed at the volume of foods available for her. Shoulders rose and chest expanded as she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, allowing herself to appreciate the full breadth of the foods. Some of the smells were quite familiar and homey to her; others, entirely foreign. Eyes snapped open as her stomach urged her forward.

At the tables, she paused, practically vibrating on the spot, the bees within the magical forcefield of a ball increasing the intensity of their buzzing as though in protest. Or perhaps they, too, wanted to taste the delectable juices and sugary sweets just as much as she did. "Where do I even start!" Shockingly, there was really only one other person hovering around the tables, a young boy in a blue suit and matching cloak (@Anthony Kingsmage). The beak of what looked like a raven protruded from his mask. She couldn't help but be grateful for her own relatively flat mask. "Hello!" She smiled cheerily at the child, waving genially at him. "It is hard to eat with your mask, no?" she wondered, moving her hand to motion over her own mask to ensure she wasn't misunderstood—a commonality given just how thick her Norwegian accent still tended to be.

"It is good, though, yes?" She had craned her neck over, investigating what he'd chosen to put on his plate, then looking around the table to see if she could find the same things. The prosciutto in particular lit up her eyes, an almost gasping sound coming with the breath that followed her first taste. It was delicious. Particularly the way it almost melted in her mouth and left her with such a strong lingering savory taste. "Vehry yommy!" she exclaimed immediately after taking another bite, her mouth a bit full and distorting the comment. "What is your name? I am Greta. I am student of Durmstrang. And these a—" She had turned to introduce her companions, Valya and Romeo. Only... they were nowhere to be seen. Her brows creased as she turned completely about. "They were just behind me..." Absently taking a bit of something else, a bit of hard bread with some tomatoes and spices on it, she pouted. "I am sorry." She turned back to the boy. "I think my brothers are here, but they are not here. I do not know where are they. But food is good! What it is your name?"

Quinn smiled as people finally figured out the clues. The doors opened and people scurried into the ball like squirrels. Quinn giggled as Ophelia raced down the path, motioning for Quinn and Topaz to follow. Quinn started to follow but was much slower. When she reached the ball she was happy to see that the decorations she had put up earlier had not yet been ripped down or apart. Spotting Ophelia she walked over. What has she gotten herself into? she wondered, seeing Ophelia looking nervous. Jumping into the conversation, Quinn smiled at Ophelia.
"Hey Ophelia, there you are I was wondering where you we-" Quinn cut herself off realizing what she was interrupting. A girl- Viva- was looking very sad and a boy was standing next to her.
"Oh geez- sorry about that... didn't mean to interupt!" Quinn apolgized.
"I was just trying to find Ophelia- were going to the ball as friends together! I'm Quinn by the was and now I think I'll clam up." Quinn shut her mouth feeling her face flame. This is not how I wanted to start the ball of like. At least I know most of the people in this conversation. Quinn thought. Quinn smiled nervously at the boy, hoping he would be nice to her. Quinn sometimes wished should could just keep her mouth shut. Luckily, Ophelia would understand her and hopefully so would Viva and that other boy.

Emily fitted the key through the hole and the wooden gates opened up like she was being welcomed into a palace. The grandiose entrance and the sight before her immediately made her feel self-conscious and her insecure nature began to bubble inside her.

She stepped inside and took a few moments to take in the whole room. Wicker tables were lined along the back behind a large and spacious dance floor. Trees and cherry blossoms encircled the enclosure, continuing the flowery aroma that was present from the gates back outside. Emily couldn't help but feel impressed and somewhat calm - it was all so beautiful. It did feel more like a giant garden than a dance. She could probably get used to this given that she was entering a dance without a partner.

She spotted a few familiar faces, all accompanied with dance partners and friend groups. She fixed the orange masquerade mask she got just the other day and brought her hair to rest in front of her shoulders, hoping it would disguise her. She knew her height would give her away eventually, but she was still in blissful ignorance that she looked like a different person when her hair wasn't tied back. It was one thing for her to feel awkward at a social event as big as this, even if it was her first time, let alone another for her to turn up without an escort, but what would sting the most would be if people she knew had seen and realised that.

They would probably pity me in some way...

The ball was still warming up despite the growing number in attendance. Emily stood by an empty table at the edge of the venue. If she acted like she was minding her own business, perhaps people would simply leave her in peace, or maybe she could pretend she had an escort that was running late or was getting her a glass of punch and was just waaaay across the room to get it...

Emily sighed. She had no clue why she was there other than the fact that she would probably be ridiculed by others had she'd not gone, only to open up the opportunity to allow more teasing to take its place.

"Oh look, it's Emily... the one girl who DIDN'T go to the ball."
"Isn't that the girl who had the confidence to arrive WITHOUT a partner? Lame!"
"Her parents have thrown parties before right? Shouldn't she know how this whole thing works? Maybe she was lying like all pretentious wealthy families..."
"If she's gonna suck at being social maybe she should stick her nose back into her fairy-tale books."

Emily groaned. She should just walk out right now but the sight of the flowers and the trees suddenly captured her attention. Her lips managed a small reassuring smile. Greenery and nature always did have a profoundly positive effect on Emily.

I'll stay for the scenery...

Aurélie smiled at the beauty of the ball venue. There was greenery and flowers everywhere, small tables, and a dance floor. So much to do, so many people to speak with. In all honestly, she really didn't know how to start. She'd never been a fan of fancy parties, but now, with everyone unrecognisable in their masquerade masks and sparkling finery, it made the night feel truly magical, as the ball's theme suggested.

Admiring everything, Aurélie made her way through the crowd. For a brief moment, she wondered whether she'd been wrong to not find a date or a friend group to go to the ball with. Many others definitely had, and were sticking firmly to those groups. But she didn't want to be smothered with the attention of a small group and she didn't want to smother anyone with her attention. She wanted to float around, meet as many new people as possible, and smile throughout the entire ball. Maybe, when she was older and dating people became more appealing, she would find a special someone to go with. But for now, she admired the scenery and approached strangers.

Aurélie decided to find a social outcast to approach. Someone who didn't have a group either. She could always enter a group later, when she was ready to eat or dance. For now, she wanted to talk, and no group would give her that. Looking around, she spotted a girl in a short purple and orange dress. It was pretty, but not extravagant. The girl looked nervous, if not completely out of place. A person who would surely be grateful for the company of someone.

Putting on a bright smile and smoothing her dress, Aurélie walked up to someone random for the second time tonight. Sticking out her hand once more, she started to introduce herself to the girl. "Hello there! Aurélie Nathalie Duval, first year, Beauxbatons. You are?" It was a direct way of approaching, but being direct was what Aurélie enjoyed.

Uri's New Mask
Image posted by the member
Uri thought things were proceeding quite reasonably. He'd made it back to the ball, his master plan to con Matthias had started pending actually seeing the boy again, and he'd made his way back to his new friends. Well, he at least thought they were his new friends. Then, without warning, without, well, anything, Siobhan had socked him right in the puss. It hurt quite a lot and he went down like a sack of potatoes. His poor limeade and melon and prosciutto did not survive the interaction, it all went clattering to the floor. "Ouch!" he cried as he clutched his nose. He went to grab it and massage it or at least see if it was broken, but strangely, he could not get to it. He was no expert, but he was sure that either the punch or the fall should've knocked the mask off and sent it clattering to the floor, but there it remained. He wiped at the mask to see if he was at least bleeding from his nose, but mercifully, he was not.

He took a couple of seconds to collect himself before propelling himself off the floor and standing in front of Siobhan and Reginald once more. "What in blazes was that for?!?" He exclaimed as he brushed himself off, discovering in the process that he was now wearing the limeade. He had missed her apology as he had talked over her but did hear her tell him to take that mask off and decided it would at least be prudent to let her check it. Hopefully, she was as good at healing as she was at punching. Before he started to take it off, he heard Reginald's quip about her punch, "Yes, quite mean, considering all I did was say hello," he said annoyedly, frowning under his mask. "Oh, alright," He said irritably as he reached up to take his mask off, "Just promise me you won't punch me again."

He reached and pulled at the top of his mask. Nothing happened. He could feel the force he was imparting on the mask, but it just wasn't coming off. "Uh... what the hell--sorry, heck," he had been taught never to curse at home, and he tried his best to adhere to it. He tried using a little more oomph to pull it off. Again, it would not come off. "Uhh... this is weird..." He trailed off as he reached under his face and tried to pull the mask off from his chin, "It... won't come off?"

Astrid was late. She knew she was late, and she didn't really care. She was alone in the Durmstrang cabin, wearing a long off-white dress and her flower-embroidered platform Converse. Standing in front of a mirror, she was finishing her makeup. A golden headband was crowning her forehead and an as golden mask was waiting on her bed. Staring right into her blue-grey eye, she was applying eyeliner and mascara. Then, she carefully took the golden mask from her bed and put it over her eyes. The mask was enchanted to stay in place no matter what would happen during the evening, and knowing Hogwarts' ball reputation, the enchantment was welcomed.
One last look to the mirror, her wand in her pocket, and off she was. Astrid walked the small distance that separated the campgrounds from the Quidditch Stadium. Was she surprised by the chaos she discovered? Absolutely not. Some students had blood on their faces, other definitely had been fighting. With a sigh, the girl lifted her skirts a little bit, just to avoid staining them. The music was nice, though.
Do people love drama that much? English people I swear...

She looked around, looking for familiar faces. Her classmates, teammates, people she had seen last year. She did recognize some faces, and all were busy, or anxious, or chocked from whatever had happened here. Not wanting to get involved in all that mess, the girl walked towards the doors of the stadium. Everything was so peaceful inside. So peaceful that she knew that soon enough, it would all be destroyed by some weird things and frightened or angry students. The girl passed under the arch, reading the no mask, no entry policy. Astrid then walked to the buffet, just to take a look, then turned around to admire the peaceful trees with the colourful flowers. The decor was magnificent.
What a shame that it's all going to be destroyed in a few hours...

Vasilius was very looking forward to the ball, he had been waiting for it ever since he heard of it back in Durmstrang, he couldn't wait to spend the whole ball with Violet, his chidhood friend and the only girl who gave him butterflies, Just when Vasilius was about to get more buried into his thought, his eyes fell on the clock near him, instantly his eyes widened, he was very late, Vasilius snatched his coat which was on a chair and started running towards the Quidditch Stadium.

The boy ran like there was no end, the last thing he would want is to make Violet wait, it was not even a bit gentleman like to make lady wait according to him, as Vasilius ran through the crowds he kept on mentally cursing at himself for being late on such an important day, being late was not his thing,

After a while of running Vasilius finally entered the ball, his hair messy while he himself was out of breath, but the first thing he did was to look around for Violet's pretty face which he didn't notice, making it clear that she hadn't arrived yet, After making sure that Violet wasn't around Vasilius quickly took a deep breath before making his hair proper and getting back into his usual perfect posture, the last thing he would want is for someone to see him in such a bad situation.

"No. Actually, I was going to go with someone, but she was busy so I don't have a partner."
She went through the gates with Aljendro. Once they passed through the gate, they passed through an archway with beautiful ivy wreaths. When he came to the ballroom, he couldn't help but be fascinated. It was full of colorful trees. She headed there cheerfully. She took Alejendro's hand and they walked to some flower trees.

"It looks very nice. Isn't it a great theme for spring? Look, these cherry blossoms. They are mostly found in Japan and their blooming seasons vary from country to country. They are also known as Sakura flowers. Look at those Magnolia flowers. It's nice to see them in different colours."

Her eyes glanced at the sandwich board and other tables full of food. Vick made a slight noise when he saw this.

"Vick is hungry. Would you like to come to their dinner table?"

She walked over to the sandwich table. She read the note on the table. Meanwhile, she saw animal masks floating in the air. Then she saw the children starting to rise in the air. She turned to Alendro.

"Wow, I think we found the oddity of this ball."

She tried hard to keep her hair from turning pink. Then she looked at the animal masks floating in the air. She placed his mouse on the table and picked up the pink mask. She placed his old mask on another table and put the cat mask on his face. The moment he put it on her face, it started to rise in the air.

"Ale, come on, this is so much fun."

She cheerfully called down to Alejendro.

Emily perked up and took a moment to process the fact that someone was talking to her. She looked up slowly to see a bony-looking girl standing close to her, dressed in a long dress with a match-coloured mask. Even by her name and accent alone, Emily could tell she was from outside of Hogwarts. In fact, Emily was sure that Beauxbatons was one of the schools she had heard about from passing conversations. With how elegantly she was dressed Emily could easily assume she had someone accompanying her. Maybe she did and was just waiting for a friend to turn up or something...

Emily straightened herself up, not at all bothered by the fact that she was taller than the girl who had just thrown an introduction to her face like it was an interrogation. Being one of the very few tall girls she knew, Emily was pretty much used to this at this point. She fidgeted with the hem of her dress as she mustered up her social confidence. She smiled meekly.

"H-Hello...! Nice to meet you. I'm Emily. I'm a Hufflepuff student at Hogwarts." Her voice squeaked a little when she started talking, having not quite prepared herself properly for social interaction. She was resisting the urge to look away and pretend like she wasn't interested in talking, but her compassion knew she would be foolish to do so. Instead, she let out a subtle breath to gather herself.

"So... You waiting on someone to arrive? You don't look like you're with anybody. Unless I'm mistaken...?" she asked somewhat curiously. She wasn't going to invalidate this girl being on her own when Emily was quite literally doing the same thing.
