---------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------Milo almost jumped forward to catch the rat once he saw the little dude start to topple but refrained when he saw he was okay. He smiled as she went in for a hug and happily wrapped his arms around her back, although carefully to avoid spilling his drink on her gorgeous outfit.
"Yes, it is good to see you too! You look beautiful." He grinned, stepping back a little, he watched her look around. "Are you looking for someone? Maybe I can help?" He asked light-heartedly, not wanting to make a joke out of her height but also being honest that he was a decent amount taller than she was.
"Good! Good." He nodded, "We won with Mahoutokoro in the summer." Milo half said half announced with a somewhat egotistical grin, even though it had next to nothing to do with him.
Taking another sip of his drink, he realised his goblet was oddly warm, although he couldn't complain, his fingers were getting a bit cold in this weather. Upon looking at Serena again, he realised her clothes seemed significantly thinner than his own. "Are you cold? You can borrow my jacket if you would like." He really had been working super hard on his english, and although sometimes he struggled to keep up in conversations, he felt that he was significantly more understandable himself at least.

Rebecca emerged, soggy but victorious, with a bright green apple clutched in his jaws. "Ah ol yooh tho" he dropped the apple into his hands "I told you that I could do it!" Rebecca announced, immensely pleased with himself.
He tossed up the apple and caught it before taking a bite with a satisfying crunch. "That'll be ten sickles, Jannette," he smirked, chewing. The apple tasted sweet, but it burned going down his throat as if it had been dipped in pepper. He thought little of it, and quickly caught the apple Jannette had thrown at him in the hand not holding his own apple.
He scowled a little. "Jannette, I know where you sleep and we're both in a house known for collecting debts. I'll wrangle those sickles out of you sooner or later..." Clearly, he wouldn't get anywhere with this.
He shook his head and continued talking, goading Jannette.
"Your turn now, Applebottom! Care to try and beat me? Or would it be better to surrender now? I mean it would be a little embarrassing for you if you got outclassed in apple-bobbing, but if you already know you're beaten I'd understand completely, though your family might disown you or something in shame." The challenges were spilling out of him as he gestured for her to lean into the bucket, and part of him baulked at how freely he was taunting 'The Niffler.' But he couldn't stop running his mouth!
Violet came up at that moment, apparently having broken away from the other ball-goers to talk to them. She posed a question to Jannette asking how she was doing (but he wasn't sure Jannette would have heard Violet anyway, as it was quite possible she was blinded with rage and indignation. Or more likely she'd have her head in a bucket in the midst of apple-bobbing for her dignity).
Violet was about to ask "What else are you guys do-" when Rebecca interrupted her, unable to stop himself from voicing his thoughts, "Violet! Why do people call you Red?" He shook his head, mystified. "I can't make sense of it, I mean, you've just got to pick a colour, either you're red or you're violet, and if it's because you want people to call you whatever your hair colour is, why don't you just save us all the bloody confusion and dye your hair purple." He clapped his hands to his mouth, turning pink with embarrassment.
"I'm so sorry I don't know what's wrong with me right now" he stammered out, completely mortified.

"O-oh, thank you," Serena replied to his compliment, running her fingers over her hair a little as she brushed it back a bit. She wanted to tuck it behind her ear but also could not for fear of him noticing how pointy they were. Keeping them hidden was pretty much her only tactic, "I urm probably should have dressed more to the theme..." She continued, dismissing the compliment a little since she did not quite believe it.
Looking over the courtyard, she frowned a little before looking back at Milo, "Oh er, yeah. He was supposed to meet me here but I don't see him. He's like a frickin' giant though so he should be kinda hard to miss but maybe he's late? No idea..." Unlike her, Hugh's race was not quite a secret - though her words were a tiny bit of an exaggeration since full giants were significantly taller than him. But in her defence, he was the second tallest person she knew! She did not know anyone other than Quinn that was taller than him!
Serena asked him about Quidditch but frowned a little as an odd sense hit her brain. There was an odd sensation as she started to get a little distracted, with many thoughts surging through her brain. Blinking, she tried to focus on what Milo was saying. "Oh yeah! I saw you guys play," She replied, recalling the quidditch game, "Congrats! It was a good game," It was a belated congratulations but at least she got there, "Sometimes I kinda miss Quidditch and wonder if I should return to the field but I dunno, I don't think I would. I absolutely love broom racing. It's like the best of everything put in a sport - though I guess it also has some of the worst of everything put in the sport but like, I haven't died so that's progress, yanno? Haven't been hit by a bludger- well, you probably don't really mind that stuff, you have a bat to whack it back before it hurts you. Me? Not so much. I just get hit and suffer. Kinda painful on my end of things," Serena started to ramble, speaking rather quickly - more so than usual to him - "Are you looking forward to the Hex tournament?" She suddenly asked as the question popped into her mind. They were here for the Hexwizard trial after all.
"Oh no, I'm not cold! Wait- maybe I am-" Serena continued, pondering to herself. She did not think she was cold but perhaps she was. It was winter, right? Oh, wait, it was still autumn. Why was Hogwarts so cold? She supposed it was further north than London, where she had grown up. Maybe magic made things colder too - who knew! "No no, I'm not cold. Thank you though," She continued, realising that he was offering his jacket - a few moments after he said it as she finally acknowledged that thought. She did not want to take his jacket - what would he wear if he was cold!
Pausing for a moment, she tilted her head a little in thought, "Wait - am I being stood up?" She asked, suddenly wondering if Hugh not turning up meant she was being stood up? Did it count as being 'stood up' if they were going as friends and it was not romantic anyway? Who knew! Not her. Maybe Milo knew, "No, he wouldn't do that... right? You don't know him! Or maybe you do. He's like uh -" She waved around, holding her hand really high up and tiptoeing as she tried to show how tall he was. Frowning a little, she jumped up and continued to wave in an attempt to reach his height of like eight feet - which was something she physically could not do - "Like this tall- no- like taller- like uh. Well he's- uh. Super tall. And uh has hair like-" She waved over her face to indicate that he had sideburns on his face that were rather noticeable.
"Oh wait- am I keeping you from your date? Sorry- look at me just waffling on at you, you probably have things to get back to," She voiced her thoughts out out loud, waving her hand as she put down her empty goblet. She was such a fool! Of course Milo had a date and someone to get back to - look at him! People probably threw themselves at him constantly.

@Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood, Valetin Schnell, @Bloom Silverton, Romeo Marchonné & @Erin RyanOh wait, hold on.
Hol up.
OH GOD.
The pretty girl's fist had completely missed the albino Aida and was instead gunning for him. "Ayeep!" He took a step back, tripping over his other foot and waving his hands a bit before he tumbled backwards and landing on his backside as he hit the ground. Stunned for a second, the boy shook his head. Well, that had been something. He laughed with uncertainty as he glanced back up at Aida and the pretty girl. "Heh... uh... well that was... unexpected." Shakily, he would get back to his feet and then brush himself off with a hum, seemingly no worse for wear at having a punch thrown in his direction. It had been a rather good swing, after all...
The pumpkin began to peel off of the girl's head. Piérre blinked once or twice before rolling the Restoration Draught in his palm for a few seconds. "Huh. Guess it's wearing off... oh well. I mean, they're not intended to last for a long time... but still..." He tossed the phial from hand to hand for a few seconds, shrugging as he held it up to the moonlight and watched the light filter through the opaque liquid. "Never know with those sorts of things..."
Another shrug before his attention refocused on his brother with the other albino, Valetin. He watched as his twin seemed to select a branch from the bush and then proceeded to snap it off. Piérre's brow creased and his lips pulled thin as he watched. What in the heck was he doing? I mean, Piérre knew that his brother was odd, scholarly, a bit of an egghead and a bit of an eccentric when it came to all things books and educations stuff; but that was just downright odd, even for Piérre's standards. He continued to observe the strange crowd absentmindedly, before a small lightbulb went off in his head and the boy withdrew from one of his pants pockets a pair of silk gloves, the same ones that he had worn to the Spring Ball.
Tongue in cheek, the boy rocked back and forth a bit as he divided one glove from the other, brows raised as he flicked his attention back to his brother with intrigue. Yep. Still talking to that albino, still brandishing that thorny rose branch. Weirdo.
With a hum, Piérre rolled his eyes and idly swung the single silk glove through the air, focusing his attention on his brother solely. You see, this wasn't an ordinary white glove. It was called a "Gentleman's Slapping Glove" for a reason. Romeo would feel a sting across his cheeks as soon as Piérre had followed through with his motion. After watching the subsequent reactions, Piérre felt a smug little smile creep across his face, having to bite his lip to prevent himself from laughing aloud and instead turning a light shade of pink with amusement and humor. He snickered to himself as he slipped the gloves away again. "Been wanting to do that. He's so silly." He chirped to himself as he shrugged.
Glancing about, he would scout the crowd for anyone who looked as if they needed a dose of the Restoration Draughts he had on hand to be used. He spotted a few odd personalities and actions in the crowd... but so far... nobody had worked up the nerve to come over... or perhaps did not know that Piérre had such remedies on hand. Pshhhhhttt... so much for trying to be "responsible" for once in his troublemaking career at the school. This was a rare opportunity for everyone involved... and it was likely never going to be seen again.
May as well make the best of it while they could... once the night was out, this "lawfully intentioned" student would be no more.Action: Using Gentleman's Slapping Gloves to Slap Romeo Marchonné (30 ft range, deals no damage)

Maybe this is why he doesn't eat/drink very often, @AngelFyre McCubbin
Once he had gotten his mood at bay (which was a little downtrodden at the beginning) he realized that spending any evening with AngelFyre McCubbin was one that he would look forward to, especially when she looked as beautiful as she did that evening. It was probably once again that unsettling aura trying to show itself but no, not tonight. He had pushed that aside and told himself that it wasn't welcome there of all places and if it wanted to surface at some other place and time then so be it - but not at the Ball. He was determined for this evening to be an enjoyable and unforgettable one.
So with his thoughts now no longer resting on his dhampir maturity and now on his distracting date, he thought of little else but her. How was he so lucky as to be there with her, who took some slow-moving music and made it fun? -Who had a smile that was sheer perfection, that lit up her eyes each time? -Who listened to him so intently.
"Okay, I say we make our way out to the petting zoo area on the grounds. They say it's good luck to pet a unicorn and doesn't everyone need a little luck on their side now and again?" Oh, if only they had gone to the petting zoo a little sooner - maybe they wouldn't be in the predicament they were about to be in.
He didn't even notice when his goblet began to twitch, just a little at first, until it built in momentum as it twisted and contorted into a new shape. Liquid splashed upon his hand and that's what caused Simon to look down to see a rat, larger than Rascal and with sharper teeth and a glint in its eyes. It squealed, very loudly, not appreciating being drenched in whatever the deep red liquid was and clamped down to express its anger on the only thing around - Simon Kincaid's finger.
The good thing about it biting down on his finger is that it was his own blood now dripping within close distance. If it had been anyone else's, Simon might not be able to keep that whole dhampirness at bay.
"What the HELL?" Simon snapped quickly as he pulled his hand away, causing the rat to fall to the ground and as it did so it clambered onto its feet and arched its back to hiss at him again. Simon stepped closer to it, bringing himself between it and AngelFyre in case it should try and lunge forward again. Unfortunately, in protecting her, he was also facing toward the rat and had his back to her as her goblet would begin its information.

It was true enough that Soraia hadn't introduced herself. She had been far too eager to speak to someone who could understand her native tongue. She could speak multiple languages but she always felt more confident speaking Portuguese. Ah well. At least she knew his name now. Raul. A nice name. Soraia waved his observation away, smiling. She'd been about to apologize for not truly introducing herself...when they were interrupted. Soraia could talk to anyone about anything but setting her sight on the girl who had thrown a plate at her schoolmate made her radient grin fade.
She borderline frowned as she glanced down at the arm casually thrown over Agata's shoulder. If her parents could see her now. ❛ Hello. ❜ Soraia greeted her sourly. She did her best to make it sound natural but it was obvious she didn't want to greet the girl at all. ❛ Bestie? What is...your idea of bestie? ❜
She bristled at the upbeat and friendly tone the girl took but didn't want to make trouble. Not needlessly. But she would not stand for foolishness when they were trying to have a good night. She turned to Raul, sighing softly as she did her best to translate their conversation. ❛ She is saying hello. And she called Agata her best friend. ❜ Her gaze returned to the Durmstrang student, sweeping the length of her. From her adorable pixie cut to her...eclectic wardrobe. Any other moment, Soraia would have been happy to befriend her but now she was cautious. ❛ She is a strange girl. I hope she does not linger. ❜

A little picture was beginning to lay itself out quite clearly with each step closer to his friend. She clearly though she’d figured out who sent her the invitation, or at least half suspected she had, and quite frankly Elsian couldn’t fault her for it. Not with the way the other boy was dressed up and quite the match to the little bracelet he’d sent her, which was perfect!
Meant it was all the easier to walk right up to her. He hadn’t needed to fear the other winning the hunt it seemed; annoying in the fact he’d walked this much in fear of her finding him first while relaxing.
It was fine though. Totally fine.
He’d just sleep for a thousand years and skip school to make up for all this effort.
The camera was quick to be slipped away into his bag, alongside the cloak as he plucked out the crown he’d brought. Sliding up behind his friend he made to put the simple thing gently atop the girl's head less he ruin her hair, alas he knew little of what could be considered ruined hair considering his own ‘style’ of eternal bed head and considered ‘better safe than sorry’ the best way forward in regard to this. Softly it was plopped atop her head, the Gryffindor boy giving Aaron a curious look but quick to lose interest in the glory of surprising Queenie and winning.
“Found you, Mad Queen~” He crowed, smugness practically dripping from the boy's tone as gloved fingers pulled away. A simple gold crown now donning the so-called ‘Evil Queen’.
“Guess this means I win, huh Queenie?” He drawled, giving Logan a smug look when she faced him, much resembling a preening cat for all his lazy, drawn out dramatics. “Thought you had the right person? Guess I got you with that fake clue.” The boy teased, raising a hand to point at her wrist and the bracelet. It’d probably seemed like the obvious clue. Too bad the real one had been the walnut box for the story she seemed to also be following, ‘The Princess in Disguise’.
“Thanks for distracting my date,” he joked, throwing the boy a grin, “hope you don’t mind me cutting in but I’ve kinda owed Logan here a dance for, what- 3 years?” A wry side look aimed at Logan accompanied the statement.
There would, of course, be a moment to answer. And while Elsian was rather quick to move on he would listen and perhaps stay around long enough without whining and dragging Logan away to dance and most importantly make horrible jokes with. However, if Aaron wasn’t very chatty, and Logan was quite finished with catching up and talking with her friend, then the lazy Gryffindor would be rather quick to drag the Hufflepuff away with dramatic words and a promise to finally fulfill the dance he had successfully avoided for the better part of 3, going on 4 years.
Oh-
And to tease her of course. What type of friend would he be if he didn't endless tease and rib his friend about her loss? A horrible one! He would fulfill this sworn duty; at least until she threatened him with the slightest inconvenience, and he was forced to cower in fear of any effort or the slightest instance of her fighting back. He would scream at the smallest swat just to embarrass her and he was quite sure she knew this.
He was also sadly about 62.8% sure this would not deter her.

Outfit:
Bubba wished this night could last forever. He was at a ball (something he never thought he'd have occasion to attend), he had (in his estimation) the most beautiful girl there for a date, and it was a beautiful night out. Just throw a couple of rally cars having a thrash around outside and he really would be in heavy. He had very little experience reading women but he thought that the vibes Sam was giving off and the looks she was giving him certainly made it seem like she was feeling the same way. He wasn't sure what love was but he assumed that he had to be feeling something like it at that moment.
The idea of dancing with Sam was enough to push the negative thoughts of making a complete fool out of himself fully out of his mind as he considered it. He may end up being a crap dancer but if he was dancing with her he wouldn't care, and he didn't think she would either. Of course, it would probably be best if he could avoid stepping on her feet whenever they did dance. That would be decidedly sub-optimal and probably make her like him a bit less.
When he had put his hands on her arms he was afraid he might have to catch her. Was she actually swooning? Was that a swoon? Was she going to start having the vapors next? Bubba had heard of a southern belle and Sam may not have been from the south but she seemed to be doing a good impression of one at that precise moment. Still, it probably would've just made the moment even more magical if he did have to sweep her off her feet to keep her from falling. Of course, Bubba wasn't super strong which could open them up to the embarrassing scene of him dropping her, and they couldn't have that.
He didn't see the elusive and clandestine cameraman as they started walking off together but he could tell that something had happened. Sam's eyes came off his and her eyes narrowed but Bubba missed it. It was her fault really, being so beautiful, but his powers of perception were not to be doubted and he frankly wanted to make sure he hadn't broken some sort of protocol he knew nothing about, so he asked, "Everything ok? You look... troubled."
"They did a really nice job with it," he said as he looked around and they walked around the courtyard, "I picked out a few things when I first arrived... before everyone that walked in decided they wanted to talk to me.. it's really neat." She was going a mile a minute now talking it seemed like but he took in every word. When she asked if he liked reading he looked over at her with an amused look on his face, "Like reading.. do I like reading.. we're Ravenclaws liking reading is like a requirement." He joked as he playfully stuck out his tongue at her. "Yes, I do like reading, when I'm home I'll just put some music on and read for hours, clearly haven't read as many fairytales as you though."
Then he thought of the flowers again. He figured he would have to find a florist - a florist what was he thinking? what kind of florist would deliver to Hogwarts - he would just have to pick some flowers on the grounds. Could get a bit difficult in the middle of winter but he was sure he could find something. He then thought of something else to do with reading, "Hell, I even got bored one day and read one of my dad's botany books - mind you, it's pretty dry, but I learned a bit." He pointed to the flower she was holding in her hand, "Do you know what flower this is?" He asked as they continued to walk, "It's called Love-in-a-Mist."

Whatever small amount of filter was in his brain had apparently been removed within the span of a few seconds as the Scantillion Solution's wit-sharpening qualities combined with his already high level of sarcastic humour. Whether his increased absent-mindedness was due to the unacknowledged effects or the excitement of the ball’s activities, Johannes couldn’t have told you. Indeed, it was more than a little obvious that his unenviably chaotic attention span was cut even closer to its limits than usual - a feat in itself - and that his focus was spreading itself thin.
Judge Johannes, Valentin said? Oh, what a title... Had he an actual tail and not simply something fluffy attached to the back of a hidden belt, it would have no doubt been rapidly wagging in excitement at the simple acknowledgement. More dog than cat, this boy. As it were, his obviously growing anticipation made the subtly striped fur sway about in an imitation of such behaviour, even as an increasing amount of his focus went towards self-investigation.
His tongue felt weird. His whole mouth, really, felt strange. Increasingly numb and tingly in its lack of sensation, it was as if he'd taken a trip to the dentist without quite knowing why he was under their tools. At least he didn't have to deal with the inconveniently uncomfortable experience of a headlamp blinding him through the tinted glasses. Briefly, Johann wondered if magical apples had different qualities than regular ones. Was he allergic to apples? Most likely not, but he couldn't cancel out the possibility of magical tampering. Valya did seem momentarily alarmed over something or another...
Buzz button mouth be damned, Johannes was absolutely the fuck not a little bitch. An unreasonably unconcerned Johannes, who would have most definitely been more interested in what was happening to his body had he not been unknowingly dosed up with Scantillion Solution, took another bite between his quiet mutterings. The sheer anticlimax of allergic asphyxiation as a possible fairytale death... It made all of his attempts to tune into his captain's incredibly informative speech difficult, but he did as well as he could.
(Snow White could have had the lamest almost-death ever, even lamer than that poor ref who got the Appleby Arrow's fan arrows banned from Quidditch. But to be fair, with a name like Nugent Potts, being remembered even for an injury was better than his poor birth certificate, which was undoubtedly approved by pushover professionals.)
Cielle, dolled up all Mad Hatter'y (really, it wouldn't have looked very out of place with her normal wardrobe) and with her own apple to boot, seemed to appear out of nowhere by the end of Valya's monologue. Prancing about from within the crowd to deliver upon them another verbal word dump without explanation, she unfailingly took up a role as the second fairytale idiot in our storybook. (In another life, they could have been Tweedledee and Tweedledum because who would be tweedledumb enough to take the appley bait?) Johannes could not properly acknowledge her fluttering, chaotic presence before she was off to harass some poor foreign child that she apparently threw a plate at.
Our Cheshire, who hadn’t the slightest clue what she was talking about and imagined it like an overworked late-night diner employee finally snapping, wondered when (and how) the hell she managed to get into such a situation in the first place. Considering her habits, though… He’d rather not know.
Brushing off the matter in favour of the obviously more prepared conversational partner, Johannes focused back on the matter at hand and took the cue to swap to English, just as their white seeker had done, to Spread the Word. "A brilliant exposition, Snowdrop! Yes, as the 'Honorable' judge of this tournament, your target in quaffle archery -in true fairytale fashion - shall be..." He paused for dramatic effect, stashing his apple into the depths of his bag and passing Valentin a well-loved quaffle, before pulling his top hat from his head in a spinning flourish. The brilliant blue eyes attached to the dark fabric seemed to leave a faint light trail in their wake - perhaps a trick of the light or, equally likely, a bit of leftover magic from too many bluebell flames wasted over late-night preparations. "My hat!" The hat in question was presented upside down to the gathered party, the expectedly dark lining spruced up with little cartoon ghosts patterned over it. "Unless y'all have one of those pop-out football nets on hand, we're going for accuracy over ease here. And as fantabulous of a costume I've got on, this isn’t a game of kitty kicking so don’t hit me!”
(He didn’t know exactly what kitty kicking entailed except for the obvious, but even that option was a horrifyingly cruel thought. Poor meow meows…)
“It'll only get harder for you if you do. And if that’s your goal...?" He turned up his nose in dramatic disdain, a put-upon airiness leaking into his voice as if he, in their position, wouldn't have jumped to hit the human target over a hatted one for the laughs. "Well, that shit's just disrespectful and I'm offended you'd even entertain the thought." His words were at odds with the fact that both Johannes the character and his author could 100% understand why anyone would like to shut him up forcefully, but he had a reputation to keep up.
"And don't worry." Mounting his broom and taking to the air, Johannes took advantage of the decreased height difference to briefly pat Romeo's shoulder in a flippant, vaguely reassuring manner. By saying this, he was most definitely likely to make someone more worried than they were beforehand. "There will be a minimum of physical assault charges against us, at least for now, under my watch. Can't say the same for public defamation, but what can you do about that? No promises!"
Climbing into a better position for targeting, he was more than a little excited for his sweet, sweet role in the tournament of improving Hogwarts' energy. He really had the best job in the entire game, bar actually participating, as he'd basically been given a free pass to ramble on about the goings-on like an overhyped sports commenter. Or that American waypoint of a headmaster. He had no official bugle to blow into, nor the hands available to use one even if he did have one, but situations like these were why he learned how to whistle loudly. To hell with it.
"Honored guests of the Courtyard, let the first stage of the tournament BEGIN!"

“I..I don’t know” She hesitated then laughed, caught off guard. “I know the ‘red’ is because of my hair, but I was named another colour for some reason!” she admitted, playing with her hair, in sudden confusion. “To be honest, I thought about dying my hair, Rebecca. But I also like its natural colour..but maybe I should really dye it violet!” she exclaimed with sudden excitement for the idea.
She realised that Rebecca had clapped his hands to his mouth, turned pink with embarrassment. He stammered out that he doesn’t know what happened to him.
Re-Violet chuckled and said “No worries” attempting to make him comfortable again. “Maybe it's the apples” she shrugged. Suddenly remembering she had an apple just now too, she looked at him carefully, kinda nervous. “Do you think it's the apples?” she asked him. If it was indeed the apples’ fault, what could happen to her then? Would she have the same effects? Whatever the effect that it caused....”How do you feel?” She asked again, coming a bit closer as if she was gonna check if Rebecca had fever, she didn’t for obvious reasons.
“By the way, you can all call me Vee instead if it would make things less confusing”
