Mentions @Howard White a lot
Howard White!

He had done it. He had only gone and done it! His name echoed in her mind even after it was announced. The moment they were all waiting for had finally come - the champions were announced. She stood there, gaping at the headmaster of Ilvermorny as her eyes lit up and a huge grin burst onto her face. Howard White. He said... Howard White.

She had absolutely no idea that he had even put his name in but... it was perfect. He was perfect for this. Of course he was the champion - he really was incredible and it was about time that the school recognised that. Hell, she had no idea if he even realised how truly amazing he was but perhaps now he would.

In truth, she was partially worried. The Hexwizard Tournament - or rather the former version of this very tournament - was not exactly known for being safe. But for the moment, she pushed those worries aside. Her chest pounded with pride, swelling up at the thought of the Hogwarts champion... Nothing else mattered right now.

His special person was of no surprise to her. It did not make her flinch. She had thought they were probably dating again for a while after summer too. Hell, she even encouraged him to ask Falentra as a date for the last ball. She did not necessarily like Falentra but Howard had claimed to love her. So, Serena figured she must have been a decent person even if she could not see it.

The thing was, she was not happy for him because she had feelings for him. She was happy because he was truly perfect for the role. He was one of the best people she knew at this school, after all. Her gaze quickly searched through the crowds, tearing away from the headmaster and ignoring the rest of the announcements.

Nothing else really mattered to her. Spotting him, she smiled to herself as she gazed at him with nothing but pride. The urge to run up to him and hug him overwhelmed her but she did not move. She stuck to where she was, just silently fistbumping into the air and rocking on her feet in glee. There was absolutely no way to hide the happiness and pride she was feeling right now. He had only gone and bloody done it!

"He's bloody amazing, isn't he?" She whispered to the brown rat still on her shoulder, not actually looking at Pizza. Gently, she took him in her palms to stroke him so he did not fall off her shoulder as she rocked in glee. Whilst it was only a whisper, it was still audible to those closest to her.

If Howard did catch her eye in the crowd or happen to notice her - not that she thought he would - she would simply nod and mouth a 'congrats' as she grinned stupidly towards him. Serena would fight the urge to run up to him once more. That would be a terrible idea. Especially if this was the thing that got Falentra and Howard back together again. If it made him happy, she had no intention of getting in the way of that again. She felt bad enough the first time she had apparently gotten in the way of their relationship - though she still had idea why or how. In any case, he did not need her to ruin this for him.

Turning her gaze away from Howard, she glanced over towards Erin, "See? Pretty sure he doesn't need me," She replied before recalling that the girl had also put her name in as champion, "Sorry you didn't get it though," She added. She was sorry. Erin would have been a formidable player, no doubt. However, if there was a choice, she would have picked Howard without hesitation. It was not just his strength or bravery that made him suitable. It was his kindness. He had endured so much crap and overcome so much and yet... he remained kind. The anger and the fear did not overwhelm him.

Her eyebrows raised in surprise, her eyes widened slightly as she heard the name of the Durmstrang champion. Not because she recognised it but rather, because she did not. It was not her brother's name. Serena was not one to be normally feel smugness or gloat or anything but... she could not help but laugh at it. She could not help but feel smug and even more gleeful knowing he had failed. He would be mortified by this, she was sure and it amused her to no end.

Nothing could bring her down from the high she currently felt as happiness and pride surged through her. The champions were perfectly selected. At least, in Hogwart's case. Howard would do well, there was no doubt in her mind. She believed in him far more than most of the school. It was perfect.

"Alright, alright, firewalking time. That sounds... well, terrifying, thanks to Erin here. But hey, we've been through worse, am I right?" She replied to Galton with a smile. They really had been through worse! For starters, half of the school had walked through an actual fire. Okay, maybe not half per se. But at least one quarter of this group had definitely been in an actual fire... maybe more than once. And there was a good chance that most, if not all, of the others had also been in at least one, surely? Maybe these were statistics that she was making up but... nonetheless, she believed them. "First. We do this shit. Then we dance - assuming we can still walk afterwards. Oh gosh, why did we- okay okay, it will be fine," Her confidence derailed as she started mumbling to herself, trying to convince herself it would be fine. Why the heck did she sign up for this? They would be able to walk after this, right?

"Hey - do you think you could hold onto Pizza for me please whilst I do this thing?" She suddenly asked Erin, thinking she probably should not take her pet rat onto a course of burning hot coals... What if he accidentally fell onto it? That would hurt him! And Erin was kind of... her friend now, right? Maybe. Sort of. Serena kind of liked her, at the very least. Then again - she had no idea what Erin had done to other rats in the past.

If Erin did not want him, perhaps Hugh could look after him whilst she did this? Or maybe... she should just set him down on the side of the course. Though, what if he tried to follow her like a fool, in an attempt to save her feet!?!

Roleplaying as Aryaan Shamsi from Mahoutokoro

Character Interactions:
Interacting: @Matthias Pride
Mentioning:
Hiro Bakugo as @Kim Sato | @Bailey Glade | @Winnie Harper
“Hiro, hey!” A sigh of relief at a single familiar face, as he was all but dragged into a conversation with people he did not know. “Aryaan Shamsi, nice to meet you Bai- WAIT WHERE DID THAT COME FROM”

Aryaan was completely sidetracked by the appearance of the boomerang. He’d seen them before, but he’d never really thrown one, far less expected to see one at a ball. “Hiro, that’s super cool, can I see it? Can I THROW it?”

Amongst friends, Aryaan was already relaxing. No point in posturing when the first impression’s already been made. So he might as well enjoy the moment. It was a good decision to make, it seemed. For it was time for the champions to be announced.

Hogwarts had an upper year, probably old in in his late teens, but the name Black sounded familiar. Weren’t Blacks some kind of infamous Dark family? It would make sense that someone from that family would be involved in the spotlight.

The next champion announced was Beauxbatons, a pretty older girl. Hadn’t she won the Broom racing here? Well, failing everything else, he hoped that there was a race element to the tournament just so he got the opportunity to watch her fly.

The Durmstrang champion was a large and imposing boy. For all that people said that Sara was yakuza, this boy seemed a lot more comfortable with how dangerous he seemed. It was so uber cool that he got picked for champion! It would definitely be interesting to see what he had up his sleeve.

The Koldovstoretz and Ilvermonry champions Aryaan didn’t have many thoughts on. Both seemed relatively younger than the others. Perhaps they had something up their sleeve that he was not aware of just yet?

And finally. Finally came the Mahoutokoro champion. Aryaan was actually shaking with excitement. Who would it be? Hadashi? Sara? Akira even?

No.

The Mahoutokoro Champion was Matthias Pride. The transfer student. What?

“Wait, really?

Aryaan’s confusion was only compounded by what happened subsequently. Instead of Pride taking the spotlight in some show of warmth and celebration, the transfer student panicked. Badly.

The redhead looked physically ill, grabbing a chair to keep his composure. Shamsi looked at the boy in concern.

“Dude, you alright?” Aryaan’s voice was low, all business. He’d seen similar looks before Quidditch matches. Nerves maybe?

It appeared that the ginger had heard him, because their eyes met for a second, and –
“He," Aryaan blinked, his hand instinctively shooting up to grab Pride’s wrist, even as the older boy grabbed him by the collar. "him, it was his lot... not mine!"
Perfect. Just perfect. First Pride had run away from the ships upon meeting his classmates, and now he was running away from being Champion. And the Goblet thought that this was the best Mahoutokoro had to offer? A nervous coward?

Righteous anger rose up within Aryaan. Yes, he never took rules seriously, but even he had some pride, something to live for. This cowardice, or nerves, or whatever it was. It would not do.

“What’s the matter then? Outta nerve already?” Aryaan found himself taunting the other boy. “You gonna run away? Transfer schools again and hope no one notices you?”

The brown boy braced himself.

“I don’t know what Winnie sees in you.”
TLDR Actions: Meeting Hiro's new friends. Musing about the announced champions. Meeting Matt Pride and taunting him for cowardice that Aryaan thinks comes from nerves

The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

"Ah yes, you do have quite the love for maps." He would smile politely as the two began to exit the courtyard to head back inside. Their first meeting even consisted of maps. He thought it was quite a strange interest compared to his sportyness, but he wouldn't complain. At least she was interested in the broom sports, now that is what really mattered.

As he and River made their way back into the Great Hall, chaos had seemed to unfold everywhere around them. There were plumes of what appeared to be cocoa powder bursting everywhere, spells were being flung with a student literally on fire, and the hotpot table had now been utterly destroyed. He could see the remains of his lovingly crafted mini Kougelhopf now rolling along the floor, slightly smushed. He should have known better than to have thought this ball would be anything but an utter disaster.

He sighed, deciding to ignore the chaos, and watched as the champions were selected by the Illvermorny headmaster. Beauxbaton's was second to be called, and, in a few moments, his hopes were dashed. He had almost known it certainly wouldn't be him that was chosen, hence why he had decided to change his wish in the effigy earlier this evening. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt the French boy's ego any less. At least he felt that Angélique deserved it, clearly being an adept racer in their interschool broom race this past summer.

Regardless, his typical charming smile would waver, and he would look to River. "Well... that is that I suppose. Angélique is a gifted racer, she surly deserves it." he paused, waiting for any additional commentary from River. If not, he would turn and say, "Well mademoiselle, I must be off, I signed up for Flying Torch Tag. I will be back shortly, I do hope you can find some enjoyment without me considering the... mess that this great hall has now become." He would politely bow to her, and quickly speed walk out of the hall, in an attempt to get away from everyone and everything. Hopefully this little game would distract him enough to make him forget about his not being selected, if only for a few precious moments.

Event Midspring Celebration

Mikael felt a sense of pride overcome him as the familiar orange flames burst forth his wand and toward the masked boy. Though, it seemed his celebration was far too soon. His eyes widened as he watched the masked boy move quickly out of the way of the flames. Mikael gritted his teeth together his brows furrowing as he reassessed his situation. The other was fast something that he had not taken into account. If he were to actually hit the other he would have to be much quicker. Mikael was disappointed to say he had not put much thought into what would happen after he started this brawl. Now here in the midst of it all, he felt a sense of loss that clawed at his mind.

”Weapon!”

The boy felt a spike of adrenaline as he heard Yefim's loud call as it rang through the crowded room. His eyes widened as he saw the glint of something metal in the masked boy's hand. His mouth felt dry as he watched the boy duck low. Seemingly going for his legs. Mikael stepped backward trying to give himself some room to recover. To give himself a chance. The boy froze as he watched Yefim run in front of him. Everything seemed to be moving far too slow. Mikael could do nothing but watch as the firey jet from his wand hit Yefim in his back. Too late to try and redirect the spell to something that did not matter. The fire engulfed the boy at the same time it engulfed his world.

Mikael froze like a puppet whose strings had been cut. His eyes were wide and empty as he stared at the one thing that truly mattered burned in front of him. A child who had lost his comfort object and was left to face the cold darkness alone. No light to guide him. Nothing at all. Was there even anything around him? Or was it merely a trick of his brain? There was nothing for him to do, to see, to feel. All that was left was the cold and dark. He despised how familiar it had become. The absence of light. He used to revel in it, but now after being basked in the warmth of Yefim's presence for so long it felt wrong. The boy swallowed thickly as he watched a god burn.

“Mikael!!”

The boy's gaze slowly moved towards the sound. A call in the darkness. A chance to escape upwards to something more manageable. A possible respite from the creeping dark. Mikael blinked as he noticed Valentin's determined look. His brows furrowed as he studied the other with a confused curiosity. He was not too sure when the boy in front of him had changed. It must have been after their fight. The other seemed more alive. Such a contrast to how he was feeling. Something he wanted to cling to. Mikael raised his wand upwards, not realizing his hand had dropped down by his side. He needed to protect the little bit of light that Valentin had graced him. The small bit of warmth that warmed his cold and tired bones. "Immobulus" he would say his tone tired but determined.

MENTIONS. Yefim, Arjan, Howard (ind).
He had no objections that Aurelia was buttering him up through talk of his alleged charm. “You could stand to tell me more often,” Lysander half-joked, breath hitching in his throat. She was awfully intense gazing like this, except until she stopped. Like before, Aurelia leered at another pair joining the floor, and abruptly ended their own dance for want of food and drink. “...Of course. No problem.” He was getting pretty hungry himself. Bewildered as he was, he wouldn't fight being dragged off to the potluck.

Perhaps food would allow her to open up about whatever troubled her. He squeezed her hand reassuringly. “Anything to your liking?” As for himself, his eyes landed on a plate of samosas. He hadn't the pleasure of trying them before, nor did he know what they were in the first place, but he was a sucker for the occasional fried food. “Question. Has someone here offended you?” Lysander inquired after taking a serving of the Indian dish. “Don't think I haven't noticed. Because if so—hey! Watch it.”

The warning came too late. Forcefully, a goblet crashed to earth, Lysander's effort to catch it all but futile. Stepping out of the resulting red puddle, he shook a fine, leathered shoe clean. The droplets were nothing compared to the mess of Aurelia's dress. Lysander turned to witness the stranger's apology and that of the girl beside him. They were apt, he supposed. Besides the fact that Hadrian would not rectify the blunder himself. “Nonsense, Aurelia. Allow me,” he volunteered on her behalf after retrieving his wand. Scourgify.” In all his focus to cast, he'd missed a particular piece of conversation. Wait, what?

...“Love?” Lysander glanced between Seren and Hadrian with as neutral a face he could muster. The girl looked, well, young, assuming full-human parentage for the two of them. In only under a minute, he was now immensely taken aback, plagued with both Hadrian's shamelessness and the idea of his own half-sister in such a situation. Silently, Lysander would bite into the samosa, as if washing away a terrible taste. Someone keen would notice the subconscious straightening of his posture to seem bigger than the other male. Protective. If Hadrian finally looked back at him, he would find raw, burning judgment.

Firstly, how desperate. Secondly, how did he know Aurelia if he was an American? He had no proof, but it was funny to imagine him as perhaps someone she'd rejected previously. For the sake of civility, Lysander would refrain from taunting Hadrian right then and there. He would, however, take note of the first-year's growing distress and attempt to alleviate it. “No, no. You've done nothing wrong.” Emphasis on you've. “As Miss Notrésvace said, accidents happen.” Although, Notrésvace herself didn't look too pleased. What was going on? Lysander placed a lingering hand on Aurelia's shoulder, a wordless “easy now” if taken as intended. He cleared his throat for Seren. “...But, if it's all too much, I'm certain your... date... will not hold it against you for needing to take a breather.” Indeed, Lysander was now discreetly trying to rescue the poor girl, or at least give her a natural excuse to use for fleeing.

It was decidedly immature, but as Hadrian had disregarded him, Lysander would do the same in return. He downed the food in his hand to Plott taking centre, chatter and music hushing in anticipation. His shoulders visibly sank as Durmstrang came and went with his name notably not among those chosen. “Not the worst choice for Durmstrang,” he whispered to Aurelia after an envious pause, “But still not me. Think I could sweet-talk my way onto his team?” He knew little of Yefim but he was a Russian native, built like a newborn giant, and athletic. Lysander, on the other hand, could only account for the latter. If the rest of the team was composed of wizards like him, Durmstrang would surely reign victorious. He wanted part. Briefly, he wondered if Arjan would be willing to tag team in the endeavour.

“The Hogwarts Champion—do you know him?”

@Wyatt Starkey @Hanako Tone @Percival Rainwood @Miles Thatcher
"Mh? Yes- yes, I am fine! Abolutely." God in heaven, she needed to pull herself together before things got even more awkward.
After looking around the hall, Wyatt agreed to go to the French table with her.

And then he asked Opeila about her relationship with Hanako which was so closely connected to what she used to have with Percival, catching her off guard entirely. Her first instinct was to brush it off, keep the unpleasant memories of emotional breakups and sleepless nights contained, but then she changed her mind. This had been back in first year and the beginning of second year. It was ridiculous to act secretive about it, especially since he probably didn't either.
... But Wyatt didn't know about it so perhaps he did keep it quiet after all....

"Tone... I guess it started with Percival and me. We got together under some awkward circumstances." She chuckled at the memory of their date in the ballroom. "But it was quite nice. That means, until Tone got involved like a little jealous brat, determined to make my life hell. And to convince me that my relationship with Percival was doomed." The young third year shook her head. "First I thought I could just handle it and not let it get to me, I still had Percival. But then Percival started to defend him, brush off the things I told him and it really began to bother me."

Yes. Now she was certain that she was past it. Opeila didn't feel any negative emotion talking about her past with this boy whatsoever anymore. "I think that Tone really pulled the strings there but I had a lot of things going on in my life then and- call me selfish if you like- couldn't handle the stress of having to hold up against Tone and my boyfriend on top of it. It wasn't like I was going to make him choose but some support would have been nice." Opeila shrugged. "Needless to say that Tone and I never got on good terms again, I guess?"

When they reached the table, Opeila examined the food and then took a piece of sausage off a plate. Darn, she had always loved that one and she couldn't even remember anymore when she had been in France the last time. Had to be five years ago soon for sure. "And you?", she asked, once she swallowed the sausage, "You don't seem to like him much either, how comes?"

As the two were talking, a food fight seemed to break lose. Starting with exploding bon bons, an amusing little prank, ending with- a whole table being flipendoed away. Instinctively Opeila ducked when the table, crashed, her eyes widened. "What in the world-?" Really she really couldn't understand people sometimes. Yes, the bon bons were fun, but the deal with the table- now that there were no attacks anymore, were people so hellbent on killing each other themselves?

"Hm. That's a whole lot of food wasted.", Opeila chose to comment, too annoyed to react worried now. This was but a self made problem that could have easily just not been created.
Instead she turned her attention to the announcement of the champions. "Did you sign up?", she quietly asked Wyatt. Her heart beat a bit faster with excitement. Would it be her name?

No. Another familiar though, Howard White. This was fine, Opeila could live with that. As long as it wasn't a little child they threw into the game instead. But some other schools did. Opeila saw a few second years and- was that a first year in on school? For heaven's sake! "They are really letting the youngest ones participate...", she murmured.

Ilvermorny was announced last and the name made her heart skip a beat. "No. No frickin' way." Opeila's smile had dropped and she stood on her toes, trying to find her fiancée to be. "He's a second year, they won't do this, will they?" Opeila couldn't even tell why exactly it bothered her so much. Perhaps it was the fact that she had been so unrightfully mean to him back in winter.
More than before, she felt the need to fix it. She had to apologize or just say something, before he entered that damned tournament.

Of course, the fight would hardly be complete without some idiot deciding it was a smart idea to jump in between a fight to protect the boy also shooting a fire spell. Why were teens so insistent on such foolish things, the body-blocker obviously was from another magical school, emphasis on magical. If he wanted to stop the fight he should've used his damn wand, it was there for a reason, and Selim wasn't arrogant enough to think that his struggle in using magic was a normal phanomana.

Selim didn't have the time to redirect his attack when the taller boy dramatically screamed 'weapon' (One chopstick really hardly counted as a weapon, it didn't even count as a blade). His arm had already been ready to swing and somehow during the weird dance of trying to avoid cutting this random student, avoid another spell from another random student and avoid the fireball that had been shot in his direction, he felt the familiar sensation of metal sliding into flesh. Not cutting, puncturing.

This wasn't good.

Skidding to a halt, the rabbit-masked boy swiftly backpedalled. Glancing over he saw the one who had started it all seemingly briefly in shock, he likely had a few moments before the numbskull started firing spells at him again.

For Merlin's sake, he had different issues to worry about now, but trusting that he'd get sense from a boy whose first instinct was 'set it on fire' and firing one of the most deadly spells these little child soldiers learned was a stupid thing to do.

He'd bet 20 gallons that the boy wouldn't even think to put out the fire he accidentally set on his 'friend' or whatever twisted relationship the two had, he obviously didn't have the brains for that. "Damnit-, what the hell were you thinking-? You have an accursed wand- throwing everything off, I might've hit an artery now, which was not my damn intention." He hissed, doubting the boy that decided to toss his physical health to the wind pointlessly cared, Seeing as how he was currently burning alive, "And now you're burning as a result. This is really all on you. Now I would patch you up but-" His words were blunt, but also filled with a sense of urgency. Yes he would patch him up but, he was on fire, and Selim was in the middle of a fight, and the punch he would've otherwise used to put out the flames was now splattered all over the ground.

Honestly, he'd love if he could actually use magic without it horridly backfiring so he could put it out quickly but he couldn't. "Possible heavy bleeding, burns, high risk of infection, if this cursed fire doesn't get put out he'll get third-degree burns, bringing a whole damn myrid of other issues." His gaze shot up to the other random child that had jumped into the fight with the disarming spell. Pulling out his first-aid kit he tossed it in their vague direction, not particularly aiming anywhere more specific. It would just slow him down to keep holding onto it and hopefully, this one was smart enough to deal with the more immediate issue of someone burning alive rather then flinging spells at him, especially since he had stowed away his 'weapon' for now.

"So before you go flinging more pointless magic at me how about you keep your friend from burning alive. I have other issues to deal with because I doubt-" He snapped harshly- before being cut off by the pyromaniac coming to and already shooting another spell at him before even assessing the situation

Too late, he couldn't do anything else other than throw out that wild suggestion. Trying to roll away from where he had been standing near the burning child, he hissed, expression still hidden under his mask. Frustration mounting, he focused one evading, because he sure as hell didn't want to be an immobile target for a hyper-aggressive Durmstrang student that had decided to likely attempt to, unprovoked, bully some random second-year Hogwarts student.

Well, he wasn't going to do the same disarming trick twice in a row, besides, he was far more intent on evading than attacking now. He hoped this boy would stop for a single moment and actually let him give first-aid the friend he had set on fire with his own damned spell. Selim wasn't able to get a good look at whether he'd hit the artery thanks to that foolish little move the flaming boy pulled, because, well, he was in the middle of being attacked and the boy was literally on fire. He would love to make sure the guy wasn't bleeding out while also on fire.

So, he continued to try and use his agility and small size to his advantage and attempt not to be hit by a spell that would leave him completely vulnerable, and unable to do exactly that.
[If Selim evades]
Luckily he was able to avoid being ensnared. Pausing briefly, he looked at the fallen potluck table, eyes swiftly darting over the spilled contents. He caught sight of something, thankfully, so he quickly dashed over (Which wasn't hard given he had been right beside the table when he had been caught up in conversation), swiping down he grabbed a salt shaker. Unscrewing the lid, he dashed over sweeping the container full fo stinging granules in an arc directly at the boy's face. Not hindered by the lid, the contents would likely be far more concentrated in the improvised AoE attack.

Essentially, this was the substitute for throwing sand in his face, except it'd hurt like hell. Wouldn't permanently damage his vision though, well, unless he rubbed at his eyes before letting the salt dissolve, then it could scratch his cornea.

He was really just trying to keep the boy from continuing to fling attacks at him so he could actually fix the mess he'd partially caused. Binding him was his first choice. If that didn't work he'd try and go for the wand, at least, if he persisted. If that didn't work he'd really have to go on the full attack to try to keep from ending up in the same state as the flaming boy or the same state as he was in many times before; in the hospital wing casually in the throws of an anxiety attack.

He was quite done with being traumatized please and thank you.

Well, at the very least she is not wearing a blanket like a toga or an oversized, cinched shirt. She was wearing white of all colors, probably one of the worst options to wear to a ball. The smoke, grass and blood stains alone were a sufficient reason to choose something else entirely. If nothing else, Erin cleaned up well. A gold-colored bangle on her left wrist and a pair of diamond stud earrings that were nearly invisible gave the part Veela a rather understated presence in comparison to some of the more elaborate choices in attire some of the other girls donned.

She felt tall at the very least, wearing a pair of wheat-colored wedges that added four inches to her already appreciable five foot five frame. She was thing, but she did not appear sickly. Her long, blonde hair was simply pulled back from her face, wisps of unruly strands of hair would frame a seemingly clean face. Little did she know and little had she prepared herself for a food fight that would be taking place on the first and potentially only ball that she bothered to clean herself up for. Balls such as the Blossom Ball are known for their chaos and she would not miss the disaster for the world.

"The food isn't poisoned, silly Erin. I would be sooooo dead if it was."

Galton claimed. He made a point. He was very much alive, a true phenomenon that defied the laws of probability. She looked at him doubtfully. "I know the food is poisoned because my uncle paid for it to happen," she muttered, looking away. There was a reason her extended family had a thing against eating Hogwarts food, something that stayed with Erin even in her sickest of states. "You forget, you forget you forgot even, the food is dangerous." She iterated clearly. It was the first time she had admitted why she knew, not exactly what she knew but there was a basic idea. "Also, how many times do you all need to be dosed with love potion at a party," she reminded them.

What's really wrong with 'love'? Well, not much in her opinion. be happy even if it is for a few moments. even if the sentiment is not real, there is a sort of joy that comes with even a false sentiment being requited.

Lazarus Plott would make an announcement --

When the champions were named, Erin gave pause. She tensed in anticipation, in truth she fully expected to hear her name called. Yet when it came to Hogwarts, she would hear another name -- Howard White. With the declaration of Hogwart's Champion, Erin stood there dumbfounded. Why him! He was not even human (pot meet kettle once again), not was he of even relatively decent pedigree. What sort of representation was a dhampir like Howard White. "This is ridiculous," Erin complained as she looked over at the pallid Hufflepuff. "Just open the windows or make some garlic bread," she muttered. Hogwarts was a wash, no doubt about that. And yes, Erin was going to sulk about it until she was distracted.

"He's bloody amazing, isn't he?"

Serena had the complete opposite reaction to his name being called. "Bloody, maybe," he was a dhampir after all. She crossed her arms over her chest stubbornly. She had no idea who Falenta was, sounded like another vampire name she reasoned. Merlin, weren't there enough weirdos in this school? Should have been Serena, she tans at the very least!

"See? Pretty sure he doesn't need me," Serena pointed out a reason she could not quite gather. Because the goblet had made a poor choice? Because a not-bald Bloom was dancing the night away.

"Bloom was no Falenta," Erin pointed out if this was some romantic 'need' that she was need needed for. "Sounds like a vampire name, maybe his mom," she shrugged. No way a teenage boy put his mother's name in the goblet as their 'special person.'

"Sorry you didn't get it though," Serena recalled that Erin placed her name in the goblet.

"Yeah, he is going to get himself killed," she mused. "Lucky bastard," she conceded. She did not have the capacity to hate, not really. She did not even have the capacity to be fully, truly disappointed. It just was a possibility, something she had anticipated being and had aspirations of her own. The fact that she was not chosen did not strike at her deeply, although perhaps it should have. There was nothing much belong the peachy surface of Erin Ryan.

That was until she heard the Durmstrang Champion, Yefim Rumyantsev. She did not know his name, in fact her only meetings with him involved violence and broken English (on his part) that was so heavily accented she was not entirely sure what information was shared between them if any. She had no qualms with him, he was entertaining and a diversion from the stoic youths from the region but she did not know his name. Yet apparently he knew hers. She would hear her name called after as his 'special person' a probable, likely jest she awaited correction. "Who the hell is Yes-from Rummage-tag?" She announced out loud, the onomatopoeia of someone clearing their throat. "And if I am special, why the hell aren't we making out!" Yes, priorities... Yefim would soon learn how 'enthusiastic' the part Veela could be.

Serena was already on a tangent about walking on fire. Another important topic assuredly. She would get drawn back in when she was offered a rat. A sorta pudgy rat, well-fed, 'chonky.'

"Hey - do you think you could hold onto Pizza for me please whilst I do this thing?"

"What Pizza?" There was no pizza in her hands, just a rat. "I can hold the rat while you get pizza I guess," she conceded. "I need to make out with whoever this guy is," she concluded. "I can take the guard rat," protection or distraction really. "If I find pizza I will get you some," not like she was going to eat it. "Probably should not eat pizza and walk on fire," she recommended. Wise words from Erin - don't wat pizza while on fire.

If granted Pizza Rat, she would call him Julius in her head. She, no they would look for Yefim, there were certain rights of passage that they were required to undergo. So she would walk towards the chaos, possibly with Pizza unless Serena's senses got hold of her in time and Erin would shout -- "where is Yet-him, I need to make out with him!" she was trying, Merlin was she.

If pointed out to her she would approach him and make demands to make out or complaints about why they are not and have not in a separate post (feel free to god mod Holmwood, she is shameless). If on fire, she would extinguish him one would suppose. She can't let him burn up. Extinguo it is.

Just a trick of the lighting they said...

Playing as iNPC Yefim Rumyantsev
Things were happening. First, he got in the way of the attack, then he was set on fire. While obviously it would have been ideal if neither of them got hurt and he wasn't on fire, Yefim did not deal in ideals. He was a man in reality, a force of nature. The reality was, Mik and Niff were trying to help him to the best of their ability, so he was happy. There was no greater feeling than that of a true bond, he could be no more mad at them than he could of his own arms or legs. Since everything was meant to be, their foibles as well were a building block to the future. Therefore... he was supposed to be on fire.

Fire was hot, sure, but pain was an illusion of the flesh. What mattered was the soul, and fire could not burn that away. What mattered, as the sounds of the current conflict became dwarfed by the loudspeaker voice of one of the old people, was the name of the Durmstrang champion. Wreathed in flames himself as though a portent of his divine purpose, he heard his name vibrate against the cold walls, shaking down to the foundation. What a feeling. When chasing impossible heights, one can occasionally glance into heaven, and he was certain he had ascended for a short moment.

Sure, more food was being thrown at him, sure he was bleeding and on fire, we know, okay. Instead of heeding any of the words of the bunny boy, Mik, or Niff, Yefim would be entranced by his own destiny. There was another name that had been read, Howard White. Hogwarts. Dhampir. Quidditch punch guy that made Niffler cry. Yeah. Enemy.

Regardless of if he was put out (anyone feel free to help point Erin in the right direction) or healed (Valentin feel free to godmod him stopping for a moment for some schnell healing,) Yefim would walk directly towards the Hogwarts champion. He knew what he looked like, he had a good memory for names and faces, especially those from the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. Once close enough, he wouldn't stop for banter, he'd just spit in his face.

Yefim's name was called as Durmstrang's champion and he couldn't help but laugh. He had been selected over Arjan. He was deemed worthy and Arjan had not been. This should have been the best day ever, but his night of fun was seemingly cut short when all of the sudden the table he and his girl were trying to take cover under was tossed into the air and the contents begin to rain down onto the trio. Cain was quick to react, diving to cover both the Swede and American with his shimmering avian robe. Although Felix would still get pelted with chocolate dust from the bon-bomb, soups, and other various dishes, the young Slytherin would take the worst of it.

"S-Shit! Poe! You okay?" He wasn't sure why he asked such a dumb question, it was obvious the kid was hurt. His eyes darted around, looking for the cause of the flipped table. His eyes would land on the ginger kid who decided some spat was worth ruining everyone's evening. He was already being screeched at by some banshee of a girl. Most might have assumed that was a punishment in itself, but Felix liked to help karma out.

Usually he was able to keep his cool in situations like this. Had the food just scolded himself, he likely would have just made a snide remark and walked away, but the scrawny ginger had decided to hurt Poe. To hurt Ret. "Ret... Take Poe to the first aid tent." He wasn't asking her if she wanted to, but he didn't want the kid or Ret to see what he was about to do.

He stood up, attempting to brush a layer of food off of his suit jacket. At least he had an excuse to never wear the damn thing again. He was still gripping his wand from his earlier spell, and started to approach his target. "HEY YOU, the walking talking half a matchstick looking dumb fuck." Yes he was making fun of his form. At 5'8" he had a few inches on the guy, the Swedes made their kids quite large. "You think it's funny to hurt girls and kids? I'll show you fun-- What the hell?!" The kid suddenly started to vomit and Felix jumped backwards, his nose wrinkling in disgust. The fuck was this guy going through? Whatever, he wasn't against kicking a man while he was down, especially if said man had messed with Ret.

He was readying himself to cast again when the boy started to babble, something about how another kid had put his name into the goblet. He even tried to grab the poor guy. Seriously? Ugh, why did he always have to be the hero in these situations? Clearly he simply more sane than 99% of wizarding society. "Oi, ginger gumby! I'm not finished with you. Since you interrupted my night, I'll gladly interrupt yours." He growled, stepping forward to attempt to grab Mathias or at least pull him off of the younger boy. He was a duellist, not a physical fighter, but he didn't want to end up accidentally hitting someone other than his target, so he needed to separate them first.
