█Ah, another Hogwarts ball. To Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin, this meant another chance to hang out with her friends, wear the least formal clothes she could think of, and hope that the castle didn't cave in. After all, if the Samhain Ball's venue had fallen down, why should this one be any different? Ah well. Someone would have done some sort of risk assessment beforehand, right? ...Right?
Risk assessments aside, Cassie was looking forward to it. As with the last ball, the International Student Squad, as they'd called themselves, were all going together as one big group. Well, not as big as they could have been. Scar was still at Godric's Hollow, the slacker (okay, Cassie admitted that Fiona's health came first, but it had been ages since they'd seen each other), and Ayu was still at school, having not been able to come. So, it was just four of them: Cassie, Charles, Drew, and Ro. They'd decided on a group costume again, but this time it was maybe a little more obscure than the slightly obnoxious Power Rangers outfits they'd rocked up in last October. Yes, this was more subtle. Or, it was supposed to be. Cassie had scrapped any suggestion of subtlety the moment she started flinging paint at her face.
Yeah, paint. Okay, maybe a bit of explanation is required.
Although it looked like the Squad were all in casual clothes, they were really doing something of an outfit-swap. Ro was dressing as Drew; Drew was dressing as Charles; Charles was dressing as Cassie, which Cassie was looking forward to seeing; and Cassie was dressing as Ro. Which, Cassie had decided, meant one thing: paint. Ro was barely ever seen without any paint on her trademark flannel-and-top combo, which meant that Cassie had to completely cover herself in the stuff.
'Overboard'? What does that mean?
Charles, Ro, and Cassie met up in the campgrounds, where the international students had been housed, beforehand so as to enter together. This meant that Cassie got to fully take in Charles' representation of her without anyone else in the way. He'd chosen a pair of jeans and a Batman t-shirt which Cassie was fairly sure she owned a duplicate of. There was also the silver jacket which Scarlett's Aunt Fiona had given to Cassie this time last year when the two girls had gone to that Blossom Ball as Apollo and Artemis respectively. It had been enlargened to fit Charles through the use of a spell but Cassie was still wary about letting Charles borrow it. Cassie had been expecting this part of Charles' outfit, though, since she had loaned him the jacket. What she hadn't been expecting was the wand holster that was uncannily similar to the one which Cassie herself was wearing around her waist, tucked under her flannel shirt, or the brown shoulder bag that held a resemblance to the one which Cassie had worn to the last few balls (this time she'd replaced it with a small backpack).
Cassie probably shouldn't have been suprised that Charles had gone all-out, though, because she'd done the same. The checked shirt had been a no-brainer, and to complete it she'd splattered some paint on it, which she was probably going to have to rely on magic to clean off. Then she'd chucked on a white shirt she had left over from the Holi event (Cassie had cleaned it and was now regretting it, along with not thinking to wear the paint-covered bucket hat from Holi now) and laced up a pair of trainers which she'd drawn on with various colours of Sharpie. Her wand holster was buckled around her waist (after all, Cassie needed her wand in an easily accessible place) before it was time for the main event; the final touch. Which was paint splatters, all over Cassie's face. Even now, Cassie wasn't sure whether it looked artistic or just messy, but she didn't mind either way. Her hair was left down, straight and brown as usual. Cassie had considered temporarily dying it red or even getting a wig, but thought that might be a little too far. Plus, wigs were itchy. The look completed, Cassie had slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed out to meet her friends.
And now here she was, walking into the Great Hall with Charles' arm around her shoulders, laughing with him and Ro. "I think the better question would be whether or not the ball won't end in chaos!" she pointed out. "Also, you're going, so..." The light-hearted teasing appeared to go all ways if Charles' comment about Drew being late was any indication, and Cassie laughed a laugh that was intensified when Charles elbowed her in the side and ran off to the food table. "...And he makes a beeline towards the food," Cassie commented to Ro, taking her backpack off and unzipping it. From it, she took out a clear box full of various types of crêpes, which her Papa had sent her for the pot luck table. She made her way towards said table, only for Charles to call back a dare in Ro's direction. "If you get so much as a DROP of that sauce on MY JACKET- ooh, kebabs!" Having found her attention caught by some skewers of grilled meat and vegetables - @Mathias Pride's Souvlaki, not that she recognised them as anything anything other than 'kebabs' - on the pot luck table, Cassie claimed two of them (after placing down her box of crêpes, of course).
While Cassie munched happily, Charles decided to tease Ro about lipstick. "Hark who's talking," Cassie chuckled through a mouthful of chicken. "Is that eyeliner?" She was about to point out that Charles was supposed to be dressing as her and eyeliner didn't really make sense with that, but remembered that she'd taken some liberties with her own costume, what with the wand holster, so she couldn't really talk.
Charles then suggested that they go and see what was outside. Cassie nodded at the suggestion. "That sounds good. Ro?" Drew would be able to find them outside if he hadn't found them already.

With the ring placed on his finger, Galton the Glorious was complete. The one ring to tie everything together, to make him the spitting image of a well-cultured young man. On his right pinky finger snugly sat his brand new Much Mustachio Ring. The effects of this ring left the teen with the mustache he'd been dreaming of. He was so close to being able to grow one of his own, he just needed a little more time... Like 6 months. But the ring had filled the mustache-less hole in his heart. As he gazed into the mirror he saw perfection. A true mustache for such a grand occasion.
Besides his vogue new facail hair, Galton had prepped himself for whatever the ball might have in store. For once he had chosen to actually wear something occasion appropriate - dress robes! He had some choice accessories as well, Gentleman's Slapping Gloves, a pocket stuffed with Sherbet Lemons, a pair of dancing shoes slung around his neck and a Robe of Useless Items to top it all off. Galton thought the name was quite unfair though. You could always find a use for the items you pull out of it. And for how turbulent balls were, he needed to be prepared.
Walking into the ball the rush of aroma was intense. It smelled wonderful. It drew him in, calling his name like a siren of the sea. If there was a place to be, it was by the food tables. Damned be whatever he planned to do! Sign up for a game? Meet someone? No, he was already on his way to the food. And he had no idea where to starts! Should he start with the most colorful dish? A savory looking one? Or maybe something sweet? You could never go wrong with that. There was just so much to choose!
As he picked up a plate to begin his feast his eyes locked onto the reason he was truly here. His ball buddy had already arrived! The girl he had saved Erin with, Serena. And she was holding a box of delicious looking samosas. He began to salivate just looking at them. But who was the dude? Possibly a date? It didn't matter.
His ball buddy was practically begging him to come over. And with the fact that Galton was originally going to try to find her, it was perfect. "Hey! Serena! Thanks for meeting me here. I knew you wouldn't stand me up." Even though they hadn't verbally agreed to meet each other, he was sure she knew this was the inherit plan. He smiled to the girl as he plucked a samosa from her and placed it on the plate. "I think we're gonna have a lot of fun, I planned a bunch for us to do!" He took another samosa and bit into this one. As he chewed he turned his attention to the tall student she was with. He had seen the dude around, but knew almost nothing about him. "So, tall guy, you want in on this date? The more the merrier I say." He took another bite as he waited to see what the two would say.

Henri's smile faltered slightly at Faye's distant reaction as he slowly dropped his hand, obviously displeased that she had not return the polite greeting he'd offered. His cold grey eyes glanced back and forth between the two girls in front of him, his expression indescribable. What was his cousin thinking, bringing such an unmannerly person as a date to the ball? He could forgive the slight misunderstanding of his native language, but surely she could do better than this plain Mudblood with poor social skills, or at least taught her proper etiquette. Henri couldn't believe Regina wasn't afraid of being seen with someone like Faye Simmons, it was entirely uncharacteristic of her.Interacting with @Faye Simmons, Regina Miller, @Lindsey Springhall, Maximilien de Fontoscy

Lovely Creature & Charmer is in use.
The Bourbon Heir scrutinized the light blush on his cousin's cheeks with narrowed eyes.“Oh, you’re Regeena’s cousin? Mint! Rad! Astounding! She talks about me? She led me to believe that she hated me.”
"Hm. Curious, indeed."
This was exactly what Henri had expected when Regina had revealed in her letters about making new connections. They used to share the same thoughts, the same ideals, but it seemed that the darkness the ravenette once had inside of her was slowly being chased away by the light of this very red-haired Mudblood. Pitiful. Henri had always believed Regina to be different from all of those weak-hearted fools. Perhaps he was wrong.Elle est pris dans l'affre de l'amour. Dégoûtant. She's caught in the throes of love. Disgusting.
The arrival of the Fontoscy Heir and Henri's date for the night shook him out of his thoughts, and the blond put on his most disarming smile as he turned around to come to face with Maximilien dressed in an impeccable sleek black suit, and Lindsey Springhall in an ethereal white gown that could put the robes of the Christian angels to shame.
"Bonsoir, Maxi. Tu es également aussi beau que jamais, merci, Evening, Maxi. You're also looking as handsome as ever, thank you" Henri returned the compliment at once, his gaze falling onto the brown-haired beauty and gleaming with mirth--like a child who'd just discovered a new toy. "And this must be the lovely cousin I've heard so much about."
Taking a step forward as his friend introduced himself to Regina and Faye, the Bourbon Heir gently took hold of Lindsey's hand and let his long elegant fingers caressed her skin before lifting it to his lips to plant a soft kiss on her knuckles, his grey eyes never leaving her brown hues. It was a traditional form of greeting within the Pureblood community, of course, so on the outside it might not seem as though Henri had any ulterior motives with the gesture. But he did shot her a flirtatious wink.
"Henri Charles de Bourbon, such a pleasure to finally meet you," He purred, ever the charmer. "I must say, Maxi's description of you is a complete understatement. You are even more beautiful in person."
It was a half-lie--he had seen better looking young witches with more distinctive features than plain brown hair and eyes. Truthfully, if it wasn't because he needed to maintain a good friendship with Maximilien and to keep up a flawless image of a gentlemanly Pureblood Heir of the House of Bourbon, Henri wouldn't have settled for someone who wasn't a beautiful creature such as him, but as the situation demanded for him to play nice, he supposed he was going to have to do his best to charm Lindsey.
"Shall we leave the others to their evening and enjoy our own?" He suggested, purposefully letting his touch linger before dropping the Hufflepuff's hand. "Would you like to taste some of the delicacies, or would you prefer a dance, ma lady?"

Olive was still standing in the center of the room, looking fondly at the decorations and loveliness of the ball when she heard a voice from behind her. Turning around with a soft smile on her face, she suddenly felt self conscious, but all that was quickly forgotten when she saw Miles again. "Not long at all Mr. Thatcher," she replied in a tone matching his formality.
"Doesn't the ball look so beautiful? It's probably the most welcomed I've felt since coming, especially with the Durmstrang debacle." Thankfully she hadn't been hurt during the few fights that had broken out upon the arrival, but she had been startled and quite a few nasty things had been said to her during that time. She didn't know if Miles had been mixed up in the mess, but she hoped that he hadn't been. Offensive or defensive side both.
"I feel like I haven't seen you at all since we arrived, how have you been?" Olive found that talking to him was easy, even after not seeing him for a time. It was just as easy as it had been on the foggy morning when he had asked her to the ball.
There was a moment of silence that fell between the two before she found her voice once more. "Didn't you promise to teach me to dance?" she asked with a slight smile. "I think now is as good a time as any, don't you?" She looked Miles in the eyes and awaited his response. This was her first time attending a ball, so she wasn't sure exactly how to go about doing things. She hoped she was doing all right so far.

Simon’s voice was soft and inviting, even hypnotic, as he recited A Red, Red Rose by her homeland’s most famous poet, Robert “Rabbie” Burns. AngelFyre was still amazed at how easily he could take her breath away or touch her so deeply that her eyes could become liquid pools in an instant. She did not bother to blink to hold them back, but to her great relief, they danced on the thin edge of spilling over and simply lingered on her waterline, turning her sea foam colored eyes into actual liquid, sea foam pools. She knew they had to be sparkling because Simon’s eyes, while dry, were themselves reflecting the glorious fireworks dancing across the invisible ceiling above their heads. She watched him carefully for any signs to glean whether he was reciting this poem only because he knew it and the roses surrounding them brought it to mind, which was absolutely wonderful if so, or if perhaps in memorizing it, he had also become familiar with the true meaning of the poem. The answer eluded her as his voice and manner gave nothing away. It surprised AngelFyre, and rather delighted her as well, to be reminded that there were still so many things to discover about him. Still, in that moment, she would be lying to herself if she did not admit that she hoped he knew….really knew…what he was saying and meant it, even if only a little.
As he continued his romantic recitation, AngelFyre could do nothing but watch him and feel herself falling ever more deeply in love with him. How could she not? Who but Simon would check for thorns before offering a rose to his date? Who but Simon would think to put it in her bag, presumably so as not to muss her hair? And who but her debonair dhampir would think to press his petal soft lips to her shoulder after removing her bag and setting it aside so they could draw close to each other and hold each other and dance?
He had her completely under his spell.
Her life, with Simon in it, was so often like a dream. Richer. Brighter. Everything was Technicolor. Everything was just… more… but if that ‘more’ ever became too much, she knew that together they would be able to handle it or anything that would ever come their way. She found it rather ironic that they found each other at a school of magic, and yet, the magic between them was nothing that had to be taught or learned. Their magic was real. Their magic would be real in the world of magic and it would be just as real in the world of muggles.
Relaxing in his strong but gentle embrace and moving in rhythm to his body, AngelFyre rested her head in the crook of his neck and simply followed his lead. Breathing in with him. Breathing out with him. Breathing in. Breathing out. Breathing. As one.
And with every silent step they took, AngelFyre fell still deeper and deeper.

Well... she had finally made it. If nothing else became of this night, or even this visit to the UK, at least she could say that much. She didn't need her brother, or Ella, or a date, or anyone else. Her feet had carried her from their lodgings, across the grounds, through the courtyard, and past the grand double doors of Hogwarts castle towards the celebration that waited within. It might not exactly have been a direct route, and her steps may have faltered, doubling back on more than one occasion as anxious thoughts ruminated within her mind and suggested time and again that no one would miss her if she just... didn't. But that little voice at the back of her mind had propelled her forwards, casting down the doubt and worries and turned herself about each time she had begun to retreat. And now... she had made it.
Hands clenched nervously at her sternum, fingers playing with their counterparts or tugging at the little leather braid about her wrist. She took a step inside, lifting her head to the sky—no... ceiling, she had to remind herself—marvelling at the colours as sunset spilled its paints across the airy canvas. Banners hung at regular intervals, Durmstrang among them. That was a small comfort, at least. The rabbits flopping haphazardly in her core settled ever so slightly with that sense of welcome. And she couldn't help but feel uplifted by the shear volume of flowers. They were everywhere! The corners of her mouth uplifting as her eyes wandered over every inch, she turned as she walked, subconsciously throwing caution to the winds as little regard was given to the direction of her path or blind spots with her focus fixed in awe upon the enchanting floral displays.
But it wouldn't be the flowers that would hold her attention. The centre of the room had been cleared and arranged for the most important display of the night: the Goblet of Fire. She had been far too nervous to step foot anywhere near the goblet previously. Students of all schools had seemed just so eager to cast their names into its flames, to put themselves up for judgment and step up as champion if called to do so. Not her. Greta wasn't very strong. Or big. Or smart. She had been called skilled in duelling, but that was only if there were others to back her up. Alone, she doubted she would stand much of a chance. She wanted her school to win. To hear the cheers and the smiles of her peers as Durmstang rose above the rest and proved themselves—as she knew they would—the most capable. But if she had put in her name? Had been called? She would never forgive herself if she was the reason for their loss. So she had stayed far and well away.
She approached it now, though. Like a siren's call, it beckoned her forward, and her steps obeyed. It was... smaller than she thought it would be. Yet no less impressive with the design of its cup and the sheen of its polish. How many parchment clippings had it swallowed, she wondered? Who would be spit back out? Niche, probably. He would have been a good selection. Composed, tall, capable, brilliant. Who better to lead their school to victory? For a moment, she entertained herself imagining how gallant he must have looked casting his lot into the flame. He probably hadn't even given the rest a passing glance. What she would have given to spy his paper before he had, though... To see who he'd selected as his special person...
Heat rose up her neck at the thought. She was probably kidding herself... no doubt he would have written Ella down, but... Greta couldn't help but secretly hope her own name might have been on that paper... A second little voice spoke up then, speaking the name of a second boy she knew. Had Theo entered his name as well? Had he written—
A shout nearby pulled her from her fantasizing and she turned to see a commotion breaking out. Hand lowered from where they had found purchase on her cheeks to hide her blush and clutched tentatively at her sternum once again. A pang of guilt struck like lightning at her core as she identified the culprit of the chaos: Yefim. Covered in soup and goodness knew what else, there was at least one girl glowering at him, her gown a complete mess. How in the world had something happened already? The night had barely even begun!
Eyes darting around for anyone familiar, and to make sense of the situation, Greta noted the nearby presence of several of her schoolmates. Trotting forward on tip-toe, she skirted through the crowd and made a round-about way nearer to the confrontation, coming up upon one Der Niffler from his flank.
"What is going on?" she whispered in the Russian commonly spoken at their school, fingers plucking at Valentin's sleeve to catch his attention. "Is he fighting already? He's going to get us in trouble!"

Judith walked into the great hall, in her blue, far to overdone dress. She was happy she could make it, but she felt very overdone. Her mom had sent her the dress, which was easily noticeable that she thought far to much about the ball than Judith ever did. At first, she just wanted to go in school robes, but when her mom knew about it, she had owled her a dress within a week. She wasn't sure what she was about to do, all alone, in a huge dress.
If there was something Judith wasn't the best at, it was dancing. She loved dancing, but she always thought she was quite horrible at it, as the only proper thing she could dance was the Hora. Because she danced it at weddings all the time, but proper dancing? At the thought of dancing, she started laughing and smacked her hand against her forehead. "dancing, what are you thinking, you don't even have someone to dance with." she said to herself. She looked around at the beautiful room, filled with students who are entering the ball. She walked over to the side of the room, standing against the wall. Not really knowing where to go or what to do. As she was trying to find someone she could talk to, a friend, or maybe family. It didn't really matter, just someone.

Selena walked slowly into the Great Hall. It had been completely transformed into a place fitting for a ball to be held in, and she wanted to take every little detail of it in. She wanted this to be a night that she would remember for years to come, and she had the good feeling that it would be such a night.
Just a few days ago, she had reconnected with an old childhood friend who had come with his school: Ilvermorny. They had met when they were just six years old in Massachusetts, but had written letters back and forth ever since. They had met back up face to face a few days ago and though it had been a long time since seeing each other, they had found that the friendship had not been broken over the years. Grayson had asked her to the ball and she eagerly accepted.
She had been looking forward to it for those few days with excitement. Now, she was looking around for Grayson with a bright expression. She had decided on wearing a light blue dress that had a twisting pattern all around it, with gold shoes, a flower halo necklace, and her hair was lightly curled with a few white flowers in it. She waited for him, standing near a wall with hope for a memorable and fun night ahead.

Selim glanced over as he saw another resident playboy insert himself into the argument, cry some crocodile tears, and then try to pull the emotionally manipulated girl away.
Honestly, the whole thing was beginning to look like a soap opera and it was making him physically nauseous. So, the third year made to walk away and continue wandering around like a lost ghost, only to be interrupted by the sight of someone who actually noticed him. Honestly, this was a first for Selim, no stranger has actually bothered to approach him during these frivolous-turned-deathtrap events unless he was committing some 'sin' in the eyes of naivety.
They asked him a question, about his mask, and then went on to say it reminded him of a... book? Selim didn't know what the boy was on to make such an odd comparison, but he easily disregarded it in favour of answering. "Leather and cloth, hand-bound. Tanned it myself, and decorated it with ink and natural paints." He replied promptly, his tone professional as he spoke about his art. Cocking his head, the formal-seeming boy looked the other student over, his more flamboyant outfit fitting with the theme of the ball then a doctor's coat with some hastily-thrown together pieces of a suit.
Not that Selim ever bothered fitting in with the themes of balls, except perhaps that one Halloween masquerade where Erin Ryan punched him and scarred his face with his own broken fragments of his mask.
That was quite an interesting night, and one of the most stressful. His jaw got fractured, for one, and a particular now-dead Ravenclaw was in a flurry, tending to a girl that didn't actually seem to care about him or a once-dormmate of Selim's.
Oh, and there was that Gryffindor there that was making everything worse, he couldn't remember their face or their name though, just that they were there. Idly, Selim wondered if he'd be dead as well if Ryan had actually managed to punch him in the face properly and not just give him a glancing blow thanks to his evasive skills.
Yes... his evasion had probably saved him a lot of grief, too bad one can't dodge toxic gas.
Raising a fist up to his mask, the boy coughed into it, a light fit hitting him and causing him to lean on his cane for support. After it passed, he gave himself a few moments to catch his breath, before straightening. "Pardon me, those fits just happen sometimes." he cleared his throat, then dipped his head in greeting, "My name is Selim... Shimada, and you?" he inquired politely, posture straight as he observed the other boy without a hint of judgement. Still the slight hesitation over his last name was a tad odd.
Selim was in a place where he wasn't sure what name he wanted to keep or change, it was rather hard to question your own identity in such a way. It also made introductions rather awkward sometimes.
His mask hid his eyes from view, largely, but occasionally a glint of amber colour shone out from its shadows. While he was never keen on being social, the Shimadas had reforged him in the flames of 'acting like a proper pureblood' after the sorry state they got him in. So, here he was, talking with a stranger. Kazuo would be so proud of him...

Somehow, without actually being present, his mother had influenced his outfit for the ball. It stemmed back to when he had sent his girlfriend a present for her birthday. He had truthfully spent quite a bit of galleons on her present, an outfit for the ball. His mother, who he swore sought every opportunity to make him miserable and pounced on it, had bartered with him; she would buy the muggleborn girl the presents if he wore something other than one of his roughed up leather jackets to the ball. The Kolbecks had a reputation to uphold, after all, and with the announcement of the Hexwizard tournament, all eyes would be on Hogwarts.
So he agreed to wear a suit. Someone had intricately embroidered the jacket with a floral pattern using gold thread. He had pinned a sunflower boutonniere to the jacket lapel. It seemed to be the only thing that matched him to his date for the evening, as the rest of the suit was nothing special and was completely black in colour and shade. In one hand he carried a box that held a corsage for his Southern belle, in the other he carried his potluck offering; a plate full of ‘Semla’, a Swedish dessert that was also known as sweet rolls. He had not baked it, of course, because he had no idea how the hell anything in a kitchen worked (that was what house-elves were for). His mother had shipped it via owl to him the night before.
As he made his way to the potluck table, he happened to spot his least favourite person; Arjan. Things had been a bit awkward... Erm, more so than usual, after the older boy had saved his life. Felix had never really known how to interact with him in the first place, but now he either didn’t even bother to quip back at him, opting to simply walk away, or sputtered and tripped up on his insults. He didn’t know how to face him after he had done something... UGH nice. There had to be a way to make things go back to normal or at least level the playing field.
Arjan wasn’t the only person Felix didn’t want to be caught dead in a room with. There was Henri, the French asshole who had approached him a few days earlier, Charles, another pain in the ass from Durmstrang, and Alec, the guy who kissed like a brick wall. Actually, the last guy could be rather fun to mess with. It seemed like he was staring at a group of people. Felix didn’t particularly care as to why, but it was a great opportunity to relieve some of his stress. “Hey Brick Lips, I know you’re a wall, but try to be more subtle, eh?”
That was when he spotted Poe. The kid from the party he had attended in January. The guy was nice enough, but he really needed to learn to loosen up a bit and not worry about pleasing his delusional mother. Ugh, he remembered that woman… He wasn’t finished getting revenge on her for humiliating him during that party. He just might be able to use Cain to his advantage. With a thin smirk, he approached the prefect, tossing an arm around his shoulders casually. "Hey there, Poe. You stayin’ out of trouble? Nice robes you got on."
