Level 2

Oliver did his best to block out the other competitors. He didn't want to get to caught up in appearances of the others. After all it wasn't always the biggest who came out on top in events like these. The young badger took off his shirt and placed it behind him as he lined up at the shoreline. His eyes locked onto the older student on a boat going out near the pirate ship.

Everyone was awaiting his signal.

It all happened in a blink of an eye. It was like watching muggles storm a storefront on a Black Friday. Only the students pressed on for bragging rights, and summer camp glory, not sales. Cold water splashed as everyone ran into the body of water until they could swim out to ships. Fully submerged in the water came as shock, and jolted newly found energy into him as he raced forward.

The start of the race was about pace for Ollie. He didn't want to tire out in the first event trying to grab an early lead. Instead the boy hovered in the back pack waiting for his chance to strike. All he had to do was finish in respectable distance from the leader. Easier said then done of course knew. The first lap finished almost as fast as it started. At least that's how he felt since half the time was adjusting to the temperature of the water.

The student from the boat shouted something about level two although it was hard to hear with the water splashing in his ear. For Oliver level two meant closing the distance between him and the leader now. He was a little further back then he would've liked, but he was confident in his abilities. Hopefully they wouldn't him down. He knew it was going to take a little digging deep for him to pull it out.

She couldn't help the giggles that escaped her lips and the blush that covered her face as he spoke. Haven wasn't completely listening, and didn't understand all of the words that he had said, but she thought they were beautiful. The boy could be uttering complete nonsense (like most of what she herself spewed out), and Haven would think he was telling the most interesting story.

"I'm Haven. Bohannon. Haven! Bohannon. Haven Bohannon!" she said, introducing herself, but the glance she stole at his eyes caused her to flubber her words a little bit more than usual. She stood agape for a moment, her heart absolutely melting as she took in his figure. She wanted to remember every little detail. Haven wasn't a very good artist, but desperately wanted to sketch everything, every small little mark, doodle it in the margins of her homework assignments.

Hopefully he wouldn't find that too creepy.

But, since her art skills were somewhat lacking, Marcus would have to be her one confidant until undoubtedly asked who her crush was, as girls tend to do. Before, she had never known who to say. Now, she had an answer. She would just need his name. Another thing to write in the margins of her every assignment.

Trying not to make a further mess of the whole situation and completely embarrass herself, Haven skittered away. Maybe at the end of the event she'd work up the courage to ask him more questions.

Despite her efforts to not be distracted, Haven didn't notice when the time had been called to start swimming. She had been too busy staring at the boy from a less obvious distance. She had gotten a face full of water before realizing that everyone else had started swimming. Haven quickly pulled her hat a little tighter on her head, and swam as fast as she could to make up for lost time. Unfortunately, she had already started to drag behind the others. She had told herself not to get distracted, not to just let the win swim away from her.
Things were not working out in her favor.

Although she gave her best attempts, she simply couldn't catch up, and failed to complete the lap.
Well, she simply had no other choice but to keep going, did she? She couldn't just stop, and then leave the boy to wonder what had become of her. Put it this way: she has more time to think of what to say to him once she reaches the end.

Haven swam a little faster, eager to get level one over with... again.

Aurelia wanted to know if Durmstrang events were as rowdy as Hogwarts’. Of course, he himself had no basis to compare the two other than a brief stay at the British grounds and an even briefer time spent at the spring ball, but his pride for his school would allow him no other option. “No. Not really,” he answered, his attention successfully set on the taller of both girls. “Believe it or not, but Durmstrang is a bit more…ah, disciplined, than that back home.” No offense, he’d nearly added afterwards, completely lacking self-awareness in his peers’ unruliness.

The crowd of students moving into position near the stadium’s edge signalled that it was time to begin. Before doing so himself, Lysander was urged downward by her gentle weight around his arm, knees bending to account for the height difference. The kiss planted on his cheek would not go in vain. “Good luck, Aurie. You too, Miss Towers.” A salute, indicating that he would not mind catching up with her at a later date.

Unlike Aurelia, Lysander dove into the waters. The last time he had a swim like this was after his lifeboat capsized due to reckless Ilvermorny helmsmen. That, and a drowning peer hadn’t made the situation any easier by adding weight to the dinghy in their panic. Nevertheless, in all his effort around the ship, Lysander found his technique placing him at a tied and comfortable second. It wasn’t winning like he’d imagined, but close and there was more where that came from.

Stretching while he waited for the race to start. Winning was great, but for now, he would be more than happy to finally get some action. Sitting benched didn't do his muscles any good for sure. But arriving so late, he didn't have much to to stretch before the signal was given to start that sent a players in a trample towards the waters, brushing violently past him.

Hadrian dived into the refreshing coolness of the waters. He would take it slow for now, he was just getting warmed up. There was ample time to take over and improve his position. But the worst would be not being able to finish if he pushed himself too hard and tired out while he was only in the waters and before he even got to run. Preserving his stamina, he'd go much slower yet ensuring the finished the round just below the time limit.

One might even be fooled. Hadrian Zuheir was far from a bad swimmer. Strokes larger and faster, he propelled himself forwards for the next lap, now determined to take over whoever he could.

"Sorry" Serena responded somewhat awkwardly with a nod of her head in agreement. She still tried to maintain a polite smile, not entirely sure what more to say about being almost unrecognisable. In truth, perhaps she would have said it had certainly been some time but repeating herself seemed unnecessary. In her awkwardness, she ended up just apologising for being herself. Moments too late, she mentally scolded herself as she realised that she probably could have said the same about him. He too had changed, likely far more than her as he actually grew a lot taller than she had at the very least.

Despite being somewhat disappointed by the answer, she politely nodded. In truth, she did not expect anything personal or deep - not when she was approaching him out of the blue after years. His generic answer was likely the same as hers would have been, so her disappointment was not with him but rather because she did not have the courage to ask the questions she specifically wanted the answers to. It was not the time nor the place for such things. She smiled softly, "About the same, isn't that the only way?" She answered, knowing full well how unpredictable every day was at Hogwarts. The only thing you could predict was that you were never truly safe.

A somewhat familiar face appeared, immediately snuggling up to the Durmstrang student that she could not help but simply blink at the whole very familiar display. This was not the first time Serena was witnessing a jealous girlfriend - which, she was assuming, was their relationship. She was mostly just grateful the girl was throwing herself at him, rather than throwing her fist towards her like had happened previously. Serena paused, trying to ponder her name. It was some pureblood family name, right? Aurelia... something. They were not close by any means but being in the same year and the same school, they had at the very least seen each other in passing or shared classes. "Aurelia," She greeted in return, opting for her first name in return.

"Serena's completely fine," She responded with a nod, not really one for formality. She was just trying her very best to be polite - mostly so her brother did not rat her out to their parents for it, "And not at all. In fact, if anything, I likely owe you one. You were a visitor to my school. As host, it should have been me who approached you. Unfortunately... something came up," She replied, unsure of what more to really add to that. The incident that came up was very likely instigated by one of his fellow schoolmates, in all truth. She might not have been there for the start but she did not trust the Durmstrang champion for shit.

With a shrug, Serena continued, "Eh, when you get a group of hormonal and far too emotional students in one room, things are bound to go wrong," It was definitely a regular occurrence but a lot of the drama came from the attendees it would seem. They were far too violent and prone to anger - herself included. Lysander added a comment about how Durmstrang was far more disciplined and honestly, Serena had to fight back a burst of laughter at it. From what she had seen, Durmstrang students had been at the heart of quite a bit of the drama from the recent events. They might have had to face hags but they did like to instigate rather unnecessary fights.

Glancing over towards the others, "It looks like we're going to start soon. I'll give you two some privacy beforehand," She said with a smile towards both Lysander and Aurelia, not wanting to continue to third wheel their relationship when it was obvious that the girl was trying to mark her territory all over him, "It was good to see you again, though. Oh - and good job out there on Saturday," Serena continued, recalling that she had seen him play on the Durmstrang quidditch team two days prior. From memory, he had not been on the team when she had played them, "I'll see you both around," The Hufflepuff gave a nod of her head as she said her goodbyes, excusing herself from their company as she returned the salute with two fingers pressed to her forehead before moving them out into a peace sign.

With that, she made her way over to the start line checking on her gloves and her wand once more. She was not here to win this nor did she really care enough to get competitive about it. However, this was training. Whether she succeeded or failed did not matter. It was the journey that mattered, this was all part of her training. Diving into the water, she instantly started to swim. Swimming was not her strong suit but she had classes in her childhood and could manage the basics, at least.

The first lap, honestly, didn't seem that hard. Aly dove into the water with surprising grace for a girl who 1) often tripped over her own two feet and 2) had not swum more than a couple of semi-competitive races against her father at beaches on rare family vacations before. She took well to the water, though, and one may have thought she was a fish instead of an eagle as her arms and legs cut through the waves.

She forced herself to focus on the churning of her limbs against the churning of the water, the fight against splashes from any nearby competitors, until she had finally finished the first lap; only then did she finally look up and take a quick glance around her. There was one girl far out in front - Santario, an... acquaintance, of sorts, from Defence Against the Dark Arts class earlier in the year - and then a trio in front of her, and then, neck-and-neck with Aly herself, a girl and a boy. The girl looked to be from Hogwarts, Aly thought she may have perhaps seen her in the winding corridors or on the twisting moving staircases of her beloved Scottish castle, but the boy seemed unfamiliar - perhaps a foreign student, like Manuela and many of the rest of her tent-mates. Speaking of Manu, Aly swiveled her head just enough to catch sight of the Brazilian girl a few groups behind her, doing fairly well; so was her cousin Charles, just behind that.

Aly shot them both grins and thumbs-ups, then dunked her head back into the water. Her hefty head of coily curls, normally fluffy and frizzy, had soaked into waves that stuck to her back in thick, heavy wet splotches, and she found herself wishing she had tied up her hair in a ponytail or some sort of cap beforehand. Oh, well. It was too late now, and she had another two laps to complete yet.

Action: just keep swimmin'

I ran out of time, I did the rolls already but haven't gotten the mod post up yet. I will do the mod post when I get up tomorrow first thing!

RESULTS

It was clear that the 6 who had failed Level 1 the first time around were bound and determined to pass the level this time. All but 2 seemed to get a second wind and did their best to show off their skills. Haley was the leader of the group, and this time she didn't make any mistakes. She was the first one to start off the lap and soon left the others behind her. Florian was a bit behind Haley but managed to take second place amongst the 6 of them. Greta was directly behind him and Haven trailed a little behind her.

Unfortunately, it seemed as if Michael and Rita were losing steam as they trailed farther and farther behind the pack. At last, the level ended and all but Michael and Rita ended up passing the level this time. Kim cheered the successful people on to attack Level 2 for the first time and encouraged the 2 who had failed to try one more time. He'd be helping them out a little this time around, so they didn't feel too discouraged. But if they failed a third time, they would be eliminated from the Triathalon. There was only so much time.

RESULTS

Level 2 was harder than Level 1, only because the people on Level 2 had come fresh from Level 1 and their stamina was lowered drastically because of this. As a result, they needed strength to continue to keep going. Kim kept a careful eye on everyone as they attempted Level 2 and noticed that quite a few people ended up getting winded from tackling a second lap so soon after the last one. Noah Jupe and Edward Smith decided it was too much to handle and decided to pull out of the game, not being able to take anymore.

Serena Bowen also failed the level because she had to take a break to rest awhile longer.

As for the others, Hadrian pulled ahead of the pack by quite a bit and was swimming all by himself after a time, finishing first in the second lap. Romeo wasn't too far behind Hadrian. But he couldn't close the short distance between the two of them. Raphael was very close to catching up to Romeo but just couldn't quite pass him. Sara with his great strength was close behind Raphael but hadn't yet been able to catch him.

Howard, Hogwarts' Hexwizard Champion, was directly behind Sara and aiming to catch up to the student from Mahoutokoro but couldn't quite make it. Angelique pulled ahead of Howard and caught up to Sara's position but despite all her efforts wasn't able to pass him. Directly behind Howard, Lysander could be seen, attempting to silently swim past him. But he wasn't fast or strong enough to do so. Not this time. Bloom and Manuela could see Lysander up ahead and both tried to catch him. But both of them failed to do so.

So, they decided to try and at least pass eachother but it seemed they were evenly matched and getting ahead of the other one would be hard to do. A little ways behind Astrid could be seen swimming alone. But a short distance away from her a trio could be seen, composed of Charles, Evelynn and Louca. Directly behind them a duo composed of Ayako and Chikai pulled steadily closer to the trio. They seemed to be working together, trying to use their strengths together in an attempt to catch up to those ahead of them.

Behind the duo, Stephen could be seen, swimming by himself as he sought to catch up to the others. Della was directly behind him and Aly was behind her. Katherine could be seen a few inches behind her and another trio of Aurelia, Rodion and Marina steadily pulled closer to her. Vivienne was directly behind the trio and at the end was another duo, Verona and Oliver who brought up the rear. Unfortunately, that meant 9 people hadn't passed the level this time. It was a large increase from the previous level's failures.

But that was to be expected as most people weren't accustomed to swimming for long periods of time. Once Level 2 was over, Kim looked over at the 9 people trying their best to reach the finish line. Akira and Elena were trying their hardest to reach the end first. Even though they hadn't passed the level in time, they seemed intent on proving that they could at least be the first to finish. Even if it wouldn't be officially counted for them to move on to the third and final stage of Round 1. But neither one was able to pull away.

And they both finished at the same time. Quentin was the next to finish, Aurora and Reena were the next two to finish, followed by Nessie, Serena T and Aryaan. And last, Santario, Level 1's first place, pulled a complete turn-around by coming in last place this time for Level 2. Perhaps she'd exhausted herself too much for Level 1. Maybe they would all do better in the third and final level of Round 1. "You can do it! Come on guys!" Kim called out, encouraging them to finish the second lap. It wasn't that hard, right?

Those who pass Level 2 will proceed directly into Level 3. Level 3 is somewhat different from Level 1 and 2, as there are now water obstacles in your way that you must swim around. You cannot touch them. If you do end up touching them, you end up failing the level. It will take evasion this time to swim the third and final lap around the ship.

These water obstacles are blown up water balloon type of things that are popular amongst muggles when it comes to water. They float on the surface of the water and are thrown down in the way of the swimmers as they approach certain areas. Pax, who is waiting on board the ship, will cast them into the water at three different spots when swimmers approach and Kim will toss some onto the water from his small boat when swimmers come into range too. Make sure you avoid these obstacles to pass the third and final level!

For the next mod post I will tell you if you passed Level 3 or not. If you fail Level 3, you can write that you touched one or multiple of the water obstacles.

10 people had failed Level 2 and 2 people had failed Level 1 again. Technically, he wasn't too sure about 3 of them, the 2 who had failed Level 1 and the one who had failed Level 2. They didn't seem to look too good and Kim wondered if he should take them out of the game. The last thing he wanted was for them to pass out and drown. He'd keep a close eye on them this upcoming round and if they still didn't seem like they would recover, the boy would eliminate them so they could get some rest back at their tent or at the healer's tent.

He turned his attention to those who had successfully passed Level 2.

"Congratulations on passing Level 2. You will now go onto Level 3, the final level of Round 1. Level 3 is probably the most challenging of all the levels because you've already swum two laps around the ship. This time there will be muggle water obstacles thrown into your way while you swim. You must avoid touching these obstacles in the water. If you hit or touch one of them you fail the level and must repeat it. If you make it past the obstacles and complete the lap in time, you will proceed to Round 2. Round 2 will be overseen by Pax. I will see you again for Round 3. I wish you luck in Level 3."

Kim told them, looking forward to seeing how they would handle this new challenge.
