Ash was absolutely thrilled because today would be her first time participating in a ball. Not just any ball, but a wizarding ball! Not to mention, the ball would be in a Faerietale theme where people could dress themselves in fairy tale like outfits. Well, to be honest, Ash didn’t even get a chance to join any ball in her Muggle world before. During her time in Hogwarts she wasn’t close with any other male students yet except Marius, the second year, Hufflepuff student she met on the Hogwarts Express was a very nice person who loved animals. So he was really the only one who she could ask to be her date for the ball, and she was glad that he agreed to be her date. Of course, it was only Platonic. Nothing more, nothing less. She hoped that they would have a good time and have fun in the ball. Ash was also kind of excited to see other students, she even heard there would be students from other wizarding schools at the ball as well. How cool would that be!

A few weeks ago, she informed her family about the up-coming ball in Hogwarts. Her mom was super excited for her that she even went so far to buy an elegant and expensive looking white gown for her, its design was inspired by one of her favorite childhood fairy tales “The Six Swans”. Then her mom had her stepdad to send it to her. Ash felt kind of bad for the poor owl, that had to carry such a heavy parcel during its journey in order to deliver it to her in person.

When she tried on the ball gown, it felt quite airy, as if her were walking on the clouds. The fluffy feathers on her shoulders and the materials of the whole gown were overall soft, so it was very comfortable for her to wear. Ash decided to braid her hair in a waterfall braid hairstyle, which was trending in the Muggle world for most preteens who wanted to go party. It looked sophisticated in her opinion. However, the waterfall braid hairstyle actually took her days to practice, but the hard work did pay up in the end. And once Ash was done dressing herself up for the ball, she went to the Courtyard where the ball was held and waited for her date to arrive at the entrance.

The Gryffindor Prefect later heard a familiar, friendly voice saying hello to her. She turned her head to look who it was, and it was really Marius. He was dressed in a classic black tuxedo suit like a true gentleman. “Hi Marius, you’re finally here.”, Ash greeted him back with a smile. But when he apologized to her for being possibly late and asked her if she had been waiting here long or not, she quickly reassured him, “And no, not really. I just arrived here a few minutes ago, so the wait wasn’t long at all.” Ash did notice a bit that his tone sounded slightly tense, and she could guess why. Most people would be nervous and didn’t want to make a bad impression. Ash wasn’t that kind of person who would care about something that, she preferred people to just be themselves. “By the way, nice suit you got there. It makes you look quite handsome like a gentleman.” Ash intentionally gave him a compliment to lighten up the mood. “Come on, Marius. Let’s go in together. I bet they have a lot of delicious food and drinks there!

Howard was feeling anything but festive when he entered the ball on that cool October night. He was dressed in the same simple, black suit that he wore to all the formal events at Hogwarts. The moonlight always had a way of making the fabric appear even darker in a drastic contrast to his pale skin that now almost glowed in the twilight. The Dhampir may even have been quite nice to look at if his expression was not so sour. Not even the beautiful decorations that the ball planners had labored quite extensively over could budge that chip that weighed down his shoulders. At least there was food. No amount of heartache or angst could prevent the teenager from skipping a chance to fill his belly.

The next moments would pass as Howard made his way through the various offerings. Some savory stew and a delicious meat pie would wash down nicely with whatever that bowl of red liquid was. And why not a crisp green apple to finish off the meal. Though his stomach was now full and content, it did little to fill the emptiness in his heart. He couldn't help himself but to daydream as he looked out onto the crowd before him. In his mind's eye Bloom and he would be sharing this plate of food or laughing the night away as they danced like no one was watching. Yet reality was harsh as the only company he had this night was his own misery.

For a moment Howard considered turning around and heading back to the Hufflepuff common room. Why torture himself in public when he could easily do that in the privacy of his dorm. He had hoped the festive night would shake him form the funk he had found himself in, but as he looked around it did little to shake the shadow that clung to him. Just as he was about to turn however, he would spot people drifting out onto the grounds and he would remember. Tonight there was not only the ball, but a carriage ride and a petting zoo to boot. If a full belly couldn't shift his darkened mood, perhaps some time with the animals would se him right. Care of Magical Creatures was his favorite class after all. He wasted no more time before heading off in that direction.
Note: Open to interaction, but they would need to follow Howard to the petting zoo or he'd just blow them off.

Once, Aida attended a school ball dressed as Ares, God of War. That night was an all-too-peaceful memory compared to the mania overtaking Aida tonight. Since those times of training relentlessly to vanquish the Thief of Memory in battle, the wix’s mental stability and respect for humankind had deteriorated. Without the reassurances of one Alexander Varellion and the focal point of their shared quest driving Aida on each day, all the wix had left tying them to humanity was Ileen Knight… and there was only so much one Slytherin girl could do when the sun in Aida’s life collapsed into a pin-prick of cold space. When Alexander’s parents pulled him from Hogwarts for transferring to a distant school, his loss may have passed unnoticed by most of the student body. However, to one person, his disappearance posed an abrupt end of an era. Aida’s pockets told the story, with the mage clinging to the empty shells of what once gave stability and meaning to their world. A skull, a letter, a string of pearls… simple objects to most people, but to Aida, holding these close kept otherwise long-lost people alive. This was not simple sentiment but, rather, Aida’s sacred mission as the Keeper of Memory, fighting the terrible Vanishing. It was as if a black fog, a silent death, crept around every unwatched corner of Aida’s life. The pair had never found what stole people away without warning, and there was nothing the wix could do for Alexander now… nothing but guard the last echoes of his remembrance.

Who could know what ghosts Aida came clutching as they entered, wearing an appropriately festive outfit– feather-rimmed chiffon wings on a robe evoking imagery of the Swan Maiden of classical fairy tales. Aida weaved recklessly into the courtyard, spinning from side to side. A sardonic grin pecked the albino's face as they cast the corners of their garment around the air to watch its downy tendrils swirl together with the leaves caught in the grasp of the dancing wind. The fine details of the picturesque scene passed by, lost on the tilted mage, until Aida halted in surprise before a bevy of plaster swans.

“Hello,” Aida told the frozen plaster. An itch inside the wix’s veins urged them to move along. What use was there, talking to statues? Yet, unable to tear their sapphire-hyacinth eyes away, Aida stared down at the scene. The ducky family of the ‘ugly’ fledgling– what were they thinking as the grey one entered the swans’ embrace? Did they, could they understand? Would they ever think of the ‘ugly duckling’ again after this day, and had the grey one actually found a real… true… home? Aida couldn’t understand. Where had they, themselves ever known a real home? What did it even feel like, to have such a thing? The wix thought they had known when in the presence of Alexander and Ileen, but then, what kind of home would up and leave? What kind of home abandoned you when you strove every day to bring it light and warmth?

What makes you think you belong in someone’s home, questioned a voice emanating from everywhere and nowhere. These humans all lay claim to the open spaces, building walls to help them steal the earth away so that they don’t have to share with other beings. Don’t pretend you’re like them. You’re better than that. The White General’s echo rang like distorted noise in the wix’s head, sending an ache through skull and neck– or had they just slept on it wrong?

To call a place a home implies there are places you do not belong. Can you say you don’t belong on your own planet, as if one ought to hack off Gaea’s limbs that belong to all? The soil and air and water that flow through us, the breath of life itself, does not choose whom nor why. We belong to Life, not these petty mortal constructs.

“I don’t… I don’t know…” stammered Aida to the plaster swans. Why would it hurt so much if Aida didn’t need a home, a place they belonged? Didn’t they want something to cling to, above all others– a sanctuary, a locus of duty, a chosen one?

The squeaks of distant beasts tickled the edge of Aida’s mind, but through the haze of hyperfixation Aida did not register what it could mean… not knowingly. Yet, the mage’s intuition heard the calling. A spark caught in their belly, and Aida squeezed a fist. Something was wrong here. This night was one of destiny, and Aida was needed elsewhere. A desperate yearning clenching in the throat and a prickling on the back of the neck sent a shudder through the mage– and then a voice, waylaid for far too long, returned.

Our time has come… Will you do as you promised? asked the Undead King. A desert tawny owl who perched in a cluster of blackthorn took flight above.

“I… remember,” replied Aida aloud. “I still remember.” Looking down at the plaster swans once more, sparks returned to Aida’s eyes. Snowy locks of hair spun while Aida turned as if suddenly pulled, and the wix noticed the sounds of distant creatures beyond the rim of a small footpath strewn with decorations of woodland creatures. “I hear your call, my liege.”

Marius nodded his head sincerely. "Thank you, it's very kind of you," he said lightly. Was he supposed to say the same thing about Ash's clothing? Would it sound sincere, or would she think he only said it because she had said something nice about his suit? "Nice gown. Bet it fits for a true queen."

He looked at the said object carefully, but at the same time the Hufflepuff made sure he did not stare; it would definitely make the owner uncomfortable. He had never seen Mum wearing something like this; her party dresses were all so simple and only went to her knees, sometimes he even thought they did not look like party attires compared to what the other ladies at the events they attended together wore.

Was it because she felt she was too old for such dress? Was it simply because it was not her style? Or was it because a gown like Ash's too expensive for their family to afford? Tonight, Marius' own suit did not even truly suit the dance's theme, nor was it new. Why, he had worn exactly the same tuxedo and bowtie to the previous 2021 Spring Ball!

"The perk of being male, I guess," he thought. "With timeless suits and ties like these two, it's difficult for people to remember whether I've worn them before."

He was glad when Ash quickly switched the topic from clothing to food and drink. "Sure, let's try some, if you'd like to. Careful, though - rumour has it that magical ball committee sometimes sprinkled potion or the like to the drinks to cause comical effects on the drinkers," he laughed heartily.

Wynn marveled at the beauty of the decorated courtyard. Familiar fairytales were scattered throughout, students were all dressed up in intricate outfits, and the soft lighting accompanied by mystical music set the perfect mood for a dance. It was as if he had stepped into a movie set, or magically isekai-ed into the world of fairytales. Though to be fair, being a wizard was about the closest he could get to an isekai tale.

Image posted by the member Wynn himself was dressed in an 'elven prince' outfit, one that was picked out by his mother at Madam Malkins. He wondered if he would see the girl he had briefly conversed with back then tonight. She did say she would be attending the ball. Image posted by the member

He hummed to the music as he made a beeline to the feast, spooked by an animated raven halfway. Socializing wasn't really his forte, and crowds did make him a bit queasy. Thankfully his costume came with a mask, which gave him a sense of security, even if it wasn't really covering his face. Far too shy to find a ball date at school, he decided he would be here for the food and drinks at least. He was especially looking forward to the desserts. Maybe he would skip the main courses to eat more desserts if they had chocolate cookies there. One night of indulging in sweets couldn't do any harm, could it? Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a woodland creature nimbly darting around a plump pumpkin. Interesting. I think I might go check that out later. For now, food first, he thought.

Just as he got near the food, he accidentally bumped into a brown-haired girl. "O-oh sorry!" He said quickly, being a bit flustered. It seemed like all he did recently was bump into people left and right. "Wait," he said, as he realized who she was. "You're the girl from the robes store!"

People were so fast. Why were people so fast? Even when trying to be early for an easy win with spotting Queenie as she arrives, he ends up late. Well…not really late. But certainly not early either. Which would be fine, if Logan wasn’t way better at showing up to these sorts of things earlier than him that is. But sadly, she was fast. And smart. And he was really going to be annoyed if she used his own very lazy, yet ingenious idea of watching the main entrances to pick him out easily in their little game.

Twisting around a group that looked like they’d jumped straight out of the 12 dancing princesses he found himself rethinking his lazy plans. Watching them wouldn’t work now. There were already too many people at the main area to risk not searching…hnn. Too bad plan A was also plan B.

A sharp blast of cold air nipped at his nose, he shivered but less at the feeling and more towards the pretty eeriness of the area as he walked down the stone halls. It was all quite enchanting, especially the flowers covering the walls, he could tell that much without so much as entering the main area yet. He could see them from the open spots of the windows. The sharp black thorns while menacing, failing to keep the boy from peeking through said opening in an attempt to pick out a certain mad queen. There was of course little luck. Still…it wasn’t totally useless. It was, after all, fine and dandy to walk and enjoy the sights like the rest of the guests but Elsian found himself quite unwilling to deal with lingering crowds in the entrance way & risk Logan spotting him first so easily when there was a perfectly fine opening right here.

Elsian leaned forward, a brisk breeze tousling his hair and sending Kitty crawling into the crook of his neck to hide in the warmth of his hood. He’d warned the spider, not that she understood. All she’d understood was that everyone was dressed funny and that surely her owner was being cruel by denying her.

Now look at her. The brat.

I told you it was cold,” he laughed, poking the cranky spider with a gloved finger, “maybe next time you’ll listen instead of escaping your carrier.” Doubtful. She always wanted her way, and he could practically feel the way she leered at the people nearest to the window, they were lucky she was unwilling to leave the warmth of the cloak. In fact, he could easily spot a few people wearing regretfully nice crowns and tiaras that he was sure Kitty would be all too happy to inspect firsthand.

Fingers digging into stone, Elsi perched himself on the sill. Not for the 1st time, he was thankful for the thick cloak he’d donned over his clothes. Not only did it keep the wind from stabbing though him but as he slipped an arm through, thorns catching on the fabric harmlessly, he realized it was also very good against fairy tale thorns as he toyed with one of the flowers. He wondered how many people would prick their fingers against them tonight. Throwing one leg over the side he was quick to hop down from the sill, cloak catching and dragging against thorns briefly as he landed on soft grass with a tiny thud. He snickered at the startled look he got from an unsuspecting victim, grinning unabashedly and plucking at the yellow flower that'd caught on his arm as he slipped by. “Sorry about that.” The lazy boy didn’t bother trying to sound sincere.

No, he was quick to eye the rapidly growing crowd instead. No signs of Queenie.

Darn. Guess he’d actually need to go looking then.

He slipped through people, diving into more crowded parts of the fall ball. Not many were dancing yet, save for the fairies quick to entrance people into joining with the way they flitted about, but more people were definitely joining with each minute. No Logan there. He eyed the walls. Nothing. He paused by the food; either Logan wasn’t here yet or she was really bloody good at avoiding him. He hoped it was the former. The latter did not bode well for him winning the game.

Elsian plucked at the necklace distractedly, toying with the chain with a roll of his eyes as Kitty finally got bold at the sight of the goblets within sight. He wondered if it was because of the shiny metal or the burgundy liquid. Either way, she wasn’t getting it. He made sure of it, continuing to walk past the goblets much to the spider's outrage if the way she hung heavily on the arm closest to the table was any indicator. Which it was. Luckily for her he paused long enough for the spider to hop onto the table's linens and hang there, quickly scuttling under the table and out of sight when some younger kids passed.

It was a frail blessing as it meant she hid to easily stalk the kids.

Really?” he asked, unimpressed at the way he could see one tiny spidery leg peek from behind the cloth. No way was he letting her stay under the tables. He poked at her, urging her onto his hand as she climbed back into view. Alas, apparently seeing a few other peoples pets out and about cemented the fact she too should be allowed freedom; she bolted for it, abandoning her chance at the plates to crawl back under and onto the other side of the table. “Hey!” He laughed, quick to duck his head down to peer under the table before straightening back, both hands on the empty edges of the table to glare at the black webber with an amused look.

"Hello!" The girl approaching Rani was indeed Beatrice, but she was barely recognizable. Her hair, which was now curly, suited her very well, and her dress was one of the prettiest she had ever seen. She looked beautiful.

"Hi," Rani replied, "I barely recognized you. You look very, um, pretty," Rani looked at her nails, "In that dress," She quickly added. Wow, she's here two minutes and I'm already awkward. Now she'll probably think that I find her ugly when she's not wearing the dress.
But Rani just couldn't bring herself to say: you're always pretty. That would be weird right?

"So, uhm, I brought something for you." Rani continued, trying her best to avoid eye contact. "something that I made. It's kinda becoming our tradition." She smiled and held out her hand with the envelope. It was a bit damaged from holding it so tight, but it still looked cute. Rani had folded the envelope herself. Inside she had put a bracelet that she'd also made, and a little piece of parchment with the text: 'Thank you for being my friend!'

For the first time, Bloom was beyond dolled up for a ball at Hogwarts. She had saved every sickle she earned from scholarships as well as from her family and spent a majority of it on the dress that was hugging her petite body.

Her dress was a that of a soft blue faerie-tale. It was modest and yet hugged her body in the right places to make her look more mature. It cascaded down to the floor with elegance and her upper body was that of a princess sweet-line. Flowers started from the breast and made its way down to right below her waist adding more flare to the dress than it already had.

Bloom had gotten the dress at the tail end of the summer alongside her older sister, who made time for her to go shopping in the muggle world. Bloom remembered her sister determined that Howard would be head over heels over her in the dress. While that may have been true, the two had not spoken since their impromptu date approximately a week ago when he had gone a bit too far for her comfort. A beautiful night gone sour. He had yet to see her in her dress, but she knew that he was aware of the color as he was supposed to match in some way.

Taking more time than it should, Bloom's hair was up in a formal messy bun. She made sure that every strand counted and placed a small flowery clip in her hair to hold it together. Bloom had brought one strand out from the bun and let it flow down the side of her heart-shaped face.

It was completely unexpected of what was to happen tonight. While she did not want to go to the Fall Ball for obvious reasons, she followed her fear and pushed herself to go. This was her second to last Fall Ball and she wasn't going to miss it.

Bloom, wearing her sneakers, walked onto the courtyard and looked around. It was absolutely beautiful; like being in a fairy-tale. The fairy lights that glowed had given an eerie, but yet romantic feel to the night. Her porcelain skin shined from the lights against her baby blue dress. Looking around, there were so many different fairy-tale stories coming to life like a glass slipper from Cinderella, a frog... Bloom couldn't figure out what story that was from.

As she walked further into the courtyard, she noticed that there was many activities to choose from. She could either join a petting zoo, take a ride on a carriage or feast. It was overwhelming to figure out where to go first. Bloom stood still.

Bloom crossed her arms as though she was cold trying to decide. However, instead of deciding where to go, her mind shifted straight to about Howard.

Although they had dated for a few months, she felt like he was the one for her. He would have stuck by her side and tried each activity with her. But alas, it was unknown of they were still together or not. They hadn't talked for a week after that night. Bloom's arms tightened around her. It was her fault. She ruined everything. Why didn't she just let him? But if he did, would he have respected her? Bloom shook her head, trying to take her mind off of Howard. But it was only impossible. Perhaps she should have never come tonight. She did not realize how difficult it was going to be for her.

To ease her mind, Bloom walked back towards the glass slipper and stared at its shine and beauty. As of tonight, she felt like Cinderella. A girl who is from rags looking like riches for the night. Her chocolate eyes stared blankly at the shoe as her mind rattled with thoughts.

"Hi," Rani replied, "I barely recognized you. You look very, um, pretty," she looked down between the two of them, gladly not noticing that Beatrice's cheeks flushed red, "In that dress," Rani quickly added. Beatrice smiled, barely able to hide her blushing cheeks and how her heart skipped a few beats.

»Thank you.« She said. »You look magnificent, I mean really lovely, I mean pretty!« the words left her mouth way to fast and she hated how painfully obvious it must be that she can't think clearly around Rani.

"So, uhm, I brought something for you." Rani said, hardly looking at Beatrice. Oh Merlin, I scared her off. Now she's going to think I'm weird. "something that I made. It's kinda becoming our tradition." Beatrice hadn't noticed the envelope in Rani's hand. Now her friend held out this slightly wobbly looking envelope. It looked awfully cute. A soft smile spread on her lips as she took the envelope.

"I hope you like it," Rani said, biting her lip. She's nervous, why is she nervous?

»Thank you.« Her voice was all gentle and dreamy. Beatrice had never heard herself talk like that. Stop sounding like that she told herself, slightly shaking her head to herself.

Beatrice opened the envelope carefully, a little card falling out into her hands. It said: „Thank you for being my friend.” A wild mix of emotion roared in her. Friends. Of course Friends just friends. It hurt her a little but on the other hand she was still beaming over the fact that Rani had made something for her.

She could still feel something else in the envelope, so she looked. It was a flowery selfmade bracelet. Beatrice looked from the Bracelet inside, to Rani and to the Bracelet again. It was beautiful. Yellow orange and soft pink pearls formed flowers, white pearls covered the baby blue band and cold pearls presented the core of the Flowers. Baby Blue like Rani's eyes she thought.

»Thank you Rani. That's so cute.« left her lips, her voice all breathy. She took it out, putting it on her right wrist.

»Could you help me tighten it?« Beatrice asked, holding out her wrist in front of Rani. She had never gotten something selfmade like this but in that moment it felt like the most valuable thing she had ever received.

The sun was setting and the courtyard was drawn in a soft light of oranges and silver blues. The moon was almost full illuminating the rising shadows of the night. Some Hogwart's ghosts were talking between them next to the courtyard entrance, Irina rounded them carefully, she didn't wanted to accidentally touch one of them... she walked around guided by the mystical music that was playing. She saw the different references to the famous fables from Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimm Brothers. This theme felt different for her, it brought her memories from Wolfach, from her grandma. She misses her and their walks through the Black Forest she thought shivering a little to the soft chilly wind from the highlands.

Irina stopped at the fountain, to look closer to the small Thumbelina and the abhorrent toad next to her. It was her favorite fable, the one she listened over and over as a bedtime story. Seated there, near the fountain's was a real fairy. She looked at Irina with her small sparkling eyes, Irina who was dressed like one of them, except she was in a dark chiffon dress, dotted with shining stars, and not with one of the bright colors the faeries use to wear. The little creature gave her a smirk and fled away to the nearest flowers' bush where others from her species were already there dancing in their own way. There's when Irina noticed some familiar faces, some of her new friends were already there. She thought she should went and say "hi" to them, but first she needed to eat something, she felt her stomach making weird noises! She went then to the table next to a juniper tree where all kinds of delicious food was on display. She picked up one of her favorite desserts a pumpkin pie. She was about to turn when she felt someone bumping to her side. "O-oh sorry!" she heard him say . She thought that his voice was not strange to her, but couldn't recognize its bearer since he was wearing a mask. A very beautiful deer mask. "Wait, you're the girl from the robes store!" he remembered her...Oh Merlin! It was one of the most embarrassing moments on her life. She felt immediately blushing, thanking all the existing Gods for being dark outside, otherwise he would have noticed her cheeks turning a deep red. "uh..yeah it's me!" She answered him with a smile. Then stretching out her hand towards him "Irina Sousa, I don't think we had the chance to exchange names..." He was a bit taller then her and he was wearing a blue elven tunic brocade with an embossed silver pattern thread. "I really like your outfit, your mother definitely has a good taste!" She said looking at his mask trying to capture his eyes through it.
