UPBRINGING For her whole life, Riley had lived in Ophelia Hall with her parents. She had no siblings as her parents thought she was quite sufficient, thank you. Ophelia Hall, in short, was just a big house tucked away in a lovely secluded forest. Some people say it seems lonely to live in a big house, but it was actually quite nice. Riley learned from a young age how to waste time by herself and actually, she enjoyed spending alone time. Her parents loved each other, but they would fight a lot. Every time the argued, Riley would run out to the garden and drown out the world listening to the sounds of the estate. She would feel the wind on her skin and breathe in the lovely air. There were lots of trees in the garden and there was a hill to climb and relax on. It also worked as a mini launch pad for learning to fly. But the best part about Ophelia hall by far, was the library. Riley read every book several times, despite the library being very large. She felt reading was an escape from the real world.

HOBBIES Riley has a wide variety of hobbies. The first thing she learned to do was read. She read every book in Ophelia Hall’s library. She also wrote stories. As a child, her mind was flowing with story ideas and she loved to make up characters. Riley also loved the arts. She loved painting and drawing, and improved her drawing skill all the time. Riley had a dream as a child to become a dancer, but being a pure-blood, she couldn’t chase that dream. But it was alright with her because she still had music. Riley learned piano and guitar, learning very quickly. And that was very like her, as she learned very quickly.

First instance of magic

Riley was six when she first discovered she was a witch. Riley was still learning to draw, and she was using her mother’s ink and pen. She was frustrated, but because she couldn’t make her drawings look good (a perfectionist yet again). In a fit of rage, little Riley accidentally exploded the ink. Her mother was a bit angry, but mostly delighted.

Backstory

Riley was bright from a young age. As a child, all she did was read and ask questions. Riley loved reading. She loved it so much, she read every single book at home. So her mother had to buy books every day. Riley had learned all about magic she could on the early years, so she hadn’t had much to do when she was older. So, Riley took up lots of hobbies. She learned piano and guitar. She also practiced flying (with supervision obviously). By the age of 9, Riley had become quite an accomplished witch. Her mother thought that she had deserved something nice after all of her work. One thing Riley had always wanted to do was dance. She had always thought that ballerinas were just amazing and talented people, frankly. She assumed that with her rather strong legs, she could be a good dancer. But of course, It was highly unlikely that she would able to take a class. Riley’s mother wasn’t very strict though. In fact, she wanted Riley to be accustomed to muggles, as she was going to go to school with them. Her mother was quite unalike the rest of her family. They were pure blood fanatics, the lot of ‘em. Riley’s mother, Maura, was raised in a very stern house. She was the youngest of two brothers whom were both at school already. Maura had received only a small bit of attention because she was the only girl. Maura had a very hard childhood, despite being a pureblood. So she made it her goal the raise Riley the correct way, which was letting Riley choose what she wanted to do. She also wanted Riley to have all the love she needed. And, she was gifted to have such a smart child. Sometimes it seemed as if Riley knew things that she couldn’t have known. Her father liked to joke that she was recalling memories from a past life. But that was just Riley. Knowing things was her favorite. Riley’s parents had part-time jobs at the Ministry, as high officials. But alas, their job would cause them to have to travel when on duty. Which would leave little Riley all alone. Well, perhaps not all alone. She had the house elf, Bertha. And the family owl, Isadora. And of course Riley’s tutor. You see, Riley’s parents wanted the best for their daughter when it came to education. So, they hired a tutor. Well multiple actually. (but who’s keeping count?) The first tutor Riley’s parents hired was a nice young lady, just graduated from Hogwarts. She was taking jobs to build up her resume for a Hogwarts teaching application. Despite being otherwise unemployed, she was a rather brilliant teacher. Her name was Eleanor Ferricks. She was kind, and witty. She always kept little Riley on her feet, while still keeping her entertained. And on top of everything, she was a dancer! You see, as a child Riley had always dreamed of becoming a dancer. But she knew, being a pureblood, it could never happen. But it was still fun to learn the art of dance. As well as several instruments, beginners runes, charms, magical literature, potion making, astronomy, maths, and flying education. Riley enjoyed her lessons with Eleanor. At least, until the bitter end. On a brisk day in December, Riley received news that Ms. Eleanor Ferricks had died in an spell accident. Riley and her parents mourned the news for weeks, before beginning the search for a new tutor. The next tutor wasn’t as great though… An older lady, Madame Evelyn Herrible. She taught Riley all the same, but way stricter. She even hit Riley when she misbehaved. Besides her parents, Riley’s family thought the new tutor was much more fitting. Riley dreaded her lessons with Madame Herrible, so she was quite joyed when her mother announced that she was no longer going to leave on account of her job. After all of the tutors, Riley’s parents decided she could rest a bit and prepare for Hogwarts. She liked that idea, because she couldn’t wait for her letter!
