Corrine looks up at the high ceiling of the West Tower, her breath hitching in amazement. Overhead, the levels of the Owlery hang, decorated by owls flying in and out, pecking at their wings. Aside from the varying levels, she could see the occasional perches that were provided for the owls, as well as the intricate architecture of the walls.
It’s wonderful, she thinks, taking it all in. Slowly, she continues walking up the last part of the stairs, now coming face to face with a bunch of owls that perched everywhere. Some had turned their head to look at her, tilting their heads and cooing softly, but a great majority remained disinterested, ignoring her presence.
Admittedly, Corrine finds herself freezing. Although she had spent her life in Tewkesbury where owls are frequently seen normally (she can only assume that a good majority of those could possibly be related to magic, if not fully wild), she herself has not interacted with one prior. She doesn’t know what to expect, and she could feel a tinge of nervousness.
The girl looks around, not spotting anyone in her immediate vicinity. No chance to embarrass myself, she relaxes, stepping forward to approach one of the owls. It’s a tawny owl, one of the few that had looked at her in what could only be curiosity. It coos again, flapping its wings gently as she fully stops in front of me.
“Hello, there.” Corrine greets quietly, her hand slowly coming forward to let it sniff and recognize her. “I’m sorry if I startled you, but.. could you send a letter for me? It’s for my family.”
The tawny owl chirps, nuzzling into her hand. What a sweetheart, her heart squeezes. Wordlessly, she hands over the letter to the owl, who then proceeds to fly up with a chitter. It flies around her a bit, which she watches with a smile. “I’ll have treats for you when you return. Consider it my thanks.” She promises.
As if understanding, the tawny owl lets out what seems to be a happy hoot, circling around her one last time before flying out a nearby open window, determined to finish the task it was assigned.

♡♡♡♡♡♡Riley smiled as she walked into the owlery. Incoming letters carried by owls swarmed the tower. When she spotted her family owl, she immediately walked over, not realizing there was another girl in the tower. Riley grabbed the letter from the owl’s beak, almost too hastily, because the owl gave a small squeak. ”Sorry” she said, before ripping the letter open. It read:Dearest Riley,
I hope you are adjusting to school life quite well. I know that I had a hard time adjusting, but I’m sure you’re doing great. Remember, if you feel homesick, write me and your father. Sorry if he hasn’t been writing you. Your father had been… preoccupied lately.
-Your dear Mother
Riley grinned. She was a bit disappointed her father didn’t write, but she knew he missed her. Riley just hoped her parents were getting along while she was gone. It’s not like she would have helped though. Riley shoved the letter in her pocket, and slid her satchel up higher on her shoulder. It was a brisk evening, but Riley wasn’t cold. She should be, as she was only wearing a sweater, but she wasn’t. Perhaps it was because she had always loved the cold as a child. Riley turned to leave when she jumped backwards, letting out a small squeak. There was a girl there. She had wavy brunette hair and soft hazel eyes. Just like Riley, she had soft freckles speckling her features. Riley realized that they were staring in silence, so she started speaking. ”Hello! Sorry, you sort of startled me. My name is Riley, uh I’m in Ravenclaw.” She said, will a sweet smile on her face.

With a similarly startled yelp, Corrine jumps back with a flinch.
There’s a girl in front of her, having been in the owlery seemingly around the same time as her. I didn’t even see her! She thinks, her heart dropping. But now that she has, Corrine can’t help but be slightly awed. There’s no hiding how beautiful this girl is, and Corrine can’t stop the flush coming to her cheeks. I just embarrassed myself in front of somebody so pretty..
Although the feeling of wanting to hide overcomes her, Corrine lets out a small cough, trying to gather her composure somewhat. “Hello,” she stutters a greeting, bowing slightly. “I’m sorry for startling you, I.. I really didn’t see you. From your reaction, it seems you didn’t see me either.” Her voice is subdued as she speaks, but she’s trying her best.
Hearing that the pretty girl in front of her is in Ravenclaw, Corrine perks up, relaxing. “You’re in Ravenclaw? Me too.” She mumbles. “I’m Corrine.. Corrine Aelina.” Her hazel eyes look up, noticing the other owl that the pretty girl had been interacting with, which she could only assume to be either her personal owl or one of the owls that lived at the Owlery. “..You’re sending a letter to your family too?”
She doesn’t mean to pry, but she is curious.

Paul had nothing better to do, so he went up the stairs and saw where they would lead him. The owlery was... well, not exactly what he imagined, but better than spending time inside. He hadn't had any experience with owls. The only birds that he was keen on, were ducks in the Holyrood park, which he often fed when his parents took him for a walk. Also seagulls in Queensferry and sparrows in both London and Edinburgh. And he also heard the new announce that some thief took a swan from the Thames, and that the police were looking for him. Shame on him.
Never owls though.
Paul understood that he was climbing to a place where certain birds were accomodated, when he saw several of them flying away from the tower in various directions, and two or three arriving through one of the holes in the stone walls. Also, the higher he climbed, the more it smelled of bird poop.
Ugh... that's quite a smell. Ran through his mind, and he waved his hand in front of his nose, to ventilate the air a little.
Once he reached the owlery, he looked inside, just to get to know if someone was present. His classmates' voices soon reached his ears, and so he entered.
"Hey there." Did he greet the two girls. For several seconds, he was wandering around the room, focusing on the owls. The more sympathetic-looking ones, he petted, the less sympathetic-looking ones, he avoided, knowing he might get pecked if not being far away enough.
He walked around the room in silence, reaching the entrance at the end.
“..You’re sending a letter to your family too?” Asked one of the girls, and Paul stopped for a second, thinking about his own writing. He should write to his family too. But... he hated writing. There was literally nothing worse than writing letters out of which 80% looked the same to him, or similar.
The boy sighed. His never ending fight with letters and words now got a new perspective.
His shoulders slumped, as well as his head. He was standing near the door, his back turned to the girls.

Initially, Corrine had been so focused on the girl in front of her that her eyes didn’t process the presence of somebody else in the Owlery. She didn’t even process his initial greeting when he had entered the room.Location: Owlery, West Tower

It’s only when she hears the boy sigh that she actually fully processed the boy’s presence. With a flinch, she turns around, facing the boy’s direction. “I’m so sorry!” She squeaks, ashamed that she hadn’t noticed. “I didn’t see you. Hello to you too.”
The stutters fail to hide her absolute mortification. In her eyes, having failed to respond is a great mistake on her part; she didn’t want the boy to think he was unwelcome.
It’s only after her moment of embarrassment that she sees the conflicted expression on the boy’s face. Concern comes on her face, and she takes a hesitant step closer. “You look.. unhappy. Is something wrong?”
Though the boy is still a stranger to her, she couldn’t exactly control the twinge of concern she feels. They may not be friends, but Corrine certainly wants to help.. and if there’s a way she could, then she’d gladly do so.
Hesitating, Corrine offers her hand for a handshake. “I’m Corrine,” she quietly introduces herself, hoping that if she introduces herself, the boy would feel more comfortable confiding in her or letting her help. “I’m a first year student in Ravenclaw.”

♡♡♡♡♡♡The girl spoke after Riley. She seemed to have a gleam on her eye after hearing Riley was in Ravenclaw. “I’m Corrine.. Corrine Aelina.” That’s a pretty name. She thought to herself. The girl’s pretty hazel eyes moved up to Riley’s family owl, Isadora. “..You’re sending a letter to your family too?” Riley smiled. ”Well actually, I just received an owl. From my mom.” Riley was so preoccupied in meeting this interesting girl that she almost didn’t see the mysterious boy enter the owler. He said, was just standing there, almost too calmly. He had a strange, bothered expression, that made Riley curious. Corrine spotted him as well, but she started speaking to him. “I’m Corrine,” She said steadily. “I’m a first year student in Ravenclaw.” Riley realized she seems to be just staring at them both, a habit she had seemed to acquire lately. She smiled brightly, her unusual blue eyes twinkling. “And my name’s Riley, Riley Bluescar. I’m a Ravenclaw too…” She said quickly. She spoke with a calm manner, but she was surprisingly excited to meet so many new people at once. She started feeling sort of cold in just a sweater, so she grabbed her arms nervously.

When the girls spoke to him, he turned around, the expression in his face surprised. Positively surprised, to describe things right.
"Oh, don't worry about that." Suggested Paul, his eyes on Corinne, after she apologized for not having taken notice of him right off. He could be silent like a mouse.
The other girl introduced herself too, and Paul thus felt the urge to do so as well. He lifted a hand, in order to wave it a little. "I'm Paul from Gryffidor. First year too. Nice to meet ya both."
Corrine then remarked that he seemed unhappy, which was a good point. Paul knew his writing might ebentually become a problem, it alwas was a problem at school, so it was nearly impossible not to be a problem here.
"Oh, it's just..." He paused to summarize the swirl of thoughts in his head.
"I should write to my parents, but I hate writing."
Replied the boy to Corrine's question.
Then he got distracted by the owls which he pointed at. "What a strange way to deliver letters." Hummed the boy. "Wonder if there's some... special training they have to do, to become so reliable."
He then realized he was thinking aloud, and felt embarrassed. Blushing, he shook his head and took a look at Riley who looked... well, not comfortable, holding her arms. "Are you alright?"

When Laverne went inside the owlery, she saw 2 girls and a boy speaking. *Wow, they're already friends...* She felt left out. She had always been good at making friends; she wondered what's stopping her now. Suddenly a snowy owl came in. It was her mother's owl! It came and gave her a letter.
And then suddenly the window opened, with a gust of wind. The letter flew out of my hand. I stroked my family owl and told it to go. It went out of the same window. She closed it for me by her wings. Then I started searching for the letter. "Shoot, I need to find it. I hope they haven't gotten it." Then I saw it. It was in one of the girl's hand. I froze. I wiped my tears, staring at them.

No, it can't be. "Have a good day? How can I have a good day if my pet died. Why, why couldn't it wait till I was home? So that I could give it a proper burial? I whispered, so that I wouldn't drag attention towards myself. But I couldn't control it. I started sobbing silently. When I took my hand up to wipe my tears, my bag fell down. When I tried to pick it up, the bag opened. Everything fell out.Hello Honey,
We have some news for you.
Your hamster has passed away last night. I seems that it wasn't magical.
We're sorry we have to deliver the news like this.
Have a good day.

He looked at the newcomer who had a lot of pink on herself. And was good five centimitres taller than him, which was not exactly normal. So he looked at her feet, getting to know the reason eventually.
"Whoa... nice shoes!" Did he exclaim to the newcomer, no alterior motives were hidden in the statement, it was just his pure opinion stated. "Wasn't it hard to get all the way up here, up the thin staircase? If I were you, I'd be afraid I'd trip, fall down and die, probs, on those... huge heels."
Uttered the boy. He wasn't really known to think his ideas through. That was why he was usually painfully honest with most of his statements.
The newcomer seemed really uncomfortable after reading a letter, so Paul breathed in to ask: "Has something-"
Then though, a set of things that couldn't have been planned took place and interrupted his question about what happened to her, including owls flying in and out, the newcomer's handbag falling, and wind taking her letter. He wanted to react to at least some of them, but it all just went on too fast.
One step at a time, Paul.
One of the things from her handbag rolled over the floor in his direction, so he picked it up, making the few steps that parted them. On his way towards her, he picked two or three more things which she dropped. Once reaching her, he handed them over to her, adding a kind smile. "There... Let me help you with that."

Although Corrine felt overwhelmed by the amount of people that she’s suddenly surrounded with, she, too, got to work. Without an inch of hesitation, she bends down, also picking up a few of the items that had fallen from the other girl. She gingerly brings the items into her arms, then stands up. “I’ve got some items of yours too,” She says shyly, approaching the girl.
As she did, Corrine’s eyes can’t help but linger, sparkling slightly in amazement. This girl.. is absolutely dressed entirely in pastel pink, from head to toe. Pink may not be her favorite color, but she thinks that it’s a beautiful color regardless; it’s amazing that this girl pulls it off so well.
Corrine meekly hands over the items she had picked up, making sure to be careful. “Here you go,” she mumbles. When she looks up, the girl dressed in pink is staring, still teary-eyed from whatever revelation she must’ve read about in her letter.
She’s teary-eyed, Corrine thinks to herself, freezing slightly in place. I’ve never been good at comfort.. What if I fail and make her feel worse? Maybe I should just back off and let the other two handle this.
