Riley looked around the courtyard. The summer breeze whipped against her face and she couldnโ€™t help but smile. Riley looked around wonderingly. There were lots of new faces here, it was so strange. Riley wasnโ€™t used to being around so many other kids her age. Back at home, the only kids she would see were her cousins, and at family reunions. It was a bit hard for Riley to adjust to the new life. She had made friends, but she was so used to alone time. She supposed that it was okay to be alone just this once. She was sitting staring at the rushing water coming down from the fountain. She enjoyed noise. It calmed her and made her feel comfortable. Back at home there was a fountain too. Oh how she missed home. Rileyโ€™s home was called Ophelia Hall, after one of her oldest relatives. It was a lovely quiet place, tucked away in the clearing of a wood. It was far away from any muggles, so Riley could live freely. She used to sit atop the fountain and listen to the beautiful sound of rushing water. She loved the sounds back home. Almost absentmindedly, Riley started humming. Whenever Riley would think, she would start to hum something. It caused some problems in class, but it truly helped. She supposed that if noise could help her think, perhaps that was why she had a great ear for music. Back at home, she would sing quite a lot, and also play several instruments. Riley couldnโ€™t help but feel a little homesick, thinking about Ophelia hall like this. But in a way, it made her feel a bit better. Riley was good at overcoming feelings, but she developed a habit of drowning out the world when she was stressed. She would listen to the sounds around her and not focus on the problem in front of her. When she was young, she had a terrible fear of the dark. It scared her half to death. She refused to go anywhere near the dark side of the forest, and she always had a stuffed animal while sleeping. Of course, she got over the fear eventually. Her parents said she got over it quite randomly, but she knew it wasnโ€™t a coincidence. Like she usually would, she tuned out her problems and listened. And, for once, that made it better. Riley had come to love the noises of the night. The rustling of trees, the chatter crickets, the hoot of owls. The sounds of the night might scare one, but they comforted Riley. Riley drew a deep breath and thought to herself. If I got over my fear of the dark, surely Iโ€™ll adjust to Hogwarts. I canโ€™t let a bit of homesickness stop me from enjoying my time here. Riley began to hum a soft melody and continued listening to the fountain with a smiled on her face.

A fountain, Memories of home, and Night sounds
I was walking through the dark courtyard. I had insomnia and even if I slept, I had nightmares. So here I was, walking in the dark, with a wand in one hand and a book in the other and a mind full of thoughs and questions. I heard the humming. I curiously followed the sound and noticed a girl there. I thought she was a veela. She certainly fitted the description what I read about them. Pretty and having a good voice. I didn't really like confronting people or socialising, so I observed her from the back. That until she noticed me.

At the very moment, I hid behind a tree, my already sickly pale face turned even paler. My veins were already visible through the skin. What if she was dangerous? Was my first thought. Of course it was, considering what I have faced in my childhood. My hands began to shake suddenly. And even if she wasn't dangerous, what if she was a prefect and would tell someone I was out here alone?

My hand clenched on my book. Me and my damned curiousity, always bringing me in trouble. But I couldn't control myself.

I was thinking about running away, but that might bring me into more trouble.

Riley stopped humming when she realized there was someone else there. She turned away pretending not to notice. After taking a small peak in her peripheral vision, she noticed that the person was hiding behind a tree. It was surprisingly, fascinating. Riley came to the sudden realization that she had to make a decision. She could either A). Run, assuming itโ€™s a creature, or worse, a prefect. Or B). Approach the being. Riley went for what seemed like the best choice at the time, B. So she approached this thing. As she got closer, she smiled and realized it was just a girl like her. โ€œHello? My name is Riley. You can stop hiding, Iโ€™m not going to tell.โ€ She said in a soft and curious tone. Her face was kind, yet inquisitive. She looks at the girl and was startled by the big blue eyes staring back at her. This girl had pretty curls, and extremely pale skin. She looked disturbed in a way Riley had never seen before. She looked worn, and had these cool scars on her face. She looked cool. Riley couldnโ€™t help but stare at this new mysterious student she had met in the middle of the night.

A fountain, Memories of home, and Night sounds
"W-What are you doing here out this late?"

I questioned in a quiet voice. My calculating blue eyes observed the beautiful girl standing in front of me.

"A-Are you a veela?"

I asked in a curious tone. I have read about those creatures and she fitted the description perfectly.

"Y-You have a beautiful voice."

I complimented her. I didn't know what to do. I wasn't used to be social. I wasn't used to talk to people or to socialise. I fidgeted awkwardly with my silver locket. It had a raven encarved on it. It suited me. Especially my name, which meant raven in Latin.

I stared at her for some moments, before I noticed I haven't even introduced myself.

"My name is Corvus."

I said quietly.

As I observed her, deep in thoughts, I heard some voice from afar. I reached for my wand, so no matter who or what approached, I was prepared for a fight. 'Better safe than sorry' has been one of the key rules in my childhood. I have mastered the act of sneaking to places I shouldn't be, as well as getting myself out of situation that we're rather unfortunate.

Whatever was approaching, it came closer. My hand clenched on my wand.
