Ashleigh Hazelwood Second Year Gryffindor

Ashleigh (short for Ash) Wisteria Hazelwood is an English-Irish child born to Muggle parents. Her birth father was an English man and her mother is an Irish woman. She was born in England, but after losing her father to a terrible car accident. Ashleigh’s maternal grandmother offered them to move in with her in Ireland because she understood how hard it could be for a single mother to take care of her child alone. Ashleigh was only two years old at that time, so, she barely remembered anything about her birth father. Even though, she wasn’t really sad about not having a father. She only knew from her mom that her father was a good man who truly loved them both very much, and his job was a writer. Ashleigh later found out that he was also the one who gave her the middle name, Wisteria. To honor her paternal grandmother, Wisteria Hazelwood. Funny enough, the name of a beautiful purple flower did end up being her most favorite flower that symbolize everlasting wisdom.

Once they moved to a village, Adare, in County Limerick, Ireland. Her mom gladly took over grandmother’s Flower shop and became the new owner of “Queen Flora”.

Ashleigh had a very normal childhood in Ireland, having a loving grandmother and a hardworking mother who tried her best to spend time with her as much as she could. Ashleigh actually liked to be left alone doing her own thing, but still managed to have a few Muggle friends who are at least genuine and even shared the same love for nature and books. However, her uneventful life changed dramatically, when her first magic happened out of the blue at a new Korean restaurant, and she indirectly became the cupid of bringing her mom with a Korean man named Jin-Ho Song together.

It was quite a funny story to tell because it was Ashleigh’s first accidental magic that somehow helped her mom found her new love, aka her current stepdad. It was pretty well-known to Ashleigh that her mom is a huge fan of Korean food (she likes Korean food too). When she was 8 years old, her mom was very excited about the new Korean restaurant “BBQ Song” that was opened in Limerick, not very far from where they live. Her mom told her that they were going to have dinner at “BBQ Song” and enjoy their mother-daughter time there together.

They visited the restaurant pretty early, but the owner was nice enough to let them enter. When they stepped inside, Ashleigh immediately spotted a living crab on the floor that escaped from the kitchen. Before she could do anything, her mom also noticed the crab she was about to step on. It freaked her out, which caused the woman to lose her balance and fell backwards.

Ashleigh panicked. She didn’t want her mom to get hurt. And just a mere seconds before falling on the ground. It was like the time around her mom stopped, and her entire body floated in midair.

The owner watched in awe, but quickly rushed to catch her mom from falling because he knew it was only a temporary magic that wouldn’t last any longer. Both adults looked into each others' eyes as if they were in their own world while Ashleigh stood there in shock, the mood was ruined when he said to her mom out of pure excitement, “Your kid is a wizard!”

That just earned him a slap in the face from her mom, who was still freaking out. The poor owner got knocked out, and her mom dragged the confused Ashleigh out of the Korean restaurant. They didn’t even try the Korean food that day.

After the incident, Ashleigh and her mom were very shocked when Jin-Ho came to visit them. He told them the truth that he was not just the owner of the Korean restaurant "BBQ Song", he was also secretly a Muggle-born wizard who worked part-time at the Muggle Liaison Office in the Ministry of Magic during daytime, but what shocked them the most was that magic really exist, and there was a magical world full of wizards and magical creatures hidden from the Muggles’ eyes.

On her 11th birthday, Jin-Ho, who married her mother two years ago and now became her new stepdad, handed her one of the best gifts she would never forget in her life: An acceptance letter from Hogwarts.

Ashleigh does have the personality of a Libra. She is cooperative, gentle, and fair-minded. However, she has low tolerance towards people who are mean, and she is not afraid to speak out her mind. People can quickly notice that Ashleigh is more of a countryside type of girl who prefers reading books, baking and going outdoors, being near nature than playing video games or watching TVs like most city kids. During her relax time, she would be like a little bookworm who can read a lot of books in one day but often times she would be a little green thumb who always help her grandmother tend the garden at home.

Every wizard and witch needs a companion. Ash visited the pet store called "Magical Menagerie" with her stepdad and finally found a lovely gray-furred feline as her new friend.

Taking a rest from shopping and enjoying ice-cream alone. Ash saw a lonely girl, and asked her if she would like to share ice-cream with her.
