HISTORY →

Reducio childhood. esmeray olivia rosslyn was born on november 12, 2009 in manchester, england. her older sister, paisley, had been born three years previously, and esme's younger brother milo was born a year and a half after her. she never really grew all that close with her older sister because their personalities were just different enough that it was hard, but esme and milo quickly became close. besides family, esme didn't have many people she would consider friends. even back then, she was quiet enough that not many people noticed her, and while she talked to multiple people at her school often, she wasn't exactly herself with them. eventually though, when esme was six, she met and became best friends with another girl. they only knew each other for a short time, however, because esme's parents suddenly (at least to her) decided to move to her aunt's house in oxford. it took a day or two for esme to get back to her normal self after getting upset about not being able to say goodbye, and even then that only really happened because of her aunt, steph. steph was just one of those people that got along with everyone, and made you feel like you belonged immediately after you met her. her and esme grew close, closer than the rest of the family, and since the rosslyns were staying at her house for a while, they saw her all the time. a painter, steph taught esme a lot about the beauty of nature. a streaming river. a roaring waterfall. crickets, chirping through the night. the soothing sound of the breeze and of the rain. she was also the only person present when esme showed her first sign of magic. although it took her parents and older sister a little while to come to terms with the fact that esme was actually magical, steph and milo believed right away, and they ended up helping convince the rest of their family. so, on september 1st, at king's cross station... esme got onto the hogwarts express and headed off towards her new home. first magic. esme and her aunt steph had been sitting outside, painting, when the breeze knocked over one of esme's containers of paint. the bright red had spilled all over her canvas, creating a large splotch in the middle of the beautiful blue sky she'd just finished painting. turning to her aunt, her eyes wide and just barely starting to sparkle with tears, esme pointed to her canvas. steph saw the giant blob of red and was reaching over to take it and try to fix it up, when her own eyes grew large and a look of total surprise and confusion appeared on her face. when esme turned, the blue sky she'd painted was just that—a blue sky. no trace of red at all. both were surprised, but eventually brushed it off as some trick of the light or mistake. still, this incident hovered towards the front of her mind when esme received her invitation to hogwarts, along with one or two other times something strange like this had happened. things that she'd pushed aside for so long were finally making a little more sense!

Reducio appearance. esme has long, chestnut brown hair that's constantly in her eyes when it's not tied back and eyes that change from honey gold to dark brown depending on the light. her skin is pale, but does tan a little in the summer. her hair is usually pulled back in either a messy bun, braid, or high ponytail, although she does leave it down occasionally. esme is just a little bit over the average height for girls her age, standing at 150 cm.
