✦ @akemi yamamotoFrom the moment Esme had received The Letter—as it would always be known in her head—things had been absolute chaos. First of all, her brother Milo. While he'd been one of the first few people in her family to accept that this whole thing was actually real and not some sort of crazy prank someone had pulled on her, he couldn't seem to stop asking questions. Didn't matter where they were, what they were talking about, what they were doing—constant questions. He also seemed to have entirely forgotten that Esme knew just about as much as he did, which was very little... although even if he hadn't, he'd probably still be asking just as many questions anyway.
Then there was Paisley, her sister, and her parents. The three of them had taken far too long to come to the conclusion that magic was actually real and that Esme apparently possessed some of that magic. Honestly, Esme wasn't even sure they fully believed it until today, when she'd walked through what seemed to be a solid barrier and arrived at Platform 9... and ¾. Not only that, but Paisley was constantly expressing all her doubts out loud, and hearing that all the time when the majority of them were circling around in her own mind didn't help things for Esme either. Her parents... while they didn't voice their opinions quite as much as they had back in the beginning, she could tell that they were skeptical about the entire thing and pretty reluctant to let her go. Without her aunt Steph, Esme knew, she might not have convinced them in time at all.
Steph. She was the main reason for Esme's worries. Or, well, sort of. The biggest worry Esme had was that she'd be all alone for the entire year. Although Steph was her aunt, and therefore over twenty years older than her, Esme saw Steph as her best friend and vice versa. The two were much closer than Esme was to any of her friends her age, anyway. Plus, the only other person the girl trusted as much was her brother, and being a boy, he didn't understand half the things Esme was talking about or feeling.
All these thoughts buzzed around in her head as she hugged her family goodbye one last time and boarded the train. The Hogwarts Express. Going to take her to her new home, her new... family, as they'd put it. Esme wasn't sure she was ready for that. Her place in her original family was perfect—why change a thing? And who said that she'd grow that close to anyone at this magic school? Maybe they'd all be rich and stuck up. Maybe she'd be the only new student, clueless about everything going on around her. Maybe she wouldn't be able to stay as invisible as she liked, maybe the professors would be terrible, maybe, maybe, maybe...
Stop, Esme told herself firmly. Stop, and breathe. Thinking these things isn't going to help. Go find a compartment and make friends. Meet new people. Do something. After a few more deep breaths, Esme began walking again, searching for somewhere to sit. And although she'd told herself to find one with others in it, the girl kept walking until she saw one that was completely empty. Ignoring the fact that she'd walked by plenty of other compartments with only one or two people in them, Esme counted this as a victory. She had to take whatever she could get, right?
Settling into her seat, Esme sighed and her brain went back to all the maybe's.
Maybe, just maybe, things will get better soon.[ 606 words ]

Mentions: None!sorry for the late replyThe first this Kira did when they got on the train was leave.
Straight up left her all alone.
"Sorry... My friends really want to sit with me..." her sister cooed. "Good luck!"
Now Akemi walked through the Hogwarts Express, looking for a place to sit, looking for people to sit with. This shouldn't have been so hard. She was supposed to be the social one. The funny, charismatic girl who could start any conversation. Why couldn't she just slide into a compartment and use one of her usual jokes? Why was she so nervous to talk to anyone? Why was she nervous?
Akemi knew herself quite well, and she knew that she rarely, almost never, was nervous. She made jokes in the stickiest of situations, she always leaped into the unknown... she was a leader. She was also pretty charming, but that wasn't important. The most important thing was finding a seat on this blasted magic train. Finding someone to sit with on this train.
Maybe the problem was that she never messed with magic.
She spent her whole life in a muggle home, with a muggle mum and a wizard father, who was never really in the house. She played muggle sports and hung out with muggles. Her only friends were muggles. She knew she was a half-blood, but the idea of magic seemed like a dream. A distant memory that she couldn't quite remember. Now that she had walked through a perfectly intact wall to Platform 9 and 3/4, she was more confused than ever. Kira was supposed to tell her what to do. Even if she was the most annoying thing to live on this planet, she was the only person she could turn to at this moment, she needed to look for her-
The train whistle blew, snapping Akemi from her trance. She needed to find somewhere to sit...
Quickly, she slid open the door to the compartment to her right and jumped inside, plumping into a seat across from another girl.
Another girl.
Akemi pulled her legs up onto the seat. Come on, Akemi. You're good at people. Say something...
Akemi smiled awkwardly "Hi. I love your hair."

By the time the train whistle blew, Esme had accepted the fact that she would be alone for the rest of the ride to Hogwarts. The steady beating of footfalls outside the door had long since stopped, and she'd had plenty of time to settle in already. In fact, her sketchbook was already in her lap and pencil in her hand when another girl hurriedly jumped into the compartment and onto the seat opposite her. Startled, Esme jumped a little herself, giving her pencil the perfect opportunity to fall onto the floor and roll under the seat, and thus giving herself the perfect opportunity to avoid speaking for a few more seconds as she retrieved it.
When she sat back up, the other girl seemed to be thinking about something, so Esme stayed quiet as well. And then she said a quick hello, and—her hair? She supposed her mom had told her to do something a little nicer with it today. Instead of being down or in some sort of messy bun like usual, she'd french braided her hair until about halfway down on both sides."Oh, um, thank you." With a slightly confused but grateful smile, the eleven year old added, "I'm Esmeray. Or Esme." That was about good for introductions, she thought.
Now she had a slight dilemma. While usually Esme wasn't quite so fond of being the one to start a conversation, she also didn't want the ride to be this awkward for the remaining time (which was plenty long). And plus, talking to this girl might help get her mind off of her family and how scared she was and how much she didn't know and, and—
"It's my first year here. Is it your first year too?" she blurted out suddenly, possibly startling the other soon to be student. "I don't really know anything about magic at all, and..." Her sentence trailed off, which was most definitely a good thing. Esme had never really experienced the whole "talking a lot when you get nervous" sort of thing, although her brother did it often, so who knows what would have come out of her mouth if she kept speaking. Instead, she became almost deathly quiet when scared.
So what was happening right now???
Wincing as she looked up to see the other girl's reply to her sudden burst of unnecessary information, Esme told herself to take a deep breath. They had barely made it out of the station and she was already messing things up. You don't know that, the more reasonable side of her said. You have to look up, hear her response. And after another breath, she did just that.stamina 7 | evasion 6 | strength 4 | wisdom 7 | arc power 8 | accuracy 8 ✦ [ stats ]⠀
