As a pure-blood witch from a well-known family, Ivy often bumped into people she knew at Hogwarts. Her parents were notorious for throwing parties late into the night (or morning) with some of their other pure-blood "friends", and the children were always forced to come along, only to sit in a separate room and stare awkwardly at each other.
It was no less awkward when she met them in the many corridors and hallways of Hogwarts, unsure of whether to approach them or simply walk on by. When she did approach them, the conversations were always awkward and brief, so Ivy made it a rule to never approach someone she knew from the parties unless they were friends.
She was wandering through one of the many corridors of Hogwarts while reading, when she walked into someone. The book tumbled to the ground with her, and she grabbed at empty air before her elbow made contact with one of the suits of armor positioned at the corner. With a clang, it landed on the ground. Ivy landed on the ground, banging her head on the head of the suit.
"Hey, watch where you're going, will you?" Ivy snapped angrily, not yet seeing who she had walked into.
Snatching her book up, she got to her feet and was about to launch an angry rant when she noticed who it was. "Brooklyn?"
The Bellamys and the Pierces were particularly close, and Ivy had seen Brooklyn at one of the parties last summer, before she started at Hogwarts. Ivy remembered her mother pulling her to a side and telling her that the blonde girl in the green dress was attending Hogwarts as well, and that she would make a good friend.
She hadn't been paying much attention to her mother, as her trouble-making younger sister, Alison, was standing dangerously close to the punch bowl and looked as though she were about to tip it over. Ivy's top priority had been to keep her sister out of trouble, not to make friends with someone she hardly knew. She had taken note of the girl, though, memorizing her face and name and promising her mother she would seek her out once she got to the school.
But once Ivy had gotten to Hogwarts, she had completely forgotten about Brooklyn Pierce - that is, until now.

Brooklyn had just come out of this horrible place called a library and was on his way to her room to drop these things off.
Originally from a rich thoroughbred family, she welcomed guests, friends of her parents, all of the pure race. The Pierces were known for their purity. None of their ancestors had frequented half-bloods or muggle-borns. Brooke only knew a few Half-Bloods because they rejected their Muggle family, but there were so few. It didn't bother her. She was very attached to the supremacy of blood, because of this, she did not have many friends at Hogwarts, and even less in her house.
Fortunately, she had her brother, who spent as much time with her as possible, as well as letters from her family that arrived in the thousands, to her delight. They asked her every day to sympathize with someone, but everyone she saw was of Muggle origin. "What a shame to welcome Mudblood," she thought. There were even some in Slytherin, the house of the pure, like Brooklyn. Damn. Why did she have to land in an impure house?
Lost in these thoughts, she did not see the girl coming in front of her and went inside her.

- Hey, watch where you're going, will you?

But finally! It was she who was nose in a book!

- Brooklyn?
Looking up at this girl who knew her first name, she realized that they already knew each other. They had never spoken, but they were crossed at a party given by the parents of this girl.

- Ivy?

Bellamy and Pierce were two very close families. It was fun to see her here, she had completely forgotten that she too had to go to Hogwarts.

"Yes, that's me," the Gryffindor replied, relieved that she hadn't been mistaken. She held out a hand to help Brooklyn up. "Sorry I bumped into you," Ivy added as an afterthought. Apologies did not come naturally to her.

"How are you?" Ivy asked as they turned a corner. "Last time I saw you, it was at that musical soiree my parents threw. They made me play the piano." She made a face. "Do you remember my little sister? She was the one in the green dress - I think she spilled punch all over your mother. It was quite the spectacle." She pursed her lips in an attempt to stop herself smiling. Lady Pierce had not taken kindly to the punch, and had jumped around screeching, her canary yellow dress soaked through with the red drink Alison had "accidentally" knocked over.

"So... you're in Hufflepuff?" Ivy asked, regarding the girl's yellow tie. "I'm in Gryffindor. Funny, isn't it? Our families wanted us to be in Slytherin, but neither of us got in. How's life with the badgers? They all seem to be pretty nice from what I can tell."

A little too nice, actually. They were always smiling and asking how you were. It was actually a little annoying, in Ivy's opinion, but she decided not to share this information with Brooklyn as the other girl was, in fact, a Hufflepuff herself.

"Gryffindor's not actually as bad as I thought it would be," Ivy continued with a shrug. "I mean, my parents are disappointed that I'm not a Slytherin, but there's nothing they can do about it. Alison, on the other hand," Ivy paused and smiled, "she's delighted." Her rebellious sister was pleased with anything that offended their elitist parents.

Yes, she remembered that day well. It was the last time she had seen her mother, who had stayed in France. But she was exceptionally revenue for this evening because she wanted to spend time with Anthony and Brooklyn before they leave.

- Yes, I remember well. She had a fit when dad and I took her back to her hotel! Besides, he thanks your little sister and he rewards him an express delivery of Chocolate Frogs!

The question bothered Brooke a bit. How is it with badgers? She didn't know. She was never in the common room, she spent her time in the corridors or the park. The only time she was in the common room, she was just passing by to go to her dorm.

- It's...

She was looking for these words.

- I don't like it. You know my family and we hate Muggles. Well, Hufflepuff, there is only that. I am never in the common room. And then, they're all too nice, it's super annoying. But hey, apparently it's my house, I can't change it anymore! But hey, I stay most of the time with Anthony, he's my brother, I don't know if you remember him. It's cool to be with him, but I don't have many friends so ... it's boring. But, it's my home!

Ivy had forgotten that the Pierces were very anti-Muggle - perhaps the most extreme family she knew, and that was saying something. The Bellamys tried to bring their children up to hate all things related to Muggles as well, but it didn't work.

Ivy just didn't see the point. They had families and thoughts and emotions, just like her - the only difference was that they did not have magic running through their veins. And Muggleborns didn't steal magic - it was simply a matter of chance and luck.

Hearing Brooklyn talk about Muggles in such an inferior way made her stomach twist, as if she were back in Bellamy Manor, listening to one of her mother's angry tirades about Muggles.

"So... you still hate Muggles?" Ivy's tone held a note of accusation. "I never really got why our parents hated all things related to Muggles. Some of the nicest people I know are Muggleborns." She thought of Willow Anderson, a sweet Hufflepuff she'd met in the library. The Muggleborn was probably the nicest person Ivy knew.

"Muggleborns don't steal magic, Brooklyn," Ivy sighed. "I'm don't know why you don't understand this. Our parents are wrong. They're not evil, vile people who will attack you if you have magic. Have you talked to some of the Muggleborns here? Some of them can be mean, but purebloods can be just as horrible, if not, worse!" Ivy was rather proud of herself, actually - not of the rant, but of how far she had come with her view of Muggles. She could only hope that Brooklyn would follow suit.

Ivy did not understand. It was not his education that gave him this nameless hatred. Nor did she think they were stealing magic.

- You do not understand. I'm not saying they steal magic. But in fact, this is not untrue. We sorcerers are born to exercise magic. It's innate. They weren't born for that. I completely agree, all this sharing, but there is a limit. Money, family and magic. And I spoke to Muggle-borns here. One was sure to be the center of the world because he was Muggle, the other didn't even know what it meant. and even, I never had the ... feel with people of Muggle origin. I prefer to be with people like me.

She understood that Ivy did not understand correctly. But it hurt her. Admittedly, it was the first time they had spoken, but she found it very dry. She spoke of purebloods as if she were not one. And then Brooke was brought up that way. She couldn't change. Nothing could. For now, she prefers to make a living as she was now. If later she wanted to change, she would. But for now it suited him.

- If it bothers you that much, tell me now. I would like us to become friends, but there's no point in trying if you can't bear this from me.

Interacting with @Brooklyn Pierce
"You're right, I don't understand. People like you - that's a delusion, because everyone in this castle is like you - we're all magical, we were all born with the ability to do magic." Ivy shook her head. Once she had been just like her - Muggle-hating and narrow-minded. But her older sister had shown her how wonderful the Muggle world actually was, and although Lillian had left, Ivy's newfound tolerance did not. She was not obsessed with Muggles - her family forbade it - but she did not hate Muggles as much as she used to.

"Friends?" Ivy echoed. She shook her head and smiled softly in disbelief. Ivy did not believe that she and Brooklyn could become friends, not truly, anyway. The Hufflepuff reminded Ivy too much of life back at home - if it could even be called a home. The only thing that had kept Ivy there was Alison. "Our parents would applaud us for it, but I don't think so. It was nice to see you, though." She offered Brooklyn a small smile. "I wish you'd have a change of heart about Muggles, but if you won't change... I don't suppose there's much I can do about it. Have a nice day, Brooklyn."

With a heavy heart and memories of her family flooding her mind, Ivy walked ahead, anticipating her parents' anger when they realised she had turned down Brooklyn Pierce's offer of friendship. Alison, though, would be thrilled.
Ivy leaves the thread.
