Department of Magical Law Enforcement | Cabin of Asteria CovenFencing was an unfamiliar sport for the Wizarding world. Although the idea of it was always bound by aristocrats or people who had significant taste, which may not seem that unfamiliar after all. It is more than hitting targets, as Fencing is often called "chess at the speed of light." Every attack is a question; every parry is an answer.
On the other half of the training area, significantly separated from the others by a series of low wooden barriers, lies the fencing area. Two narrow strips of packed earth, measuring 14 meters long and 2 meters wide, make up the perfect setup for an intense match. Surrounding this are carefully placed boundary markers, placed around each strip. The piste serves its purpose, and there the match will begin.
The crowd circled at a distance around the match. Where the players took their steps onto the fencing strip, each opposite the other. The tension was hard not to give away. Each held their foil.
Chatt took position between them. Raising his hand.
“En Garde!”
Each student poised themselves into position.
“Ready?”
A pause.
“And Begin!”

Fencing Match #8
Fencing was a no brainer. There was no world--there was no universe--where Josephine Byrne was offered the chance to fight with swords and she didn't take it. She had no real idea of what she was doing, but it didn't matter, because swords were cool and she wanted to wield one, even if it made a complete fool out of her.
A wide grin kept pulling at the corners of her mouth as she was called to step onto the piste and she started donning the equipment.
"Hiya," she told her opponent, a Ravenclaw girl she recognised from Jeremy's fact booth. She'd gotten the eagle fact, which must have been a little disappointing. "It's a bit strange that they make us wear these, isn't it?" She pointed at her own helmetty thing. "Bludgers seem a lot more dangerous than these and no one ever wears a helmet for those. Maybe it's so it's more authentic to the way muggles do it." It seemed to Jo that if magic was good enough to fix up Quidditch injuries, it should be more than good enough for a muggle sport.
She gave her blade a couple of test swings, and took up her spot. It was a little finicky, getting the ready pose right, but she managed it and stood there, her grin hidden behind her mask, bracing herself for the call out that would signal the beginning of the match.

Fawkes didn't know how to fence beyond the basics. So why was she here fencing against someone who clearly had more experience than her? Well perhaps the answer to that was Raphael. Her french cousin had grown up watching his older sister fence and had learnt how to fence from her as well. She was also the one who taught Fawkes the basics of fencing. But her teaching Fawkes to fence was not why she was here.
After dragging Raphael all around the camp, she had promised him she would partake in something of his choice. In this case, it was a fencing match. Involuntarily, she had been made to sign up and now she was facing her opponent.
She recognised the girl from the fact booth. An upcoming first year if Fawkes remembered correctly. Ello! Fawkes greeted back as she put her own helmet on. I assume it's so that we don't poke each other's eyes out with the sword. Bludgers kinda just hit your entire face rather than target your eye specifically you know? She said cheerfully and taking her stance to begin the match. She waited for the signal ready to do whatever necessary to get her points and win.

It was already the 8th match of the day.
He wondered his partner— Avery— held up until now. The fresh morning air quickly died down as the Afternoon came. His brown locks of what can be called, hair, settled down above his head. He needn't to fix it casually every so often, saving face.
Opponents of this match were quite the cheery ones. Firm in their armory, the atmosphere of theirs became rainbows and butterflies. Each held some slight familiarity in the back of Chatt's mind, but after all he'd been seeing people come and go ever so often. The memorization of facial features became complicated after the 10th— 13th person he'd met today? But he held his posture high, Summer Camp was still starting after all.
As his last word slid off this tongue, the two charged into each other.
Josephine, taking the offensive side became quite eager to move forward. Being fond of her foil as if this wasn't the first year's first. As their swords tackled with one another, the blades finding length in each. Thorough Chatt's eyes followed, intensity could blind the eyes.
At the instant it became intense, Josephine went with a Feint, mimicking an attack quickly, capturing Fawkes slightly off-guard. But surely this Duelling captain had seen more surprises than that. Following through, her retort of each blade back at her became successful. The blades danced around each other with no end to it, until a foot was out of the piste—
"Halt! Hey. I wasn't done commentating. Whtvr.
"No points given. Reset." His voice rang out loud.
Each held their ground. Enthusiasm became determination or at least a mix of it.
"Ready? Fence!
Once more he was wondering how Avery was holding up.

Fencing Match #8
Jo had to admit that putting out her eye with the tip of the foil did not sound appealing, even if it could get easily reversed by a mediwizard. She was less sure that getting hit with a bludger would be much more pleasant. Maybe the adults in charge simply did not trust the kids refereeing to administer the requisite aid in a timely manner.
In the end, she had to put her endlessly wondering thoughts out of mind as the beginning of the bout was called, and her blade became the center of her focus. Well, and her opponent's blade, which was trickier that one might've thought. It felt like she needed more eyes than she actually had as she dove in headfirst, thrusting her blade in the vague direction of her opponent's upper chest, before pulling it back and angling it backward, hoping she might trick Fawkes into an opening. The other girl was quick, though, and Jo's movements less than precise, and soon their blades were clashing and she felt a little lost, unsure of what she was trying to accomplish other than trying to keep Fawkes' blade from touching her.
It was a bit of a relief when the bout was called. At least she hadn't lost a point.
"That was fun!" she exclaimed, swishing her blade a few times again as she went to re-take her spot. It made her feel like a pirate.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━sta 06|eva 07| str 03| wis 09| arc 07| acc 08━━━━━━ Prodigal Astronomy Learner | Wandmaker ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━As soon as the match had begun, Fawkes' opponent had lunged forward with an attack. She immediately went to dodge but it seemed like the attack was only done to distract her and get a reaction out of her. Almost by reflex, she was able to dodge the next attack incoming.
Duelling sure did have its benefits. Her reaction time was higher than it had been prior and she was able to dodge the incoming attacks much easier as well. Similarly, duelling had also improved her own attacking capabilities. She was able to parry each attack thrown at her by her opponent. Fawkes did her best to try and touch her opponent with her blade but she was failing quite badly at doing so. Their blades just kept clashing over and over with neither making any real progress with the match. Soon, their moderator called them to a halt and had them take their positions again.
Well she hadn't gained a point sadly but thankfully neither had her opponent. They were both still at 0, and both still eager to win. Fawkes turned the sword over in her hand a couple of times, similar to how she turned her wand over after every spell cast in a duel. She then took her stance again.
