Cookie Decorating Table

100 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS
──── ୨୧ ────
Cookie Decorating & Hot Cocoa

It was highly plausible that students would find their perception of time tossed and turned as they entered the Great Hall. The gathering place was now adorned with decorations typically associated only with the Christmas season. Garlands, mistletoes, and hollies adorned the hall, transforming the Great Hall into some winter wonderland. They sparkled under the glistening snow that drifted from the enchanted ceiling in a never-ending spiral of creation and evanescence. The scent of gingerbread and cocoa evoked imagination of a warm fireplace, and the hall was so merrily illuminated such that a radiant anticipation for holiday cheer filled the air. A cardboard cutout of Headmaster Lear was of course also imperative in creating atmosphere. One would think that they had travelled three months or so into the future; Santa was defrosting far too soon, and the Christmas tree being levitated out of the storage so early in the year was certainly unprecedented. Those who did not keep their minds occupied with counting down the days until Christmas likely found themselves thoroughly confused by the setup; Ebony would be surprised if anybody made the deduction that it was a hundred days before Christmas.
It was hard to believe that the Ravenclaw was a part of the group of prefects (along with @Jrue Peterson and @Skylar Blue) who had organised the celebratory event — she, of all people. The brunette had only recently been newly branded as a prefect, which was in itself already unexpected. To be bestowed such responsibility was strange; she never would have envisioned herself hosting community events and chasing after particularly devious first years who enjoyed breaking rules, but here she was. On top of that, her presence at a celebration too was unprecedented, a rarity. The trivialities of festivals bored her, the merry laughs forming nothing but layers of annoyance at the sound. But there was something rather special about celebrating a holiday before it came — there was a novel sense of wonder and anticipation.
And so there the Ravenclaw prefect stood, positioned behind a table littered with a copious amount of cookies in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some were shaped in the form of the classic gingerbread man; some were shaped like snowflakes; some were so unnaturally large, comparable to the size of the palm, while others were miniscule. The Christmas spirit was evident. Some sat in irregular shapes, ready to be cut and formed by the decorator; they were completely left to the students' creative discretion. Standing dangerously close to the cookies was a mug of warm cocoa that the students were free to enjoy. Jrue was situated near a plethora of stationary, complete with ribbons and glitter and sparkles and lace and all the glitzy supplies that Ebony preferred to keep a distance from. Skylar was near the tree, blank baubles and ornaments ready to be decorated and then placed onto the tree to weigh it down.
As students began to conglomerate before the cookie decorating station, the Ravenclaw cleared her throat and then plastered on an unusually chipper smile. "Hello, everyone! Merry... early Christmas! Welcome to cookie decorating," she announced with a beam — there was a slight pause as she deliberated upon her next words. It had been a while since the girl had spoken before such a crowd. She decided against introducing herself, for she was not to become the focal point — the cookies and celebrations were. "Feel free to decorate any of these cookies, just come and grab one. There are different flavours — gingerbread, peppermint, sugar..." Ebony trailed off as she attempted to recall all the distinct, varying cookie flavourings that the house elves had prepared in the kitchen. She ultimately decided that such details were not of great importance.
"There is coloured frosting that you can use in your designs as well, so please do let loose that creativity!" She motioned at the vibrantly tinted frosting that lay in piping bags on the table; they were coloured in such ardently bright shades that one had to wonder what had to be done to achieve such oversaturated colours. "You may decorate the cookies however you please, like so." Grabbing a bag of frosting and a cookie, the Ravenclaw quickly outlined a shaky snowflake. She was skilled in drawing, but decoration with frosting was an entirely different skill. "I'm sure all of you can do better than me, but do ask for help if you need it! Maybe consider gifting a cookie to someone special or dear to you in celebration of this fun day."
With that, Ebony remained poised behind the table with a bag of frosting in one hand and the mug of cocoa weighing in the other, ready to help should her assistance be deemed necessary.

𝕹othing can prepare Robin for what he is about to do. Really, it feels weird and unsettling to see him at cutesy cookie decorating table, but that's where he is right now. The first half of this month went by pretty quickly, some things happened, but not too important to note. Except for, of course, Robin having this unexplainable feeling occasionally rising from his heart to his ears and turning them red.
Who is he kidding? Robin is a smart boy, he can think of exactly what that meant. What, or who was he thinking about when his heart pounded like when he's nervous, but different in the sense that this kind of nervous is somewhat pleasant? Who is he standing in front of when he would prefer not to go back to his room and read, and instead keep standing there even if nothing was said between the two?
I might like Mikaela Hendricks. Robin concluded that quite quickly after noticing all the aforementioned symptoms, but he wasn't going to do anything about it. His feelings aren't important in the grand scheme of things, not even higher on his priority list than studies. Furthermore, the boy wouldn't want to risk throwing away his friendship with Mikaela just because of some impulsive emotions. She is someone he wants to know and be familiar with as a friend in the long term. She's smart, they might even be colleagues in the far future if she decides to pursue research. If Robin had to choose between "50% her liking him back but 50% their friendship gone" and "100% friends forever" he'd choose the latter.
Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt to give her some cookies, right? Robin recalled hearing either from herself or someone else that her favorite flavor is chocolate, so that's what he grabbed after the Ravenclaw prefect hosting the table gave them the permission. Now, what to decorate? Drawing isn't Robin's strong suit, using unconventional tools like icing make it infinitely harder. He grabbed a total three cookies after looking around nervously, unsure if that's allowed. After giving it some thought, the boy drew three things, one on each cookie: a blue raven, a black cat, and purple words saying "Merry Christmas" in a shortened fashion.
He wasn't exactly happy with the end product, but it was the best the boy could do. He also already took three cookies, no way he's embarrassing himself to take more. Asking the prefect or anyone else for help is also not on the table, what if they know Mikaela and realize something? More embarrassment.
As the prefect Ebony Vetra came over to pour some more hot cocoa into Robin's cup, he positioned his hands above his cookies in attempt to hide them, then cleared his throat to speak: "Miss Vetra, are there any bags we can use to store these cookies?"

After watching her finished ornament hung on the tree, Xio's stomach growled lowly in a way that made her stop and listen like someone had called her name. Almost immediately, her mouth watered at the thought of chowing down on the freshly made gingerbread spread just at the nearby station.
As she got closer to the station though, her impulsive hunger desires simmered down as she realized it was another craft. She saw the large round gingerbreads and the smaller ones nearby and immediately had a fun thought. She grabbed a plate, added one of the large round cookies, 3-4 of the smaller ones, and grabbed red, green, and white icing.
Once seated, she placed the smaller cookies aside and carefully started to break apart the larger round cookie, hurriedly eating the crumbs or bits as it crumbled between her fingers, still a mess of cookie gathered in her lap. Once she had one semi-large cookie and a handful of broken up pieces, she began to use the white icing to attach the broken up pieces to start building a house-like shape. The icing at first wouldn't stick or hold the broken up pieces of gingerbread but with stubborn determination, she managed to make it at least look like a cobblestone gingerbread house. The roof was a trickier part with the broken pieces so she started snacking on those pieces instead and used the smaller round cookies to barely assemble a makeshift roof, it was crooked.
But once the lopsided and leaning gingerbread cobblestone house was standing for more then 5 seconds, which Xio exaggerated by holding her hands up like when they call the timer for food sculpture competitions, then she started using the red and green icing to add color, "string lights", "weeds", and even a "flower box" that sat at the "entrance" of the gingerbread house.
By the time Xio had finished her lego-stacked gingerbread house, her hunger had been satisfied with the snacking of gingerbread scraps, candy, and icing. She wouldn't have wanted to eat it even if she wanted to, she was genuinely impressed that it was "leaning" in the first place.

Cookie Decorating Table
After finishing both the card-making and ornament decorating, Bella noticed the smell of cookies and cocoa in the air. Suddenly yearning for something sweet to eat, Bella rushed over to the cookies section, where she saw the pile of cookies and frosting on the table. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to eat the cookies, but she just shrugged and looked around to see if there were any signs that said NO EATING THE COOKIES. Since there were none, she grabbed one gingerbread cookie and bit into it.
It tasted SO good. The cookie melted in her mouth, yet it was somehow still crunchy enough to have texture and taste. It tasted like magic.
"Oops, I think I am supposed to decorate it, not eat it!" Bella scolded herself, grinning. She grabbed another cookie shaped like a Christmas tree, some red and green frosting, and sprinkles. Bella squeezed some frosting out, ultimately making a huge mess, but she was having too much fun to care. And everybody at that station was also making a mess, but everyone was talking and laughing.
"Done!" Bella muttered. She held the cookie up against the light and saw it shine through. Now, with no one to give it to yet, and she knew she couldn't save the cookie; she decided to just eat it.
"Just today, just this once, should I eat something like this," she told herself through a mouthful of frosting and cooking, enjoying herself completely.
Then, she decided to make another one, because why not?

Cookie Decorating Table
When I stepped into the Great Hall, I was confused. It was nowhere near Christmas; that was not for another … I counted a hundred days on my fingers. Why were there Christmas decorations this early? Wreaths of holly decorated the walls, giant gingerbread figures that looked exactly like the Hogwarts castle itself, and mistletoe hung from the enchanted ceiling. It was impossible to miss.
After I finally managed to peel myself away from the unusual additions to the Great Hall, I noticed that the tables had been split into three areas: one for Card Making, where Jrue Peterson was, another for Cookie Decorating with @Ebony Vetra, and the final table was for Ornaments, where Skylar Blue was stationed. As I had a passion for baking, it seemed only right to head over to the Cookie Decorating section.
I made my way over to the table. It was covered with plates, which were each filled with different flavours of cookies to the point where they were in danger of falling. Ebony saw me and greeted me. “Merry Early Christmas!” She grinned and I sat down.
But what flavour to pick? This was impossible: all my favourites were there. Peppermint, gingerbread, sugar, and even Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum! I decided that there was only one way to choose which to decorate. Take one of each flavour in my reach. Within two minutes my plate had a peppermint, red velvet, chocolate frog and butterbeer flavoured cookies.
I started decorating the peppermint biscuit, painting the crumbly cookie in red, purple, green and yellow. It looked as though a confetti bomb had exploded over it. Just to add to the rainbow, I covered the cookie in tiny sprinkles in the shape of ravens. I decided to give each cookie a name after I had finished icing them. I christened the peppermint biscuit ‘Minty Colour Bomb.’
The red velvet cookie was soon painted white. It looked like snow was falling onto it, the miniscule sprinkles I added were snowflakes. Pale blue icing made the cookie look like ice. The red velvet was named ‘Frosty Mornings.’ The smell was overpowering; I could not help but take a little nibble. Delicious! In seconds, the cookie had disappeared.
The next cookie to be decorated was the Chocolate Frog flavoured one. When I picked it up, something slipped out from underneath. It was a card! To be specific, it was the Silver Bellatrix Lestrange card. I was happy, as I did not have many cards.
After finishing the peppermint cookie, red velvet biscuit and the Chocolate Frog macaroon, I noticed the smell of hot cocoa in the air. I found myself suddenly dreaming that the hot chocolate was in my mouth, as I was rather cold because of how cold the day was. I think that Ebony saw me looking at the mugs filled with the steaming, brown liquid that had just been brought out and placed on the table. My mouth watered immediately. Then Ebony passed me one of the mugs and poured in the hot cocoa. I could see three giant marshmallows bobbing up and down in the frothy cocoa.
In all of my excitement over the hot cocoa, I had forgotten about my final cookie. It was the butterbeer flavour! I chose not to decorate this cookie and instead dip it in the hot cocoa. It was delicious! I tried the peppermint. It was… minty, and hard to describe otherwise. The chocolate frog flavoured biscuit was chocolatey and melted in my mouth. I fished out the marshmallows, which exploded in my mouth.
One girl next to me offered me another cookie, but I declined, as I was bursting.

Cookie Decorating Table

Date: 16 September
Location: Great Hall
It was the beginning of the school year, the Hogwarts Castle was waking up from the summer holidays. Autumn dressed the trees in bright colours. The most cosy and beautiful season has began.
I was wandering around the castle with my cat Isida, when I heard some noice coming from the Great Hall. "No-one is supposed to be there now" - I thought, heading there. When I opened a heavy wooden door, before my eyes appeared a mass of Christmas decorations, hanging all over the Great Hall. There were garlands and hollies, glittering snow falling from the magical ceiling and an enormous Christmas tree. The three tables were decorated with different Christmas stuff. There were students standing near them, doing something. "Wow!" - I gasped, observing all this beauty. My nose smelled the aromatic smell of ginger coming from one of the tables, so I went there. The table was wonderfully decorated with different cookies. Students decorated cookies themselves as they like.
I walked past the table, observing its all beauty. Oh, how many different cookie-shapes there were! Classic gingerbread man, snowflakes shaped cookies, large cookies, that were the size of your palm, tiny ones and irregularly shaped cookies, which you could shape yourself. Moreover, there were tones of bright frosting and sprinkles. I took the snowflake cookie, that was smelling delicious, and picked a light-blue frosting. However, when I was ready to paint, the frosting in my hand didn't want to draw on the cookie. It drew very hard compared to the markers or paint. I turned around and saw how one of the students carefully drew with frosting, which appeared magically perfect. I saw, that they push the frosting slightly, nor like me, that I was pushing it very hard. Also, they almost didn't touch the cookie, the frosting was lying down by itself.
I covered into the process - it was so satisfying! After a few tries, I finally was able to deal with the frosting and after that nobody could stop me. I drew different ornaments, experimented with the colours and shapes. I was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
After I made four cookies, my arms hurt a bit, so I took a cup of hot chocolate and walked to the Christmas tree. One cookie I made for my family, I decided to send it to them, as a Christmas present. "I hope an owl won't eat it during flying, because it smells so delicious," - I thought, smiling, as I imagined that picture. Second cookie I made for my cat, Isida. I know that cats are not allowed to eat human food, but she looked at me imploringly whole time I was making them, so I couldn't resist doing one for her. Third I made for my friend and fourth one was for me. (How could I make cookies and not try one?)

As she made her way to see what all the fuss was about, a greeting was made by an older student. No, Prefect? She was almost sure of it. Cookie decoration? Maybe Lunette would appreciate one. Truth be told, Solène wasn’t entirely sure what her little sister was up to now that she was gone. The poor governesses were probably taking the brunt of her pranks now. Well… I’m here. I might as well join in. With that in mind, she made her way to acquire a mug of hot cocoa and a couple of sugar cookies to decorate. On top of that, she would snag some red and white frosting and, if she were lucky, some gold sprinkles before making her way to a spot.
Solène would carefully unload the supplies onto a table before setting her black canvas messenger bag at her feet, looping her foot through the shoulder strap so no one could take off with it. Something she learned the hard way at home after her sister ran off with it on more than one occasion. Rigel, her cat, would jump onto the bench and loaf next to her, copper eyes observing everyone around them. Once settled, she would take a sip of the cocoa, letting it warm her from the inside out, before mixing the red and white to make pink frosting. She was not a very creative person and these were going to be very ugly pink and gold cookies, but they were the colors her sister liked, so perhaps she wouldn’t care.

Christmas cookies Errand:
The table was filled to the brim with supplies and baking. Some colourful, filled frosting piping bags, different-shaped cookies, and lots of edible decorations. Amalia stood still for a second. Mentally picturing her crafting process, what she would need and how she could prevent as much mess as possible. She wasn’t used to being neat while crafting, but she needed to mind it a bit more lest she disturbed some of the other students. She didn’t want to be known as the messy first-year student. She blew a wild piece of her out of her face in frustration. They had already escaped their prison, and it wasn’t even midday yet.
Further on, she grabbed a couple of regular round cookies, some marshmallows, and white frosting. She had a splendid idea. One that would forgive her if she messed the frosting up a bit. Actually, it might even be in theme if it was uneven. She planned to make ‘melting snowmen’.
Amalia started making big white blobs of frosting, leaving a bit on the sides empty, to make sure the shapes could be adjusted to her liking. She placed a marshmallow on top of it, off to the side. So it would resemble a head. Taking a step back, she decided it looked a bit empty. Almost soulless. Not her thing, she needed details and fast. Something to make it her own.
She went back to the decoration table and grabbed a few smaller tubes. These had frosting coming out of the very fine tip. Some red and black for the scarves and faces. Then she got started with the details. She made the faces as if they were melting already. Lowering some of the mouth, putting one eye lower than the other. Then the scarves came. They looked a bit crooked sometimes, but she decided that the snowmen had melted to much for them to stay on neatly.
She smiled, that was it. So much better. Even small things can upgrade a craft. It didn’t always have to be go big or go home. This was enough for her.
To treat herself, she went and got a delightful cup of hot chocolate. She gave a thankful nod to the kind prefect and got herself seated again. She leaned over a bit, at her neighbours, to see what they were doing.
Now she just needed to make a dozen more of these cookies to share. Amalia straightened her shoulders and got to work.

"Dialogue"
Christmas! Sofia's second favourite time of year, just behind fall / autumnal time of year. So of course she was happy that this early on she could celebrate. She was practically bouncing on her toes while looking over the great hall and the decorations being put up.
Walking into the hall Sofia could feel the excitement in the air and the atmosphere was alive with celebration. In every corner of the hall there was someone laughing or chatting or creating. There were 3 tables, one for card making, ornaments, and the last one which caught her eye the most, cookie decorating.
She walked over to the cookie decorating table, there were cookies in all sorts of Christmas shapes, Christmas trees, snowflakes, gingerbread people, and even stockings! Her hands tingled, she just wanted to get stuck right in. Bowls of colourful icing were scattered across the table, alongside jars filled with sprinkles, edible glitter, and tiny sugar decorations.
"Oh my gosh..... there's so many options, what do I start with." Sofia whispered, her eyes shining brightly with excitement as she took in the colourful array of cookies and decorations.
For a moment, Sofia simply stood there, trying to decide which one deserved her attention first. Her gaze travelled from the little gingerbread people to the delicate snowflakes before finally settling on a Christmas tree-shaped cookie. With a small, excited smile, she carefully picked it up and brought it closer, turning it over in her hands as if inspecting a blank canvas.
"I think I'll start with this one..." she murmured, her smile growing as she reached for a bowl of green icing. Green seemed like the obvious choice for a Christmas tree.
Sofia carefully squeezed some icing onto the cookie, attempting to create neat little branches. It started off rather well, but after a few moments, the lines became a little more uneven than she had intended. Rather than being discouraged, she simply giggled and looked for a way to fix it.
Her eyes landed on a bowl of sprinkles, she let out a gasp. "Ah...perfect."
She scooped up the silver , red and green sprinkles. She sprinkled them on top, generously then reached for some edible glitter. The sparkles excited her and she might have got a bit too excited, and doused the entire cookie in glitter.
"Oops" She giggled quietly. "That might have been a bit too much."
She gently sweeped the excess glitter off and admired her work. It certainly wasn't perfect, but that didn't matter to Sofia, Christmas wasn't about perfect, Christmas was about joy and celebration, spending time with those who appreciate and love you. Although Sofia wasn't at home with her family, and it was her first year at hogwarts, she could already tell that it was going to be magical.
She wandered over and placed her cookie down admiring all the other decorated cookies. She was almost tempted to make another but she knew she had to pace herself and there was still 2 other tables of ornaments and card making waiting for her.
She couldn't wait to join in the fun and see everyone else's amazing designs.
Sofia could already tell that this was lining up to be one of the best Christmas in a long time. And she couldn't wait to go home and tell her parents everything she had got up to. But first, she had to focus on moving onto the next station.
But what would she choose, Card Making or Ornaments? She weighed up her options. Card making was something she was used to as back in the muggle world you would often make card for your family and friends but ornaments was more new and she liked the look of the way they were hung up.
Such a hard choice!

Cookie Decorating Table

The sumptuous smell of cooking dough and hot cocoa wafted over her senses, invoking childhood memories of sitting warmly by the hearth, holding a mug of hot chocolate, mouth full of buttery cookies, her mother softly playing the piano, her father playing chess with her grandfather in the corner.
Wandering from the Card Decorating Table and quite happily pocketing the card she just made, Rosamund found herself subconsciously following that wonderful smell towards another table covered with cookies of all shapes and forms and sizes. Looking at the copious amount of frosting of various colors and shades, she deduced that this might be a cookie decorating station.
Now Rosamund had a lot of questions. What do they do with the cookie afterwards? Do they eat it? Do they preserve and keep it until the actual holidays? She reckoned that there may be spells that do just that, but that's just so far away still. Do they give it away? How many were they allowed to get? What if she just ate it right then and there?
At that, her body promptly reminded her that she still haven't had any breakfast yet. She then decided that since there weren't really any instructions otherwise, she's technically allowed to pocket some for breakfast.
Fetching herself a steaming mug of hot cocoa, she checked out the ones with chocolate chips in it and got a couple of normal-looking ones. She was going to eat them anyway; there was no point in going crazy with it. Besides, she could try making a weird one later.
In her peripheral vision, she noticed a pile of cookies with raisins in it! She gasped and excitedly got a handful. So, I love raisins. Sue me. She quickly popped a fun-sized one in her mouth and sighed happily at the magnificent burst of flavors. After sneaking a couple more in her pocket, she fetched some randomly colored frosting and made space at the table.
Taking a sip from her mug, she briefly paused to appreciate the rich, creamy taste of chocolate on her tongue. Then she took a chocolate chip cookie, considered it for a bit, turning this and that, shrugged, and then covered the top liberally in white frosting. Then she took green and red frosting and made random lines and squiggles over it. As she was starting to do the second cookie, she had to admit that it was unexpectedly meditative.
The pile of cookies that she decorated on the side steadily grew, even as she sneaked to eat more than a couple cookies and had her mug of ambrosia refilled.
Looking at the pile, she realized that she did indeed accidentally made one too many. She briefly wondered if she'd be allowed to take all of them and keep as midnight snack for later. Considering that they've been essentially given free reign, she reckoned that there may even have been some who just pocketed a couple of cookies didn't even bother to decorate them.
But then again, isn't Yule historically supposed to be a time of feasting and drinking and toasting to the gods and the ancestors? Even Christmas—its mutated and appropriated version—was all about giving gifts?
She suddenly remembered that she did have a Christmas card in her pocket that she was about to send. Making a decision, she went back to the Card Decorating Table, waved at the prefect in-charge, casually took a small card and borrowed a quill. After penning a short message for her friend Perry, she returned to the Cookie Table, asked for a paper bag, put in most of the cookies she decorated, sealed it and attached the small note card.
Satisfied, she left the table and headed towards the last station.
