Damaris walked through the corridors of Hogwarts, lost in thought after a long day of classesโdays filled with new information, spells, and the experiences that were gradually transforming her into the witch she had longed to become since the end of her first year.
"Classes were great... though I would have preferred a good coffee instead of pumpkin juice," she mused, running her hand from her forehead to her hair and carefully sliding her fingers through her curls. What she detested mostโaside from starting the day without coffee (something she would have to endure throughout the school year)โwas messing up the curls she spent so much effort styling every morning; it put her in a foul mood, worse even than hearing a baby Mandrake scream when pulled from its pot. As she walked, she thought about her classes for the year; there were several that appealed to her and that she was eager to master, while others interested her less.
"Don't be silly; you need to focus on getting good grades" she told herself quietly, knowing that if she let her lack of interest in certain subjects get the better of her, she wouldn't put in the effort to succeedโand that wasn't what she wanted. "They're important subjects..." she convinced herself, though a part of her brain argued otherwiseโa thought she promptly decided to ignore. She walked on, clearing her mind, until she stumbled upon the library and stepped inside with a natural, easy smile. She hadn't been able to visit the library before, so this was her first time seeing the vast room filled with towering shelves and stacks of neatly arranged booksโa sight that sparked her curiosity and excitement, making her want to read almost all of them. She wandered past the shelves, looking for something that caught her eye; she spotted a few Herbology books she knew she would read later, as well as one about magical creaturesโa subject that had fascinated her more than anything else since she first discovered the wizarding world. Magical creatures. If it were up to her, she would be in the Care of Magical Creatures class right now, but for the time being, she would have to wait until her third year. "Almost there... just one more year..." she told herself encouragingly, putting the book back in its spot so she could keep exploring. As she looked around, she climbed the stairs to the second floor; passing by a pillar, she spotted a book she knew very wellโone that never bored her. "Holy shit... do they have The Odyssey here?" she whispered excitedly, gazing from behind the pillar in disbelief; she couldn't believe Hogwarts had those stories, too.
As she thought about how excited she was to re-read The Odyssey at schoolโsince she hadn't been able to bring her own copy from her father's house in Liverpool to Hogwarts that yearโshe didn't notice that someone else had beaten her to it and picked up the book to read as well. When she refocused and walked over to the shelf to grab it, she saw it was gone; the excitement drained from her, and she almost thought sheโd imagined itโuntil she spotted a boy at a nearby table holding the book and reading it. Damaris didn't recognize him as being in her year; she didn't recall seeing him in classes with the other second-years. He was tallโat least to herโwith somewhat fluffy black hair and a rather pale complexion; he looked quite serious as he read, which quickly made Damaris abandon any thought of approaching him about the book heโd taken.
"How embarrassing... I can't ask for the book back; heโs free to take it... What if heโs a fourth-year? Oh no, that would be too embarrassing..." she thought, burying her face in her hands and trying to gather her thoughts. There were no other copies of The Odyssey left on the shelf, which disheartened her, as that boy had taken the only one available. "Damn it... what should I do? Should I wait? Leave?" she wondered, resting her arms on her bent knees and hugging them to her chest. She hadn't even realized when she had slid down to the floor, leaning against the bookshelf behind her and covering her legs with her uniform robe; she was wearing a skirt, and she preferred sitting comfortably over "sitting properly" as her father used to tell her to do.

Damien truly did enjoy his time in the library, instead of heading into his own personal area like he would usually but he decided to stay out in the public domain as he was on a small little adventure. See he had found another translation of The Oydessy that was different from all the other ones he owned or have read before. He wanted to see just how different authors interpreted the original translation. The thing about Damien was that when he started reading a good story he tended to get immersed in it and would not pay his surroundings any attention at all. He had walked into the walls of the school and manor many times due to him not fully paying attention to his surroundings. So right now he didnโt even notice a girl looking at him as well as the book he was reading going through her own little dilemma currently. Damien honestly found this weirdly interesting as he could point out the flaws as well as praise it for certain things it did better than other adaptations. However he felt it weird that a lot of the good stuff that made the oydessy so terrifying wasnโt included in this version of the book however he sure that would be fixed one day if not today. |

Damaris gazed at the boy for a few seconds, unsure of what to do, untilโmoments laterโshe rested her head on her knees and reflected for a moment.
"Well... I'll read that edition another day, then..." she thought, feeling somewhat disheartened but determined to find another book. She stood up, brushed off her clothes, and began looking for something else to read during her spare time. As she searched the shelves, she ran her fingertips over the spines of the books in the mythology section. She moved to the shelf she had been leaning against earlier and browsed until another book caught her eye; it wasn't about mythology, but astronomy. Damaris wouldn't call herself an astronomy fanatic, but she had always found it enchanting to look at the stars at nightโsimply relaxing and watching them twinkle in the distance. Without much thought, she picked up the book and opened it, examining pages filled with images of constellations and their names; she was completely captivated by the stories behind each constellation and star. She was so engrossed in her reading that she didn't even think about finding a table until she looked up and noticed other students sitting at tables near the windows. She started looking for a table, butโunluckily for her (it felt like a curse that day)โthey were all occupied by large groups of students who were studying or just hanging out. The only relatively empty table was the one where the Ravenclaw boy was sitting. After a moment's hesitation, she seriously considered staying on the floor, though she knew sheโd look a bit pathetic doing soโa thought that made her feel even more awkward. So, feeling somewhat self-conscious, she began walking toward the boy's table, silently hoping he would let her sit on the other side. When she arrived and noticed he didn't even look up, she felt even more embarrassed.
"He's really focused... I'd hate to be distracted while reading..." she said, beforeโa few seconds laterโtapping him on the shoulder to get his attention, all while clutching her astronomy book against her chest with her other hand.
"Sorry... could I sit here too? The other tables... are taken..." she said shyly, waiting for the boy's response.
