Classes & Homework System

Classes are an optional feature on Hogwarts.io that allow your character to learn new spells and potions, earn House Points, and further develop their magical education. Completing homework is one of the primary ways your character grows academically throughout their years at Hogwarts.
Unlocking Classes
Classes become available once you have:
- Been a member of the site for 10 full days.
- Made at least 20 forum posts.
Finding Your Classes
Once unlocked, classes can be accessed in two ways.
Option 1:
Visit the classroom forum. A button near the top of the page will take you directly to the lesson.
Option 2:
Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner and select: Report Card
From here you can:
- View available classes.
- See your current grades.
- Find unfinished lessons.
- Open homework assignments.
Why Take Classes?
Completing lessons rewards much more than good grades.
Successful students can:
- Unlock new spells.
- Unlock new potions.
- Earn House Points.
- Test their knowledge.
- Improve their character's magical education.
Only homework completed for your current school year award House Points.
How Homework Works
Each lesson has three parts.
1. The Lecture
Read the professor's lesson carefully.
Even if the professor listed in the lesson is no longer teaching, the lesson itself is still current.
2. The Assignment
Below the lecture you'll find:
- Homework instructions.
- Any special grading requirements.
- The assignment questions.
3. Your Submission
Type your answers into the submission box and press Submit.
Your homework is then sent anonymously to the professor for grading.
Anonymous Grading
Homework is graded anonymously. Professors do not see your name when marking assignments.
Please do not include:
- Your character's name.
- Your house.
- Your specialty race.
- Any personally identifying information.
Tips for Success
- Read both the lesson and the assignment carefully.
- Answer every question completely.
- Follow any word-count requirements.
- Write everything in your own words.
- Proofread your work before submitting.
- Ask your professor if you don't understand the assignment.
Academic Integrity
Homework should always be your own work.
The following are prohibited:
- Plagiarism.
- Copying another player's work.
- Reusing homework from an old character.
- Using AI to write your assignments.
- Having another player complete homework for you.
- Sharing answers with other players.
Using Grammarly or Translators
Some grammar checkers and translators use generative AI.
If you rely on one of these tools, include your original writing inside a spoiler (Reducio) tag so staff can verify your work if necessary.
Need Help?
If you don't understand a question, don't guess. Every classroom contains a Q&A thread where you may ask the professor for clarification, or you may send them an owl.
Please remember: Professors are volunteers. Be respectful when asking questions. Out-of-character rudeness toward staff is still considered flaming or baiting.
Grading Times
Professors aim to grade assignments as quickly as possible, but it can take up to 2 weeks if there are high grading volumes, the professor becomes ill or busy or there are other site projects that have been demanding their attention.
Please be aware that homework submitted near the end of the month may not be graded before House Points reset. If earning monthly House Points is important to you, we strongly recommend submitting homework well before the final week of the month. House Points cannot be backdated after the monthly reset.
