Earning House Points & Monthly Rewards
There are 3 ways you can earn House Points:
  1. Completing homework. You can earn up to 5 points per completed homework assignment. An O earns you 5 points, 4 for an E, 3 for an A, 2 for a P, 1 for a D and 0 for a T. See here for more information on the Class & Homework System. Note: You will only earn house points for homework of your current year. If you are doing homework from a previous year, you will not receive house points.
  2. Participating in Errands. Please refer here for the Errand System. Errands are sporadic and the reward varies between house points, money and small items. Keep an eye out for errands that offer house points!
  3. Winning a sports game. Winning a Quidditch, Broom Racing or Duelling match. Members that participate and win their match without going inactive will earn an additional house point!
House points will earn the house the lauded House Cup. Every month, users who are part of the winning house and who participated enough will get a prize. The prizes differ monthly, but can be found in the next post! In canon, the house cup is an annual celebration. In this community, it would be hard to engage a community with only yearly rewards, so we track monthly and you can see who has won in the past by going to the Trophy Room.

It is assumed for the sake of canon recognition that students and professors casually watch monthly gains and know who gained the most each month and gossip/celebrate accordingly. So players can celebrate the fact that they won. It is logical that the top three contributors (we have them announced on our splash page each month) would be in-character known and recognized. Professors talk about who is doing a good job, other kids talk about hearing about all the points someone has been getting and of course the student themselves knows that they contributed a lot of points in a given month and might simply brag. It is presumed that people know who the top earner is, they might not know your face or you personally if you are the top earner but they will know that a student by a certain name is among the top three. It is considered to be common knowledge.

The summer months are difficult to reconcile. It is presumed that communications over the summer (such as kind and polite owls) or homework assignments that were completed late over the summer or were delayed in grading contribute heavily to these winners. Behavior at Summer Camp can be another cause. For the rare first year that has decided to excel in earning points before you ever step foot in the school, I am unable to offer many ideas beyond early studies, coming to summer camp or vigorous, polite owl writing leaving a good impression. You will have to reconcile this part of your story.

Note: The exception to this is iNPC subaccounts, the characters are not IC tied to Hogwarts houses and earning house points.

Earning House Points & Monthly Rewards
House Cup Rewards

Image

The rewards for a given month's house cup will be given the month after it is earned. So for example if you won the August House Cup, that is declared on September 1 so you would be getting your reward for winning the August Cup in September.

Can I Swap My Reward Out for Something Else?
The rewards are pre-set. That means that you will be getting the reward already pre-determined. So if you are uninterested in a reward (such as organizing a ball) then it is suggested that you save your assignments for a month that you would prefer to win. You will be entering each month with the knowledge of what you will earn and what you can earn if you choose to wait for another month.

Disclaimer: All rewards are given to the account that earned it. A player is free to forward their winnings as a gift to another player through the donate feature. For players who have earned a reward for a given month that plan to deactivate, please be aware that these rewards will be sent to your former account if that is the account that the rewards were earned on. The only exception to this is planning committees because these are not prizes we can leave in your inbox so that you can return to your previous character or forward it to a friend to 'give it away.' This would follow your account, so if you deactivated mid-planning or before the committee is earned, then this would follow to your new account (unless you declined this offer).
