Transfiguration Creation - Year Two

Welcome to the First Ever Second Year Transfiguration Creation!
“Hello, everyone! Today we have a special assignment!” Good way to start (or startle) the students right. Kasem showed up out of nowhere almost, clapping his hands together. Those around looked a mixture of bored, if they hated this subject, or excited, if they found it fascinating. Once all eyes were on him he continued, “Courtesy of the previous professor, we have a new way of doing transfiguration spells! A slightly more useful way at that too, hopefully at least.”

Kasem moved a bit towards the board using his wand to point towards what was written on there. The spells they had been working on for the last year were jotted down, alongside the equivalent of their new usages.
Avifors - Object to Bird
Purple Firecracker Jinx - Firework conjuration
Color Changing Charm - Color Change
Clothing Color Changing Charm - Change Clothes type and/or color
Hair Color Changing Charm - Change Hair style and/or color
Squiggle Quill Spell - XXX Creature to Worm
Gluing Spell - Offers a variety of adhesive types and strengths
Hardening Spell - Object to Hard Object
“For more information on how to use these spells please consult the Transfiguration Spell Book.” Professor Kasem continued. He gestured to the students sitting in their seats. “The goal for today, should you be so bold, is to come up to the front of class and perform whichever spell you’d like on whichever item you’d like.” He showed to the desk where a series of items were lined up - a crystal ball that Kasem must have had borrowed from Divination for some reason, a cage with a bullywig buzzing noisily inside, a quill, a whistle, a watch, matchbox, needles, and a stack of books. As this year spells were mostly about manipulating things they already possessed like clothing, he left it up to the second year imagination what they might do to impress him!

“If you are successful here as a class, I will make sure to prepare more interesting and incredible challenges in the future!"
OOC INFORMATION

1. You must be a SECOND YEAR to qualify.
2. To complete this challenge you must write a post that is at least 300 words.

“ℌello, class! Today we have a special assignment!"

Transfiguration was admittedly not Lyanna's favorite subject. No, quite the contrary. It wasn't as if the subject had started out too difficult, and at the beginning of her first year she had highly excelled in the subject. However, after that first Christmas break and her mother's disappearance, the visualization that was deemed to be so important to conjure inanimate objects and animals correctly began to fail her more and more. Every time she attempted to use her imagination, it took a wrong turn. Visions of what could have happened to her mother, that the sunchild couldn't help her, that she was a failure to her family. None of these images that flashed through her mind were true, all of it was her vivid imagination playing tricks on her. But that didn't matter. Silent tears as she struggled to see what she was supposed to see, to restrict her imagination and keep it within the lines.

"Your goal today, should you be so bold, is to come up to the front of class and perform whichever spell you’d like on whichever item you’d like."

The new spell book seemed like hell.

Even more visualization, and hardly any lines to remain within. It was all about choosing your own direction to transfiguration, making it less boring – which made sense; who wanted to learn about turning a mouse into a matchbox of whatever that spell was? – and using creativity. The problem was, Lyanna certainly had the creativity necessary, but she just couldn't channel it correctly. Despite that, at least attempting to use the new spell book did seem tempting in its own way. After all, maybe it would make things easier, providing more concrete options for spell outcomes, as many as they seemed. More choice, but less difficulty in thinking of the outline of it, perhaps. All the sunchild knew was that she at least had to try. Scraping a pass on her previous Transfiguration exam had been hard enough, how would she do it again if she didn't even have a way to learn her spells?

The sunchild stood.

There might've been a part of her was conscious that the entire class might see her fail. But in that moment, the world had halted, her footsteps echoing as she gripped her wand tightly. Breathing seemed difficult. Black spots threatened to engulf her into nothingness. No. Not now, not yet. First, she would try. Gripping her wand even tighter until her knuckles became white from the pressure, Lyanna steadied herself and made her way to the Professor's desk. Maybe she would not succeed, but it was time to take things to a different degree. Being able to face one's fears, hell or no hell, because things won't change until you're the one who steps up.

Eight different objects resided on the desk.

A crystal ball, a cage with a bullywig buzzing noisily inside, a quill, a whistle, a watch, matchbox, needles, and a stack of books. Apparently, Lyanna could use any of them to perform a spell, but for a moment her mind blanked completely. Focus. One of the spells she remembered was Avifors. She would need complete visualization to do it, and the prospect haunted her enough to make her want to run out of the classroom before even having raised her wand, but no. The sunchild would give it her best shot, because if there was one thing that would lead her nowhere, it was cowardice and fear. Looking at the brown quill, she pictured the feather becoming a species of its origin, multiplying and forming a bird. It was not too difficult to visualize it, the difficulty was keeping it controlled. A bird, not a boggart-come-true. Shutting her eyes to picture it, Lyanna then looked at the quill, focusing on it into a state of oblivion, and uttered the incantation at last. The spell's wand movement followed suit, and the deed was done.

"Avifors."

For a split second, the young witch was afraid that nothing would happen, but before she knew it, all of a sudden a beautiful owl spread its wings and flew from the desk onto Lyanna's shoulder. Letting out a breath she didn't remember inhaling, the sunchild smiled, a true smile, happiness engulfing her as she stroked the owl's feathers- feathers that she had somehow created and visualized without catastrophe. Before she knew it, the owl had set off on a journey of its own, flying out of an open window and out of sight. Lyanna herself returned to her seat, concealing her pride but still grinning widely on the inside, she would later recall. For she had done it, she had faced her fears and accomplished her goal of succeeding at long last.

Maybe the Transfiguration Spell Book wasn't hell after all.
