Max had been craving spending time outside since the moment he opened his eyes that morning. The breaks between classes, even lunch, never seemed to be quite enough time to actually do anything. So when the clock showed afternoon he was giddy about soaking in fresh air and burning some pent up energy. His friends however, had other ideas. So they settled for the courtyard. It was open enough but still close to the castle and the many clubs and activities awaiting them that afternoon.
They had started off standing in a corner, but slowly moved their way towards the fountain in the middle. They had a lot of fun trying, and mostly failing, to climb the gargoyles. That was until a passerby stopped long enough to yell about it. Finding their feet once more on the ground they settled on the stone base surrounding the fountain. They were deep in conversation, laughing and joking. The topic at hand was rather silly, really. It had started with stories of pranks and mischief, leading on to who of them was the least likely to get in trouble for anything, onward to what their parents might think. There it took a rather sharp turn as they now were discussing what subjects they had been most exited for when they started school. It was all shit talk, that was clear from all the responses.
As the conversation came to a natural end, as most of them were leaving, Max finished with a laugh. «Well, I don’t care what you say. I love my plants like the sky god Zeus loves his kids, all equally!» They rounded off with a few finishing remarks before Max waved them off and he was left alone. Well not alone, the courtyard was buzzing with chatter from all corners. Clearly there were more than just him craving a bit of time outside. As he was left sitting there, he leaned back to stare up at the pillars holding the arched roof he was partially sitting under in curiosity. Maybe he should try climbing one of those next? He was more familiar with climbing trees, but he did like the challenge!

It was late in the afternoon and Damien classes had just ended, so he decided it would be nice to take a stroll through the courtyard as a shortcut to make his trip to Ravenclaw tower quicker. He packed up his bags making sure all of his books were inside of it before he left the classroom and continued making his way to the courtyard. Damien had gotten used to walking through the courtyard over these past few months as it was quite lovely to see different students and sometimes listens to what they are talking about. He kept walking listening to the sounds of different people all conversing all at once, sometimes it felt overwhelming like a wave crashing down all around him but he gotten used to it so for now he was able to block all the noises out. When he was moving further along in the courtyard he overheard a conversation between a boy and what looked to seem a few of his friends discussing what all classes they were excited for once they started at Hogwarts. Damien found it honestly sweet as it reminded him of himself back in his first year whenever he was just excited to do any thing at Hogwarts as well as any work it honestly was lovely to see. He didn’t hear anything truly important in that conversation and was just about to leave when suddenly he overheard something that had the gears in his head turning. The boy from earlier who was talking with his friends suddenly made a comment about his plants saying “Well, I don’t care what you say. I love my plants like the sky god Zeus loves his kids, all equally!” which had Damien halt in his tracks as being someone who adored Greek mythology he knew for a fact Zeus did not love his kids equally. He waited a few minutes for the guys friends to leave before he made the decision to approach him and just point out in a friendly way how he was wrong, as he wouldn’t want anyone getting the wrong information from something so harmless.“Hey uhm excuse me! I hope I’m aren’t bothering you or anything I just couldn’t help but overhearing you mentioning Zeus loving his kids equally and I actually wanted to inform you he actually didn’t surprisingly!” As Damien spoke he kept his tone calm and collective and still friendly or so he thought as he didn’t want anyone to think he was being some snarky know it all. “He actually had a favorite which was Athena!” |

He was sure he had somehow read his mind, and was ready to pretend unknowing that climbing any of the school buildings and statues was a bad idea. If he just pretended well enough, no one would have cause to tell him off after all.
Upon hearing the rest of the statement though, he furrowed his brow. Who did this boy think he was? He was clearly smart, but why the need to rub it in? He was embarrassed enough for missing social norms. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other as he further considered.
The correction was not troubling in and of itself. But the way he said it made Max assume quite a lot. Athena was cool and all, but nowhere near as cool as Hephaestus or the god of war. «What, you’re saying Athena was more lovable or something?» That made no sense to him. All parents loved their kids equally, that was at least what his own always told him. Still, it hit a sore spot. His sister was way better than him at most things. Even if he did everything he could, they would still never be at the same level.
Feeling the urgent need to cover his own insecurity he lashed out in a nasty tone. «It’s not like you are so lovable either, so I don’t really get why you are rubbing it in!» He tried adding a confident smirk, but it ended up looking more like baring his teeth in a grimace. He could pretend to rise above all he wanted, the attempt was an utter failure.

I was walking down the hall after my classes ended, when I noticed that two boys were arguing. My curiosity got the better of me and I decided to eavesdrop from afar.
I got closer to them, my blue eyes curious and calculating. I didn't want to involve myself in that silly disagreement, but I was too curious to what it would unfold.
I came closer, trying to make myself not noticeable. I was good at eavesdropping and hiding. I had experience in getting my nose into things it didn't belong.
However as I came closer, I tripped. I cursed under my breath. I looked up at the two boys, hoping they didn't notice me. I didn't want trouble. My hand clenched around my wand. Preparing for the worst. I was used getting hurt and getting into fights.
I stood up, dusting my clothes off. They were worn out. I picked my books up. One of them was a textbook for defense against the dark arts, the other was a muggle physics book. I quickly tried to hide the physics book, not wanting to get betitled for reading muggle things or for being a muggleborn.
I looked at the two boys. I hoped they didn't notice me.

Damien listening to the boy ask another question was getting ready to answer it as honestly he wasn’t trying to act like a smart ass or anything he just wanted to make it clear that the information he was using wasn’t exactly true however he suddenly noticed a girl who seemed to be snooping on his and this boys conversation he was about to ask her what she was doing but he noticed her tripping and falling onto the ground. He decided to just not draw attention to it as that would likely make her more embarrassed plus he had to focus on this kid. “Every parents should love all there kids equal but it doesn’t….always work out like that, but I’d be happy to show you something the story where it talks about Athena being the favorite it’s actually in the Odyssey!” He smiled as honestly he meant no harm he just loved talking about Greek mythology it always was his favorite subject to learn about. Suddenly his whole world turned black as just those next few words was enough to get his hear racing. He couldn’t hear anything besides the ringing in his ears and the words that came out of the boys mouth. “ It’s not like you are so lovable either”, those words kept repeating over and over again as flashes of his father anger and disappointment all towards Damien being shown in his mind on instant replay as the words got louder and louder. Damien suddenly felt hands on his shoulders as he slowly turned to look he noticed it was the other version of him, the perfect version of him in his father’s eyes. The son who made it into Gryffindor who made his father proud and not be an embarrassment like Damien was, Damien had started to get used to this version of himself show up whenever he was having doubts or anxiety about something or himself he never fully understood why but never wanted to research it. He let out a sigh as he looked at this other version of himself. “What do you want..haven’t you made my life hell enough ?” He honestly was getting frustrated every time this happened as he just felt overwhelmed as he could feel his breath getting rigged like it was harder to breath while his heart was beating faster than usually. The other version of him just laughed before whispers surrounded him making him feel much more overwhelmed. “Oh you haven’t seen hell yet! Come on you know you’re a disappointment to you’re father and the fact that this kid could easily pick this up well that’s just pathetic but I guess it’s fits you since you’re a pathetic loser!” Damien closes his eyes and tried to take deep quick breaths to tune out the taunting of himself. He felt like he was in a constant state of panic whenever he had these moments he didn’t know what it was but he was starting to hate it. When he opened his eyes again he was still in front of the boy who had said those words to him no longer surrounded by a black void though he still felt it was harder to breath and he could still hear how fast his heart was beating but for now he didn’t hear the voice at least..for now. He kept his composure up before responding to this boy, “Well that’s quite rude..you don’t know my life or anything about it and I didn’t rub anything in about that at all I was just saying Zeus had favorites was all.” He truly did not feel like arguing with someone today he just didn’t have the energy for it. |

Why did this stupid Ravenclaw seem to insist on being such a git? It was far beyond Max, that was for sure. Everyone knew parents were supposed to love their kids equally. Everyone even knew that was often not the case. So why did this pompous idiot insist on force it down his throat? «I don’t care about the Oddesey…» The words were spoken under his breath with a bit of a snarl. He did not know who this Oddesey was, nor why they were apparently so important to this. Nor did he particularly care. It was probably just some stuck up idiot like the older boy in front of him.
He suddenly noticed a girl nearby. It was a Ravenclaw, in his own year too. Great! The stupid birds ganging up on him. How was that fair? He sent her a bit of a nasty look. She did not seem like she was about to jump into their conversation, and in his opinion that was probably for the best. He knew he was useless as it was, and did not need further witnesses.
He seemed to miss entirely how his second comment affected the older boy, only looking back at him when he next spoke. He shoved down the small pang of guilt that arose. His comment had been sort of rude, he could see that. But this was not the time to let that emotion take hold. No, weed it out! «It’s not like yours was any better! We all know the thing about everybody being loved is horse shit. But that doesn’t mean you should say it!» He paused to take a deep breath. Partly to supres the urge to swing at him, but also to make absolutely sure he did not sound hurt or wounded.
«It’s not like you know my life either, so why would you say it like that?» Cold dread creeping up his back as he realized the last part sounded almost pitiful. To cover it up he quickly clenched his fist and raised it. «If you want to throw it don just say so, I’ll beat you any day!»

Damien breath felt rigged as this boy just kept going on and on as he still kept misinterpreting Damien words, He was honesty starting to get fed up with this as he didn’t want to fight or pick a fight with this boy but he wouldn’t back down no matter what Damien did or said and he honestly didn’t know what he could do to stop him. He kept moving away from the boy as he started to get angrier almost like he was trying to start a fight with Damien. “Hey! Would you quit it! You’re misinterpreting my words I wasn’t saying anything about you not being loved or anything I was just preventing you from spreading the wrong information!” He was honestly trying to keep his emotions together as he felt like he would soon fall apart as he honestly felt really emotional. He wish this boy could see what he truly meant with his words instead it seemed like he was picking and choosing what he wanted to hear or rather what he chose to ignore from the context of the conversation. “The odyssey is a book by Homer which tells the story of Odysseus I was only mentioning it as it has the example Athena being Zeus favorite that I was telling you about” He hopped this guy would stop trying to pick a fight with him as he honestly just wished to be left alone for the moment as he needed a minute to himself so he could breath properly. |

Words:————————217────────────────────────The boy’s response made him stop dead in his tracks. Funnily, just as instructed. To save face despite it, he scrambled for a fitting response. «You jerkface!» and «You’re wrong information!» were both really tempting. They did not however, seem right. He turned the words over in his head again. Now that he had taken a moment to breathe, it didn’t really sound that snotty or anything.
He looked down at his feet for a moment. Spreading wrong information wasn’t really something he liked to see done. He messed up enough without it. Shuffling his feet a little, like a kid being scolded, he nodded almost invisibly before looking up again. Much of the attitude had left him now, and left was a boy aware that he most likely messed up, but not quite prepared to admit it.
«…okay.» He added at last. Feeling way too vulnerable for comfort, he was quick to put on a bit of a cheeky grin «Bet Oddesseyos was a prick though!» He knew he messed up the name somehow, but didn’t care to correct it. If the guy was truly just there to correct, he would probably not let it slide anyway. A test of true intentions of sorts. Did it make sense? No. Did it make sense to Max? Undoubtedly.

One of Damien biggest pet peeves were people saying the wrong information on purpose, he could not stand it and right now this boy was testing his patience and he wasn’t sure how long he would last. Damien knew the boy meant Odysseus but he was positive he was saying the name wrong on purpose, and he took personal disrespect at that giving the fact Odysseus was his middle name which he took Great pride and held that name very dearly. Damien gave a forced smile as he wanted to remain his composure before he turned to answer the boy question, this boy wasn’t Exactly wrong as to some Odysseus could be seen as a prick for killing his own men but if you look at the fully story you would see he was given a hard task and been dealt an unfair hand. “While I understand why you may think that Odysseus wasn’t necessarily a prick, more so he got dealt a bad hand however this is your opinion which differ from mine and has evidence to support it so I suppose in a way your right as well.” Damien figured his way of wording this was his best outcome if he didn’t want max to have another blow up or meltdown, which speaking of that he noticed he seemed to project a lot of his own issues at the world mostly when a topic revolved around parents and there kids. Did it make it right for what he said to Damien hell no but did it make Damien understand him a bit better, most definitely. |

Date:—————————Afternoon
Words:————————247────────────────────────Who did this jerk think he was? From the way he spoke it would seem Minister of Magic or some other super important role. Big shoes to fill for a second year. Max narrowed his eyes. He needed to keep his wits about him.
He had attempted to be funny. Giving an inch, trying to get the Ravenclaw to laugh. The reply he could barely follow even if he tried. Something about the Odysseus was handed something. As his mind struggled to keep up he found himself wondering what. Maybe a tissue to wipe his own snot. The thought was enough for him to drag a hand beneath his own nose. Thankfully no drops were present.
The next part was was outright confusing. Something about changing evidence, and offering support. His mind blanked. Those words were too big for him to follow in a good moment. Now he had no chance whatsoever. «Uhm… What?» He shifted his weight a little out of general uncertainty.
The boy could be trying to make fun of him in some way. Using words he didn’t know was effective. But something about his tone told him otherwise. He scrunched up his face once more. Trying to suppress the embarrassment at feeling stupid, and the internalized anger, he kicked at a few pebbles that conveniently were within reach. «You could speak English you know…» As more emotion leaked into his voice his accent broadened, making it near impossible to understand by the end.
