I'd say her ability to remain calm - perhaps not cool-headed, and she's definitely not calm internally, but it's hard to get her riled up and she's relatively good at staying focused.

They're very much a scaredy-cat and rarely take risks to do things that scare them, mostly because of their perfectionism and the fact that they refuse to be anything but perfect at what they do.

Heights, but also losing those she loves

How would others describe your character?
People who don't know her may describe her as quiet, a bookworm, a little reclusive or keeping to herself, tomboyish/queer-looking, or a bit of a teacher's pet. She's seen pretty often just around the school, but it's hard to gather much about her except if you talk to her or are in a class with her. She's a slight social butterfly in that she never really stays with one group for long.

What is your character's most prized possession?
Their black ace ring they made in first year, worn on their right middle finger.

What is your character's deepest insecurity?
That she isn't perfect, that she will never be perfect at everything. Objectively, it makes sense, and she understands that of course the world works like that. But internally she hates it and wishes more than anything that she could fix it.

What motivates your character?
Information; the possibility to know everything there is to know about the world.

What angers your character?
Ignorance and especially judgement of others, especially when unwarranted. They're a strong believer in letting everyone do what they want as long as it's not hurting anyone.

What makes your character happy?
Their friends, archery, duelling, finding a cool outfit, exploring in the woods, researching a topic they love

What does your character like about themselves?
Physically, Mahl really likes how floofy her hair is, and recently the orange tips. Mentally, she's very proud of her creativity and imagination.

How is your character's relationship with their family?
Well, this is a complicated question. It used to be, but then their parents made them move to France, and never really gave her the time nor space to process. Then Reltyl began to resent her for her magic and for being "self-obsessed and better than everyone else". Mahl's closest to Hyltwis right now, but hasn't seen her in a year and a half, as Hyltwis is pursuing a career in theater that her parents don't approve of. In their extended family, Mahlioz looks most up to Manon, their cousin, and really likes her aunt Yasmine.

Is your character susceptible to peer pressure?
It depends what for and from who. She is definitely able to be convinced by friends to do things she doesn't want to, but doesn't care at all about popularity or doing what's "cool".

What annoys your character the most?
People who think/act like they're better than others, especially adults who seem to think teens are incompetent and incapable of maturity or responsibility.

Describe your character's accent
In English, very very Scottish, though every few words there will be a sudden French accent (for a word like rendezvous). In French, a typical Parisian accent, with a couple anglicisms interspersed.

Describe your character's smile
Bright and warm when genuine - a full tooth smile, and her eyes crinkle up so much you can barely see them anymore.

Describe your character's "tell" for lying
Mahl is incapable of lying lol. Their emotions are obvious on their face 24/7 and they have all the obvious tells - rubbing the back of their hand, looking around suspiciously, etc. Though they rarely make eye contact on a regular basis, so that one's less telling.

Describe a recurring dream for your character
She often dreams of duelling, though the people she's duelling often change based on who she's been spending time with recently. There's a lingering sense of dread and stress at having to win, and every single time there's a moment where she can no longer see anything but can't figure out why or how to stop it. It always seems like there's colors coming out of nowhere and blinding her vision.

Describe your character's morning/nightly routine
Nightly: after dinner, they study for a little, have a snack, read, get into pyjamas and brush their teeth, and then read until their dormmates are done gossipping (which they do sometimes join in on). Depending on how much homework they have, reading is sometimes replaced.
Morning: she has a timer on 45 minutes before she needs to get up, because getting out of bed is impossible. She then gets dressed, organizes her stuffies, puts her things in her bag, practices a couple spells with her dormmates, and goes to eat breakfast in the great hall (probably while studying).

Describe the contents of your character's bag
Always a green 0.5 mechanical Muggle pencil and a pencil eraser that never runs out/peels off when you erase. Their wand, a couple snacks (mostly chocolate, a clementine or two during the winter), a novel or two, their sketchbook, a frog hat, magic noise-cancelling headphones (that don't play music), the usual quill and ink and parchment, and school books of course.

Cool and mysterious, perhaps even intelligent is the goal. She knows she's more on the side of gremlinlike and a little weird, but she doesn't mind.

Best: On the eve of her 7^th birthday, in the coolness of the January evening, Jrue sat quietly besides the stone laden fireplace, hair tied back in two little buns and held up with orange and blue hair ties. Her knees were drawn close to her chest, eyes fixated on the flames as she built herself a block house of brown and red. Fixated on the structure, in the joy of the simplicity and ease of the activity, she spoke nothing. She looked up, for only a moment, to see her parents for heads pressed together, her fathers arms wrapped around her mothers waist. “In the confusion of the chaos, I take no notice but in the love my heart holds for our family.”, was what he spoke, her mother smiling and dimples radiating her joy and warmth.
Worst: It was August of 2023. A car crash, killing her classmate Atticus. She hadn’t known him well. He lended her his scissors once in art class. She went to the grocery store with her father the following day, a simple errand, not too much effort. Jrue’s father stopped at a post office, and she waited in the car for him to return. Atticus’ older brother, whose stature and hair much akin to his, throwing himself onto the ground, into the middle of the street. An onlooker screamed. Jrue didn’t move. The red car that flew down the street stopped to a halt right as it approached him. He was not harmed. Jrue didn’t know what to think, the sight of his grief and his anger making her throat and her heart ache. She didn’t tell her father what she saw.

She loves both of her parents equally, it’s true, but things just work out when they involve him. Her mother, bless her soul, has expressed her high expectations for her. She also has an approach to discussing Jrue’s dhampirism that tends to set Jrue off and upset her.

Describe your character's accent Soft and airy, Jrue’s voice sounds like a character out of a 1960s film. British in nature, the ends of /k/ and hard /c/ words have the scottish bite to them. It has a prep-school feel, smart and elegant, but young and undeveloped. When she gets upset, her scottish accent makes itself present. It gets more gutteral, and has a lot of emotion.

Describe your character's smile When Jrue smiles, you know things are going to workout. Aged and healthy, but soft and not all there. Her upper lip is small, with a rather pronounced cupid’s bow. Her bottom lip is supple and round, and curves downwards at the ends. Her two front teeth are just a tad larger than the average, but not the first thing you see when she smiles. The two gaps that rest beside her lateral incisors leave you wondering whether they never existed or were removed. Until her fangs retract you wouldn’t be the wiser. Her fangs, several centimeters longer than the rest of her teeth, are rounded down to a point like an almond. Her smile overall indicates innocence and joy that can’t be expressed through words.

Describe your character's "tell" for lying When Jrue lies, she sets her jaw forward to bite her lip. She wants to avoid continued conversation as much as possible. Rapid blinking also occurs, nerves causing her muscles to jumpstart in activity

• Biting her thumbnail in particular, when conversation lacks or nerves are present
• Biting the inside of her cheek, when thoughtful or listening

What is your character's greatest strength? Brookline’s greatest strength would be her knowledge. She knows a great deal of things due her daily consume of books and her natural intelligence. What is your character's greatest weakness? Brookline’s greatest weakness is definitely the fact that she bottles everything up and when she can’t hold anything in her, she explodes. What is your character's best and worst memory? The best memory of Brookline’s young life is probably when she was given her acceptance letter for Hogwarts, and when Ravenclaw won their last race during her second year. Worst is definitely when her mum announced the divorce and she almost set the house on fire What is your character's biggest fear? Brookline’s biggest fear would losing her siblings just because of her. How would others describe your character? Others would describe Brookline like as a quiet book-worm at times, and then half the time all the Ravenclaw wants to do is just talk to people (new people, she doesn’t want her close friends to know about her issues). She can always be described as stubborn and well-bordered. Despite all the social she is, she’s got walls up, and triple walls around her heart, due to family issues. What is your character's most prized possession? Her wand and her broom. Brookline has had two brooms in her broom racing history, and she just knows if she ever wanted to go away, they fly away from human kind, she could just grab her broom and wand. Probably her kitten, Tigeress as well. The little furball is her emotional support and her animal best friend. What is your character's deepest insecurity? Self control and the fact that people could find out about Brookline’s family and use it against her. What motivates your character? Those voices. The Welsh girl just wants them out. What angers your character? The universe. Her father. Her mother. Voices whispering in her head, making her do something that she normally wouldn’t do. No comment. What makes your character happy? Tigeress, and the few [true friends Brookline has which is what makes her happy. What does your character like about themself? Brookline likes the fact that she is able to help others and that she can be a pretty good racer when she tries. How is your character's relationship with their family? Oh, Merlin, it’s horrible. With her siblings, Brookline knows it can be a little rocky, yet she has a stable relationship with her older sister and younger siblings. Her parents, well, that’s a completely different story. Dad left the family, and Brookline and her father had a rough relationship since she could remember, while with her mum, she and Brookline had a pretty great mum-daughter relationship til the mention of divorce. Amy (her mum) just buries herself in files, and papers, and Brookline has not spoken to her mum since Easter of second year. With grandparents, it’s a little better; a little bit of distance, yet the Welsh Ravenclaw knows if she ever needs a break, she can floo to either paternal or maternal grandparents. She doesn’t know if her mum has a sister or brother, yet, Chase (her dad) has a brother and he has a family. Brookline is pretty close with her uncle and her aunt and their children. Is your character susceptible to peer pressure? Ehhh, a little bit. If Brookline could pretend to be this person, and not be noticed, then sure. Yet, she’d rather just go her own way, and sometimes a friend might have to persuade her to do something or go do this and that. What annoys your character the most? When the universe just decides to chuck something at Brookline and then laugh at her when she doesn’t do what to do, or if a friend or her father intervenes and the universe still laughs at her.

Describe your character's accent: Brookline’s Welsh accent is usually light, and gentle unlike everything else about Brookline, and becomes unnecessary thick when she’s nervous or emotional.
Describe your character's smile:
Let’s get this straight, Brookline doesn’t really smile, she likes to fake a half-smile, yet it never reaches her dark-blue eyes, which are expressive as a stormy ocean. Although!! When the Welsh Ravenclaw has a real smile stitched on her lips, all her pearly white teeth come out of their hiding spots, and the grin meets her ocean eyes, that are actually sincere with real happiness.
Describe your character's "tell" for lying: Brookline is always nervous when she lies. Her palms would be sweating and she would usually be fidgeting with her fingers or something on her body. She looks away, and her hands go up to the usual braid she has in the monster of her hair. The plastering of a half-smile to reassure the person she was speaking with would be trembling and her eyes were alert, and probably looked like she was questing herself why no-one was noticing the insane, loud drumming of heart. Sometimes, she can get right past a fib, yet the other half, she usually gets meets with the “are you sure” or “you sure you’re okay” questions.

Brookline doesn’t really have manners anymore. Yes, she still keeps her morals and everything good and all, yet she has basically given up on all human interaction, and would rather stay in the rotting sewer she called her half of the dorm. Habits? By Merlin’s bead, she had tons. Shivering, trembling hands; chewing on rotting fingernails; forced smile all the time; running hands through greasy hair; not remembering to brush her hair; bouncing knee, shaking foot... Okay, I’ll stop now.
Describe your character's typical first impression: It honestly really depends what the subject’s day has been like. If the day has been horrible, then you’ll see a flustered Brookline stuttering over her words, and her eyes and hair wild. On a good day (which are rare), bold Brookline will jump into the peril herself, and be that outgoing person she was and still is.
Describe a recurring dream for your character: Brookline has many horrible dreams about her father, where he leaves her at the most unexpected places, or one dream featured her father chucking her away when her mother’s kitchen cracked, leaving over hungry lava at the bottom. A recent dream the teenager had in late September where her family were sharing Christmas without her, and her parents were yelling and cursing at her. She doesn’t really like to talk or think about her night terrors.
Describe your character's morning/nightly routine: Again, a thing Brookline doesn’t have. When there were no classes, the Ravenclaw would lounge and sleep the day away, and when there was classes, she went to sleep as soon as classes ended. There were certain days where she would go take a shower and do her homework before bed, yet it was mostly either fall asleep right away or read a book and then fall to dreamland. In the mornings before classes, Brookline would stay put in her bed, til the last minute, and then hurry to switch her clothes, to get to first class on time, skipping breakfast all the while.
Describe the contents of your character's bag: The contents in Brookline’s satchel are pretty normal for once, loose parchment, crumpled homework and essays, quills paired with wells in ink, some sturdy yet tattered paperbacks, usually a small tin full of Brandy’s Bright Barrettes and hair bubbles, her chestnut wand, a Self-Walking Leash for the one and only Tigeress, Wizard currency, and most of the time, a Locksmith's Knife.
Describe how your character wants to be seen: Brookline wants to be seen as a pretty-greet broom racer that can do what she can to help others. She wants to be known as intelligent, and bright yet each encounter has proved her to be unstable and a nervous wreck. Of course, it’s not the way Brookline wants to be remembered and has plans to change that. Which, may not happen for a while.

Her greatest strength is her willingness to be hardworking and never give up.

Her greatest weakness is that she keeps her feelings to herself instead of letting people help her through hardships.

Her best memory is the times her grandfather used to take her and her cousin out into the woods to explore. Her worst memory is the day she lost everything when her mother dragged her away from her grandparents' home then disappeared into her work soon after.

Her biggest fear is losing her family all over again, but this time for good. (Such as death tearing her apart from her family)

Her most prized possession will be a bracelet her grandfather will give her right before he dies. (She doesn't have it yet, but she will have it during the summer before her third year.)

Her deepest insecurity is that if she tells people (especially her close friends or boyfriend) what is really going on in her life that they will take pity on her and treat her differently (such as treat her as if she's fragile when she's not.)

She is motivated by her want to help others and become the best person that she can be.

Feeling weak and that there is nothing that she can do to stop or help someone/something.

Spending time with her boyfriend (Mikey), talking with her best and close friends, or being with her grandfather.

It's rocky. She's close with her grandparents on her mother's side, but knows really nothing about her father's side. Her relationship with her parents is worse. Her father broke their relationship over the summer before her second year causing major tension. Her mother? Well, it's the worst of all. Avery found out over the summer how her mother really feels about her daughter and why she hasn't seen her own daughter in over a year now.

No. She does things if she feels it is the right thing to do.

People that don't stand up for what they know are right.

She has a very distinct Southern Welsh accent from her origin being Swansea, Wales.

Her smile is friendly and bright which shows people she's genuine and nice.

You can see it in her eyes. She doesn't enjoy lying, so her eyes betray her.

Considering being raised in a pure blood home, you'd expect her to be prim and proper, but she's only like that at fancy events (such as weddings or pure blood balls). Normally she's very informal and easy-going. You probably wouldn't guess she was pure blood from her mannerisms if you met her casually.

People always see that she is friendly and outgoing as well as genuine. She isn't fake and actually wants to be there for people and get to know them.

Describe a recurring dream for your character
A recurring dream for her is the dream about the day either her muggle friend died and she had to watch as she could do nothing or the day her mother took her away from her childhood and forced her to grow up pretty much alone before she went to Hogwarts.

Her morning consists of waking up early and going out to watch the sunrise or take a walk across the grounds before eating breakfast and either heading to Quidditch practice or going to class (depends on the day). Her night routine is doing homework before pulling on PJs and crawling into her bed with a book.

Her wand, a locksmith knife her friend gave her, some chocolate frogs, probably a book or two.

Avery wants to be seen as loyal yet brave. She will never give up on friends nor back down from a fight. She would also risk her life to save someone even if it meant she could die.
