In a cozy little house somewhere in Ellesmere Port, two twin brothers were awake and bickering about some new thing. Or- It was far from new, but-

“YOU’RE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT IT UP AGAIN!” Pyce shouted, no longer making an attempt to be quiet.

“Oh, yeah. Just blame me when you misplace things all the time!” Hecate sniffed haughtily.

“Not what I did! Not even close! I asked if you saw my book. I asked and you said “No, I haven’t seen your book at all. Maybe it’s in the same place as your bracelet.” A bracelet I know you took!”

“I did not! I never take your stuff!”

“You liar! You always take my stuff!” And Pyce was right, naturally. They had found several things that had gone missing inside of Hecate’s room. Their best quill, several cool rocks Pyce had been keeping for themself, TWO boxes of fizzing whizzbees, and several other bits and bobs that certainly were not Hecate’s. Whether Hecate was a compulsive liar or a compulsive thief, Pyce couldn’t decide. “I bet if I go into your room right now, I’ll find my bracelet and book.” Pyce started walking towards Hecate’s bedroom.

“Don’t you dare!” Hecate shouted, tackling his brother to the ground.

The two tussled for a bit before-

“Hoo.” A hoot from the window drew their attention. The twins stopped. Pyce snatched up their glasses from where they had fallen onto the floor. There was a brief moment of straightening themselves out before Hecate walked up to Horace.

“Good morning, Horace.” He greeted. The owl dropped two letters before flying off to a different part of the house. Hecate scooped up the letters casually. Everything was normal. One was probably from Mori, the other from Stella. It happened all the time. Hecate gasped. Pyce immediately ran over.

“What is it?” They asked. Hecate held up one of the envelopes. Hecate’s name, formatted “Mr. H Rotanski” was written atop, followed by their address. Nothing interesting. Until Hecate turned the envelope around. On the back was the very recognizable Hogwarts crest. Pyce gasped and snatched their own letter from Hecate’s grip, ripping it open quickly.

Pyce pulled a second piece of paper from the envelope. It was the supply list for school. They turned to Hecate. He was still going over his own letter, eyes wide.

“Cate-”

“Pie!” He squealed, wrapping his brother into a tight hug. “We’re going to Hogwarts!!” Pyce felt positively lightheaded. Though they weren't sure if it was from how giddy they were feeling, or how tight Hecate's embrace was. Probably both.

“I can’t imagine why not,” Their mother said, walking down the hall the two were in. “As magically inclined as you are.”

“Mum!” Hecate pushed off of Pyce, causing them to wobble for a moment, luckily regaining their balance before they toppled to the floor. “We got our letters!” He held out his own. Donna took it and read it over.

“We have to go school shopping then, don’t we?” She asked, looking over the shopping list. “We could go today. Unless you both still wanted to go to-”

Yesyesyes! Oh please can we go today? The twins said in unison. After realizing what had happened, they glared at each other briefly. Donna laughed.

“Alright then. Can I assume you’ll be ready to leave soon?”

“We will be!” Hecate said, inching into his room.

“Wait, can I have my bo-” Hecate slammed the door shut. Pyce turned to their mum.

“I think it’s on the couch, dear.” They nodded and trotted down over to the living room to check. There, bookmark still perfectly placed, was the book.

Pyce snatched it up before retreating back upstairs to their room to get ready. They couldn’t wait!
