Time: Dusk
Continuing from Potions and Progress

Dusk, when--
The west becomes a painter's spilled array--
A wash of peach, a streak of bruised rose,
A deepening blue that drinks the fading light.
Each cloud, a floating island, dipped in fire,
Then cooled to ash, then swallowed by the grey.
Again.
Dusk. Orange light filled the sky, and clouds were a perfect gradient of red. Tomorrow would be a clear day. Dusk, or twilight, a time of mystery.

Maisie sat on the bank of the great lake, having lent her NEWT potions to Emily--the very one she was waiting for, she now had a transfiguration book in her hand. Her wand was clutched in her other hand, and she amused herself by transfiguring snails along the rocks into teapots. Tiny teapots.

If you had asked the girl before her trip to Hogwarts, say even mere days ago, how long she would wait to make friends, she would've said three weeks or months. But now, she could give a definitive answer: one day. Strictly, two days. Yesterday, on the first day of classes, she had made friends with a Ravenclaw girl in Potions, and today, they were meeting at the great lake.

Her mum had sent her an owl from home, with a box containing some of her favourite treats: fifteens, treacle tart, Welsh cakes and shortbread cookies. And so she had brought them along, and now the box lay on the emerald green grass bank by her.

She sometimes was a bit wistful she wasn't in Ravenclaw. She had dreamt of being with the older of her two brothers at Hogwarts, but instead she's left with the one two years older than her: annoying and definitely not mature. But then, apart of Martin, none of her brothers could be called "mature". Next year, however, her little sister would be at Hogwarts, and then some years later, her youngest sister would come. But by then, she would be nearing the end of her days at Hogwarts.

She glanced around, waiting for the brown haired girl, but she could not see her anywhere. She'll come, won't she?

Maisie didn't know why she would be presented with a herbicide potion, but she accepted it with a smile all the same. She was touched by the gift, however strange it was. She pushed her sweets box towards Emily.

"Here, mum sent this to me. She made them herself! It's delicious, the fifteens is my favorite!" She gestured to the two white powdery logs in the center of the box. "Take one and we'll walk. Isn't the lake massive!"

She herself took a slice of the stuffed treat and put it in her mouth. It was delicious. She pictured her little sisters devouring her mother's food, and felt a sense of longing. Hogwarts was amazing, the food wasn't bad, but nothing beats home.

It would be weird if many little teapots lay on the bank of the lake, so she untransfigured them back into its original. They crawled away slowly.

A sudden thought entered her mind. Maybe I'll buy the herbicide potion in Matthew's drink! Sadly, however, that wasn't possible, and she was a very law-abiding girl(/jk), so she wouldn't do that. That was the kind of thing her stupid brother would do. But she smiled at Emily, as if masking her thoughts.

"Ready to go and walk? How was your day?"

"Mum stuffs it with marshmallows and sweets, but it's mainly made from digestive cookies, and there's egg in that, innit? I'll ask mum if she can make some vegan ones, and then you can try it!" The girl felt it a rather shame that Emily wasn't able to eat it, for it was so delicious.

She straightened, stretching her arms over her head and looked over at the castle, yawning. The first three days had passed so quickly. It was hard to believe the next 7 years of her life would be spent in the grounds of the castle.

"Class is easy, alright, though you might have more luck in studying--you're a Ravenclaw. You don't need to memorize the whole book though, rather just digest it all." She picked up her sweet box and tucked it in her robe pocket.

"I'm fine." she answered the question, going down the side of the bank. Some part of her wanted to run and swim in the lake. " I don't know half of what mum puts in it. Sometimes it's full of marshmallows, others its full of chewy candy or dried fruit. What does your mum make you?" She looked back at the girl, curious about her home life. She doubted her life would be the same as hers, for she was not a pure blood, but everyone has a story, and she always wanted to know about other children's lives without the constant use of magic as in hers.

Her ears perked up at the word "indian". While she had access to fine French food, or any western cuisine in general, she didn't always have a chance to eat asian food. Indian food was only something she tried a few times. But it was delicious, and complex reflection made her mouth water. India had the most vegetarians, now that was a fact she didn't know. Now she was craving some of those buttery flavour bombs. She wondered if she could rope her brother into going to the kitchens and asking the house elves to make Indian food for the whole school. It would be a change.

That's cool. Reckon you can write to your mum and ask her for some recipes?" She said excitedly. She was sometimes fed up with British food, and was glad for a change during the holidays.

"What do you like to do for fun? Do you play Gobstones? Or chess? Or those muggle plastic toys?" This was a question she was dying to ask. She could often see the village children play hopscotch or plastic things that could squirt water. Apparently they were called water guns. Why guns? She knew there was a charm to spurt water from the tip of one's wand, and she must say, muggles do get creative. "And do you listen to muggle songs? My cousin loves everything about muggles, and would sometimes play those song discs." She continued, glancing at the horizons, where the sun was dropping, spreading golden rays. Cousin Elspeth loved muggle things, and when she was up in Wales, the older girl would lock them in her room to listen to pop music in the afternoons. Gosh she missed those days. Her cousin went to Koldovstorez in Russia because of her Uncle's job.
