SpeakingMentions: @Emily HarrisIt was September 2nd, the first day of classes at Hogwarts, and Maisie Williams was not in much of a great mood. She had woken up feeling quite happy, but when she went down for breakfast, her brothers waved her over, and when she got there, they embarrassed her in front of their friends. Then she got pumpkin juice spilt over her newly-ironed black robes. She ran back to the Hufflepuff cellar to get a change of clothing, then ran down even more stairs to her first class of the year: Potions with Ravenclaw.
She was panting by the time she got there, though she spent her childhood doing a lot of running. Her cauldron banging painfully on her hip bones, one of the cons of being so thin-she hadn't much fat, and her books slamming onto her back in her backpack, she ran through the corridors. She knew where everywhere was, her brothers had drew her a blueprint before school started. Shockingly, even though she thought she was late, by the time she had occupied a table, and began setting out her equipment, did people really start to trickle--or more like surge--in.
Just as she was flipping through her potions book with a mildly interested expression, her cauldron and the ingredients needed for the lesson lined up neatly besides said cauldron, a brunette slid in next to her. Maisie wasn't sure if she wanted to strike a conversation, so an awkward silence ensued, as both girls busied themselves with their books and things. Maisie, beginning to feel bored as the class had yet to start, pulled out the potions book her eldest brother, now graduated, had given her. It was way more advanced, but she liked Potions, and now, in the hopes of escaping conversation, she tried to immerse herself in. It wasn't like she didn't want to talk, she did, in fact, have no trouble in chatting, but she was afraid what her first impression would be on her fellow schoolmates. She was, after all, a Williams. Though her parents told her to be her, the though of embarrassing her family mortified her.
Why is she still staring at me? Maisie saw the girls' blue eyes bear on her, and she wasn't very comfortable being such a spectacle. But I haven't juice all over me, that's comforting. Haven't seen her in Hufflepuff, maybe she's a Ravenclaw. She thought. She had spent twenty minutes getting ready this morning, trying to be perfect on her first day, and yet, she wasn't ready, or was she?
"Hi...Sure...I mean, we do share a table. And I'm Maisie Fenwick Rose Williams, nice to meet you." after a pause, she grinned,"The naming is kind of a family tradition." Another pause, after which she continued, "So... you're from Ravenclaw? Do you happen do know my brother, a fourth year Ravenclaw by the name of Matthew, do you?"Maybe I'm pushing my luck.

SpeakingMaisie shrugged when her reply was no, she couldn't expect Emily to know her brother on the first day, she didn't know anyone really, save her brother and his friends, and a couple of first years in Hufflepuff.Mentions: @Emily Harris
"It doesn't matter. You'd know more people as the days progress. Be careful of Matthew though, he's a jokester."
She saw the girl peer at her setup and the potions textbook filled with her brothers neat, immaculate handwriting. "It's not mine, it's from my brother, Martin--he graduated and gave his books to me." she said hurriedly. "If you want to read it I can lend it to you. Its for NEWT, but it's not too hard." she added.
It wasn't hard much, well, maybe hard when she first read it, but when one lives in a world full of magic, these things tend to come easily. The notes weren't entirely her brother's, she had added to it, and found easier ways to make the potions. But she didn't want to add these, that would sound bad.
Before Emily mentioned it, she hadn't noticed her cauldron's fire and cleaniness, Merlin, she even thought it to be dirty and scuffed. But it was just something nice being said. Or maybe it really was spotless. Maisie guessed the latter. The former seemed far-fetched.
She smiled, hoping it wasn't a grimace, because she still was cursing her brother in her head, and thoughts tend to go into what one says. "Um sure. See, you just have to add a little less oil before you light the fire, then it would produce a smaller flame. But you can also change the wick to a smaller one. Like cutting it a bit smaller. As for the cauldron--Scourgify! She waved her wand and the cauldron was shining again. A handy spell, Scourgify is. Helps in almost all cases."
As class started, Maisie couldn't help the stem of angry thought coming through like a train on steam. Her brothers made a fool of her, and she was just imagining stabbing them or hexing them, when she gave a start. She had missed the whole theory part, and didn't know what potion they were meant to be making. Was it a Cure For Boils? She say the syllabus, and that was the first potion. It's fine. It's one of the first potions I learnt at the prep school. I'll be fine. But she wasn't fine. In her haste to perfect the potion, she added 8 snake hangs and only two of the four needed Horned Slugs. Her hands were shaking, as her potion turned a sickly green. "Uh oh, I did it all wrong!
In her desperation to fix her mistake, and not wanting to Scourgify the whole concoction, she turned to Emily for help. "So you know how this could be fixed?"
Ooc notes: I have acquired the spell mentioned above.

Ratios? Why on earth would she not know about ratios? She was a pure-blood, but not ignorant enough to know nothing about the universal language --maths. Her parents had given her an expensive education, and she had learnt quite well. In fact, she had just learnt ratios last summer. But true, she hadn't thought about using ratios, it was more of something in exercises.Mentions: @Emily Harris
She crushed another snake fang and added it to the acid green liquid. It sizzled, and the color righted itself by a bit. She got four more horned slugs, and plopped them in. The color was now textbook perfect. She needn't clear out her whole cauldron now! That was an outcome she was not expecting. But at least she can't be teased by those idiotic brothers of hers. Ha! She could make potions, and she wasn't a backward little fool like they so loved calling her.
"Thank you for helping me. It'll be nice to hang out with you, someday, if you'd wish." She hoped she didn't seem haughty, or stuckup, as she extended her hand. But long hours of her mother's training in her manners, and her somewhat weak threats appeared at the back of her head, and she ceased to not lower her hand. She didn't know much about muggles and their ways, but from what she could gather in the short exposition to muggles in the villages and towns not far from her family home, they had other means of befriending. She was actually scared the girl would start bumping and smacking her hand, chanting things, as she'd seen muggle boys do.
She waited for the girl's response. All the time wondering what her family would say when she made friends of muggle descent. But they always saw people of different blood as equals, and she was expected to act that way. Which she does: that all man is created equal, and all man should be respected equal.
