Letters Beyond Borders
@Asai TeruoSeptember 10th, 2025Dear Asai Teruo,
Hello my name is Damien Dragonclaw I hope this letter finds you in good fortune and in good health, I’m owling you as I saw your name on the international quillpal program and figured it would be exciting to have a friend or potential friend from another school in another country.
So first a little information about me is I am the son of Grant Dragonclaw and Evanora Dragonclaw, my father is a very well known and high ranking Auror for the Ministry Of Magic and then my mother owns a sweets shop called Dragonclaw Delights. I am a second year Ravenclaw at Hogwarts as well as on the quidditch team and I am a astronomy intern for Professor McCorie
Now that ive told you a bit about myself i have a few questions to ask you myself!
1. What country are you from and what are a few things that you could tell me about the country your from ?
2. Do you have any favorite sweets or something you enjoy ?
3. How is it in your school, like what’s version of the houses do y’all have as well as the uniform and professors and like. Along with your what is your favorite subject ?
4. How many languages can you speak and have you visited any countries that intrigue you!
And finally my final questions do you have a favorite animal or pet that you wish you could have!
Best regards,
Damien Dragonclaw.

Dear Damien Dragonclaw,
Thank you very much for your kind letter! It was exciting to receive it, and I am happy to make a new friend. It sounds like you have a fascinating family, and it must be wonderful (and perhaps a little intimidating!) to have a famous Auror as a father. Your mother’s sweet shop also sounds delightful—I would love to hear more about what kind of treats she makes.
You asked me some good questions, so I will do my best to answer them!
I was born and raised in Japan, and I attend Mahoutokoro School of Magic. My personal favorite sweet is daifuku, which is a soft rice cake with a sweet filling, often red bean paste or strawberry. I would love to try something from Dragonclaw Delights one day!
Mahoutokoro is a little different from Hogwarts. We do not have houses—instead, we remain with our class year from the time we begin boarding at eleven until graduation.
Each student receives enchanted robes that start out pale pink, and as we grow and work hard, the robes shift colors, from lavender or purple all the way to deep blue or even gold. It is a visible sign of how diligent a student is.
As of now, I am fluent in only 2 languages; Japanese and English. But I am trying to learn a few more. I have not visited any other countries unfortunately, but I really want to.
Now, I have a few questions for you as well, if you don’t mind:
1) What is it like to be on the Quidditch team at Hogwarts? Is the training intense?
2) Do your robes mark achievement in any visible way, or is success more private?
3) What kind of constellation is your favourite if you have one? Mine's Orion.
5) Do you have a pet at Hogwarts, or one waiting for you at home?
6) What do you usually do in your free time at Hogwarts?
I look forward to your reply, Damien. Thank you again for writing to me.
Best regards,
Asai Teruo

@Asai TeruoSeptember 14th, 2025Dear Asai Teruo,
You’re absolutely welcome! It’s also exciting to receive your letter as well and I’m happy to hear that you would like to be friends! My family isn’t too fascinating but it is wonderful to have a father as an Auror as I get to know about cool assignments he went on and my mother sweet shop is the best you would love it! She makes a lot of treats her famous one is her lemon pound cake.
Whoa born in Japan! That’s so cool! Does that mean you can speak Japanese’s ? Because I would love to learn Japanese!! Whoa Daifuku sounds delicious we must share recipes sometime! I would love to taste some Japanese sweets. Aww why are your robes so awesome I bet having enchanted robes would be epic!
Whoa you definitely got to teach me Japanese if you ever meet sometime!
Now I shall try and answer all your questions!
1. it’s fun! I haven’t official been any game but I did play in an unofficial game for the summer and we won! So it was fun and good practice!
2. No we sadly do not unless your a perfect or a head boy as you get a pin showing it but that’s it.
3. Oh my gosh my favorite constellation is Orion too! I love studying it!
4. I have one pet at Hogwarts with me my beautiful cat Apollo he’s named after one of my favorite Greek gods Apollo
And in my free time I read books, painting on canvas as well as studying Greek mythology!
Now I have two questions for you!
1. What do you do in your free time at Mahoutokoro ?
2. And what is one place you would like to visit ?
Best regards,
Damien Dragonclaw.

Dear Damien Dragonclaw,
Thank you so much for your reply! Your letter made me smile. Lemon pound cake sounds delicious—I think I would love your mother’s sweets very much. Apollo must be a charming cat. The name suits him perfectly. I like his name, especially since it connects with your love for Greek mythology.
It is wonderful that you play Quidditch! Even if you have only played in an unofficial game, winning must have been exciting. At Mahoutokoro, Quidditch is also very popular, though the winds can sometimes be tricky since we are so close to the sea.
In my free time, I usually read or draw, but I also like spending time outside. Or sometimes I just stay up and snack like the world is ending. My parents aren't too happy about it when I do that.
I also thought about your second question—what place I would most like to visit. Rome, of course, is high on my list. I have always admired its myths, and I want to see the ancient ruins and temples. But I would also like to see England one day—
Now, if you do not mind, I have a few questions for you as well:
1) What has been your favorite memory at Hogwarts so far—something you will never forget?
2) What is the most challenging subject for you at Hogwarts, and which one do you enjoy the most?
3) Do you have a favorite classroom or place in Hogwarts where you like to spend time?
4) Lastly, do you think you will one day follow your father’s path as an Auror, or do you dream of a different future for yourself?
Best regards,
Asai Teruo

sorry it took so long! @Asai TeruoSeptember 19th, 2025Dear Asai Teruo,
Wow! Those are some amazing and impressive answers! Apollo is such a charming cat I think you would enjoy him a lot! He’s super sweet! The unofficial qudditch match was one of my most favorite and absolutely amazing things I’ve done! It’s getting me excited in hopes for when I try out for the ravenclaw qudditch team! Also we both like to draw!! That’s so cool I’ll have to send you some of my sketches and other works of arts sometimes and snacking like the world is ending is the best especially with my moms sweet shop!
Roman sounds absolutely beautiful I hope to visit it too! And hey if your ever in England send me an owl I’ll gladly show you around give you the best tour of you’re life!
Now I shall try and answer all your questions!
1. My most fondest memory so far I think is when I first entered the astronomy classroom, it was just absolutely stunning and made me very impressed as it just had so mane fascinating things to look at.
2. The most challenging subject for me is Transfiguration, you would think that a class where imagination is the key I would have that nailed down! But oddly enough no something is just blocking me from achieving greatness I suppose. Now my favorite if you couldn’t guess by now is Astronomy. I absolutely adore the study of the stars and all things included in it, I actually own many astronomy books that I read freely whenever I can that’s how much I adore it ha ha!
3. I kind of already answered my favorite place in the castle in the first question so I’ll do my second favorite place ha ha. My second most favorite place in the entire castle would have to be the library. It’s like a endless playground of reading cool stories for me!
4. No, I do not think I will ever follow down his path. Me and my father don’t always see eye to eye. So it’s never really a good thing I would follow my mothers path as a sweet maker if it had to be one of them but I think I would love to make my own path maybe an artist or a model!
Now I have two questions for you!
1. What do you’re parents do for work and would you ever want to do that ?
2. What is you dream pet to own one day!
Best regards,
Damien Dragonclaw.
