One day had passed since the train ride, sorting ceremony and the discovery of his despicable sleeping arrangements. The spoiled child couldn’t for the life of him imagine how a school this big, and apparently well-known, couldn’t afford separate bedrooms for their students. At the very least, separate beds. Bunk beds as a concept had, up until last night, been a foreign concept to Camille, outside of what you’d imagine an orphanage to look like. As so many other things yesterday, he was not impressed by commoners life. Everything else in this castle didn’t exactly look cheap upon inspection, which left the only explaination: that these so-called head of houses hated them. Or perhaps it was the headmaster, since surely he was the one funding the place. Either way, in Camille’s mind, it was meant as a slight directed at him personally. These other children might not know what they were missing out, sleeping in shared bedrooms with bunkbeds, but someone like him did. And he hated it. Having not seen the other houses, he assumed everyone had it just as bad as the Ravenclaws.

He still hadn’t recovered, and being drowned in homework the first day of actual classes didn’t make things better. The French had been escorted to the library by some giggling girls. Not studious by nature—unless it was something beneficial to himself—he wasn’t about to fail his first task at this prison. Prison, after all, might be a more accurate word for a place with such rudimentary conditions. Still, Camille would endure, as he had managed everything else fate had so cruelly thrown at him. Though, things had never been quite this bad before.

Upon entering the library—alone—he stopped dead in his tracks, observing his surroundings. Spotting a piece of flattened gum on the floor the elves hadn’t gotten around to scrubbing off yet, and cobwebs sagging all the way up in the ceiling corners, it was only confirmed to him: this would be his greatest challenge yet. Taking a deep, grounding breath, preparing for whatever next awful discovery he would make, Camille walked with purpose to one of the book ailes.

He was on the hunt for a book in particular, about astronomy and planets. The tunnels of bookshelves stretched endlessly before him; how he would ever find the one he was looking for in this chaos was a complete mystery. Even more baffling was the expectation that Camille should spend all his free time searching for it, like some commoner rifling through hay for a needle. Obviously, there were stable servants—or at the very least, competent librarians—tasked with such trivialities. Not him. Pulling out a book by it’s spine at random and realizing it was not close to what he was looking for, he shoved it back in its slot in resignation. There must be someone avaliable to assist him.

Glancing around, he clocking the nearest human, the blue robes marking him as another Ravenclaw, clearly older than him by a year or two. “You,” he snapped his dainty fingers that were not made for searching through bound leather, in his direction to gain his attention. “You seem like you know what you’re doing. I’m looking for a book about astronomy. First year curriculum, I suppose. Find it for me, will you? I would greatly appreciate it.” Camille offered a smile that didn't quite reach the eyes, this boy would hardly know the difference.

Damien was currently in the library looking for any new books on astronomy for him to read in his free time as he enjoyed stocking up on books so that way throughout the year he could read them in his free time. He made a mental note of how the library didn’t seem to be so over crowded today which meant he had a chance to get all the books he was looking for and find a nice and quiet place to sit down and read some of these books, as he finally made his way to the astronomy books section he noticed a Ravenclaw boy who looked much younger and shorter than him which made him assume he was probably a first year staring at the books. He figured he needed one of the astronomy books as being an astronomy intern he had to help many of the first years fine books for there astronomy assignments.

He figured the boy must have already knew what he was looking for and left it alone as he put his hands on the books slowly looking at them as he tried to figure out which books he was looking for again. Oh man…I don’t remember the books I was looking for.. He slowly thought to himself as usual he knew what he was looking for but his mind was going blank and he couldn’t figure it out at the moment currently.

The more he thought about it the more lost in thoughts he got as he was trying to find really hard to figure out what book he was looking for but suddenly his thoughts was interrupted by the Ravenclaw boy from earlier who was snapping his fingers and trying to get Damien attention in a commanding way as if he was some sort of servant. Damien just ignored him at first -as his mother always taught him that no matter there blood status to treat everyone the same and he took that to heart and built his morals on that but something about the way this boy was trying to get his attention reminded him of his dad and it started to make his blood boiling just thinking about it.

Suddenly Damien lost his cool for a second as the boy tried to command him to find him a astronomy book, he was about to make a snarky and rude comment before he realized that the book he was talking about was a book that was usually located in the classroom or brought in diagon alley. He took a deep breath letting out a sigh before looking at the boy. “Um..the book your looking for is usually provided in the classroom or is brought in diagon alleyway” He quickly said before thinking about it for a second before getting a idea since he was past his first year now he wouldn’t really need his book from his first year so he could give it to the boy since it was in esteem condition almost as if it was just brought.

“I have my book from last year still in very good high quality just like the first day I brought it if you would like that ?” He quickly said as he tried to figure out solutions for this boy.

The boy tried, then inevitably failed, to ignore him. Studying his profile, Camille was certain he noticed it in the set of his jaw, the stiffness in his posture. The older Ravenclaw was clearly not used to having demands thrown at him, as he interpreted his unwillingess to run to his aid. Or perhaps he was, and simply didn’t enjoy being bossed around. Whatever the reason, it was none of his concern, his only concern was the annoyance of having to repeat himself, seeing all he needed was to find this book and then be gone just as quickly as he’d appeared. How anyone else felt couldn’t matter less to him, not in his world. A world that admittedly looked gloomier by the day, but he had to make do somehow. Finding this damn book would at least solve one of his stacking problems. If this boy refused to be of service, he’d just find someone else.

Luckily, he came to his senses soon after. “Um..the book you’re looking for is usually provided in the classroom or is bought in diagon alleyway." The boy said, unhelpfully. At best, it saved him hours of browsing shelves for nothing. As if he would have done that anyway.

Diagon Alley? Blinking, he stared at him with a strained smile. “Pardon, what?” With a narrowed look, he searched the boy in front of him for any sign of humor, to see if he was simply trying to play him for a fool. Nothing in particular struck him as insincere, so he would have to take his words for it. However, he that left everything else that was wrong about that statement. First of all, he hadn’t bought any of his books in Diagon Alley, so he couldn’t confirm whether they sold the right volume in store. Secondly, he couldn’t recall it on the supply list he’d received in the first place. How anyone was supposed to buy a book that they failed to list didn’t make any sense.

“That’s not very helpful now, is it…” Camille muttered, trying to keep his composure. Obviously, it wasn’t this boys fault that the faculty had utterly failed to include essential literature on the supply list, but it was wildly inconvenient now when he was here, several train hours away from the bookshop.

To save him the trouble of traveling to London for a book that might or might not be necessary for more than one class – come to think of it – the older offered to sell him his old one, promising brand new condition. Camille didn’t know whether to cry or laugh about the implication that he, out of all people, bought second hand. The thought of wearing clothes that another person had worn, unless it was truly a one-of-a-kind garment, disgusted him. However, books were not clothes. And it would most likely be a waste to buy a brand new book that he might only open once. As much as it was beneath him, Camille realized that it was the least time-consuming option.

The french boy laughed, albeit lacking any humor. “Does it look like I use anything second hand?” Rethorical question, he didn’t need him to answer. Then, resigned and willing to humor his offer, “Fine. I’ll buy the book from you and I’ll have it delivered to my dorm. The word was so painful to utter, he had to swallow back bile. “What’s your price?”

Damien just stayed quiet as he waited for the boy response if Damien assumed he was anything like how his father is which he could easily tell by the way he already acted that he wouldn’t like the idea of owning something that someone else had owned. Thats one thing that Damien never understood about purebloods was why so many of them act all high and mighty than others especially try to act higher than other purebloods, that was something he hated alot as just thinking about it made his blood boil. If they all were purebloods then wouldn’t that mean they be on equal footing no matter of what there families did at the end of the day they were all purebloods.

He tried to keep his composure calm while he was talking to this boy as he knew how to hide his emotions pretty well when he needed too, besides he can’t change peoples opinions or beliefs so all he can do is try and not let them effect him. So he kept the smile on his face not showing any other emotions as to not let this boy know what he was thinking. Just keep it together Damien…your just doing a good deed and helping a fellow Ravenclaw..

As he just looked at the boy his eye almost twitched as the boy let out a snarky comment about how Damien telling him that the book could be found in diagon alley or in the astronomy classroom wasn’t very helpful now. It wasn’t Damien fault that the boy didn’t think to get some extra books for Hogwarts as most people do but again Damien wasn’t going to say anything as he was keeping his cool.

Damien just couldn’t believe the audacity of this guy he accepted the offer for the book but he had to make another snarky comment asking if he looked like he used anything second hand and Damien felt like he should just let this one go and leave the boy alone to fend for his self and he almost did but due to his own selfless nature he opted to indure this boys comment as it wasn’t like he met people who wasn’t rude and a bit stuck up before.

“You don’t need to pay for anything I wouldn’t make you pay for the book besides we’re in the same dormitory” He quickly said in a calm manner as he was trying to think where it could be at as he think it was in his bag he currently had right now but he wasn’t too sure.

Few things in life came truly for free, not for the poor bastards fighting to keep a roof over their head, and definitely not when you lived the lavish, pompous life of a De Varenne, where only the finest things in life were worth it. Camille might have argued that some things did. Getting free things just by showing his gorgeous visage and being someone of his talents, was not anything new. At least for him. Still, since it was obvious that this boy didn’t exactly seem thrilled to be of assistance, clearly not a fan, the sudden charity was suspicious. People always expected to get something in return. Perhaps not money in this case, but something else. Even if, in the end, it was just a book.

It would be stupid to deny the offer when he insisted to give it to him. Out of all the things Camille would gladly spend unlimited money on – clothes, jewelry, even that first printed edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard worth a fortune, now collecting dust in his personal collection – random school books were definitely not one of them. It brought him no personal enjoyment, it was just one of those wastables required for school.

That the boy belonged to the same house as him came as no surprise, bearing the Ravenclaw colors, but that they apparently shared the same dorm did.

“We do?” He raised his eyebrows at the older student, as if hearing the news for the first time (he did), then added dismissively, “I must not have noticed.”

If what he claimed was the truth, he most likely deliberately ignored him last night, as he did with most people in his surroundings unless something they did were in immediate consequence for him. Granted, it was only the second day at school. And the previous night had ended in catastrophy, there were no way he would have been able to focus on anything else than not losing his goddamn mind. That possibility still hadn't been ruled out, only time would tell.

“Fine, I’ll take it, since you so generously offer. For free,” he drawled, the French accent curling through the syllables, making it sound more like a favor to the older boy to have anything he ever owned in Camille's possession, than a gift to himself. “Have it delivered to Camille." He was sure there were no one else with his name to mistake him from, even less someone with his resemblance.

"How soon can you bring it to me?” Camille preferred not to be kept waiting.

Damien stayed quiet as it seems the boy was pondering why Damien would give him the book for free which Damien did understand as growing up in the Dragonclaw household his father always taught him never take anything that’s free as it could lead to a favor being owed later down the life and so far he had listened to that advice but the older he got the more he realized that what his father had taught him wasn’t always right though he would never admit that to his face as if he ever uttered the words that his father wasn’t right well let’s just say his temper would definitely show.

As Damien waited for the boy to respond with his answer he figured he should probably look through his bag as he knew he left the book somewhere and was pretty certain he put it in his bag but when he is so lost in a book he couldn’t remember things. He was about to sit his bag down and go through it when he heard the boy asking if they did share a dorm as he must not have noticed which Damien didn’t blame him at all as Damien tended to stay quiet when he was reading a book opting to try and at least mind his own business.

“That make sense as I tend to stay quiet to myself and avoid alot of people despite me being very social when I’m reading I would like to not be disturbed.” He spoke softly in a gentle but elegant tone as you could hear the way he pronounced words before he sat down in a chair next to one of the libary tables and started to dig inside his bag.

He figured the best way to find this book was to just empty out his bag but in a neat and organize way, he reached into his bag before pulling out a black book with his fully name Damien Odysseus Dragonclaw engraved in it as it had gold foiling around it, he set it down on the table before pulling out his Greek mythology book as well as astronomy books that he brought not for school but for his own self enjoyment but it wasn’t the right astronomy book he was looking for.

He continued to search for the book to give to Camille he found his one of a kind copy of Fantastic Beast and where to find it, he has always had a fascinating with magical creatures even if the stars was where his passion was he still liked learning about it so his mother had gotten it customized as a gift for one of his birthdays. The book cover was black with gold foiling placed over the animals while the letters had this ruby colors on it making it pop out more. Damien had to say he did enjoy how this book looked because it meant that he was the only one who had it customized like this making his book special.

At long last he finally pulled out another book and it was just the book he was looking for. The book was blue with golden foil to give it a more elegant vibe to it and even with it being a year old seemed to be in the best condition than any other book here as it almost was if it had just been freshly made. He didn’t pay Camille no mind with his words as he figured if he did so it would just make both of them sick of each other.

“I actually have my copy right here though I hope you don’t mind the look i figured it would be better to make it look a little bit more interesting” He said while looking at him, Damien hopped this would please the book as every book in his collection he took extra precautions to make sure they were in the best care ever.

It was almost impressive how this boy could turn a backhanded comment, in this case Camille admitting indirectly to not being interested enough to acknowledge him in their shared dorm, and turn it into something more innocent. There was no point in correcting him, not when it had been painfully obvious that the younger Ravenclaw was being intentionally unpleasant. Only a brief crease between Camille’s brows gave it away, but by that point, he’d already started rummaging through his bag to look for the book he’d requested. Assumed. Since he had not gotten an explicit confirmation that he was looking for his book, he had no other choice but to stand there waiting, darting his eyes around them when book after book kept popping out of that backpack. Like it never came to an end.

Nothing about this older Ravenclaw was remarkable enough to warrant any further curiosity. Not enough to inquire more information about him, but Camille got a decent idea just by watching his collection of books. Books that he must have been carrying around with him at all times. It was only the second day of school, none of the years could have that much homework already. Greek Mythology, several astronomy books– though none of them the one he’d been promised– and some type of journal with the name Damien Dragonclaw engraved in golden foil. Camille glanced at him, studying the fall of unruly locks over his face. So, this must be Damien.

With his lacking interest in war history long before he was born, even less in countries outside of France, Camille did not recognize the surname as one of any importance. It was generally hard to believe that other important people, besides himself– so cruelly forced to study among commoners– wouldn’t be tearing the castle down in the pursuit of some proper beds. At least now he knew his name.

He sighed, opening his mouth to say that they didn’t need to do this now. At this point he was wasting just as much time as he would have, if he had spent it waiting for a delivery to his dorm, when a flashy copy of Fantastic Beasts joined the rest on the table. As a person with his own collection of collectors editions and exclusive items, it was a miracle he hadn’t seen this one before. Even more miraculous, how this boy had something that looked to be of high quality, and seemingly one of a kind that he himself did not already own. The Dragonclaw family must have a bit of money. Who would have thought. He tilted his head a bit. Consider his interest piqued.

Not a second too late, Damien declared he’d found the book he was looking for. Tearing his gaze away from the exclusive cover, he looked back at some blue hardcover with foil detailing. Apparently a little DIY project. Not that he would know, if Damien hadn’t told him, having never seen what the book was supposed to look like in the first place.

With a slightly less impatient tone than previously, he forced a smile and a subtle shake of his head, as he reached out to accept the book from him. “I don’t mind.” Turning the copy in his hand, he leisurely examined the quality. As promised, there wasn't any obvious wear and tear from what he could tell at first glance. Just as new.

“You clearly love your books,” he noted with a slight drawl, nodding to the piles on the table coming from Damien’s bag alone. Whether he meant it as a compliment or insult, he'd leave for interpretation. Although, they all looked to be in excellent shape.

Snobbishly, he pursed his lips faintly. “I’ve never seen that cover of Fantastic Beasts before. Collector's edition? Not bad.” His tone trailed, airy and a bit surprised, but edged with a reluctant approval to see something like that, in his possession.

Damien set the astronomy book down gently onto the table as to not mess up the cover or anything at all as he started to put away his other books back in his bag, every single book he owned he loved it like it was a pet and that meant he took care of it. He knew it was kinda silly as the Dragonclaws were very wealthy with his mother owning her own business and his father being a top Auror working for the ministry plus there generational wealth so he very well know that they could easily replace them but he was very sentimental so every new book he got he cherished it and would never let it go.

As he continued to pack up his books he heard Camille mentioned how he didn’t mind they the book was sort of customized which is good as that meant he didn’t have to worry about angering the boy or anything. As he continued to pack his bag with the rest of his books he looked over at the Fantastic Beast one admiring it. Besides his astronomy and Greek mythology books this was one of his favorite books as inside the Dragonclaw Study Damien had. A large collections of books especially rare collector editions versions as when he was younger his mother would purchase many books for him as she enjoyed reading any kind of books with Damien as it brought them closer.

That was one of the reasons why Damien thought that book was special because he was the only one who owned a copy like that as his mother got it as a special gift for his birthday and because it held fond memories of him and his mother together. When he head Camille speak again about how he seemed to care for his books a lot he gave him a sheepish smile. “Yeah I do especially the other collectors editions books I have back in the study at the manor I mainly read if I’m not painting a canvas” He said as he spoke gently, some may have seen that as bragging but with his tone some would be able to tell how Damien just really enjoyed books.

He was about to put up the Fantastic beats book before he stopped as Camille mentioned how he never seen that cover on the book before and asked if it was a collectors edition before saying it wasn’t bad. “Oh! Um yeah it’s a collector edition though I have all the other collectors editions this one is one of a kind only two was made and my mother got it for me so I’ve treasured it ever since” He said smiling at it as the ruby red shimmered in the light of the lanterns inside the library.

Damien remembered that the other one was brought and added into the Dragonclaw study which he didn’t understand why but he wasn’t complaining just meant if someone stole one he still has his but he know that would never happen. He picked up the book and got ready to add it back into his bag.

Camille lingered on the ruby red catching the light, and what Damien had said, about two copies ever being made with that particular cover. His interest lay not in its contents, beasts in any form did not particularly fascinate him. It was the knowledge of having something exclusive that drew his interest. However, the concept of asking, demanding someone of unknown influence and background, to give him something Camille couldn’t buy on his own, left a bitter taste in his mouth. He didn’t need to beg him of anything. It wasn’t even that good, he convinced himself. A complete lie, since he still wished it to decorate his already fabulous collection.

The observation about Damiens love for books had simply been an off-handed comment, not meant to invite further conversation about it, because frankly, he didn’t care. Either way, apparently the other boy saw it as the opportunity to share his passions with him. Which was reading — figured – and painting on canvas. Camille had not asked. Wouldn’t have cared to ask either, if he hadn’t forced the information upon him. Since his interest in this boy was momentarily peaked, due to the exclusive edition of Fantastic Beasts, but also his apparent interest in the arts, the younger Ravenclaw gazed at him with a skeptical eyebrow raised.

Intrigued enough, Camille asked casually, “You paint?” His tone made it sound less like a question and more like a challenge. “And you enjoy that? Even if it never hangs in a gallery — say, Le Louvre?”

Surely enough, he’d never heard any art galleries showcasing anything from an artist named Dragonclaw before. He had no high expectation that Damien produced anything of quality, brushstrokes coming from the hand of someone barely thirteen years of age.

In Camille’s world, the public recognition and what you could gain from your talents were what mattered, rather than personal satisfaction from practicing a hobby. An art form he appreciated nonetheless, as long as it was good. Yet, he couldn’t help envying him, aware that he himself had few interests he truly enjoyed for their own sake. With no duty or expectations tied into it. At first, all of it—dance, music, even acting—had been fun, and Camille still enjoyed it. With his talents extraordinaire it would be a waste not to. But with the growing pressure from his father, somewhere along the lines, performing gradually felt less like play and more like a job.

Feeling the weight of the book in his hands, Camille flexed his fingers and let his gaze return to the ruby red cover. Rounding back to the topic of exclusive items, he asked, “Only two copies?” The french boy still couldn’t believe one to be in the hands of Damien, out of all people.

“You must be quite proud,” he added. And probably not for sale. Only over his dead body would he try to bargain with Damien. Despite himself, he let his curiosity push further. “Who owns the second copy?”

Damien smiled fondly as he thought about his paintings back home hanging up in his personal art studio in the Dragonclaw Manor. He loved painting as it was one of his many hobbies as the Dragonclaws loved to donate some of them to charity but the most exquisite ones Damien kept for himself as he hopped one day to show them off to someone or show it in a art gallery. He wanted to work on a special painting like a portrait as he had never had a chance to work on a portrait before the issue was he just had to find the perfect subject he could paint.

He gave a small charming smile as he looked at Lorenzo. “Yeah I do paintings but I haven’t put them into art galleries yet.” He softly said before he opened another compartment of his bag before pulling out a small canvas that has a beautiful water color painting of the Great Lake here at Hogwarts. “This is a example of some of the paintings I do I keep the more extravagant ones in my art studio at the manor and some we donate where we host charity galas” He said as he mainly donated the Gryffindor ones to the charity gala that his family hosted a lot of times as a matter of fact he was sure they were hosting a gala this year in December which meant after his birthday he would have to return home.

Speaking of galas that made him wonder if his family would invite other families like Camille as the Dragonclaws invited Purebloods who they say as worth there time or in Damien fathers eyes people he deems worthy enough to make conversation with. He never understood why his father was like this which clearly showed the differences in how Damien and him thought about people as he only thought of people as tools or a way to better himself while Damien saw people as a way to better himself and connections but also build realtionships.

He suddenly snapped out of his thoughts as he turned his focus back to Camille where he seemed to be a little shocked at the fact that there was only two copies ever made of this version of the book and that Damien of all people had it. “Huh oh yeah only two were ever made then they auctioned them off” He said smiling as he remembered his mother telling him about the auction when he was younger when her and his father came back from the auction. “I mean I’m quite proud to have it in my collection as I do enjoy collecting rare books to read but not in the sense to brag and flaunt my wealth as my family already does that” He quickly said trying to sound humble as he really didn’t want to brag about all the books he owned rather they were rare or common.

His eyes widen as Camille asked who owned the second copy before he rubbed his neck and let out a nervous chuckle. “Ha ha um…my family does…my mother she um…thought it wouldn’t be fair to pass up on both of them so she won them at the auction so ones my personal one and one is kept in the study in Dragonclaw manor” As he said that he tried to sound modest as he didn’t want to seem like he was bragging or anything.
