Flying in the Fresh Air PV: Damien Dragonclaw

Landon was looking forward to Quidditch this year, though it also made him a little nervous. This was Atlas' last year and that would mean that Landon would take up the mantle of First String Keeper, so he definitely needed to train harder and make people realize that he is a formidable opponent too. It would be hard to live up to Atlas' reputation and abilities, but Landon would do his best. He tried hard to do well with his flying ability, and tried not to let his nerves get to him.

He flew happily through the air, sighing as he relaxed into the flying. He had really missed it and it was nice to know that he was free to do it now, even if he still had to obey the rules and also make sure not to miss any classes. Landon loved school almost as much as he loved flying, so he always tried to follow the rules. He loved history, but he also loved flying. He wasn't sure of what he wanted to do after school, but thankfully he had a few years to figure that out still and he was happy to have the extra time. It seemed silly to think that he would know what his future held before he was ready. Plus, wasn't it kind of hard to plan for a future when he was going to be so young when he graduated? It all felt hard to wrap his head around.

Landon flew lower to the ground and hovered there, before realizing that someone had joined him. Landon smiled as he saw Damien flying next to him, his eyes gentle. "Hey Damien," he said with a hum. "How are you?" he asked. Hovering in place, Landon waited for Damien to respond, though he closed his eyes and just let himself feel the fresh air for a moment while he waited.

Landon smiled fondly as he looked at Damien. He thought of Damien as a bit of a younger brother figure so it was cool to see him again after their summers apart. "I'm doing well. Glad to be back at school where I can fly more," he said with a hum. He had really missed being up in the air all the time. He grinned as Damien flew circles around him for a moment. "Congrats! I'm glad you are on the team, though I definitely still have to root for Hufflepuff over Ravenclaw," he said with a laugh.

He noticed that Damien hovered next to him and seemed to be lost in thought and he didn't interrupt. He figured that Damien was thinking about Quidditch, and he could totally relate. He was happy to let people take a little bit to think about their excitement. He grinned as Damien spoke again. "Competition, maybe? But it will be fun to play against you either way. Are you second or first string?" he asked curiously. "I'm still second string Keeper, but that's okay. Gives me more time to get better at the sport before I'm the lead Keeper," he explained.

Landon did want to play in matches, but if he could sit and watch Atlas and learn new skills without the other team knowing, that was always a good thing too. He was always willing to learn more and, if it meant not getting knocked off his broom early, he was happy to wait.

Landon smiled as he listened to how excited Damien was. He was happy that Damien was excited about playing Quidditch and being back at school. Landon was also really excited about both things. He loved school and he loved being able to fly whenever he wanted, within reason. Obviously, skipping class to go flying was frowned upon, and Landon only ever missed classes if he overslept or was sick. He did his very best to be a good student, though he wasn't on the level of some of the Ravenclaws and Slytherins. Landon did excel at History of Magic though, so he was happy to be back in school to learn more.

"My summer was good. I didn't go to summer camp this year because my closer friends didn't go, so I was at home the whole time, but we still had a good time. It's nice to be home around my family. We are all very close," he explained. He knew Damien didn't have a great relationship with his father in particular, so he didn't mean to sound like he was bragging about his own home life, but he was really close to his family. Though Harper, his twin, could be a handful and manipulative, she was much less so with her family.

Lanodn smiled as Damien continued to fly circles around him, laughing softly. The younger boy had a ton of excited energy and Landon thought it was amusing. "Chaser suits you," he observed. "High energy and just genuinely wanting to be a part of the action. Keeper suits me, because I am protective," he admitted. Landon couldn't see himself playing any other position on the Quidditch team, nor could he see himself doing broom racing or dueling. He liked Quidditch more than anything.

Landon thought for a moment. "I don't know about practicing together... I don't want to make you too good," he said with a grin. "But maybe. It could give me an advantage too, knowing how you play," he added with a laugh.

Landon smiled as he saw how excited Damien was. He really appreciated the younger boy's joy of life. Landon wasn't old or anything, but he wasn't always as cheerful as he used to be. Maybe it was puberty, maybe it was just the reality that things can go wrong at any time, but Landon wasn't always as excitable as he used to be. He was still happy to fly though, and the smile didn't leave his face when he was in the air.

He listened, intrigued by what Damien was telling him about summer camp. "I probably should have participated in summer camp, but I just sort of forgot it was happening," he admitted. "It sounds like it was really fun though!" he added. He chuckled as Damien was speaking so quickly that it was almost like he couldn't get the words out quick enough. He smiled as he looked at Damien. "Maybe next year I'll go to summer camp again. I liked my experience at the last one I went to, but I definitely didn't participate in all the activities I wanted to."

Landon smiled as Damien agreed that Keeper was the right position for Landon. "It's less violent than some of the other positions too," he observed. Landon didn't mind that Quidditch got a little rough sometimes, but he was always a little nervous for his teammates when they got knocked off their brooms.

"I'm not scared you will win," he said with a laugh. "I'm more worried that my team would think I'm conspiring with the enemy if we trained together," he added. "I'll have to ask my Captains if it is okay," he said. He didn't want to make the team mad at him, but it could be fun playing a little bit of Quidditch type things with Damien. He would be able to see where Damien's talents were and where his weaknesses were too. Landon would have to run that by the team Captains before he agreed to it. When Landon practiced for fun with friends, they were all Hufflepuffs so it was less like he was working with the other teams.
