After adjusting her uniform, Victoria quietly made her way toward the Astronomy classroom. Her wavy brown hair fell down to her waist, with a small section tied back on each side with a white ribbon. Her fringe gently framed her face, and despite the cold, distant look in her blue eyes, there was a small spark of excitement there. Victoria had always loved astronomy, and her interest in the subject grew more with each passing day.
The Astronomy tower was dimly lit by enchanted orbs that hovered near the ceiling, casting a soft blue glow over the room. The faint scent of old parchment and polished wood lingered in the air, mixed with a subtle chill from the high windows that never quite closed properly.
She glanced around; most of the seats were taken, but there was an empty one next to a boy with curly, light brown hair that looked unusually soft. Victoria hesitated for a moment before approaching and sitting down, carefully leaving a respectful amount of space between them. She placed her notebook and ink neatly on the table and took a few seconds to observe the boy.
There was a flicker of curiosity in the boy’s grey-blue eyes. 'He must like astronomy too,' Victoria thought to herself. Then, she quietly began fiddling with the corner of her notebook. There was still time before the professor arrived—Victoria always came early when it came to astronomy.
She glanced at the boy again, her blue eyes were calm and distant, yet free of any ill intent. There was a slight frown on his pale face that made Victoria sense something was bothering him.
Victoria had never been particularly bold. In fact, she preferred silence over small talk, and books over people. But something about this boy’s expression stirred something in her. She'd seen that kind of look before—on herself, in the mirror, on days when the world felt just a bit too heavy to carry. That familiar sense of being there, but not really.
'Should I ask him what's wrong?' she wondered, biting her lower lip silently. Her eyes softened a bit with concern.
But she didn’t even know him. Asking a complete stranger to talk about whatever was bothering him might come off as strange—or even unsettling. Still, her conscience wouldn’t let her just ignore him and focus on the class.
Victoria sighed softly. She didn’t know what to say or how to approach him. Then again, words had never really been her strength. She reached for her quill and wrote something neatly in her notebook, read it a few times to make sure it was perfect, then hesitantly slid it toward the boy, her heart beating fast with nervous anticipation.
"Hey... I hope this doesn't come off as weird, but you seem like something might be bothering you. I noticed the way you looked just now, and I guess I just wanted to check in.
Of course, I don’t mean to pry, and you don’t have to say anything if you’d rather not—it's completely okay.
I just thought maybe it’s nice to know someone noticed, even if we don’t really know each other yet."
Victoria nervously played with the hem of her uniform skirt, she swallowed hard, waiting for an answer, she just hoped that the boy wouldn't think she is stupid.

Damien was sitting in Astronomy classroom as he was listening to the professor teach the lesson they had today. But Damien felt off today as something was bothering him deep down inside. It was a month before his birthday and this was the first time he’d celebrate it alone from his mother and to be quite honest he felt uncertain as he hadn’t really met many people and rather be home with his mother and maybe his father a little bit. So deep down he felt homesick. He thought that being in astronomy class his favorite class out of every other class in Hogwarts would make him feel better but instead it just made him feel worse as everytime he tried to focus he’d get a reminder of all the gifts his mother had given him for his previous birthdays which was mostly books on astronomy and Greek mythology. He signed as he just went back to writing his notes as he tried to not look so down about being homesick. As Damien continued to write his notes he looked down at the side of his desk noticing a note from a Slytherin girl next to him laying there. As he took the note to open it and read it he noticed how she could tell he seemed upset and wanted to know if everything was alright, Damien found that sorta of sweet he wasn’t expecting anyone to notice what was wrong with him but he figured maybe telling someone would make him feel better. He took the piece of paper and began to write on it. Im fine, just a little homesick is all but thank you for your concern I’m just homesick due to my birthday coming up soon and it’s my first time not celebrating with my mother After he wrote that on a piece of paper he gently set it onto her desk before continuing his notes. |

Victoria carefully took the note from the boy and read it. Normally cold and distant, her blue eyes softened slightly. The boy seemed sincere and genuinely upset, which caused a small ache in Victoria’s heart.
“Homesickness?” Victoria murmured gently, her voice kind and calm. She wasn’t good with words, but she gave the boy a comforting, small smile, the dimple on her right cheek appearing.
“Happy early birthday,” she said softly, her voice carrying the kind of warmth she rarely showed to anyone. But even as she spoke the words, her mind was already moving. She wasn’t sure why she cared so much—maybe it was the loneliness in his eyes, or maybe the way boy seemed kind and friendly.
She glanced down for a second, thinking. A proper birthday. Nothing too big, not something that would make him uncomfortable. But something small. Thoughtful. He didn’t seem like the type who wanted a crowd anyway.
Maybe she could ask the house-elves for a small cake—nothing extravagant, just enough for a few people. Or maybe something shaped like a Quidditch ball if he was into that sort of thing? No, better to ask around first. She’d have to find out what he liked. Chocolate cake seemed safe, though. Who didn’t like chocolate cake?
And maybe she could borrow a record player from the Hufflepuffs—they were always lugging music around. A quiet spot near the greenhouses could work. Or the astronomy tower, if the weather stayed clear. That spot always felt like magic, even more than the rest of Hogwarts.
She’d need to talk to some of his friends—did he even have close ones? She’d seen him talking to someone in the Small Hall… maybe they could help. If not, she’d make it work on her own. She wasn’t good at this kind of thing, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try.
Victoria wasn’t entirely sure what to do in a situation like this—she had never missed home before. Hogwarts was her home.
“You don’t have to feel alone,” she said softly. “Because you’re not. Maybe if we talk to the Headmaster, he’d let you talk to your mum.” Victoria felt like the problem belonged to both of them now—and she truly believed that.
“Still, I hope you feel better soon. And if you ever want to talk, I’m here.”
After murmuring those words just loud enough for the boy to hear, Victoria reached into her bag and pulled out one of the chocolates she always carried with her, offering it to him to help him feel a little better. After all, chocolate fixed everything.

Damien smiled at her gently as it was nice to have someone wishing him a early birthday as he hadn’t met many people yet so he was just kinda still getting used to meeting new people and attempting to be there friend. He didn’t even know this girl name but she had been kind to him so he made a note to one day repay her for that. He continued to listen to her speak and she mentioned he didn’t have to feel alone as maybe if he talked to the headmaster he could see his mother on his birthday. And why that was a nice thought and he was intrigued by it but he didn’t wanna be seen as weak by other students so they could use that against him. He could even picture the voices of his fellow peers saying how he needed his mommy and was a mamas boy. Which he was a mama boy and he had no problem with being one but he’s would ultimately feel embarrassed. He just toss that thought away as he looked at the girl as he finally got out of his thoughts as he noticed her mention of he ever want to talk she was here for him as she offered him a piece of chocolate, he smiled at it before taking the chocolate before looking at her. “Thanks..” He said keeping it short and simple as he wasn’t expecting her kindness. |

Victoria simply nodded politely and observed the boy for a few seconds. The dim moonlight streaming through the Astronomy classroom windows made his eyes glimmer.
She wanted to ask his name—but maybe he didn’t want to talk. Maybe he just wanted to focus on astronomy.
Victoria didn’t want to bother him or embarrass herself by talking too much and sounding foolish. So, she said nothing more and rested her cheek on her palm, turning her attention to the professor instead.
Astronomy had always fascinated her. Ever since she was little. It was the only topic she could talk about with her mother without it turning into an argument.Victoria began spinning her quill mindlessly between her fingers.
The boy sitting next to her seemed to enjoy astronomy too—he kept taking notes and listening with full focus. His brow furrowed slightly when he wrote, like he was completely lost in thought. His handwriting was neat, careful—almost too careful. There was something almost shy about the way he avoided looking up, like he was trying not to draw attention.
Victoria thought they might actually get along quite well. He seemed calm. Kind. Still, she didn’t want to break the silence. If she said something now, what would she even say? “Hi, I’m Victoria”—boring. “Do you like astronomy?”—obvious. She shook her head slightly. Better to say nothing than to say something weird. She wondered if he found her presence annoying. Maybe he had noticed her glancing at him earlier. Did she seem nosy? Overly observant? Victoria sighed inwardly—she always overthought things like this. So she lowered her gaze back to her notebook.

Damien continues to write notes as he wanted to make sure he didn’t miss anything of this astronomy lesson. But he keep thinking about that girl next to him that had been pretty nice to him and while he didn’t know her he figured it would be rude to not at least try and start a conversation with her as he didn’t want it to be awkward. There was just one problem he didn’t know what to say to her. Fuck…what do I even say to her I don’t even know what she likes. He sighed as he tried to figure out what to do, he decided to just say something random to try and figure out if maybe they had something in common. “So um…what’s your favorite subject?” He asked as he continued to write down his notes. He didn’t know why that was the question he asked her but it was just a basic question that he knew most people would probably ask besides he was also curious as what her answer would be but he had a prettt good feeling it was astronomy. |

As Victoria wrestled with her thoughts, the boy’s voice pulled her gently back to the present. Her blue doe eyes caught the soft glint of the candlelight as they lifted toward him, a faint spark of curiosity flickering within them. He was still hunched over his notes, brow furrowed in quiet concentration.
“…Astronomy,” she said, barely above a whisper, as if testing the word on her tongue. Her fingers, slightly ink-stained, turned the quill in slow, nervous circles. “Yours is astronomy too, right?” Her voice wavered, not quite confident but not shy either—somewhere in between.
She studied his profile for a few seconds longer than she meant to, eyes tracing the way the lamplight hit the edge of his cheekbone. Something about the calmness in his movements contrasted with the storm in her chest.
Victoria bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from smiling—something about this whole moment felt oddly fragile. She ducked her head, letting her hair fall like a curtain as she turned back to her notebook.
“…I’m Victoria,” she murmured, almost as if telling the parchment rather than him. “Victoria Blythe.” She glanced sideways again, just for a moment, and added, “Nice to meet you.”

Damien stayed quiet as he listened to her speak. He could tell that she seemed nervous and almost hesitant to speak as if she was worried that if she was to continue speaking she would mess up or ultimately say something wrong. He made note to appear more appreciable as maybe the way he acted made her feel nervous. He give her a small smile as he heard her quietly almost as if she was talking to herself instead of him. He looked a little surprise but only for a split second before he immediately changing back to a netural expression. He hadn’t expected her favorite subject to be astronomy as he thought she seemed like someone who’d like transfiguration or potion but maybe this girl was fully of surprises yet to be discovered. He looked at her examining her facial expression. This girl she’s…she’s truly something else maybe today won’t be too bad He thought to himself before he heard her say her name, Victoria Blythe. Damien thought that was a pretty name and smiled at her. “Thats a nice name…I’m Damien, Damien Dragonclaw |

Victoria felt a bit of relief when the boy smiled. Something in her chest eased—it was subtle, but real. So, she wasn’t making him uncomfortable after all. That was good. She let herself return the gesture, offering a gentle, unforced smile—the kind that didn’t feel rehearsed. The small dimple in her right cheek made a brief appearance, though she didn’t even notice.
“Dragonclaw? That matches your house name, like Ravenclaw—what a nice coincidence,” she said, glancing at him with a touch of amusement in her eyes. She hoped she didn’t sound completely ridiculous, though a small voice in the back of her head wondered if she was trying too hard. Why was she even commenting on house names? Still, she stood by it. It was kind of a charming name.
There was a small pause. The kind that wasn't awkward, just lingering. Victoria absentmindedly tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear, her fingers brushing her cheek before she tilted her head slightly, studying him again.
“...Mhm.” She hesitated, just a beat, then added more softly, “What kind of things do you like?”
Her voice had shifted—calmer, more open. It wasn’t just a polite question; there was intent behind it. Genuine curiosity. If she really wanted to give him a birthday worth remembering, she had to know what made him light up—what mattered to him. Otherwise, it wouldn’t mean much, would it?
She glanced away for a moment, then back at him, her blue eyes a little more focused now.
“…Like…” she began, slower this time, “if someone were to get you a gift, what would make you happy?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she mentally kicked herself. Why would she phrase it like that? It was way too direct. Way too obvious. She could already feel her ears warming slightly.
Maybe he wouldn’t notice. Or maybe he would. Either way, she kept her expression steady, hoping she hadn’t just completely ruined the moment.

Damien eyes just looked over her as he noticed that all the anxiety and stress she was just feeling all of a sudden vanished as she let out what looked to be a sigh of relief before giving him a smile. This smile didn’t look forced like the many he had given at events and parties instead it had actually emotion in it Damien could even see a dimple poking out which was something he didn’t know she event had. He listened to her talk about how his last name of Dragonclaw sounded oddly similar to Ravenclaw and how it was a nice coincidence. Damien had heard this so many time as so many people pointed that out whenever he introduced himself to them. Normally he would say they were ridiculous and needed to stop chasing stupid ideas but he had heard it so many times he decided to let it go as it wasn’t important. She didn’t seem to utter a word at least not yet and the silent was deafening to say the least he even noticed how she seemed to tuck a few strands of her hair behind her ears, Damien noted that as a sign she was still nervous. The silence was suddenly broken as she asked Damien what kind of things did he like. That was a interesting question as Damien liked a lot of things like astronomy, Greek mythology but most people knew that what they didn’t know is that he liked baking, painting and mainly reading but he was at least a bit curious why she wanted to know about him. He glanced at her for a moment still in thought and he was about to ask her why she wanted to know but she answer the question herself. So that’s why she wanted to know what did I like, she wants to get me a birthday gift….but I’ve barley known her for only a day why would she give me a birthday gift ?” He thought to himself confused as it didn’t make any sense as to why she’d give him a gift when they haven’t even know each other for a whole day. “I like um..panting and reading but I also like to bake and read Greek mythology.” He muttered out as she already knew he liked astronomy so there wasn’t really any point to mention it again. |
