OOC Notes: Sorry for the late post!
"Oh come on--" Casey sighed as he closed the comic over, letting it flop slightly as he lay flat on the grass of his field of solitude. "To Be Continued". The dreaded words that appeared in bold text when something awesome had come to an end, for now at least. He lightly tossed it into the pile containing the two other issues he had read beforehand. Three volumes was not enough for the admittedly awesome series Emily managed to catch his interest in reading. Anthropomorphic mice from Mars, carrying laser blasters and riding motorcycles as they defend their planet from invading fish people... Only Muggles could come up with a story like that!
Casey would never say it to Emily but he was hooked on these book thingies with colourful pictures. He had to give her credit for being able to nab the copies he had been silently asking for. "I've started it, so I may as well finish it" was the excuse he used when inquiring if Emily could try and track down the rest. It was either that, or the phrase, "I need to know if Throttle gets the girl back!".
Casey hadn't read beyond the scope of his textbooks in a while, even if it was just sixty pages of action images from start to finish with hyperbolic speech bubbles peppered throughout. He didn't mind, for several reasons; number one, it was Emily who got him into it since his birthday back in October. Secondly, it was a pretty cool collection to read despite how short it was. And lastly... Anything was better than reading prescribed chapters for classes over and over and over again.
Honestly, there was only so many pages of education that Casey could take each day!
He sat up and packed up the comics into his bag. He considered asking Emily for more recommendations like that. She always managed to surprise him with something cool every now and then.
Just as he was about to leave, he caught sight a figure nearby. Casey squinted before finally recognising the lost soul that orbited near his spot.
He muttered quietly to himself. "Huh... Look who it is".
Lucy.

Lucy let out a sigh of contentment as she finished her last brush strokes of her painting. This one had a night sky illuminated by a full moon, with shadows and creepy things lurching, slightly hidden, in her canvas. Her representation of transforming into a werewolf at night. She could never show anyone this painting, as it might reveal that she was a werewolf and she did not want that. Her parents would just be concerned that she was thinking about when she was a werewolf, as they preferred to pretend she wasn't. Only Michael might have noticed the hard work she put into it...but he was gone now. It was best to just do what her aunt suggested and forget about him. He wasn't going to be coming back, and chances were he was dead.
She took a couple deep breaths, trying to find a happier subject to think about. Summer! I can't wait for summer! She eventually came upon the thought. It was true, she really wanted to just go home and relax with her family for the summer. She might decide to go to summer camp, but maybe not. It really depended on how she was feeling at the time. For now, she could just look forward to being back home with her mother and all the farm animals. Perhaps she could even convince her mother to get her a pet for school! It wasn't like she really had any friends for company. She was too scared of them finding out her secret, or maybe getting betrayed by them. Getting close to people scared her now, as everyone she had ever really gotten close to had disappeared, except for her mother. I just worry that I might get close to someone, and they disappear.
And her thoughts were going dark again. She really needed a summer break. As Lucy shook off her thoughts, she looked around her, soaking in the calmness of her favorite spot in the school. Nature always did seem to have a way to calm her down. Maybe I should go back to my dorm. My books won't read themselves after all. So she put away her painting and stood up, preparing to leave. As she looked around again, she noticed a boy near her, also seeming to be about to leave. As she began to walk away, something about that boy stopped her. She did a double take, and realized that it was someone she knew. Casey, that nice boy who had talked to her a while back. With a smile, Lucy walked over to him. She had no idea what to say, but awkward company was still better than no company, and he didn't seem busy at the moment. " Hi Casey."

Casey's smile visibly widened when Lucy came over to him. He considered her to be one of the "real ones". A real friend, that is. Someone he felt he could talk with without feeling like he was wasting their time, whether it would be because of his attitude or his reserved nature. Even though she appeared somewhat shy, Lucy was pretty cool on the whole, according to Casey. She had all the things that Casey knew he could put up with. Sweet. Nice. And cute, as a side note. Talking with her last time helped his mood, and he confidently admitted to himself that he didn't mind her company one bit. Looking at her, he felt it did wonders for her as well. He rose from his spot on the grass and walked up to meet her just as she was coming down towards him.
"Well, if it ain't Lady Lucy," he greeted. "Came to curl up in the grass too? Or maybe you're back for more bittersweet brotherly reminiscence? Though I hope things have started lookin' up for you since the last time we did that".
He signalled for her to come over as he reassumed his position on the grass beside his belongings, settling into the little mound he built himself the entire time he sat there. Propped up on one shoulder, he faced Lucy.
"So, let's hear it then. How's life?"

Casey must have noticed her walking toward him, as he met her halfway. She smiled as he talked about when they had met before. She had gotten emotional then, crying about her brother. Now, she felt much happier about her whole situation, and was determined to stay happy. She had really come out of her shell this year, learning to be fine with crowds and becoming a little less ashamed about being a werewolf. She wouldn't tell anyone about being a werewolf, obviously, as that could turn really bad for her. Lucy was more brave now, not more stupid.
But back to Casey, who was waving her over to where he had been sitting. She grinned at him, wondering how she was so lucky to have him as a friend. He really seemed to be interested in how her life was going, unlike other people she knew who just wanted to talk about how they were. The change was refreshing, and it made her appreciate Casey even more.
"I'm doing great! My brother is still missing, but I'm sure he'll turn up soon. My mom is super excited for me to come home, and might even let me go to some no-maj summer camps, which I've wanted for a long time. How is your life going?" She asked, her words tumbling out quickly. It had been so long since she had had someone to talk to, and talking with Casey felt so easy, unlike talking with...practically everyone else she had met.
Lucy was sure that Casey now realized what a boring life she had. He probably had a much more exciting life, where he did more than homework and avoiding crowds. He just seemed like he lived a really cool life. Although to her, most people had cool lives, or at least lives that were cooler than hers. Sometimes she really hated living on a farm. Cool life or not aside, Casey seemed like a nice guy, and she hoped that he was doing well. "Are you excited for summer?"

Seeing Lucy in a good mood was already a good sign of things to come. It was a stark contrast to their meeting from last time, back when they first met. Casey was glad to see that Lucy wasn't a relentless, moody brooder like he was. In fact, seeing her smile so genuinely was enough to make him smile with the same energy. Although there was the faintest trace of bitter sweetness when she mentioned his brother. Even though it was still a damn shame to hear Lucy's brother was still missing, it was easy for Casey to relate to, and he nodded with her.
"That makes two of us," he laughed half-heartedly. " Mr 'Tall and Blonde' is still missing in our family too. But other than that, I'm happy to report that life is lookin' up. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that yours is startin' to look good to, eh?" Assuming Lucy's brightly expression was any proof of what he was getting from her.
Casey was anxious for the school year to end. He knew he was on the cusp of securing some solid leads that connected to his own missing brother. To think he was more excited for something like that and not just the joy of not having History of Magic on Tuesdays for two months. "I have a feelin' this summer's gonna be somethin' special. Not sure how or why... Just a gut feelin'. But yeah". Casey nodded assuredly. "I'm lookin' forward to the summer. I ain't got no definitive plans for the holidays other than summer camp though... I'm guessin' you do? You look like a gal that plans ahead for vacations, itineraries and all that".
