13 February, 2025. The Flamel Fountain.
Kavi's breath spiraled up into the air as he paced around the fountain. He hated the cold- being from a school in the middle of the jungle, he wasn't very used to it, not to mention the last time he was somewhere frigidly cold... well, he didn't want to think about that. He still felt bad. How does one even apologize for something like that? He shook his head and shoved his hands further into his pockets. Now was not the time to be thinking about that. It should be any moment now until Aly showed up- a sixth year from Hogwarts. His own age. With Valentine's Day right around the corner, he knew some other students were putting a lot of pressure to meet a special someone, but really, Kavi was just excited to have a friend. His schoolmates that attended the Beauxbatons trip were all younger- not that he minded, but sometimes it was hard to relate to them. This meeting couldn't have come at a better time.

But as the clock ticked on, he started to get a little worried. He double-checked his watch, which he had changed to the local time. Maybe he had set it wrong, and still had an hour to wait? Even though he tried to convince himself of this, he knew it wasn't so. He wouldn't get such a vital detail wrong.

He pulled the letter out of his pocket, wincing as it caught the edge of one of the cuts on his hand he had earned last night, before turning the purple parchment over and over between his fingertips, barely able to make out the scribbly penmanship in the moonlight. She was the one who had suggested this location, surely she hadn't gotten stuck in the maze. She had seemed so excited in her letter- did something make her change her mind?

A brief panic swept through him- maybe she knew. He hadn't particularly told anyone about it, but his youngest sister had the tendency to blab, or maybe one of his schoolmates had seen his private potion dosage and figured it out. Maybe one of his cabin mates noticed why he wasn't there, or perhaps she had noticed his unavailability during the full moon and put two and two together. There was so much that could go wrong.

He sat on the edge of the fountain, pulling out a piece of parchment from his other pocket, his own words written on it- a poem. It was apparent by now that she wasn't coming. It seemed like he couldn't keep anyone in his life, even a pen pal whom he had never met.

Resigned to his fate, he set the poem in the fountain, letting the water melt the words together, blurring the ink, erasing broken words and broken promises. He watched as the paper disintegrated, the beautiful glare of the moon's reflection taunting him.

His hopes crushed, Kavi turned on his heel to return to his cabin.

"I'll be there, too."

What a lie.
