𝔗he stone corridors were colder after curfew, but Caspian Villin barely noticed. His footsteps were deliberate, one hand curled around his wand, the other tucked deep into his robes as he slipped past a forgotten suit of armor.
He wasn’t sneaking around for the thrill of it—not tonight. No, this was about damage control.
Someone had started a rumour. A reckless, stupid, foolish rumour.
It had spread like enchanted fire through dry parchment, moving from whispered conversations to hushed tones behind closed doors: Caspian Villin, in love with a Muggleborn.
The idea was so laughable he would’ve let it burn itself out—if it hadn’t stubbornly followed him wherever he went. And also if it hadn’t tainted his reputation.
He wasn’t about to let it slide. Tonight, he would hunt down the source.
But he didn’t know how to. It wasn't like roaming around the halls would help him find out who spread it.
Suddenly, a sharp noise echoed—a dropped coin, a shifted cloak? He didn’t know.
Without thinking, he spun on his heel and bolted.
Turning a sharp corner too quickly and at a reckless pace, Caspian didn’t have time to stop, his escape ended abruptly when he collided heavily with someone.

Rumour Roulette

The sound of shoes on the cold stone tiles moving against it was all Damien Dragonclaw heard as he walked as fast as he could in the corridor. He had just heard a rumor about him being in love with a muggleborn, now why he didn't mind the idea of it he knew if word got out to his father it wouldn't be too good.
He continued down the hall his wand in his pocket as he tried to find who started this rumor, normally he wouldn't care but knowing his dad side of the family and their beliefs on muggleborns especially his grandmother, boy he could only imagine. As he continued down the corridor he tried to think of who could have started the rumors as he continued down the corridor.
He didn't think he had any enemies as he has been pretty friendly and kind when meeting people at Hogwarts so he didn't think that was the case so that was out of the question so what else could it have been. He continued down the corridor before he felt someone heavily collide with him as he catches himself making sure he didn't fall before looking down at the person who collided with him.
He noticed the person was a boy and was way shorter than him and had blonde hair. "Oh! i am so sorry are you alright?" He asked as he looked down at him curiously.

ℭaspian’s breath hitched as the sudden impact threw him off balance. His back slammed into the wall, the cold stone biting through his robes.
What the hell—
He pushed off the wall quickly, posture stiff. He didn’t recognize the figure in front of him, but that only made the spike of irritation worse. Some idiot wandering the halls after hours without watching where they were going—and of course, they had to crash into him.
“I’m fine,” Caspian said sharply, brushing off his robes though there was no real dust to shake off. “You should watch where you’re going.”
His voice was colder than he intended, but he wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries. He regretted the coldness —but only a little.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the other boy. Brown hair, stormy eyes. Not someone Caspian had spoken to before, he was sure of it.
“What are you doing out this late?” he asked, though he knew the question applied to both of them.
“This isn’t really a place to be wandering around,” Caspian added, trying to ease some of the sharpness from his voice but failing. “We could both get in trouble if we’re caught.”
Caspian glanced down the corridor, checking for shadows—movement—anything. But nothing stirred. The hall was still, the quiet almost suffocating. They were alone. For now.
He exhaled slowly through his nose, a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.
After a moment, Caspian’s posture relaxed slightly, and his voice lowered, the hard edge easing a bit.
“Look, I don’t want trouble,” Caspian said, voice lowering, the edge of hostility softening. “But if you’re here prowling around, then maybe you’re involved too.”
He almost hated himself for saying it. The rumor felt like a heavy cloak draped over his shoulders, weighing him down in ways he hadn’t expected. He looked around again before speaking in a hushed tone.
“Did you hear it too?” Caspian asked, voice almost quiet now, as if admitting it aloud made it more real. “About me… and a Muggleborn.”
There. He’d said it.

Rumour Roulette

Damien just looked down at this boy who compared to him seem quite small but didn’t really pay it any attention as he bowed and looked down at the dude.
“My apologies I wasn’t expecting to run into anyone else tonight so sorry for running into you” Damien spoke softly as he looked at the boy, even though it was the other boy who technically ran into him Damien figured it would be good not to point that out so he left it alone. He noticed how the boy seemed to be in a panic like state almost and was mentioning how they’ll both get in trouble if they are caught after curfew which was definitely true but he figured right now they wasn’t his biggest concern.
Then something the boy said caught his attention he heard him mention how he may he involve with whatever the boy was out this late looking for before he noticed the boy leaning closer to him before whispering about how a rumor had started that that boy was dating a muggleborn, it was the most strange coincidence ever as that was the same reason Damien was out this late in the first place.
“No I have nothing to do nor have I heard that rumor about you till now but I heard that same rumor about me and that’s exactly why I’m out this late! If my father and most importantly my grandmother found out it wouldn’t be good for me” He said before looking at this boy.
Maybe just maybe they could help each other it was clear to Damien now that they both were looking for the same person maybe working together may be the only way to catch whoever is making up these false lies.

ℭaspian blinked. For a moment, he said nothing—just stared at the boy in front of him. He wasn’t alone in this mess—someone else had been dragged into the same foul and filthy rumour.
“So, you too,” Caspian said quietly, voice low and guarded, barely more than a murmur, low enough to almost blend with the hush of the empty corridor. He cast a quick glance down the shadowed hallway, eyes scanning for any flicker of movement or hidden ears, any shadows lurking in the corner, before meeting Damien’s gaze again.
He stepped back, gaze flickering warily across Damien’s face, trying to read him. A trick. It had to be. His instincts screamed caution. Still, the boy didn’t seem like he was lying. Caspian’s lips pressed into a thin line. A silent battle was raging inside him between suspicion and a desperate hope for alliance.
His gaze sharpened. “Maybe… maybe we can help each other.” He said quietly and cautiously.
He swallowed hard, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. The tension in his shoulders eased, if only a little, as he took a small step forward. “I’m Caspian Villin. And you are?” His tone was soft but a bit guarded.

Rumour Roulette
Damien Smiled as the boy introduced himself as he extended his hand outward to him for a handshake. “Damien Dragonclaw pleasure to meet you Caspian”He said softly as he looked down at him before getting back to the topic at hand. “okay so clearly someone is pranking us by starting these not so funny Rumors about us so we need to narrow down who it could be only one issue….i have zero enemies so that dosen’t leave much room for me what about you?” He asked softly as he looked at him. He figured if they could pinpoint where these rumors were possible coming from it would help their chance at figuring it out much better. Plus if they figured out who it was it could also give them a motivate as to why they were causing these rumors.
He decided it also would be better if they moved to a more hidden location in the corridors to keep this hidden as well as to insure no professors or perfects saw them as Damien did not fancy being in detention and being forced to explain that to his parents especially his father. “Say..why don’t we move to a more secluded area so are conversation isn’t heard out in the open and so no professors can find us” He asked him as his blueish grey eyes looked around the corridor.

ℭaspian hesitated for a moment before accepting the handshake, his grip firm but measured. “Damien Dragonclaw,” he echoed, eyes flicking up to meet Damien’s with a faint, guarded curiosity. “Pleasure’s... relative, considering.”
His brows furrowed when Damien mentioned he didn’t have any enemies. That didn’t sit right. Everyone had at least one person who disliked them—sometimes more than one.
Caspian cast a cautious glance down the corridor, his instincts humming. Shadows stretched long under the torchlight, and the air was heavy with the kind of silence that could only exist after curfew. He nodded toward a recessed alcove cloaked in shadow. “Yeah. Let’s move somewhere less obvious,” he said in a low voice.
Sliding into the darker corner, Caspian leaned back against the cold stone wall, folding his arms tightly across his chest as if shielding himself from the chill in more ways than one. “Enemies?” He smirked, a sharp edge to the smile. “I’ve got plenty. Maybe not all of them are obvious. But there are people who don’t like me.”
He shifted, eyes narrowing slightly. “So the fact you don’t have any… that’s either impressive or a bit suspicious.”
He shrugged, a small, almost imperceptible movement “Either way,” he began, voice steady, “I don’t know anyone who’d have the nerve—or the reason—to start a rumor like this about me”

Damien stood on the opposite side of the wall and just shrugged at him as he listened to him talk about how many enemies he has.He seems to have quite a lot of enemies if I do say so myself he thought to himself before looking back down at Caspian. “well it seems to me that you made quite a few enemies so it would be quite hard to pin point who could have possibly started this rumor so maybe the best scenario for us is….” he stopped to think about it for a secondthe best case scenario for us would be….to wait! To wait untill the morningHe thought as he continued to speak“it would be better if we wait as it’s getting quite late we wait in the morning see if any whispers of these rumors are even being talked about so how does that sound ?”He asked as he looked at him softly. He didn’t quite know who Caspian pissed off to even start those rumors but he assumed it was a safe bet that it was quite a few people so that made finding this person pretty difficult and he didn’t feel like getting busted by professors tonight so it was better if they tried to do this in the morning.“so let’s meet back here another night and by then we can discuss all that we know and hope they show up so we can figure out why they start these rumors”He said as he gave Caspian a nod. |

𝔗he suggestion hung in the air like dust stirred from forgotten books—harmless on the surface, but irritating nonetheless.
Wait. That was the plan?
Caspian’s jaw clenched, and he looked away, jaw ticking as he considered it. The idea grated against his instincts—waiting felt useless. But Damien had a point. They had nothing, nothing but the echo of gossip bouncing off the walls.
He didn’t answer immediately. He stood still, the weight of the silence pressing in around them like the heavy stones of the corridor itself. His eyes stayed fixed ahead, focused on nothing in particular, while his jaw tightened.
“Fine,” he said curtly. “But only because there’s nothing useful to chase tonight.”
His eyes scanned the corridor again—long shadows stretched under flickering torchlight, stone walls echoing with silence. It was too quiet. The kind of quiet that made you feel watched even when you were alone.
He turned back to Damien. "See you later, I guess.."
He started walking away.
A few steps away, he paused and glanced back over his shoulder, his expression unreadable in the dim torchlight.

“Also,” he said quietly, voice devoid of sentiment, “thanks.”
Then he turned and disappeared into the corridor.
