just a little gardening • threadToday, the sun was out and about, proclaiming to anyone and everyone that would listen that yes, yes, spring is here. And oh how Ophelia was listening. The call of it all rang loudly in her ears as she got ready to go outside. There was an errand going on, calling all the students to plant some flowers and things around Hogwarts. A great idea, Ophelia agreed with the effort. And when better to go outside than when the sun itself was announcing its presence?
Ophelia dressed herself in the closest thing that she had to a gardening outfit. She hadn't planned on getting down in the dirt when she'd first packed for Hogwarts in the summer, or during winter break. But here she was, doing the unexpected, and so she'd have to make do with whatever was available. The young Northwell took a look at herself, spinning around and feeling quite pretty in her green overalls and yellow and white striped shirt. She grabbed the satchel that she brought everywhere and exited her dorm room, feeling a sense of purpose.
First, she'd have to make a quick pit stop at the Herbology greenhouses. She had to have plants to plant, after all. She looked at all her options, picking a few flowering plantlets, some moss, a few shrubs. That's when she realised her problem. She'd wanted to plant these around the Great Lake, it would make for a pretty scene and help Hogwarts' ecosystem. But, these were a few too many plants for her to carry all the way to the lake. She'd need to go somewhere closer. Ophelia thought, where could she plant these? She could have simply planted them around the greenhouse, of course. But that was what all the lazier students would do, she was sure, and she quite liked the feel of the sun's light on her skin. The Ravenclaw wasn't ready to go inside so soon. Where else, then?
Aha! The campgrounds weren't too far away, and if Ophelia tucked some of these plantlets in just right, she could make it there without harming the budding growth. Carefully, she opened up her satchel and started to put in the selected plants. The rest she held in her arms. She stood up, balancing and hoping the plantlets wouldn't fall. Slowly, slowly, slowly, she made her way to the campgrounds. There were other students there, performing their errand task. Ophelia planned on joining them.
She put all of the plantlets on the ground, including the ones that she'd kept in her satchel prior. The Ravenclaw studied them, mentally figuring out which ones she wanted to put where. There was so much open space and so many patterns that she could arrange them in.
Ophelia decided on something and got to work. For each plantlet, she dug up a decently sized hole. Then, she put each one in its respective hole. Finally, she covered up the roots with some of the dirt that she'd uncovered. She stepped back when she was done, admiring her work.
Perfect.
