A faithful meeting

Damien Dragonclaw was sitting in the courtyard up against a wall reading his astronomy book. He loved astronomy it why he was so excited that Hogwarts had a whole class on it, his favorite part of astronomy was the stars he loved knowing the different stars and constellations in the sky it was one of his many hobbies that he could absolutely pleasure in. He hummed quietly to himself as he was reading a page about the constellations Leo the Lion which was formed by several bright stars called the sickle. As he kept reading he noticed multiple students passing by talking about what they wanted to do at hogsmeade this year or how what class they were excited to go to this year. Damien didn’t care so much about that I mean don’t get him wrong he loved learning especially about topics that fascinate him he’s one of the reasons why he was probably in Ravenclaw to begin with but their conversation were just pointless to him because at the moment all he cared about was his book. He hummed a soft tune as he continued reading as he found out recently humming a tune helps him focus more on what he’s reading. The sun was beaming down onto his face and he sighed as he wish he should have brought a hat or atleast a drink to cool himself down with.

───────────────────────────────────────────────── For one who typically shunned bustling crowds and the claustrophobia of company, Giovanni found an unexpected solace in the courtyard. Now, bathed in the deep, mellow glow of afternoon light, it lay unusually tranquil, quieter than he had ever known it to be. In fact, as of now, only a handful of students lingered in the courtyard, no more than three, which promised a rare and blissful quiet, accompanied, naturally, by the courtyard’s serene beauty. He sat in the shadow of a column, its silhouette carving a line across the page. The sun, gentle yet insistent, poured through the cloisters in golden shafts, catching the edge of his cheekbone, burnishing the fine line of his jaw. It was warm, but not uncomfortably so. The sort of warmth that lulled rather than smothered. Giovanni had leant back against the stone, and was sitting on his duffle coat to protect his neatly pressed school slacks, his satchel tucked neatly beside him. He had paused in his work to close his eyes briefly, lean his head back to let the blissful breeze wash over his handsome features, and thread its way through his dark hair. His half-finished Arithmancy essay fluttered lightly in the breeze, loosely tucked half under his hand as though it might fly off if left unattended. For a while, there had been peace. Until that sound. A sound one could almost ignore, and for the first few moments, Giovanni did. He rolled his head forward off of the stone wall and looked back down at his finished essay, blinking the bright patches out of his eyes from having them closed in the bright sun for too long. Pressing his quill to the page again, he furrowed his brow and attempted to fall back into the rhythm of calculation and ink, willing the sound away with sheer intellectual resolve. But it continued. A humming, infuriating, itchy. His jaw tightened, his knuckles white with the force of trying to distract himself. A venomous glance over the top of his parchment revealed a boy, a little younger than Giovanni, sitting with his back to the wall, legs drawn in, gaze focused on the book in his lap. Astronomy, Giovanni could see the star maps from here. There was something almost offensive in the boy’s peace. The way he sat there, utterly absorbed, bathed in sunlight, not the timid, watery kind that softened the castle stones, but the sharp, golden light of late afternoon, which spilled across his features like molten honey and threaded through his brown hair, turning it to warm chestnut and gold where it caught the light. It fell in loose waves over his brow, casting soft shadows across his face, which wore the faintest ghost of a smile, not deliberate, not meant for anyone, but born of quiet contentment, as if the universe itself were conspiring to please him and him alone. Giovanni hated that. The boy’s head bobbed faintly as he read, that low hum still threading from his lips like breath given rhythm. The picture was almost charming. Almost. Giovanni’s eyes narrowed. His patience, suddenly now very thin, frayed like thread beneath a blade. He watched the boy for a moment, expression unreadable, then spoke, his voice low, clipped, and smooth as polished stone. “Must you?” He paused to glare before continuing, his voice a slow drawl of annoyance dressed as civility. “I don’t know what prompted you to share your inner soundtrack with the rest of the courtyard, but I, for one, didn’t ask for accompaniment. Nor do I require it.” ───────────────────────────────────────────────── | _GDL_ |

A faithful meeting

Damien continued to hum softly lost in his own world. He didn’t have many friends yet and barely knew any of his housemates so he figured he’d just stay quiet and read his book. Speaking of his book he thought about asking his mother of ordering him a few new ones once he returned back home for the holiday. He’s had read so many of the books in their families study that he was running out of books to read sadly. He slowly moved his fingers through his chestnut brown hair as he leaning his head back and looking up at the sun as the sunlight hit his body enlightening him in this honey like glow as he continued to hum softly to himself a soft and sweet melody. Or so that’s what he thought it was, as he was about to go back to his book he noticed a boy who looked a bit older than him as well as handsome call out to him. The boy had dark brown hair a nice and broad jawline as well as bluish green eyes which Damien had to admit complimented his smooth and nice complexion. Damien eyes widened as he heard the boy mention how he did not ask to hear his tunes coming from his mouth and asked him to stop it. He didn’t think his soft humming would bother someone so much but he figured he must have been humming too loud.
He quickly got up and bowed his head while looking at the boy his greyish blue meeting his bluish green ones. “Ah! I didn’t even think if others wouldn’t like my humming or it would bother someone, on behalf of the noble house of Dragonclaw I give you my apologie” He said making sure to add the last part of the apology that his father had taught him when he was younger incase he had “acted out” or was “not behaving properly” to other Purebloods in his words, now granted his father also said if it was ever a Muggleborn of a Halfblood to never apologize to them because “they ranked higher than them” but Damien never believed that though and thought that it was stupid to not apologizes to someone if they were a Halfblood or Muggleborn but he did have appearances to keep up when he was around his father so he made sure if he said that after his father was gone he’d apologize.
“I won’t hum anymore and shall quietly read my book apologizing for disturbing you” He said as he sat back down in the grass and leaned against the stone wall of the courtyard as he opened his book and went back to reading his book. The sun shinned on him putting this angelic glow around him as his hair turned a lighter brown almost even a honey glow on it as his face rested their looking almost like a beautiful stone statue of a Greek god from the books he has read. He couldn’t believe his simple humming had disturbed someone’s peace and quiet here he was hoping to make friends and failing miserably at it. He figured later that afternoon he’d owl his mother for Advice on how to make friends or even how to be a bit likable with his time here at Hogwarts because he would never admit it but he would absolutely hate it if he was left alone and by himself for the whole school semester as their was only so many books he could read in the library before he finished them all and was back to longing for more.
He thought about that boy who had complained about his humming for a second as he had hopped that his apology sounded sincere and maybe or well hopefully it was enough for the boy to let it go so that maybe Damien could try and start a friendship with him as he needed to meet a few more of his house members and get to know them a bit better since they would be spending the next few years together until they graduate and he really would like to have even if it’s just a few, a few good connections while he’s at Hogwarts.

───────────────────────────────────────────────── The apology, theatrical as it was, hung in the courtyard air like incense, sweet, perhaps, but a touch overdone. Giovanni gaped for a second, then quickly snapped his jaw shut, blinking. What on earth… “On behalf of the noble house of Dragonclaw…” The line was so steeped in the sort of pureblood pomp that Giovanni had long grown tired of, it might have drawn a laugh from him, had he been in the mood to be amused. He was not. His quill slipped from his distracted fingers and skittered across the cobblestone. Cursing under his breath, he made a feeble attempt to grasp it, reaching out uncharacteristically inelegantly, and missed. He watched as it rolled towards the other boy's feet, and frowned, irritated, his brain still skipping around the other boy's words. Giovanni had heard enough polished apologies in his life to know when one was a mask and when it was a quietly earnest attempt at decorum; he'd made many himself, still did in fact. However, this seemed to be both. And oddly enough, that made it even worse. He shook his head, slowly, as though the motion would give him clarity, and squinted at the younger boy (Gosh the sun really was quite bright) watching as he sat back down, book in hand, the sunlight once again catching in the waves of his hair, casting him in that irritatingly divine glow that made Giovanni feel- well, irritated. He cleared his throat lightly. “Well,” he said coolly, brushing his dark fringe back with a flick of his fingers, “at least one of us was raised with manners.” A feeble attempt at half a joke, half an apology himself. Of course, Giovanni knew more manners than more than half of his peers combined, courtesy of his upbringing, the kind where dinner forks mattered more than feelings, and every silence was measured in expectations. He shifted slightly, eyes flickering across the boy's face and noting his creased brow. He felt oldly abashed for his outburst now, and vaguely wondered to himself whether he would feel the same if this boy had not come from a background of prestige; the thought made him feel a little sick with himself, and he ignored this. “Dragonclaw, was it?” Although he already knew. The boy had said so. “You read Astronomy?” He drawled with curiosity, nodding to the boy's book, which was splayed on his lap, an idle page caught in the soft breeze. “I assume you’re fond of stars.” ───────────────────────────────────────────────── | _GDL_ |

Damien just went back to reading his astronomy book as he felt his cheeks heat up just like the rest of his body. He felt quite embarrassed he had made such a complete and utter fool out of himself infront of this extremely attractive boy and he didn’t even know why. He just tried to continue focusing on his book as he got lost in his thoughts. Keep it together Damien…you’ve never lost your cool at least not this much before remember what you were taught… He was quickly snapped out of his thoughts by a quill that had bumped into his foot. He looked at it curious as to where it came from before slowly picking it up and inspecting it. The pen had the initials GDL. He didn’t know who this quill could possibly belong too but he assumed it must have been that boy from earlier he made a note to return it to him soon. Suddenly his attention was over at the boy from earlier as he heard him speak. He was talking about at least one of them was raised with manners, Damien quickly nodded his head before answering him. “Yes my father made sure that from a very young age I had manner taught to me before I could even talk” That last part wasn’t really true it was after he could talk and got a little older his father started teaching him in his eyes the proper way to act. He would have started to drift off to his thoughts if not for this boy calling his name again seemingly asking was that his name. “Yes Damien Dragonclaw.” He said again, Suddenly his eyes widen as the boy asked him did he read astronomy as that was one of his favorite subjects to read about. “Yes I in fact do actually! I know a whole lot about it I even talk to professor McCorie after class about it sometime!” Damien was so caught up in his love for astronomy he didn’t even know what all he was rambling about. As he continued his bag fell over as he container of sweets from his mother had fallen out of his bag. |
