XXXAfter eating a quick lunch, Eonaria ran off to the library, again. The sun shone merrily through the windows, illuminating the familiar wooden shelves crammed full of books. She had recently joined the Healers' Internship, which she did not expect to have to do a bunch of work for. Eonaria was imagining something more like extra blocks of time where they would be called to watch demonstrations and learn healing spells, but then she received word that she would have to do a presentation?!? After procrastinating for a week in fear of the daunting task, she finally accepted that the best thing to do was just get started. Not that it was actually that big of a deal...
XXXShe had decided to research narcolepsy, which honestly sounded quite fascinating. Eonaria headed straight for the medical ailments section, skimming over the titles on the spines of the books. They were alphabetically arranged, which was definitely helpful. Despite the many books discussing how different ailments could be caused by various spells, potions, and curses, the section with relevance to narcolepsy was... sadly very minimal. Eonaria sighed, tugging out a few of them off of the shelves. She brought them over to a table accompanied by a few plush armchairs, sitting down to look through the table of contents.
XXXBewitched Sleep... Sleeping Charm... Sleeping Draught... other non-narcolepsy things... Eonaria frowned, opening the next book. Draught of Living Death- well, that's definitely not what I'm looking for. After flipping through most of the books in her stack, she finally found something that sounded important: "Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder where a person experiences extreme fatigue and falls asleep at inappropriate times," Eonaria murmured aloud to herself.
XXX"Early in 1999, the Ballycastle Bats defeated the Tutshill Tornados. Tornado Captain Brevis Birch blamed his team's unexpected loss on a bout of narcolepsy suffered by the Tornados Keeper Merwyn Finwick. It is unknown if it was ever confirmed that said narcolepsy was actually present. The Tornados had been at the top of the league before this defeat." She stared at the page. Okay, but that's more about Quidditch than the narcolepsy itself. Eonaria flipped the page, bewildered. What? Nothing? Come on, the only thing I learned was that it's a chronic sleep disorder and that the Tutshill Tornados lost in 1999! She sighed, flipping through the rest of the pages.
XXXDespite the unfortunate amount of information, Eonaria began writing notes anyway, splaying out a roll of parchment. She held one of the corners down with her inkpot, beginning to write down what she learned. When she was finished, the few sentences she wrote only took up about two inches of space on the parchment. Maybe I should write bigger, Eonaria grimaced. Determined to find more information, she got back up to scour the library for more helpful books while the ink dried. It was nearly half an hour later when Eonaria finally leaned back in her armchair, letting out a tired sigh.
XXXThankfully, she had managed to discover enough about narcolepsy that would be sufficient for her presentation project. Some of the things she had written down on her filled parchment paper involved diagnosis, like tracking sleep patterns, along with treatments, which could range from unpronounceable Muggle medicines to simple lifestyle changes. Muggle medicines can really do all that, huh? Stimulate you to stay awake, suppress REM sleep, and, uh, function as a Tongue-Tying Curse. Eonaria squinted down at one of the books again, inhaling deeply.
XXX"Serotonin and norepi nor-reh-pee... norepine nor-reh-pine... norepine? nor-pine" She blinked hard. "Norepinephrine? nor-reh-peh-neh-freen" After a moment of glaring at the word, Eonaria shut the book. She would have to say it eventually during her presentation, but for now, she could ignore it.
XXXEonaria's back hurt.
XXXAnyways! She rubbed her temples, attempting to clear her thoughts. After all of that, now Eonaria could finally think about her actual presentation. A poster would probably be the easiest, right? She could draw at least semi-well, and visual representation was always good. Plus she could write notes on the back of the poster if she was really scared. As for supplies, Eonaria had an excellent hoard of colored inks.
XXXAs for what goes on the poster... well, I guess I could draw a brain diagram and label where the... she checked one of the other books again. ...where the lateral hypothalamus is. Yikes, medical terms just have to be this complex, huh? And I can explain the difference between Type 1 Narcolepsy and Type 2 Narcolepsy, and... She got carried away by the excitement of designing a poster, taking out another roll of parchment to begin sketching out the layout of the presentation. I'm going to be the best healer intern ever!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
