xx𝓘t was one of those warm April days. A beautiful confident Sunday. And Brookline wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of Jeans or robes or leggings, today! No way, Josè. She wore a pair of black knee-high boots, a black skirt, and a blue sweater.

She was so tired, nowadays. The voices just continued to get louder, and she hated it. Like, why? Why her? Brookline ended shutting herself in her dorm room, just to contain herself. She feared if she got too overwhelmed, or angry she would snap at one of her professors or fellow students or even one of her friends. And she didn’t want that. She was more moody, too. Her feelings could snap and shift into a brand new emotion, more intense. Certainly more stressed, she was reading more and studying.

Brookline, also, was more interested in a new dangerous topic.

It was the only thing that helped her, nowadays. To be honest, it kinda helped her like adult Muggles use with drugs or coffee.

Fire.

It was a new substance to her. And, lately, she was engrossed in books about the burning light. Since December, when her father left, everything fell apart. But when she read about fire, she felt alive. It was like nothing she ever felt before. And she loved it.

It seemed like reading about dangerous fire gobbled up everything else that was hurting her or gnawing at her. April was anew.

Fire. The word even made her dark blue eye light up with pleasure. She was reading a nonfiction book she got from the library yesterday, and it was about wildfires and how they produce.

Ugh, then those dreadful voices ruin it, Brookline thought, remembering when her conscience and those voices would reprimand herself, about fire and its harmful path you could go on. Her misgivings. She rolled her eyes as she strolled through the Small Hall, confident.

Unlike she was the past three months.

Brookline entered the Great Hall, slowly, as if she was contemplating, if she would eat today.

Why are you contemplating about food? You must be hungry, young one.

The harsh voice made Brookline wrinkle her nose in displeasure. Oh yeah. And you must shut up. She shot back, her head flinging back in harsh laughter.

sorta brookline’s deep thoughts just in third character - just something that was similar in the Beautiful Creatures series and thought I could try it 🤷🏼‍♀️

The past Brookline would cringe in fear. She could have cried, watching her new confindent self drifting around the wrong path. Fire. She hated it.

Who would introduce
fire to poor dear Brookline? It was breaking her heart to see herself like this. Fire was dangerous. And the cold way with the burning hot yearning for fire could potentially harm people both Past and New Brookline cared about.

How did Brookline lose her anyway? That is what the past Brookline wondered every, single day. Past Brookline sighed, how long until Brookline could be her regular self again? Chase Senior Quinn was quite a jerk, and Past Brookline just wanted to hug all the hatred out of him, and bring Past Loving Hufflepuff Chase back and back. That was how willing she was to bring her dad back.

She would turn around, hoping desperately someone or something would bring Brookline around. The past Brookline liked Sad and Poor Brookline better than this new confident one. You know what, she wanted Past Brookline back. Probably many people wanted Past Brookline to come back. Her mother (who was still potentially emotionally absent, either Past or New Brookline didn’t know), her siblings. She knew some of her friends were most likely confused with Brookline’s actions and new personality.
“I need you to be okay again!... I need you to breathe again,” @Sage Willows had been with Sad Brookline close after the winter holidays and they exchanged letters for a bit after Christmas.

Sad Brookline had responded with a heart-breaking sentence,
“W - what if I can’t breathe again?” It had made the past Brookline wonder why she left her. She had asked herself, Brookline wouldn’t be feeling this way, way now in the dumps, if my damn father hadn’t gone in and ruined everything.

She wished she would go back to her. How this was hurting New Brookline
and Past Brookline.

How she wished it would be soon New Brookline would realize.

Brookline settled down at Table Ravenclaw, and grabbed some eggs for her plate. A biscuit, and a bit of porridge. Another thing her father took, her hunger. She wasn’t always as hungry as she used to be. Unlike her confidence, hunger hadn’t exactly came back yet.

She wished there was Welsh cakes. That might make feel better than fire. Today was going to be a perfect Sunday; reading all day about one thing. Fire.

As Brookline daydreamed, the voices came up again without warning. They tormented her about everything from her father to fire. Cutting short her daydream, she slammed both hands on her ears, trying to squeeze the voices out of her.

Unfortunately, that couldn’t and wouldn’t work out for her. It was really a horrid thing. Being what she thought she was and more. Brookline wished she could see herself the way others could. She could only start with her confidence and then work her way back up to believing.

At least she had her confidence back. It could be worst. Just before she finished her bit of porridge, Brookline glanced up and the owl post had came. She wondered if she would get an owl. She never got one anymore because there was nothing to say. She never once sent Peter a letter after the summer holidays, and never once sent her mother and siblings and Winnie one after the winter holidays. It was quite sad when you knew you weren’t concentrating or when your family member/friend was having a real rough time.

The last letter from Winnie was in February. She hadn’t sent Brookline one since. Why, Brookline never asked herself. She, then, caught the sight of a very familiar owl.

It was Trinity!

But who? Who would send her a letter now and why? When Trinity landed, Brookline would rub the owl’s feathers, thoughtfully, before ripping the envelope off her mother’s owl’s talons.

“Hey, Trin. Whatcha doing here, girl? Huh?”

She would tear the envelope apart, only after seeing the beautiful script of her name on the white center. She skimmed thought the short letter, and Brookline’s stomach lunged, dark blue irises widening with quite unmatched fear.
Brooke,
Hey. How’re you doing? Has it been better? I miss him too, and I’m quite sure you do too.

I write to you because you have to return for Easter Holidays. Please. I want you too. It won’t same without you. And the kids has been asking for you. It’s so hard looking out for them. Mum’s still emotional and absent. I’m so stressed.

So, please, I ask of you. At least think of coming home. I understand why you wouldn’t want to come. It’s been a nightmare since you left. I miss you and love you so much.
Much love,
Lizy

Brookline let out the breath she hadn’t known she was holding. Her anger flickered. It wasn’t him who she missed, it was his past self, merely a freaking ghost, and she knew she could absolutely positively never get that loving Hufflepuff back.

Her siblings. What would happen to them if she didn’t end up going to the Quinn’s mansion for Easter Holiday? Her breath hitched as she sighed, tear burning and threatening.

Why is always been with bad news, and it here is some more bad news, and ooh! Why don’t I collect more bad news? Brookline slumped, and rested her face on the table, her porridge just to the left of her head. Tears would leak out, and turn to sniffling sobs.

And why must her family be targeted too? Why? When would this end? Snot and tears got caught in her brunette hair, the ends becoming more of a gross brown. Taking a napkin, Brookline would blow her nose, and dried most of her tears.

See? This is what happens when you take a angry hike into the wrong path. You become even more sad. You, simply, can’t just stop being depressed or emotional.

One sharp breath in and one sharp breath out. Shut. The. Hell. Up! Brookline yelled in her mind, and suddenly, stood up from her chair, so quickly, she probably made everyone jump out of their skin, around her. She slammed the chair into the table, and stormed out of the Great Hall with a angry blue flame in her irises.

Brookline was going to get rid of those voices, and get rid of this weakness.

She was coming home for Easter.

Fire was beautiful and right now, it seemed like the only fuel for a confident Brookline.

Fire.
