a picnic rendezvous • threadIt had definitely been quite a while since Ophelia had seen one of the best friends that she'd made at her time in Hogwarts-- Quinn Brook. The girl who she had met on the train ride home for winter break the year before. It had turned out that they were both from not just the same country-- Ireland-- but also from the same city-- Dublin. Over the break, they'd met up, and they'd hung out with each other during the rest of the school year too, even going to one of the balls together. But sadly, since Ophelia's joint birthday party, she hadn't had much of a chance to see Quinn.
Thankfully, Quinn had come up with a great idea-- a little picnic, with just the two of them. It would be the perfect chance to just catch up with each other and talk like the best friends they were. They hadn't really decided very much on the part of who was providing food, so Ophelia had brought a little basket. There were some homemade goodies in there, like vanilla cupcakes and butter cookies, as well as some food that she'd swiped from the Great Hall tables, a few sandwiches and some roasted veggies and meats. Maybe Quinn would bring something too, and they'd have a little feast.
Ophelia shivered as she waited, sitting on a patch of grass. She hadn't thought it would be as chilly as it was, with the sun shining all nice and golden, so she had worn a thinner sweater. She had been wrong, she really should've brought a coat.

♡♡♡♡♡♡Quinn smiled as she thought about the upcoming meeting with her best friend- Ophelia. It had been way way to long since she had seen her and she was so glad she had come up with the idea for a picnic. Quinn wasn't sure what food to bring so she had grabbed a few snickerdoodles and some cheese and crackers. She even grabbed some chocolate dipping sauce in a little container with some fruits to go along. She looked outside-it looked a little cold so she grabbed a sweater and tied her shoes. Then she walked outside and strolled into the late morning sunlight.
As she made her way down the grounds she spotted Ophelia. She smiled brightly and waved. Ophelia looked a little cold and Quinn was glad she was wearing a sweater. It had been way to long since they had last seen each other and Quinn could hardly wait to talk with Ophelia. Quinn skipped down to Ophelia and set down her basket.
"Hey Ophelia, long time no see. I see you brought some food as well. I guess its time for a nice little feast." Quinn said as she sat down. She gave Ophelia a huge hug and smiled. She had missed her best friend so much and was excited to spend the afternoon with her.

a picnic rendezvous • threadOphelia felt her whole face light up at the sight of her best friend Quinn walking down from the castle they called a school. She got up from the ground, springing up with energy that she'd not experienced in a long while. "Quinn!" She returned her friend's hug enthusiastically.
The girls both sat down together, and Ophelia began unpacking her little basket of food. She hadn't brought too much, right? "A perfect little feast! I brought some cupcakes and cookies." She set those down, then reached back into the basket. "I also swiped a few sandwiches and some of that salad that they'd had." She brought out those too, arranging her donations to the pile. It seemed that Quinn had had the same idea, to bring a few little snacks. There were cheese and crackers, snicker doodles, and fresh fruit, paired with chocolate dipping sauce. Quite a feast, indeed.
Pulling out two paper plates, Ophelia handed one to her friend. Then, she began filling up her own plate. Ever the perfect child, she saved the sweet goodies for last, piling on some of the veggies and meats, a sandwich, and some of the cheese. She picked up a cube of cheese, popping it in her mouth.
"So, Quinn... how's life been for you? It feels like I haven't seen you in forever!" She accentuated the words with a laugh and a smile. Then, she remembered that they'd just had winter break a few weeks ago. "Oh! And how was break this year?"

♡♡♡♡♡♡Quinn smiled as Ophelia returned her hug. Ophelia had brought a few desserts but also a few healthy items. Quinn gratefully took a paper plate from her friend and started filling up her plate with assorted goodies. She grabbed some of the salad and a sandwich. Quinn took a bight of a strawberry and smiled happily. She grabbed a little more fruit then settled down to eat. Ophelia had the right idea with the cheese cubes and Quinn decided to dip hers in chocolate. Ophelia started up a conversation and laughed.
"Life has been pretty good! Your right-it feels like it's been so long!" Quinn loved the sound of her best friends laugh-it made her smile.
"Break was... eventfull." Quinn considered what she should tell Ophelia about her break.
"I have a bit of a story to tell if you want to hear it. Let's just say I am no longer single." Quinn said with a smile.
"What about you how was your break?" Quinn asked. Quinn hoped that Ophelia wanted to hear her story. She hadn't really told anyone and she was dying to let it out. I wonder if Ophelia has a crush on anyone? Maybe she'll tell me. Or maybe she doesn't, I don't really care. Quinn thought. She was just happy to be spending this great day with Ophelia.

a picnic rendezvous • threadOphelia loved the feel of just having a nice little conversation with her best friend again. Just her best friend, not in the chaotic rush of her joint birthday party-- though that had been a lot of fun too. But this peace was different. It felt safe and pleasant, even though it was so, so cold outside.
As Quinn dipped a strawberry into the chocolate dipping sauce that she'd brought, Ophelia brought another cube of cheese to her mouth, melting at how soft it was. "So, so long." She added with a grin. Quinn kept speaking, and Ophelia ate, her gaze distracted although she was intently listening. However, when her best friend said the words "no longer single" her head snapped up, an interested gleam in her eye.
Had it really been so long that Ophelia hadn't even known that her best friend at Hogwarts had even fancied someone, much less that she was now with that person? "Oh my gosh, Quinn!" She gushed. She sort of wanted to do that iconic thing in the movies, where they spit out the food in their mouths, they were so surprised. "You should've started off with that! Ah, I want to know everything." She did a double take. "If you're okay sharing, that is."
Quinn asked Ophelia about her own break, though the Ravenclaw didn't believe that her boring, sort of depressing winter break was any news after hearing her best friend's short recounting. "I mostly read a bunch of textbooks and sat in my room all day. You know me, always the worrier." She chuckled lightly.

♡♡♡♡♡♡Quinn giggled at her friend's reaction.
"I'm fine sharing, it's been hard not telling anyone if i'm being honest." Quinn said. Ophelia said something about being a worrier.
"Don't worry I don't mind. My sister is a bit of a worrier herself." Quinn said, thinking back to how her sister used to worry about school before she started homeschool. Taking a bite of the picnic she wondered how she should start the retelling of her... eventful break.
"Ok, so maybe I should start at the begginging. This guy, Declan, lives near me and always has. Do you know him?" Quinn paused for a responce.
"Anyway his crazy parents sent him off to some random wizarding school, ilvermorny. When I took the plane to london he said goodbye to me at the airport and I kissed him on the cheek." Quinn paused thinking back to that moment.
"Anyway, fast forward to last winter break, he was hanging out with me and he asked me to go out with him. I told him yes and then during the spring ball I broke up with him." Quinn paused again and took a bite from her sandwich. She swallowed and smiled at Ophelia who was intraced in her story.
"Well he didn't really take that well and over the summer we didn't talk much. But then he started sending me theese love letters over owl and they were so sweet. He asked me out again over this winter break and I said I wanted to think about it because I didn't want to ruin our friendship anymore." Quinn bit her lip and then continued.
"So then on christmas day he trecked over to my house while it was all snowy and asked me again." Quinn paused for dramatic effect.
"Then I said yes." Quinn smiled brightly at the memory.
"Sorry I have been talking for so long, my mom says I can tell a minute of my day over many hours." Quinn said giggling. She grabbed another strawberry and ate it as Ophelia digested the information.

a picnic rendezvous • threadOphelia listened very closely to Quinn's recounting, though she was excited enough for her best friend that she could start doing cartwheels. It was like a love story in the movies, the whole getting together with a childhood close friend, then breaking up with them, and figuring out that you were meant to be all along. So cute, and Ophelia was so glad that her friend had someone amazing like Declan in her life.
"Nope, I don't know him, but I'd love to meet him now!" She would have to approve of him first, of course, be her protective self and make sure that Quinn was in good hands. But she was sure that her best friend had amazing judgement. "If you don't mind me asking, you're okay with him, right? I mean, you did break up with him the first time, and I want to know that you're happy."
The words came out too serious for this lighthearted conversation that they were having, so Ophelia covered them up with a smile, though she did hope that Quinn would answer the question honestly, if she answered at all. The Ravenclaw girl took a bite of her sandwich before looking back up at her companion.
"So, have you read any good books lately? I finished The Book Thief the other day, and I'm going to start The Hunger Games soon." Having met on the basis of books, Ophelia knew that Quinn would at least have heard of the books that she was referencing. Maybe they could have a nice conversation about their reading for the rest of the evening.

♡♡♡♡♡♡Quinn smiled as Ophelia listened to her story with rapt attention. She was glad that her friend was enjoying her retelling.
"Maybe you can meet him some day, like on a break or something." Quinn suggested. Ophelia then asked her if she was happy.
"I... yes-I think so. I havn't been with him long enough to known and school keeps us apart a little. But I am really excited because the spring ball is coming up and he goes to one of the schools that comes here. So I will able to see him." Quinn replied. Quinn smiled as the topic shifted to books.
"Hmmm, I have not read the book thief's yet, but I heard it is pretty good. I just finished reading Front Desk and I kinda want to read the second. The hunger games is a book I really want to read, maybe we could read it together?" Quinn suggested. Books were such amazing things. They could take you to all sorts of different places. Quinn grinned at Ophelia, she was glad that they had gone on this little picnic. It was so much fun to be talking to her besty without having to think about any school stress, it was so natural-talking to her.

"Yes, that'd be great!" It was convenient, that Quinn and Ophelia were best friends, and they lived in the same city. Not only could they meet up whenever they want during their time at Hogwarts, but they could meet up during breaks too.
"Good, good. Hey, maybe I can meet him then." It was just an idea, but as soon as it came out of Ophelia's mouth, she found that she quite liked it. She really wanted to spend more time with her best friend, and what better way to do that than attend the ball together? Though, she knew that now that Quinn had a boyfriend, she'd have to spend time with him as well, especially since she didn't get to see him all the time either.
"Ooh, The Front Desk? I've heard of it, but I haven't read it yet. I have to read it soon." When Quinn came up with the stellar idea that they read The Hunger Games together, Ophelia's eyes widened with surprise and excitement. "Yes, we should! It could be like... like a two person book club!"

♡♡♡♡♡♡Quinn was glad Ophelia agreed, it made her release a little breath she was holding. She wanted to make sure that her best friend wasn't against meeting her boyfriend.
"Oooh yes maybe then." Quinn said. Quinn was glad that her best friend wasn't worried about spending time with Quinn and her boyfriend. Quinn knew that her friend was being super supportive and that was great.
"Yes it's a great book!" Quinn responded. Ophelia's eyes widened with what seemed to be excitment.
"That does sound pretty fun, when should we start reading it?" Quinn asked. She was glad she had someone else to read the book with because she loved reading but reading with someone else gave you another person to share the expierence with. Quinn suddenly realized that time had started passing much faster than usual.
"Wow-look how much time has passed!" Quinn exclaimed. The sky was starting to darken ever so slightly compared to the gorgeous afternoon sun they started with. Quinn was glad to be spending her day with her best friend.
"Hey Ophelia, do you know what you are doing over the summer break?" Quinn asked. Quinn could barely keep her mind off summer at times. Even though it was so far away. School work seemed to be piling on as the days continued.
