Speech -- Thoughts

It seemed like it was her turn this time.

Her birthday always brought Pam an amount of excitement. This time though, she was more than a little apprehensive, for this was going to be her first birthday away from home. She was already missing her dad and the day had barely begun. She had a feeling she would be more homesick today than she had been even on the first night she had spent at Hogwarts.

On the bright side, this was going to be the start of all the birthdays she was going to spend with her friends, give or take seven whole years. She was going to make the most of her time.

She stifled a yawn as she piled sausages onto her plate. She had woken up earlier than normal that morning and had sneaked out to the cold winter grounds. Hence she was feeling more giddy than normal as she reached the Great Hall for breakfast. To top it all, her father had permitted her to eat uncontrolled unhealthy for this specific occasion. She was going to make sure she exploited said allowance to its peak.

Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the letter from home. Lumi had somehow found her midway through her walk and had pretty much dumped the letter and a wrapped package on her. Pam had taken a detour to drop off both pet and package in her dorm before stepping into the Great Hall.

She slipped open the letter, her father's familiar handwriting greeting her, and she read through the letter, smiling at the words.

My lovely Pamela,

Happiest Birthday, kiddo!

It feels so strange not having you here with me today, but I hope you're celebrating and having an amazing day with your friends. I miss you so much, but I'm so proud of you going out there, learning and growing.
Time flies so fast! I still feel like it was only yesterday when I held you in my hands for the first time. You were a tiny little thing. Have a lovely 12th at Hogwarts. I hope your day is filled with lots of love, happiness and laughter (and cake!). You deserve to always be happy, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Can't wait to hear all about your day!

With lots of love,
Dad

P.S. I hope you liked your gift :)

Pam smiled softly, carefully folding the letter into its envelope and slipping it into her pocket; she did not want it to get dirtied by the food. She then turned her attention to her plate.

Today was off to a good start.

Monday again... Usually, Amelia didn't like Mondays much. It meant school, a schedule, and getting up early, which Amelia wasn't very fond of. Today she woke up early on purpose, though, because today wasn't just a regular Monday — it was a February Monday, the 10th of the month! And Amelia was ninety-nine percent sure that Pam, her friend, was born on that day.

As she got through her morning routine, Amelia tried to come up with a way to wish her friend a happy birthday. Planning a party would obviously be difficult, as planning wasn't Amelia's strong suit, and anyway, a last minute party is a hard task in itself.

She couldn't buy a gift, as Amelia had no idea what Pam would like, and... if she were honest with herself, she had also forgotten. She did make a 'Happy Birthday' card yesterday, but... it didn't seem like enough, not on its own, especially for her first friend at Hogwarts.

Robes on, bag packed, Amelia snatched the card from her desk and ran out of the dorm. She would have to think of something— a way to make her friend's day more enjoyable. But how?

As she walked up the steps to the Great Hall slowly, it hit her. It wouldn't be as good as a gift, no, but it could count as a birthday gesture, to show that she cared for her friend.

Amelia entered the Great Hall, her mind set. It could either go horribly wrong or perfectly right. Taking a deep breath, she spotted Pam quickly at the Badgers' table, folding something into her pocket.

Here goes...

Amelia slipped into the seat next to her, her back facing the table, side by side with Pam, who was sitting normally. "I shouldn't be here," Amelia whispered in her most dramatic voice, trying an American accent, just like in the movies. "But I had to give you this."

Amelia made a great deal of looking around twice, as if she was crossing the road, making sure no one saw them. Then she handed her friend the birthday card theatrically. "Keep this safe, the whole world depends on you."

𝓘t was a delightful surprise to realise that @Pamela Graham and Ruth Fairchild's birthdays were merely 9 days apart. This did mean that Ruth was 9 days older, something that she felt brought bragging rights. This also did mean that most of her reckless decisions involving Pam, should she come up with more, were to be her blame. She didn't mind that, of course.

As she walked out of the Hufflepuff dormitory, her arms cradling a purple box (once a different colour, but Ruth had managed to snag some art materials to paint it entirely lavender), she hoped that the chocolate rochers that she had bought from Honeydukes hadn't melted yet. Ruth hadn't been able to master the freezing charm so far, only relying on the outside's cold weather to keep the delectables within chill and solid. Thank goodness for winter. She was just musing this when she almost tripped up the stairs to the Great Hall. The purple box was close to tumbling out of her grasp, but she caught it in the nick of time, a sigh of relief escaping out of her lips. Should she have just knocked on Pamela's dorm and presented her with the gift? Probably. However, Ruth couldn't bear facing Ira so early in the morning. Her thoughts were still stuck on the letter she had found last afternoon, the bottomless pit that ended in dilemma. Her mind flashed with slideshow-like images of all the people catatonic at the hospital wing.

Stop, stop, stop. The grip on the box tightened. Her footsteps became louder, and the shift in her weight felt heavier. What on earth? She had only drunk 2 bottles. It was little compared to goodness knows how many @Mamori Anezaki had drunk. It was starting to get increasingly gloomy in Ruth's head, fogging her mood. Her attempts of trying to put on a cheerful front was faltering again. Ruth quickened her pace, striding through the open doors. Maybe if she caught sight of Pam, she'd be happier. Maybe--

Ruth stopped short a few feet away, her eyes catching sight of a green scarf. Slytherin, amongst the wave of Hufflepuffs? Ruth felt a Deja vu prickling up, forcing an unwanted flush on her cheeks at the thought. Barely a fortnight ago, Ruth had been visited upon by her own Slytherin friend, @Matthew Campbell, whom had come to wish her a Happy Birthday. It seemed that @Amelia Garnett had come to do the same.

It sure is a small world, Ruth thought to herself as she went forward to join them, plastering a smile onto her face, making sure her steps were a tad lighter, loosening the grip between her fingers and the gift for Pam. "Good morning," she greeted them smoothly, sliding into the empty spot next to Pamela to watch Amelia round off her theatrical spectacle. She eyed the birthday card with feigned interest, though she genuinely hoped it came off as curiosity.

It was a pretty card, alright. Amelia seemed to have talent in everything. She nodded at her in acknowledgement, then cleared her throat, sliding the box towards Pamela, just as she had done on her birthday. "Happy birthday, Pamela Graham," she said quietly, offering a sincere smile to Pam. That girl deserved it. Honestly, though, she was surprised to see how happy she seemed after just 2 days to Mamori's fall. Was she the only one who felt so terrible? So empty, so bleak?

Oh, give that girl a break. It's her birthday. Ruth popped open the box for Pamela to gauge the contents within, then shut it quickly before the daily owls came crowing in. "Don't eat too much at once. I heard they can rot your teeth."

The night before the 10th of February, Tracey found herself inside of the room of requirement once again, but this time, the room had turned itself into a kitchen, with an oven and counter space as well as all the ingredients Tracey would need to make her sugar cookies.

First step is, to make the dough. Once Tracey had finished measuring everything and placed it inside of the stand mixer, she began mixing everything together, until the dough was formed and she knew it was done.

Tracey then placed the dough on a bread board and she began rolling out the dough until it was thin enough to use cookie cutters to cut the cookies. Once she was done, she grabbed an ice skate cookie cutter, a snow flake cookie cutter, and cookie cutter for other shapes that go with the winter theme she's making the cookies.

Next, she had to bake them. As the cookies were baking, she hoped that Pam would love the cookies. When the cookies were ready to be taken out of the oven, Tracey allowed them to cool. She then began making the icing. Blue, purple, white, black, and gold.

Once the cookies were cooled enough, Tracey began icing the cookies, and once she was done, she was amazed by how realistic they looked. She was proud with her gift for Pam, and she placed them inside of a purple box and after cleaning up, she went back to her dorm to catch some sleep.

Since Tracey had baked the cookies the night before, Tracey was able to sleep in, but when she woke up, she quickly got changed into her uniform, and grabbed the box of cookies before making her way to the Great Hall. Tracey saw Pam sitting at the Hufflepuff table, she also saw a Slytherin girl sitting at the table and another Hufflepuff girl. Tracey smiled at all of them and slide into an empty seat at the table before placing Pam's gift beside the lavender box and saying,
"Happy birthday Pam! I hope you enjoy your gift. I baked them last night,"

As she said that, Tracey took off the box lid to reveal the sugar cookies she had made last night. Now, was Tracey going to get up and head over to the Ravenclaw table? No, she'd stay at the Hufflepuff table until a professor or prefect told her to go back to her table.
